I know this seems to be an upbeat board, but all of us can't be just having a happy go lucky time with this low carbing, because it is a challenge. Especially to us who are newer to eating this way. We haven't broken bad habits, if that ever even happens! What seems to be hard for you personally? How are you handling personal hardships with this way of eating? What could you use advice with? What is helping you make good choices? How is your family doing with you eating this way?

My family thinks they are starving to death, but none of them is getting off their duffs to make dinner if they don't like what I am making. They seem to be content with sandwiches and making sure I know they are being neglected! My kids aren't kids either, 18 and 17.

I try to plan ahead and do pretty good, but find that even if I plan a salad with a piece of chicken on the side for lunch, when lunch rolls around, I don't want that! But eat it anyway, then feel slighted because it wasnt what I really wanted. Anyone else experiencing that?

Dissie,
You are doing the right thing, hence the reason you are losing weight. This diet does work and I believe quicker than any diet out there.

As far as not eating what you had planned, I have a go-to menu in which I choose from some of my favorites. For example, I didn't want a hamburger patty and cottage cheese one night, so I made my favorite fried cheddar cheese and made some microwave bacon, a claussen pickle and some of those pepperoni chips. BYW, whoever posted this recipe: how long do you nuke the pepperoni? I cooked them a bit over a minute and yes they are delicious. Find your favorites and resort to those.

My husband is so supportive of me...dieting or not. Last night I made him manwhiches and Kraft mac and cheese, I had chef salad. It's easier for me to make separate dinners for us, unless we are having chicken, steak or meat in which I just do not eat the potato, just veggies.

Hope this helps.
Cindy

congratulations to all our wonderful losers!!! y'all are the best!

Cindy, I nuke them about a minute...sometimes I add 30sec's if they arent crisp yet...Make sure you have them on paper towel so they get crisp not soggy.

This way of eating works, we just have to set our minds to it and stay strong. That is hard sometimes, but with support we can do this. Might help us all if people would post what they are finding hard and get input to help us through the hard times.

I know this seems to be an upbeat board, but all of us can't be just having a happy go lucky time with this low carbing, because it is a challenge. Especially to us who are newer to eating this way. WTG, Dissie, Beth and aproudloser! You're all doing so good. If I missed anyone, then congrats to you, too!

I agree, this is an upbeat board and I love that. I am not upbeat all the time about this WOE, but coming here helps. My bad habits are definitely not broken, but I hope they are seriously bent! To be honest I think it's a daily challenge though it does seem to get easier; I can see results and I want them more than I want potato chips. I give away or Ebay any clothing that is too loose.

Here it's just DH and me now, and he's all about me staying on track. He's my cheerleader and my strongest support! I cook for both of us when I do cook, just prepared differently. His chicken is breaded and fried, mine's broiled or on the Foreman grill, I make cornbread for him but can only enjoy the smell, etc. It's okay because it's my choice. It tempts me sometimes but I don't tell him that. I DO NOT ever want to see another pair of 26/28 jeans in my closet! I also get a pic taken about once a month or so and comparing beginning to current reminds me real fast that I may have a ways to go, but I've come too far to give in now. Probably, when your kids begin to see the change in you for themselves, and they watch your determination, they'll be your best supporters and even your "carb police" lol, helping you keep on track! HTH!

I haven't lost in over a month, so I am feeling a little bummed out. I am back to regular exercise though, so I hope that helps.

I had tofu today and yesterday at work for lunch, it makes me swell and I am sure was not the best choice- it was my only choice at work at the time, but I am annoyed anyway.

Hi Dissie. WTG on the scale moving. I find that I don't want food at all right now. The only reason I eat is because I have to have fuel. It's a little discouraging because I know I'm not eating enough calories.

Oh Heidi. I know that must be discouraging, but at least you're not gaining, right? Have you been taking measurements? Maybe they have changed? I remember that I got "stuck" on the same weight for something like 1-1/2 months the last time I was successful on this WOE. I was at a set point. My body just didn't want to go below that number on the scale, but perseverence won out and it began to move again. Stick to your guns, sweetie.

Sassy, how long have you been doing Atkins? Dr. A mentions that some people are incredibly metabolic resistant. In that case they may need to do one of three things as well as following a low carb diet. If you are at the average metobolic rate, you will lose 8 to 15 pounds during the first 2 weeks . . . if you are below average, you will lose less than that. If you are REALLY metobolically resistant, you will lose even less and will need to exercise, take a weight loss product, or restrict quantity of your food intake, or possibly all three.

HTH

I'm doing well, guys. The scale went up and has stayed there, but then again, I'm re-building muscle that I haven't used in 6 weeks. I'm having a bit of a problem getting food in. I'll have to plan better for next week. My caloric intake is too low right now. Just not hungry. Like I said, next week I'll have to plan better.

