I don't know?

Occasionally I use the Quaker Instant Oatmeal Lower Sugar, but I really prefer plain, ole, steel cut oats, or plain instant oatmeal and I'll add a packet of splenda.

that is sooooo funny!!! sad how easy it is for our little brain "devil" to jerk us back to never never binge land isn't it?

wow I really admire all of you responding specifically to each person that's posted...it's so busy here that I can't even keep the people straight anymore. be patient with me and i'll try to learn all you new ones!!! i'm horrible with names...

Dusk you changed your picture and I was like...where's my little monkey friend??? stop that!!! JK...

ok well i'm at work and i'm starving today so i gotta heat up my turkey meatball soup w/ cabbage...

Migraine from Hades still lingers.... it's my TOM and i'm fortunate that i only have them 1week out of the month now...i had them daily for many many years. so i will count my blessings and deal with it.

good job girls...keep it up.

we really need to do a monthly total to keep track of how much we've lost as a group...i think it would be an awesome number. Does everyone want to report their challenge TOTAL...from the day you started every 15th of the month? Sandy I promise I will keep track...i won't bail and make you do it like starting the new thread!

Turtle...i've never actually done SB...I have a handbook at home and i'll try to look tonight... but oatmeal is very high in carbs...especially if it's not slow cooking oats...

I don't want to speak out of line though...i'll try to look it up.

I'd venture to say it's on the later phases of the plan though. the only thing I can think is that if you are willing to experiment then try it a couple days and see if you still lose. everyones thresholds are different...like i always eat nuts on atkins induction....and seeds too. never stops me from losing...but most cannot eat these.

Sandy is having to give up her cheese.... i personally would refuse to low carb without cheese...but this is what she had to do for her. Some are the same with heavy cream...even though its really minimal in carbs unless you're eating a cup a day or something.

if you're willing to try it out you might find you tolerate it well.
Also, as far as the mindset, yes I do also think it is mandatory in losing weight. Have you ever been on a diet when all you think about is food and how hungry you are?
I personally think i need a mindset to start...but only ketosis is what allows me to stay on plan...once i'm in ketosis, i'm able to sustain myself. i refuse to believe that i'm THAT weak...it really is biological and a physical addiction.

I would have to buy some HAWT NEW CLOTHES if we got on TV...

*** i have no idea why i'm too stupid to figure out how to do multiple quotes in these responses...maybe someone smarter than me can help me figure it out

The problem with me and cheese, is I have a hard time keeping it to 4 ounces a day....I want it on everything. Its my go to food. I dont know if it is causing me problems or not, but I am afraid that I am eating too much.

I think keeping track each month on the 15th is a good idea Missy!

I feel firmer. I dont know how much I weigh or what my measurements are, but I dont feel so pudgy....My stomach is still huge....but more firm!

Good point Sandy...we should keep track of either weight or inches or both --whatever each person feels most comfortable with... that was my point in the beginning wasn't it? inches are more important now aren't they?

I think i will take the roll call post that was last put up and put it into a spreadsheet on my computer and then i'll update it every month and post the total.

The SBD book says that you can add oatmeal back in during Phase 2. Your serving of any grain it says should be no bigger than a tennis ball.

Sandy that is so funny...because the exact opposite happens to me when I lose.

Imagine my tummy on day one is a huge bowl of firm jello. its jello, but its one big mold....you know? now imagine that jello dumped into a big ziplock baggie all mushed up. it's the same amount of jello...but it's all squishy and soft...thats exactly how my gut reacts to low carb dieting...when it gets all squishy like that I know it's breaking down and will start to go soon...but it's very disheartening too...it hangs lower...actually looks WORSE than when i started. sigh.........PATIENCE CHILD!!! Oh and it says that instant oatmeal is no good...it has all the fiber benifits stripped away. It reccommends to use Steel-Cut Oats..

It goes further on to point out that instant oatmeal is bad carbs....I find that pretty interesting!

You're not alone! I can't tell you how many times I've started WW, simply because I could feel virtuous while still eating all my junk because I'd be counting the Points.

While my HEAD would tell me low carb was the thing to do, my CRAVINGS told me to do WW, so for a long time now I've been swinging back and forth between the two, depending upon whether I was in a craving mode or feeling somewhat strong enough to dump the bad carbs.

