Hi Jennbaker....sorry to read about the passing of your beloved family member....My husband and I have been married for 16 years and do not have any children, so our "family" think that we are both crazy for treating our Chihauhau's as our babies....Buddy is 1.5yrs old and his little brother (smile) Pudge is 8 months today...We actually had a doggy birthday party for Buddy when he turned a year.....He actually had a doggy cake with Happy Birthday written on it - LOL......I said all of this to say that you and your dad will be in our prayers because they really are like family......Wish you all success in reaching your goals.

It makes sense to eat to your BMR although I havent been doin it long but when some are stalled it helps I think? I exercise 5-7 times in 5days and I was eating low carb barely making 20 carbs a day and i wasnt losing, I guess my body was starving you really need to eat more if you are working out.

Eating to your BMR No matter what
BMR Calculator

BMR:Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment, in the post-absorptive state (meaning that the digestive system is inactive, which requires about twelve hours of fasting in humans). The release of energy in this state is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs, such as the heart, lungs, brain and the rest of the nervous system, liver, kidneys, sex organs, muscles and skin. BMR decreases with age and with the loss of lean body mass. Increased cardiovascular exercise and muscle mass can increase BMR. Illness, previously consumed food and beverages, environmental temperature, and stress levels can affect one's overall energy expenditure, and can affect one's BMR.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? BMR is the minimum amount of calories your body needs to function while at COMPLETE REST.

There is an additional calculation we will use as well called your Harris Benedict Calculation. This calculation takes into account additional calories burned through activity.

So whats the challenge? Eating to your BMR as a bare minimum every single day. This means NEVER having a day where you eat below your BMR calorie requirements.

The second calculation (the HB should be used to take into account the upper range of calories). Here is the link to the HB equation:

Harris Benedict Equation

You use the HB number and subtract 300-500 calories to come up with your actual caloric needs taking activity into account.

So, Eat to your BMR as minimum every day. If you are actively exercising use your HB number minus 300 to 500.

Personally, I have been stalled for about two and a half months. At my size I should be still losing weight at a decent pace. On reviewing my fitday numbers I have been eating an average of 1500 ish calories a day. This is well below my BMR of 1800. I am personally going to aim for 2000 calories a day of good clean atkins allowed foods including vegetables and fats.

A simple way to get a basic calculation is to take your current weight x10. Are you eating this amount? Most of us *guilty* aren't.

feel free to post daily menus, stats & progress as well as any interesting BMR articles etc.

Lets give this a shot!

I want to thank you all for your prayers and good vibes! They worked! Mom and Dad just called and they "need" a beagle. They've picked one out near me (maybe 50+ miles from here, they live 200 from here) and if I can I'll run out there tomorrow and see if she has the right attitude and snatch her up! I'm SOOOOO relieved and I'm happy again! Not just the "awww, that's a cute loldog!" happy, but genuinely happy "everything is gonna be alright!" happy!

Again, thank you all and I love you SOOOO much for being here for me and putting up with me when I'm a Sad Sally.

Sorry about your Dad's dog, Jenn. We have 3 cats and a new puppy on the way. He has not been born yet, but we get second pick of the litter (due July 19th) -- feel like the expectant mom!

I have been feeling lousy the past couple of days and it hit me this afternoon, I have been having the same induction symptoms I had when I first started this woe...... now that tells me that my 'sampling' last week was really too many carbs. Anyhow, the good thing is I stopped it before I gained back any lbs.... and am just praying that now I am feeling better and the appetite is getting back under control, that I will not go crazy like that any time soon. Just not worth it.

StageMom, way to go! no biscuits.. my coworkers are constantly bringing high carb foods -- biscuits, doughnuts, cakes etc. Most days it does not even tempt me, but it is always a good feeling at the end of the day to know that you have passed on all that junk.

I have never tried the coconut oil either. Have read about it on other threads, but am reluctant to try... let us know if it helps.

Well, it is midnight again..... I just cannot seem to get on here to post at a decent time, but I am glad to be back on track. Hoping when I weigh Saturday, that I will be in Onderland. -- Praying that my craziness last week has not set me back too far. I can feel Onderland coming soon.....

I am slightly incoherent, gonna head to bed for some much needed sleep. 6 am will be here too soon. Have a super duper Friday Divas!!

Happy good Friday morning!

JennB...Good news about the new pup. Another little one to love.
Fancyface...Hoping for entrance to Onderland for you!
SlimD...I hope the coconut oil helps you and the pounds roll off.

Sails..I hope those pounds start coming off again soon. Sometimes we have to wait but eventually we are rewarded for good behavior.

As for me, I'm happy to be 221 this A.M. and am claiming it and not letting it go, that is until it goes lower. Yes this is more proof the three weeks of not losing has come to an end. That's 2 pounds down so far this month.....6 to go for Freedom from Fat July.

Good Morning! Good Morning! (I'm singing, please don't go deaf... I'd cry!)

The scale is moving in the correct direction again. He *almost* clocked me at 264 but to be on the safe side he clocked me at 265.whatever.

I'm super psyched, I get to meet the Puppy today and swoop her up for my parents. I think I'll call her Lulu until my parents pick out a proper name for her. I asked the breeder about her personality (and he's a very sweet, very old man!) and he was careful to say "She's loving" and I was disappointed for a split second until I hear his wife fussing in the background saying "That dog is a MESS!" and I started to laugh. He said "Well, she's... a... character." and I laughed again. I reassured him that's exactly what we're looking for. He said "Well, you picked the right one!" He'll call me this morning to set up a time to meet and then I'll have beagley pup terrorizing my house till Sunday when my brother can deliver her to my parents. It's a big old beagle train we've got working here.

