Yesterday I was trying to encourage Becky...today I was fighting the chocolate monster, lol. See, my niece tossed a bag of Hershey's miniatures into DH's Christmas gift. He hid them because he knows I can't resist the special dark choc. ones; lucky devil has never had to worry about weight gain. Now I KNOW they are in this house somewhere. I was just wondering if I could stop with just one. I know me better than that. Then I remembered my husband being my best cheerleader right now, and a couple of hours ago he looked at me in the car and told me how proud he was of how far I had come. I couldn't do it. So, a cup of sugar cookie tea and making some of Lynn's chocolate. Found the recipe somewhere on this board and it's supposed to taste like the dark chocolate. I hope this works and I'm not back tomorrow admitting I chased down his chocolate stash!!

Questions: Do you find portion control hard when you make lc goodies like that? And how do you control it?

Portion control is hard with LC goodies, yes. How do I control it? If I just can't stand it any longer and I mean, I'm about to naw my arm off sprinkled with splenda, I make some cream cheese frosting. It's very filling. But most of the time . . . well, the MAJORITY of the time I don't go for the sweets. It puts too much pressure on me to try and control it. Usually I'll go for something like pepperoni chips, or something really fatty to ease the craving. It seems to work for me.

Hey guys, i am gonna do the unthinkable....I am gonna cut back on the cheese....atleast try too. Cream cheese and parmesan is gonna used some, but only sparingly...I love cheese, and it is easy for me to overdo it....cant hurt to try anyway!

Jacee - portion control is a hard thing for me even with legal foods. I wish you luck in that department!

I'm being good.....now, lol. Thanks, you guys. I just made the chocolate recipe I found. I'll let you know how it is. Well, I will probably make 1/2 the amt. next time and that should help some with portion control. Dusk, I will try the "something fatty" alternative. I think I just need to get away from everything sweet for 3 or 4 days and I should have my control back.

Missy, sorry you've been sick but glad you're back. Your posts were what kept me coming back here at first.

I have posted on a lot of different threads, but on this one I finally feel accepted and here is the support I've been searching for.

jennaysteele - is it maybe Jenna?

Checking this thread one more time before bed...I've been getting really inspired tonight at the 100 Pounds Lost thread.

Dusk, thanks for the list--I'm trying to take notes to keep everybody straight too. And maybe it's "Jenna Y Steele"? Either way, Jennay or Jenna, welcome!

Beth, yay on your good day--and Joyce, good job on not getting into the chocolate!

Dusk, thank you for what you wrote about seeing ourselves as successful, even though we can't really see ourselves as smaller. I'm really going to have to think about how I can reframe things for myself. I'm so used to seeing all the negatives about me/my size.

Hey, there was one cool thing today. As I was drying my hair this morning, it struck me that there was something different about my face. I looked a little closer, and it looks like some of the fat is starting to leave my cheekbones. It looks a little bit like my cheeks are "caving in". Oh, and the extra chins/flab under neck look a teeny bit less full. It's not much, but it's a start, and I'll take it. I always lose from my face first.

Also, even though I've felt like having some "junk" to eat tonight, it wasn't an overwhelming urge. I had a piece of cheddar, a few walnuts, and a handful of buttered Triscuits--and call that a success. No Reese's Cups!

Have a nice evening, everyone...

Wow, what a great board we have become. So many ideas and a lot of support here, that's for sure. Welcome newbies.

One thing I have noticed while reading the posts tonight is that a lot of you try to take your old habits such as chocolate and eating sweets and try to find an alternative way to still enjoy the same treats, except for example in a low carb form. I do not buy any of the Divinci's ? or any of that stuff. In my opinion, I am here because I caved to all of the treats and ate without disapline. I previously lost 70 lbs with Atkins, all in 6 months, and I am so mad that I let myself fall back into that mindset and put 40 of it back on over the past 3 years. I am sure a lot of you will disagree with me here, but I do not believe the diet works as well when we are trying to "fill the gap" like we use to. Don't we need to break old habits, and defeat or psycholgical reason for being here in the first place? For example, a friend at work is doing WW. All she talks about is the WW desserts and which one (or two) she tried the day before. She is starving all the time. Does anyone follow me or have I confused myself?

Also, as far as the mindset, yes I do also think it is mandatory in losing weight. Have you ever been on a diet when all you think about is food and how hungry you are? I have found that in December, with my mind made up, I did not cave at all. I honestly believe that if our mindset is there, the diet smooths right along. I cannot believe how easy the past 4 weeks were to stick to this diet. On December 1st, I thought about whether or not I should go back on Atkins. I keep picturing the size 20 clothes that are in my closet and have barely been worn. I keep remembering how much easier I could go for longer walks and most importantly, I have so much energy and I am sleeping better. I want to feel this way for a long time, therefore I will be one of the many who lose 100 lbs by next November. I am so looking forward to all of us helping one another.

My husband had a great idea the other day. Suppose 20 of us lose 100 lbs. He thinks we would be a great Today Show or Dateline topic. "20 women lose a ton in less than a year". Can you even imagine?

Yep, I agree. The problem is . . . well, for many of us . . . we NEED the sweety treats in the beginning so we can keep going through the early stages of our journey. Like, for me, the first day of induction I ate until I wanted to be sick. I had to. If I didn't, I would have caved to the cravings. I ate 3000 calories worth of meat and fat! I think that eventually, we are able to wean ourselves off of them and that this step usually comes naturally. At least, it did for me. Last time I did low-carb, I baked, experimented, and at lost of splenda with cream cheese (with vanilla extract). Eventually I realized I didn't need it anymore.

Sandy, NOT THE CHEESE! Don’t cut the cheese! . . . I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist!

BETH! You’re officially a guppy now that you’ve upped your water intake! Good on ya!

Becky, now you have to do that “cup your chin in your hands” trick so you can feel the difference. I love it when I get to that point.

Joyce, let us know how the increase in fat works out for you.

Bea, how did your day turn out for you?

Dissie, isn’t it great to feel like you’re in more control of the food instead of it being in control of you!? Keep up the good work. Now, onto day 3! Go Dissie, Go Dissie!

Elizabeth! 11.4 pounds! Thatta girl! Be careful tomorrow night and if you find yourself floundering, think of all of us . . . we’ll keep you honest!

Teresa, so how are you doing?

Jacque! Stick with us, Babe, and we’ll help ya get it off.

Jenn, your confusion about posting must be from the withdrawals you’re going through. Yeah, that’s it. Post often, ‘kay?

That goes for all of us. The more we post, the more support we give not only to others, but also to ourselves.

Okay . . . so I’m not going back to work tonight. I will be going back officially Sunday night. Got my release papers and all today. I’ll try not to bore you guys with a bunch of nonsense during the night, okay?

Sandy! I totally am with you on the cheese thing. I abuse cheese. I don't know how to cut back, since it is one of my main foods, I know how, I just can't get there.

Missy, sorry you were sick, glad you are back!

welcome to everyone that I have not welcomed yet.

this is super exciting!

I went to my water exercise class tonight for the first time in 2 weeks! water stuck in my ear, but I survived!

Joyce - when I make things like pumpkin pie, or SF chocolate pudding, I either bake them in portion controlled fashion (muffin cups, mini heart pans, etc.) or I immediately weigh and bag them. We buy nuts in the large can at Sam's, and when we get home I get out the scale and the snack bags and go to town.
