MsTrudy - WELCOME! I love this board for it's upbeat attitude! It is, by far, my favorite. As for the BMR, I went to this thread: BMR!!! Eating To your BMR... No Matter What! and they have all the science and sound theory behind it. The thread started in May and so far things are looking for everyone. I couldn't read all 27 pages when I joined, but I read the first 10 and the last 7, it was enough to give me a good idea of what to do. BTW - when you start counting calories, fat, carbs, protein, don't freak out with how much fat you're eating. I'm still talking myself into the mindset that it's okay, but the numbers are freaking me out... I've just had low fat drilled into my head for years and years. But the bloodwork is the best indicator that THIS way of life, even though it's high fat, is very healthy. At least that's what my bloodwork says!

Mag - While you're doing Induction you REALLY need to stick with the list of acceptable foods. You are only hurting yourself and setting yourself up for frustration by not following it. You can do this, but you really have to do it the right way, especially the first few weeks. Congrats on the drop! Stick to the plan and you'll see more.

Congrats to everyone who lost!
Welcome to new posters!

Yeah dad set you guys up for a fall by sending those cookies home with you. I was a little mad he did that. He doesn't know the difference between 'no sugar added' and low carb. Then he tells me later he wanted some of those cookies and he didn't mean I should give them ALL to ya's.
Even so...you did good and better today. I'm eating on my pork for lunch and it will be chicken for dinner. Last nite I had a whole large can of chinese vegetables and it was only around 100 calories! Really filled me up. I loves me veggies.

Wow, I am gone a few days and feel like I will never get caught up reading. Hope everyone is doing okay. I will do some more reading in a bit, but wanted to post my final loss for June was 8 lbs. -- My lowest month yet, but I am pleased with it. Thinking that if I can lose 1-2 lbs a week, I will be ecstatic. Anything more than that will be wonderful, but not gonna stress about it. Have lost 1.5 lbs for July and hoping that in the next 25 days, I can hit the 15 lbs total for the month. --- but as long as it is a loss, I will be happy.

I did buy a 'real' bike and have ridden it twice over the holiday weekend. The first time, only managed about 1.5 miles and thought my legs were gonna turn to mush. Yesterday I did 2 miles. So for July, I want to ride my bike 3-4 times a week and gradually increase the distance and speed. I am not for sure, but think it has been over 20 years since I have ridden a 'real' bike, and man oh man, it is sure different from the stationary one. I was so wobbly the first few minutes, that my ds (3.5 years old)--- kept saying, 'mommy you okay?' -- lol. He rushes to get out from in front of me. So funny. He made my day Saturday when we were at a picnic, he looked at me and said, 'mommy you getting smaller, and I'm getting bigger.' -- What a wonderful encouragement he is to me every day.

1- Reach Onderland
2- Post daily (it is so hard to get caught up with everyone when you miss a few days in a row).
3- Lose 15 lbs
4- Buy a bike/helmet and start cycling with ds at the park
5- Eat healthy --- no derailing myself.
6- Limit to 2 higher carb meals for the entire month.
7- Organize my closet (Got it cleared out and everything donated in June) so that I can store my newer items
8- No more new clothes until my size 18's are baggy.
9- Go get a nice facial and begin using makeup again. (have not really cared for several years --- and now I am ready to care again)
10- Support my Divas

Just wanted to quickly repost my July goals in this thread. Gotta head to bed. Hope to get caught up with everyone later today. Have a great Monday!!

WOE: Just keeping my carbs under 30g a day.
Start Date: May 2008
Well I was boasting last week about not having cheated yet. I guess I should have kept my yapper shut! This weekend was a mess. Yes, I ate all low carb foods, but I ate way too much of them and didn't count my carbs properly. I know I went way over 20g Fri, Sat, and Sun. I am sure I must have gained.. and that's not exactly what I want to be doing. Anyway.. I am back with a vengeance on this bright and sunny Monday.

This morning I feel like a pile of dung. My throat hurts (I have chronic tonsillitis), my belly feels like it has a monsoon in it, and I've got a killer headache.
Despite this.. I am back on the rigid track... and I won't let this happen again!

Good Morning Divas!

Or should I say

Good Make It Happen Monday Morning Divas!!!

Yeah, that sounds good.

I'm holding steady with my whoosh. I think I'm up .2 or .4 lbs but that's fine. I've got my fingers, toe, legs, arms, eyes crossed hoping this whoosh will stay down.

Have a good day ladies!!!

Good Monday morning ladies!

I'm happy to announce after three weeks of waiting and being good I'm down another pound to 222. Yeah it takes awhile for me to lose but I guess I broke that mini stall now. Feels good to know I'm still in the downward trend.

Congrats to those who behaved this past holiday weekend and encouragement to those who think they didn't. Monday is the most wonderful day of the week...full of promises for now and the future. If you never give up, you'll never fail. Faithful and patient continuance gets us all to the goals we seek. We all can do it for we are the mighty low carbers!!