Thumbs up

Wow! there has been some real losers  on this thread!!! I was down another 1.5 today - Induction

As far as personal challenges go... I find I want the weight to come off overnight (well, on Induction it does!). I've done this plan before and know it's the best one for me. I just get really discouraged and have trouble focusing on all the good stuff that's happened due to this WOE, when I don't lose or lose just a little bit. The good stuff is how much better I feel about myself when I stay on track (notice I didn't say I was being "good" or "bad") And my body feels better - aches and pains, etc. I have more energy without the carbs - as long as I eat regularly. There are so many low carb recipes out there that I just love cruising the recipe room to look for just the right meal for my family.

Oh, and about kids (teenagers) feeling "neglected" I have a 23 year old, 20, and 18. They've been through low carbing. The 23 year old is predispositioned (if that's a word!) for diabetes on both sides of the family so he just eats low carb out of choice most of the time. (and boy, is he one gorgeous young man!!! ) When they all were home, I just cooked up some rice and rolls for them and I ate my meat and veggies. They knew that if they wanted chippy and dippy type teenage food, they could buy it themselves and eat it out of the house with their friends.

Good grief, more posts while I've been writing this "novel"!!!

Sassy and Heidi, I feel like such a whiney baby after reading your posts. You are so determined - I'm so impressed!!!! Have you ever heard of a whoosh? I hope you have one Thursday a.m.!!

Gotta run - oh
today's foods= cottage cheese, meet and cheese rollups, SF jello, CrackerBarrel for dinner - salad with blu cheese dressing (gotta love this WOE!), chicken tenderloins, and green beans. YUMMY!!!!!!

I'll be back tomorrow. (probably as gabby as ever!)

good morning
I'm headed to Tucson to see GYM (yesterday's post) in a little while but wanted to post before I left.

Theresa - wow - you've done really well with this WOE. I'm new to this thread but have been on this board many times over the years. My last absence was a few years, tho. A few years and 20 lbs!!!

Day 5 of Induction...Not enough water yesterday. Scale was up. Does anyone else notice that if they weigh right away in the a.m. their weight is a little higher than waiting say, till after your shower (still am)??? Happens to me almost every time. I can't believe taking a shower releases all that body weight - I'm not THAT dirty!!

Gotta run - breakfast = bacon and eggs
lunch = probably wings and salad at applebees with GYM
dinner = am thinkg the Creamy, cheesy, Italian chicken breasts (crockpot) from the recipe room - have made them before and they are yummy - sorry, I don't know how to link recipes to posts yet.

Have a healthful day!
Barb

me too Heidi....but I've been "playing" around instead of knucking down. i started trying to play with different ways of eating and ended up just getting unbelievable cravings...better to just stick w/ what you know...for me that means i will lose 1 week out of the month.

right now i'm UP...but i'm hoping to get back to break even by Tuesday the 15th...my next weigh in. I can't believe some people starting the same time as me have lost over 40 pounds...Amber and Theresa!!! that's awesome...

Hi everyone!

To those who are discouraged - stick with it! Experiment with carb, fat, water, exercise, etc. but don't give up! The weight didn't come on overnight & it's not going to come off overnight. Unfortunately Be good to yourselves and true to your plan & you'll be a losing machine!

Elizabeth - Hope you're feeling better today

What is helping you make good choices? - wasn't making very good ones over the weekend - but I keep thinking to myself - I can do this! I have to do this! For myself and for my family. I quit smoking almost 8 years ago when I got pregnant and that was so much easier then watching what I eat. In NY - the constant adverstisements and billboards of the consequences of smoking during pregnancy and what it could do to your baby was enough to get me to quit (plus I always promised my husband once I got pregnant I would quit - he was suppose to stop drinking Coke (but he didn't).

This way of eating really doesn't effect my family. Most times my husband has the kids fed by the time I get home from work and I have already eaten at work or will make something when I get home. When I do the shopping - I try to buy Dreamfields pasta so I can enjoy eating with the family when pasta is cooked although it is rare since I do not like pasta that often and no one can tell the difference.

The important thing is you are trying to get back on plan after having a slip. Weekends can be hard. I personally try to stay busy, even if thats just surfing for low carb recipes. Its hard when my favorite channel is the foodnetwork and watching that just hurts my feelings.

Kudos on the quitting smoking. That is something I still struggle with. Just tried Chantix and all those pills did was make me angry and hate the world. So now I am back smoking.

Thanks Dissie - I have been on plan since Monday, but I have not been swimming or doing any exercise. Still probably eating more carbs then I need, but LESS than what I normally would be eating.

I enjoyed smoking. I have been really wanting a cigarette the last few weeks (don't know why haven't been around anyone smoking). I know if I smoked one though, I would be "hooked."

I have been eating right and walking. The scale has moved some but not much. I am not disappointed, just wondering why.
But man, my energy level is thru the roof. I cant sit still long enough to play or read online. SO I am doing a drive by post. LOL
My house is spotless! My appetite today was none exsistant, I had to make myself eat. I dont know what I am gonna do with myself tommorow...no housework to do, unless I dig some closets out. LOL
Oh and I got a call today, that I start back to work on Wednesday. Thats 2 days early, so I will have 20 hours overtime next week! I should be getting plenty of exercise, and be to busy to think about food allday!
