The first time I tried LC was about four years ago. I lost around 45 pounds until life happened and I fell off the wagon. Ended up gaining all that weight back plus a lot more. In January this year I stepped on the scale and realized that if I didn't do something I was going to die. My doctor was recommending knee replacement - an operation I would probably have to have twice since I'm only 43. I didn't like the sound of that at all.

It's been seven months now and I've dropped 90 pounds, all by restricting my carbs. I even had about a two month stall. (Thanks to you all, I finally figured out how to get past it!) Right now I'm carb cycling as it seems to be the only thing to keep the weight loss going. Two days a week I stick to under 20 carbs, but the rest of the week I do the meat fast. When I went to the doctor on June 1st I weighed in at 274, and today I hit 240 -- WOW!!

I'd love to hit my goal weight by the end of the year. What a great way to start 2009!

Akrazael You've done great at weight loss. Glad to see you here.

I'm not sure if I'll finish this month down 5 or down 6 but it's definitely down! Down is the correct direction for me right now as I have another 70 something to lose. I hope everyone is going down!!! Soon we will have a new August thread and set goals for August. Yay! August will be a Stellar month for weight loss. Yes it will.

Happy Tuesday all! I hope wherever our infrequent posters are...you are doing well.

Welcome Akrazael! And congratulations on your loss so far. Maybe you can share some experiences......or secrets

Yesterday, not only did I only eat 18 G Carbs, I worked out for an hour at the fitness center, did laundry, and moved sprinklers all night. It's hard sitting at a desk all day, especially tightening up from my arthritis, but I more than did my share yesterday. Doesn't it feel great going to bed knowing you "did it today"?

Today's menu:
Breakfast-5 sausage links
Snack-cheddar brat (forgot my celery)
Lunch-BLT wrap in lettuce
Snack-celery (if I remember to grab it at lunch)
Dinner-leftover ribs, 1/2 can green beans, cottage cheese

Lots of water in already. I can't go workout tonight because of my nephews tournament game, but I will take a walk when I get home.

Here's to heading out of July cheat-free!

Have a nice day.
Cindy

Quiet in here today!

Not much from me either... My burn is still ouchin' me, but it's much better than it was. I have a hair appt tonight, cut and color, woo! but I have a bit of sunburn on my scalp that might not make it very enjoyable. We shall see. Getting a new 'do is always fun though!

Ummm, diet wise? Nothing to report, following my Atkins plan very well. Things I have noticed that are different from my previous eating is.. less cream, no coffee, less soda, no nuts, less cheese. All things that I tried knocking off to break the stall.. but never all at one time. So, we shall see!

Good Morning everyone !!! I didn't post at all yesterday -- that's not like me at all Work has been crazy and then there are thunderstorms when I get home and I've hemmed my last band uniform last night - whew !

I hope everyone is doing well; Fancy - you rock out loud ! I need to follow you around because you're kicking backside.

Akrazael ! I enjoyed reading your post. This is a great group!

Meg, great job on 5 for the month ! Maybe we can take off 70 together by March ! We went Mexican last night and I cannot believe the self control I had. I dipped one chip in the queso and ate it really slowly and then didn't touch it again. That's a milestone for me-- I was afraid if I ate more than one; I would lose the war. I know the chip isn't LC induction -- but I used to eat the basket of chips w/queso. I ate the chicken quesadilla; I opened it and ate the chicken and cheese and left the tortilla.

Otherwise, I've stayed induction and haven't had any cravings like I did on day 4 of induction last week; so I haven't had to talk myself out of anything ! I got on the scale this morning and I'm down exactly 5 lbs. When TOM goes away, I'm hoping for a Woosh too !! Sunday is my two week weigh in.

Have a great day everyone !

Good Morning all,

Wow has this board dwindled down to almost nothing. I am sure Aug 1st, it will steep, but that is why we are all in this boat. Starting over, starting over, starting over. I am no longer going to start over on the 1st, but if I faulter, as soon as my head is in it, I'm in it! Just because the 1st of the month or the 1st of the year rolls around, we make excuses to "start then". I want to let go of that.....been there, done that a thousand times and with letting go of the fat, I need to let the habits of the past go too.