HI Ladies~

((Mad at myself))

I don't know what im doing !!!! I know that i've been doing everything wrong lately. I can't seem to get a grip on my mind set. I've been wanting to lose weight for years. So, Whats stopping me? Me. I give it a good effort for awhile then a set back but not a little setback. I mean, eat a fry and stay off plan for a month. Geez, Is something that wrong with me? I know losing weight wont solve everything but when Im doing good I feel so much better for me. Doesn't everything seem a little better when alls going good?.
Some days, I feel so defeated that I wan't to give up the whole thing entirely but I can't. I hate looking at myself. I hate pictures of myself.

Sorry ladies. I sometimes feel alone in real life. I have a good friend that is heavier than I am but she seems happy with who she is -Why can't i?

Does anyone ever feel like this or has in the past?

Sorry about the woe- is- me but there is no one else to talk to who might feel the way I do right now.

Groovy...Not knowing much about you I can say you need power to resist that first fry or whatever else triggers you. Seeing you've been here for 5 years...do you know a plan well...have read a book through? Can you look back and see a stretch of time when you were successful? If you do have a period of success then use that to tell yourself you have a proven track record that you can succeed,,even if it was only for a few days. Carb addicts much like any other sort of addict need to stay away from the 'drug' at least until their mind/appetite is under control through being in ketosis. So are you willing to rid your home of carbs and to avoid being in places where the carbs tempt you? How serious are you about changing your life? I'm asking these questions for you to ask yourself. You are the only one who can make this committment for yourself. Even if you can control nothing else in your life, you can learn to control yourself...one step at a time, one food decision at a time. There is no time like right now. Make the committment with your next food choice and prepare your food so you have no excuse for yourself to eat carbs. Read here and read some low carb books. Most of us have these same sort of problems as you do and that's why we're here. You can be successful one choice at a time.

Happy Monday Morning, Divas!

Hoping that we all have a great week..especially after a busy holiday weekend.

This morning, I was feeling kinda nauseated (sp?) and I ALMOST drove through McDonald's to get something carby...but I resisted and came to work and ate 4 pieces of bacon instead. AND the bacon settled my stomach...at least as much as a biscuit would have.

I'll check in later

Groovy

If you don't mind, I'll repost my story for you. I hate to repost, but it's all the stuff I want to say, maybe there will be something in here to help you.

"It's hard to get into that mindset, but once you do, girl, RUN WITH IT! I can tell you mine. I "restarted" my LC diet repeatedly over the last 3 years. I might lose the water weight 10 - 15 lbs and then I'd cheat and then I'd cheat and then I'd cheat and I'll start again Monday and then I'll start again this weekend, and then I'll start again after the holidays. I was faking it.

Then I went to the doctor for my yearly eval. Had the usual blood work done. I was 1 point away from being diagnosed type II diabetes. NOT COOL! I learned that you can lose a small percentage of your weight (10%) and lower your risk for type II diabetes. I started looking into it. My Mother recommend Gastric Bypass (a very well educated and experienced nurse with over 30 years under her belt). I started looking into it and in the massive amount of research I did, I realized, I HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT, I WILL KILL MYSELF IF I KEEP GOING THE WAY I'M GOING! I found a local surgeon, went to the seminar, yadda yadda yadda. My insurance company turned me down. Apparently being 300 lbs with several comorbities is not enough the justify a surgery that will not only allow me to lose the weight but keep it off. I was crushed.

In the research I learned that even with Gastric Bypass I'd have to eat a LC diet. I remembered I'd followed it before and I lost 100 lbs (why oh why did I stray?). I felt GREAT! I had ENERGY! I loved myself! I decided to give it a whirl again.

So here I am. I have changed my eating habits. I eat mostly whole foods. I'm actually, at this exact moment, in the rare position that I am trying to increase my calories b/c even when I "pig out" I'm barely getting enough calories (1460 on a pig out day, less than 1200 on a normal day).

If you're having trouble sticking with it, I'd recommend you serve your two weeks of Induction to get your metabolism in gear and then go to OWL. I have such a HUGE variety to eat from. I'm not remotely bored. I can find something (delish!) to eat at almost any restraunt (the only one I was unhappy with was Whataburger).

There are a million reasons why you SHOULD do this. You have to find yours. Avoiding death or a low quality of life is mine. Wanting to be all sexified for my Hubby is another of mine. To feel Good througout the day instead of tired and in need of a nap every afternoon (which is hilarious since I can't sleep due to a sleep disorder) is another of mine. I could go on and on and on.

Find your reason. Grab ahold of it, put it close to your heart, and run with it.

You have to do this for you.

I hope that helps. I'm around if you have any questions or need someone to talk to!"

I can tell you this much. When I got serious, I said goodbye to my trigger foods. Goodbye Doritos. Goodbye rolls. Goodbye sugar. I said Goodbye forever and I'm actually not looking forward to eating them (well, maybe a tiny bowl of my Daddy's new banana pudding) when I lose the weight. I don't cheat.

What are your trigger foods? Fast food burgers? That was one of my weaknesses. I found a Big Mac Salad that tastes the exact same, is LC friendly and I ate that once or twice a week until I got to the point where I no longer wanted fast food burgers.