That's the highlight of my day. I'll post a picture, or a link to a picture, so my fellow dog lovers can oohhh and ahhhh over her. Plus I know my parents would love a few pics of their new bundle of joy!

As for me, for today, I plan to eat on track. Salad and brisket (someone's gotta eat that brisket and it'd better be me!). Yesterday my veggie was loaded broccoli and man oh man was it gooooooooood.

Have a good LC Day everyone!!!

PS - Fancy - thank you! I feel a kinship to that big bloated beastie... and yeah, I'm about ready to start eating people too.

Here are the pictures, as promised. My parents are thinking of naming her Bonsai 2.0 soooo I've been calling her 2.0 for the last couple of hours. She doesn't care, she just likes people!

Here she is settling in for a lap nap.

Here she is being awoken from her "under the table" nap.

Here she is gettin' her grub on! NOM NOM NOM!

I decided to give myself a special treat today so I ate 2 cheeseburgers for lunch. But never fear, I had oopsie roll buns and the hamburger patties were made by me also. Delish! Oopsie rolls = not bad but I still prefer to eat my hamburger with a fork. So yeah, I finally made the Oopsie ROLL and it was not bad.

I did discover that a blooming onion has a bajillion carbs in it! WHAT??? That was my "not so much of a cheat" cheat. if I keep looking up my foods I'll soon be repulsed by ALL the goodies. Not a bad thing!

Sleepy Jenn! G'night ladies!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I needed those today. Work was rough and a male coworker actually said to me today something about just waiting to see how long it takes me to gain back the weight. Can you believe that? He is overweight himself and is one person who had not commented on the weight loss -- then today out of the blue, he comes out with that statement. I laughed and told him he is going to be waiting a long time, like forever!! Then I walked off feeling just a bit sad that he (or anyone) could say something like that.

Thank you to all of you for your support. It really does help me tremendously to stay faithful to my Divas. You are the best!

Nothing like see that scale drop (even if it is not for me) to keep a body motivated. Congrats on seeing going downward. Yay for looser clothing too.

We are heading to the Zoo tomorrow and will get some major walking in. Cannot wait. I will check in again Saturday late - after we get home. Have a wonderful LOSING weekend Divas!!

love the pup photos!!!

HAPPY SATURDAY MORNING DIVAS....

Cute puppy Jenn oooo ahhhh nice choice... Fancy dont worry about that coworker he is just jealous. I have a lot of people at my job who have been asking questions about my weight loss, watching me eat, trying to offer things that are not on my list of things to eat like SUGARY TREATS oh and they say one bite cant hurt ya. This one lady even made my favorite sweet potato pie I told her no thanks and she had the nerve to act mad ... Anyway my eating has been great this week and finally the scale has moved since my beach fiasco I weighed this morning and I am down to 237 thats 2 pounds down from my previous weight before the trip... Those cheats are so not worth it , but I'm over it and I wanna stay cheat free for the rest of the month ..

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND DIVAS

Fancy: I'm not sure why people think it's okay to cheat on our diet for them. My old supervisors mother used to bring her ohsodelicious home baked goods to the office for us to eat. I cheated every time. I'm stronger this time around. As for Mr. Evil Coworker, you're right. He'll be waiting a LONG LONG TIME! I'm sure he's just jealous. Thanks on the pup. She's a cutie but I'll be glad when she goes to my parents. I have 6 dogs of my own, and right now I have 2 extra.

Peachy: Thanks for the ooh and ahhh! Like I said above, my supervisors mother is my Cooking Mentor and I would HAVE to sample anything she made. Plus once a month we gave orientation for the hospital and we would get the leftover cookies which were THE BEST!!! I'd pig out on the oatmeal raisin and sugar cookies! I miss them but I'd rather lose weight.

Funny/sad story for you both. When I lost 100 lbs (the first time) a bunch of friends came up for a bonfire at the farm. A friend of mine had always been the "good looking chubby girl" while I was always the "fat girl". When I lost 100 she gained, I don't know how much b/c I'm bad with weights, but she might have gained 100. She looked at me, and said, "Wow. You look good. B****!!!" and was really, really upset that at the time *I* had become the "good looking chubby girl" and she had become the "fat girl". I was sooo deeply complimented and deeply upset that she would dog me for finally losing weight.

Marilyn: You can meet your goal! I know it! Right now I just want to get under 260. Then it's get under 250!

Thanks Peachey and Jenn. Even though I kinda know where he's coming from, it still startled me. I have also noticed that a few overweight friends are now starting to avoid me. That really stinks. I am still me for heaven's sake. Oh well, I am losing this weight and getting healthy for me and my family---

Heading out to the zoo in few minutes. Will try to post again later... No weight loss this morning, but am so having bm issues (sorry, if that is tmi) -- The regular dulcolax stool softener is not helping--- have been told to increase my water intake. I have had a minimum of 130 ounces every day this week and just wondering how much more I can slosh around with. How much H2O do you Divas drink? Thursday I actually had 172 ounces. Will be drinking lots today at the zoo. Chugga chugga

Jenn,
Those pictures of the puppy are so cute!!! When you lost the 100 lbs before, did you lose it by doing Atkins? I weighed myself this morning and I am down 8 lbs from last Saturday!!! I am still struggling a bit with the sweets. I am a little bored with the sugar free jello. But I will survive...lol. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yeah, I did a very strict Atkins Induction diet. Meat, cheese, eggs with LC veggies on Fridays (my cheat day). I ate an atkins bar for breakfast so while I lost the weight in 6 months I was overly willing to swan dive off the wagon.

I'm doing better this time!