With that being said, when we slip, let's try to commit to keep posting, posting our boo boo's....we can only learn from each other.

TOM here today, so I am hoping to drop the 2lb July gain by the end of the weekend. I am so ready for my next big loss....before my next cheat
ooops, did I say cheat. I have determined I cannot be completely cheat free, so if I plan a cheat, I focus on today.

Today's menu:
B-5 sausage links
S-2 slices kraft deli mild cheddar cheese
+ 60 oz water down do far.

L-tuna salad on lettuce
S-2 slices cheese...same
D-grilled chicken breast w/1 tsp bbq sauce, fresh cucumber
60 more oz water

No workout tonight, TOM is icky wicky, so tomorrow is one hour!

Have a nice day all.
Cindy

Hi everyone !

I stayed LC today !!! Woohoo !!! I got in 100 ounces of water; a little short of my 130 ounces; but I got up twice in the night last night -- so I wanted to back off a little. I've got some water next to me; but I'm just sipping -- not trying to add it to the tally.

Hope everyone had a good day !

I feel like I'm starting to get caught up a little at work; of course, I brought work home to help with that -- I haven't gotten to walk at the Y during lunch like I had planned so I wanted to get everything caught up so that I can have my lunch hour back.

We've had some cute kitty pictures on the board -- here's my one of furry children -- Lindsay. I'll send pictures of Scruffy the amazing agility dog soon!

Chai,

I'm sorry about Charcoal. He lived a really long time !

We adopted Lindsay (Lohan) R. about about five years ago from the animal hospital about two miles from our house. (My son had a huge crush on Lindsay Lohan from the first time he saw the remake of The Parent Trap.)

A couple of weeks later, a stray shows up outside who looks just like her -- except he's bigger ! She weighs 7 lbs and "Big Head Andy" weighs 12 pounds -- so we have an indoor cat and an outdoor cat -- because he absolutely hates her even though they are identical twins (except in weight)

The poor dog doesn't know if he's coming or going sometimes -- with both cats being moody.

Hi Divas! Welcome Akrazael! 30 lbs since June 1 is awesome. Congrats to all Divas for those losses in July. I am staying steady at 9 lbs gone this month and very very happy with it. Thinking about doing some new mini goals for August. This week has been tough at work, TOM has lingered, and I have had some cravings that fortunately, I conquered. Have had a few days that were too many carbs, but 'legal' carbs. Feeling like I need to refocus.

Love the kitty pic! We have three kittys and a puppy on the way.... the puppy will be 4 weeks old this Saturday, and we are gearing up for our new 'baby'. DS is very excited.

Gonna head to bed. So tired, that I can not even think clearly, but did want to get online and say hello. Hope everyone finishes July off with a whoosh! C U tomorrow to post my August goals.

Chai, thanks for your blog. Just went to your site and love it. Checked out the calculator and it says I am 70 % to my goal. OMG!! I cannot believe it!! Wahoo! That just makes my day! Really changes my perspective right now. Was feeling kinda discouraged this week, but seeing that percentage is a reality check and I am blown away. Seven months into this woe, I have lost 70% of what I set as my goal back in January. Okay, I am psyched now. Thank you, thank you Chai for your blog!!!

Fancyface! 70% is amazing! really does put it in a different perspective! I think we all dwell on the same numbers all the time... so tracking it in a different way really changes something!

As for me... I finally lost the 1lb that puts me down 20lbs officially! :-) One week on an induction menu has given me 3lbs down. Which, while low for induction, is fabulous! Since I was so stalled for so long! I really hope I can continue to lose a few more on this plan! I forgot to bring a snack today though! Wooops!

Anyway, I better start thinking about August goals.. that snuck up quickly!

Hi everyone !!!

I just want to say that I'm inspired each of you -- that is why I joined your board a couple of weeks ago. I see how much how much you enjoy supporting each other, and the amount of weight you've lost and I wanted to be a part of this group.

I check in to see how everybody's doing, read some blogs and then know I can LC the day away !!!