That habit alone is probably responsible for a good chunk of the weight I've gained in the last few years.

PS Somebody just mentioned having an "LC Monster"...What is that?

Is it the best way? Probably not, but I have to be realistic with myself, and for now, knowing that I can have some dessert-type things is helpful.

I don't really trust any of the artifical sweeteners, so hope to really cut back on them as I go along, but for now, I'll use Splenda products.

The best way, imo, is the way we'll stick with and get the job done. If that means finding inventive and tasty ways to make our favorite dishes low carb and plan-friendly, then that's the best plan. A plan is only as good as how well we follow it, imo.

It doesn't sound like you are letting someone dictate to you what your WOE should be. I would hope no one does, because to make a WOE a WOL, it's got to be tailored to each individual---take, for example, the Carb Ladder. It's not just about adding food back, but carefully monitoring our reactions to foods. Individualize WOE.

You might be interested in trying erithrytol or xylitol--these are naturally occurring sugar alcohols. When we eat fruit, we eat these, in small amounts. One of the "gucci" grocery stores around here even sells organic erithrytol (if nothing else, you can tell by the price! ) lol

Yes, I have the same reaction with one of my chapsticks, a very fragrant vanilla Whole Foods one. I cannot use it, its smell totally triggers a cephalic response in me!

Ugh, I used to get migraines regularly, too. I hope you feel better. Since they've continued while you're low-carbing, have you considered a food sensitivity as a trigger? Maybe something you eat when TOM comes?

I've never done WW, but thought it was weird how I would go down the frozen food isle and find all sorts of frozen goodies of WW products. Now I know.

Squishy is goooooood! Your body goes through adjustment periods. Your fat cells don't want to give up their fat, so they make you hungry, therefore, trying to make you eat. When you don't indulge, the cells will lose their fat and replace the volume with water. It'll only hold onto this water for so long and then it will let it go. Unfortunately, when this happens, the body gets all soft and squishy looking. It looks as if your skin is sagging and drooping and you look just AWFUL! DON'T GIVE UP!! Within a few days, your body shrinks back up! And believe me when I say that one night you will go to bed all frustrated because you look so bad, but the next day, you will see a VISIBLE difference! And the smaller you get, the more noticeable this difference is! It's a wonderful feeling!! I remember when I was almost to goal that one morning I woke up and walked into the bathroom and stopped dead in my tracks. I could not believe that body was mine! It had shrunk up incredibly during the night! So remember, SQUISHY IS GOOOOOD!

I think a monthly weight loss roll call is perfect! I was thinking about that just the other day. I've measured, but I don't plan to re-measure for a while. It was too depressing to look at the numbers.

NO KIDDING?! Yeah, I can see how that would do it. Just the smell of something baking can make me CRAZY with cravings, so I can see how a lip balm would do the same thing. I'm SOOOOOOO glad you figured it out!

YAY! 1/4 pound! That's fabo! Every little bit leads to a lot of bit. And I know what you mean about being realistic in losing 100 pounds by November. It's not for me, either, but I'm heading for a 130-135 pound loss, so I thought this thread would do me some good. I hope I can do the thread some good in the process.

Well, I have some running to do today. Gotta get somethings taken care of before I go back to work. TTFN

Thank you for the suggestions. When you say "sugar alcohols", you don't mean like the ones that people have so much trouble with when they eat the SF candy, do you? I've never tried it, but the stories scare me, lol.

Sarah, thank you so much for explaining how to do the multi-quotes!!! I've been on here for YEARS and never knew how to work that thing.

Dusk, I was a little worried coming into this thread because I know I'll be posting "huge" losses like 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound, maybe one pound if it's an extremely good week. Usually I can lose for ONE week of the month, then the other three are spent maintaining or gaining. Just the way this body has worked for years.

I really wouldn't know what to do with myself if I suddenly got 100 pounds smaller in less than a year anyway, so maybe it isn't so bad getting there much slower. I know I'm going to be getting left in the dust as far as the pounds go, but it won't be quite as bad knowing that I'm not alone.

No matter how slow it goes, we can do this, right?