You can also make oopsies and use them in place of buns for fast food burgers. I personally have said goodbye to burgers but I might do that in the future.

Do you have LC food on hand? I'm a compulsive eater so I keep LC food on hand. At any given time there should be a few different meats in the fridge and a few different LC veggies. When I get hungry, I eat. When it's time to eat, I eat.

Like I said in the cross post I was eating like a pig and getting 1460 calories. On a usual day I was getting under 1200. I've added a few snacks and some beef and now I'm getting 1850 - 2000 calories. I promise you, I have to choke it down.

You need to remember, LC works! You WILL lose weight on it, BUT you have to stick with it. Induction is 2 weeks long. After two weeks, switch to OWL. You can eat tons of delicious veggies and salads. You can eat a few nuts. You can eat some LC ice cream. All of course, carb permitting. The reason I strayed from LC WOE before is because I did a very strict induction diet with LC veggies on Fridays (my cheat day). After 6 months, I lost 100 lbs, and decided I was happy being 205, size 14 shirt, 16 pants. So I quit eating LC and eventually gained it all back.

This time, with all the variety and practice applying it to real life, I *know* deeply in my heart that I can make this work for the rest of my life. Not only that, but I'm happy knowing that I'll be eating like this for the rest of my life.

I don't get sugar highs, crashes and headaches anymore. I don't feel deprived. I eat out at least once a week. I dig through the menu to find the LC meal that sounds delicious to me. They're out there. If you want, visit my blog. I've been documenting the restraunts and the meals I'm able to get from them. The only place I've been that wasn't LC friendly was Whataburger and I ended up getting friend chicken strips and fried onion rings. Not the friendliest meal but the best I could do considering I wouldn't be able to eat for at least 6 more hours.

Like I said before, you have to find your reason to do this. You have to do this FOR YOU! The fact that I don't want to cross over to becoming Type II Diabetic is a major one for me. Probably more important to me than any other reason possible. Looking better, feeling better, the compliments are all kindof "bonus". I'm almost getting to the point where I would prefer my LC lifestyle OVER gastric bypass.

I hope there's something in all this that helps you. Talk to us!!! That's what we're here for!!! We want to support you! We want you to succeed.

And Groovy, don't be sorry! We are here to support! We are here for you in the good and the bad!

Man, I feel like a Sexified Goddess everytime I lose a pound. And I know I'm still a fattie but I sure don't feel that way!!!

Every little pound that melts aways make me feel better and better.

It actually reminds me of a pretty funny episode of Dr. Who. Aliens were selling diet pills and every night a pound of fat would detach from the body and run away. They were so cute!

Very cute!!!

Hi Everyone,
Once again, I see I have a lot of posts to catch up on. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend. I had one cheat....popcorn. What is it with me and popcorn? Otherwise, I am proud of myself. Going to make this week a major workout week, going 4-5 times. People are noticing a "shape" from working out. I can tell the muscles in my legs are stronger, but I honestly do not see any "shape" of any kind.....YET! I do notice my pants are all getting too big, what a great feeling.

Will check in later, have a nice night.

I love reading all of your posts. You guys are so upbeat about this, I love it! I really think I can do it this time. I definately want to be down below 200 by Christmas. Can you guys tell me what Oopsie rolls are?

MsTrudy: It's basically egg and cream cheese that makes a bread substitute. A lot of people use them in place of burger buns.

Here is Cleo's info for Oopsies.

Low Carb Examiner - Bow to the Buns: Tips for Trouble-Free Oopsie Rolls - Examiner.com

The Lighter Side of Low-Carb: The Sailor Scouts make my Revol-oopsie rolls!

Sorry for the edit, I've got dinner cooking and had to run, didn't want to lose what I'd posted for ya.

You can definitely do this! We are such a variety of people following different LC plans but we are all trying to make it work. You'll love induction. You lose that water weight and just feel like a Goddess. How much do you weigh now? It'll help us see how drastic of a difference you're trying to make by Christmas.

I'd LOVE to be around 200 by the end of the year. I won't make it at the rate I'm going but I'm trying to eat to my BMR to see if that helps to boost weight loss. First couple of days, yeah, but I had the same results when I started eating a lot of LC veggies. Just gotta stick with it!

Hey everyone! I'm a new poster, and I was enjoying reading the posts on this thread I'd thought I'd make a post myself.

This is my second start with Atkin's, the first one had great results, but I just didn't stick to it, so now I'm back, and ready to stick with it for good this time. The first time I had great results because I had a great message board/support group, so right now I'm kind of just looking for a replacement.

Anyway, hi everyone! Hope to talk to you all soon...

Gypsy - You've found a great group to post with! Welcome (back)!!!

This is my second time doing Atkins as well. And I think at least Fancy (right?) is on her second round. I strayed the first time, but I firmly believe it's because I was on a very strict Induction diet and I just got bored and burned out, so when I hit 205 (size 14/16) I said "ta ta!" to LC and went back to eating all the goodies out there.

Anyways, WELCOME!