I got on the scale this morning and I was the same as yesterday -- not only is TOM messing with me; but I'm in perimenopause too -- which makes hormone swings a LOT OF FUN. I'm thinking hot flashes ought to burn fat!
I'll have August goals ready for tomorrow too. I'll be sure to get a good workout this weekend because its TAX FREE Weekend -- just in time for back to school shopping (and some me shopping).

I am curious to those who have lost SO much weight already on LC, there seem to be several of you on this board..
Did you really just stay on plan for months/years add moderate excercise and
Lose the weight?
Is there a "secret" I don't know about. If I really just eat this way and add excercise will the pounds continue to come off? I know there are stalls and setbacks etc but my question is generally speaking...I am in awe of your successes!!

I'm not on Atkins. I think Jennifer and Fancyface are. I think the main 'secret' is finding a way that works for you..and then continuing your plan that way. I failed on Atkins so I went to Stillman's..a plan that worked for rme before many years ago. I did three weeks of that and lost about 15 pounds. Then I added low carb veggies and kept my calories under control..with a max of 1,500 a day. I lost about 2 pounds a week on that. Yes, I stayed on my plan pretty well for about 8 months and lost about 80 pounds. Then came the holidays last year, my discovery of low carb foods, candy etc and I simply ate more just enough to maintain apparently and did not lose again until oh about April this year when I went back to what worked for me before. So find what works for you and just keep doing that until it stops working, then re-evaluate your plan if it stops working for you. I keep track of everything I eat so I can go back later to see if something caused me a problem.

Mishelly,
Although I am not losing very quickly this second time around, I can give you some insight on the quick losers as I lost 70 lbs 4-5 years ago in 5 months.

1-Induction is important. I tried to stay on induction 1-2 months before I slowly added carbs up to 30-40/day. I drank at least 120 oz of water every day and eliminated coffee but had an occasional diet coke. Oh, at least 4-5 meals each day is important, with two of those a small snack. I made sure I got my veggies in too.

2-No cheating. The longer you can go without a cheat, the longer you will stay in ketosis burning the fat away. My cheats use to be just a small bowl of popcorn or cereal.

3-I have a feeling that the first time around is always our biggest chance at succeeding. Once our body is use to low-carb, it's hard to go off and on again. We "confuse" our metabolism.

4-Exercise.....hmmmm, I was in need of a joint replacement and I never exercised back then. Lucky I still loss.

Anyone else???

Sails,

For breakfast I usually had 2 scrambled eggs and 2-3 sausage patties or links, or a Jimmy Dean ham and cheese omlette.
Lunch, I usually grabbed leftover meat and cottage cheese, or 2 hot dogs and claussen pickles and cheese. Or a salad of course.
Dinner was always a meat and a veggie.

For my snacks, I usually had celery w/cream cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, sausage, or even a quick hot dog or brat.

Occasionally, I would make tuna and chicken salad, huge salads with grilled chicken and lots of veggies or quiche.

If I was craving carbs bad, I ate the topping off a piece of pizza or two, or bought low-carb tortillas and had tacos.

Water is so important. I drank like I was thirsty all the time.

I ate very few lc candies and puddings etc, but I did eat a lot of sf jello.

Hope this helps. Now if I can follow my own advise, maybe I will loose quicker.

Cindy

Hi Divas! So good to see all of you posting. Congrats on the losses. Chai, 3 lbs is great and Meg, you are definitely in the Century Club! Thanks to all of you for your support.

Mshelly, I am on Atkins and I agree with the others about having to find what works for you.

Especially this. I do not drink coffee anyways, but the other fits me. Sometimes I actually try to get more water than 120 ounces, but I shoot for a minimum of 120 ounces. Now I do have a higher carb day every ten days or so, but for the most part stick somewhere between 35 - 50 carbs per day. I have found that if I eat plenty of blueberries that I feel better.... not sure if that is a mental thing or what, but I seem to have turned into a blueberry monster. --- even to the point of thinking about planting some blueberry bushes in my yard.

I try to not go any longer than 3 hours with out eating some protein (in a meal or a snack) - and have found that helps me from getting hungry.

I am really rambling and very sleepy, so I will see you guys tomorrow. Have a wonderful Friday tomorrow!!
