Start Date: 09.27.2008
Sunshine: I hope you survive Jury Duty. Good luck with your weigh in. Hopefully it's better than mine this morning.

Chai: Are you gassin' from ONE? If so, shame on your digestive tract. If you ate a bunch... well... shame on you!

Fancy: I hope you slept well. I'm getting to the point where my bladder wakes me up at night. BAD BLADDER! Naw, not really, the alternative is worse.

StageMom/Michele: Welcome! The more the merrier! LC Works, that's for sure and we're all here to support each other through our LC Weight Loss journey.

Heather: Actually, they both have colds. SlimD is over heres but still fighting a cough, Chai just got a cold and I'm hoping she doesn't get the cough.

MsTrudy: Your Welcome!!! I want everyone to feel as comfortable here as I do!!! For my sweet tooth I've been drinking hot tea. At first I fell in love with a cinnamon apple tea and it was great for the sweet tooth. Then I learned about Sugar Cookie Tea (I ordered from Amazon, it's a Holiday tea). Another thing I did was kept a small amount of sugar free chocolate around and I allowed myself 1 piece per day. For my body sugar alcohols are the same as sugar but they were a very nice treat and I learned that you can actually nibble a Reese's cup and it'll last longer than gobbling it down in one bite. Other than that I avoided sweets.

Gypsy: I beat them for 5 minutes solid. Good luck with them, let me know how they come out. My favorite work out is the elliptical machine. Love it love it love it!

Well, my whoosh is gone. I gained all the weight back and then a couple pounds out of spite. I'm back to hovering around 266. I was 261 Sunday. Ya know, I just don't like whooshes anymore. Gaining it all back has really just taken the fun out of them. I don't know if I'll ever be able to enjoy them again. Supposedly this BMR stuff works so I'll just keep working at it for another 2 weeks and if it's not doing better I'll get back to the way I was eating and be happy with my 1 lbs a week loss. It was SOOOO much better than this.

Happy Wednesday!

JennB, Fancy, Mag....thanks for the feedback on the article. I thought it was pretty good overall but I do agree Jenn, that to eat under 1,200 is not something that should even be hinted at for the most part. I think the author was saying that if you are already a smaller person it may be within the guidelines to go under a bit. I'm well aware the damage can be done for larger ladies eating at too low a level. In any case after reading this I've decided 1,200 is too low for me and my new low is now 1,350...so those calculations upped my minimum requirement.
More later.....

Jenn, I ate FOUR!! I ate two peppermint patties, and 2 peanut butter cups! Shame on me, for sure. Though, I guess I am proud that I didn't eat Joel's giant bowl of brownies instead. (I freakin' LOVE brownies). So, baby steps, I guess! And I learned my lesson from those little tasty gas-makers!

Chai - I don't know if 4 is enough to cause a reaction like that in a normal person. You might be sensitive to whatever is in those bad boys. "I remember this one time I ate a whole bunch of SF hard candies..." needless to say I'll NEVER do that again. Cleaned me out down to my toe nails. Crazy crazy!

Although, I would swear Dr. Atkins mentions eating them for their laxative effect in his book. Then again I'm crazy and I make things up and think they are facts.

Good Morning Everyone

Welcome Michelle-

Just wanted to let you all know that I am doing good but this weekend I have a wedding to go to, the reception will be a challenge. I haven't let anyone know that I have started l/c because there is always someone to voice a negative response. At work its all most certain the one of the many ladies in the office will offer me something to get me off plan. ((Most of the time unintentional but still )) One of my co-workes/friends had noticed that on monday I brought in with me an Atkins can shake. Her first response was, "Your not going to start that ***** again !!

Have a great day!!

Hahah yeah, I am fairly certain that Maltitol gives me the angries. Because I have made some low carb brownies from a mix before, and they hurt my tum tum too. Similar ingredients. I think just ONE of the chocolates will be fine to eat, from now on. I needed to binge and I did, and I regret it. And I am kinda thankful that it hurt me and taught me a lesson.

Chai...I think it's good we have problems from the LC treats. This sort of thing helps keep me honest...not over indulging in them. I used to eat an entire package of LC strawberry twizzlers...ha ha ..no more. If I have them it's three or maybe six but certainly not the whole package. The price I pay for that is too high.

And thinking back to my seven month 'stall' it was mostly due to my allowing myself more food, especially low carb treats. When I eliminated them or mostly so, I started losing weight again although I'm losing slowly.

Thanks for welcoming me ! I am so excited to have a great group of ladies to support me ! Do we have a weigh in day ?

I am on induction and I would like to stay on induction a little longer than my last go around -- I thought I was comfortable on Atkins and then messed the whole thing up -- I had lost 30 pounds in about six weeks and I got a little cocky.

I'm going to employ a family member to help me measure myself so that I can be completely honest with myself and you too !!!

Exercise goals for July - start water aerobics at the Y, increase walking
Nutrition goals - stay on induction
Water goals - I've been drinking 70 ounces -- need to up it
Weight goal by end of July - 10 pounds
Educational - I read "How I quit my low fat diet and lost 40 pounds" again -- its a great low carb book with great recipes -- I love the short ribs and all meat chili !

Jury duty was fine, got to leave early and I took a nap.

Re: sugar free candies. I buy them every once in awhile (Russell Stovers) to help with the bathroom problem, they clean me out! But...I can only eat a couple.

Well last night I had cheat #2 this month, but it was multi grain cheerios. I had a stomach ache and the thought of meat and veggies gagged me. The cereal was a cheat, but it could have been worse.

Well Wednesday is Workout Wednesday and I am going for an hour tonight! I am on vacation starting Friday until July 22nd and I am going to try to go almost every day.

Today's menu:
B-5 sausage links
S-cheese cubes
L-topping off piece of pizza, broccoli w/ cheese
S-chees cubes
D-hamb patty w/pesto.

Welcome newbies.

me + scale + bmr = not friends

I know your weight fluctuates during the day and yadda yadda but I just checked to see what a fattie I am and it was up to 270. So congrats to me, I'm the only genius who can eat LC and GAIN 10 lbs in a few days.

Good job! Good job!

And I learned something important. When IHOP says they serve "ligon berries" with their swedish crepes, they don't mean FRESH ligon berries. They mean canned, with lots of sugary syrup. So really, my "not so much of a cheat" became a major headache. NEVER AGAIN!

Not a happy camper today and why I'm spreading it to you is beyond me.

I'm seriously thinking about giving up this BMR nonsense and going back to eating 1100 calories a day. Not the best idea but it seems to be better than what I've done to myself at this point.

Jenn,
Don't give up!!! When I read the articles on the BMR I was skeptical, because of all the calories it will allow you. I really don't think you can lose any weight consuming that many calories. I am staying around 1200 calories right now and I have had a 3 lb loss since Saturday.
We know you can do it and we are here for you!!!

Aww..Jenn..resturants are not to be trusted! Not even with their salads...pssh.

I'm starting my eliptical machine on Friday, Hopefully I'll be able to dig it out of the closet and dust it off.

Sails, that recipe sounded really yummy I think I will try it tomorrow when I take on my oopsie rolls.

Hi Divas! I am running late again, but have found that I do better and hold myself more accountable when I post.... so here I am. Very sleepy, but heading to bed in a few minutes.

We had lots of rain again today.... so no bike ride. Did get a walk in at lunch today, but feel like I have not had a good workout today. Oh well, tomorrow is another day and it is almost here.

I ate all lc today, but still managed to eat too many of those low carbs. Not sure what is with me the last few days, but it is like I cannot get enough to eat. Blueberries were the culprit today..... .guess it could have been much worse. Have had 135 ounces of water. Chugga chugga. May be making some middle of the night potty runs too, Jenn. lol. TMI -- I guess.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!! I am hoping to back off on my carb intake for a couple days, keep drinking my water and crossing fingers that we get a bike ride in tomorrow before the storms/rains run us inside.

Goodnight Divas!!

JennB,

How about you just count your carbs and take it from there...forget the calories, forget the BMR? If you get most of your carbs from veggies and fill the gaps with meat, cheese and nuts, you will get more than enough calories. Now, if I could just follow suit.

You also may be retaining water....like you didn't already know huh? For some reason I go through spurts where I retain more or don't go to the bathroom enough. Have you tried a periodic water pill?

It will come off, and you will get right back where you want to be in no time. Hang in there.

As always, nice to read your posts....I would buy your book!

Well I stayed on plan today and even stayed away from that bowl of cereal tonight even though I though about it a couple times. I ran to McDs and got a large unsweetened ice tea and put two packs of slenda in it...took care of all cravings except now I am wide awake.

Have a nice night everyone.

Happy Thursday!

I'm still cruising along at 222 this A.M. I ate on plan but a little more than usual about 1,650 calories. Still it averages out and keeps me from starving to death.

JennB..I asked if they had fresh fruit at IHOP one time and they looked at me like I was crazy. If you're going back to counting calories I've found this calculator is accurate for me as far as how much I need to maintain. Be honest about your activity level and then subtract 500 a day to lose a pound a week...but you're right not to go too low for too long. I'm a bit sceptical of the BMR thing really because I think it may be easy to Overestimate the calories you need in a day and therefore end up eating too much to lose weight. I've actually calculated my BMR but I'm always conservative when I figure out how much I need and even overestimate my calories a bit when counting them so I don't end up cheating myself. Anyway at my weight, activity level and age my BMR is only around 1,600 a day.

To everyone: Thanks. The funk is still here, but for different reasons. My Dad's dog died, which I know is really irrelevant to most of you but I really cared for her and I was the one who gave her to my Dad to fill a hole left there by one of the cockers we had when I was growing up. So I'm really worried about him and hoping and praying that he'll move on before I have to step in with a new puppy and start that fight all over again. I guess mostly I'm sad for him. She was, by far, one of the most amazing dogs I've ever met including setting up a scent barrier around the yard so that she would not run out of the yard while chasing a critter (she's a beagle) and including learning how to whisper. But I know most of you aren't dog/critter people so I'll just leave it at that.

While I was at Wal-Mart (ew!) this morning I did find coconut oil so I bought two tubs of it. That saves me from having to order any AND it means I can ease up on the actual FOOD going down my gullet and get some calories from the coconut oil. I do feel "backed up" and I couldn't find a water pill (honestly, I don't even know what to look for) but I did find ducolax so maybe things will start going. I was outdoors most of the day (not yesterday but day before, the big "gain" day) and I don't think I properly hydrated myself... so yeah. I'm really torn on what to do with my eating. I don't think I've given my metabolism time to repair itself but I was in no way shape or form prepared for this much of a gain so quickly. I figured a couple of pounds over the course of a week or two and then I'd get back to losing.

I don't know. I'm still pondering it. I'll make a decision in a few days. Or maybe by lunch. Actually, yeah, I have to make some sort of decision by lunch b/c that involves food. Especially since I didn't drink/eat breakfast. And lunch happens in about 10 minutes. What a rushed decision!
