Happy Weekend!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a fun day. Here are some comparison pics - http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...akes-pics.html. Poor quality, but you get the idea.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEIDI!!!

Hi Everyone!!

I hope that you all are having a wonderful weekend!!

Jennifer & Heidi!!

Skinnykid

Well, I have been good but I got on the scale today (I know I should just wait until Wednesday) and I'm up a pound I don't think I've been drinking enough water, so that's my goal for the weekend - get all of my water in!!

Azbarb - Oh my goodness it's so funny that you should mention the difference when weighing yourself in the morning before/after showering - I noticed the same thing!! I thought something was wrong with my scale!

Okay - I'm off to take the dogs for a walk - it will be good for all of us - our dachshund is a little chubby too! LOL

Have a good one

Take Care
Beth

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I've been super busy at work this week, not much time to post. No movement on the scale, I need to get back to the gym and drink more water.

I hope to have time to catch up on everyones posts later today. Talk to you all soon!

Throwing in the towel on LC...

Hi, everyone...Just catching up on the thread--congrats to those of you who are seeing losses!

I've had an extremely discouraging and frustrating week, weight-wise. Even though I am two years past menopause, I still have that "pms" weight gain every month. Have no idea why that is, and it drives me nuts.

This week was no exception. I ZOOMED back up to 274.4. After seeing that number on the scale, I was thrown into an emotional eating, carb craving frenzy, which I'm sure didn't help.

I'm realizing that I am not helping myself by trying to do Atkins, but not being able to stick to it-most likely due to emotional eating and craving that "high" that comes from eating carbs.

I've tried and tried and tried and tried to white-knuckle my way through low carbing, and I'm just exhausted with trying and failing every time, so today I've decided that I need to leave it alone for awhile and try another way of getting a grip on myself.

Though I am no longer a fan of "low fat", I know that I need to address my portion control issues and my emotional eating, so, starting tomorrow, I'm going to try following Weight Watchers and see what happens. I don't know if it'll work or not, but not enjoying/not being able to stick to low carbing isn't working either, so...?

Is it ok if I continue to post here, even though I'm not going to be doing low carb for awhile? (Who knows, I might switch back to it at some point. I just don't know.)

Becky, you are an expert on your body and your feelings, I am glad you are taking a close look.

I need to look into portion control, that has always been my downfall, that and emotional eating. It is really flipping HARD though, huh? geez, I sometimes wish things could just be more simple.

I hope everyone is hanging in, this weekend.

Becky - I hope you figure things out soon, and are able to continue your path to good health

I've been sick since Wednesday, but also stayed on plan. We had christmas with my family yesterday (they were out of town over the holidays), and I also stayed on plan. Having been through 3 holidays already, yesterdays "holiday meal" was a no-brainer. Thank heaven!!!

DH has kept me fed and on plan despite being sick. Keep up the good work, and take your vitamin C !!!!

Thank you for the support, ladies!

I've actually decided to keep trying to stick with low carb, no matter how long it takes before I'm successful with it. I've never done well on WW--too hungry, too many cravings, hate counting Points, etc.--so I don't know why I thought it would be good to try again. I've been having constant carb cravings lately, and also thought WW might be less of a burden to our budget than low carb foods.

One of my goals for this year was not to get back up into the 270s, but I did get back up there this past week. Nothing to do now but move forward, right?

Becky,

In my opionion, it appears your mind is not totally into dieting. It's simply to darn hard to want the weight off so badly, yet struggle to stick to a diet. Been there, done that a hundred times. It took almost two years to get my mindset on low carb again. Finally....it came and so far so good. We cannot just want something and wish for it without effort. Easier said than done, huh, I am right there at your size and I know exactly what you are going through.

With that, I am so happy that you are choosing to stick to low carb. I seriously believe that low-carbing is so much easier than WW or low fat diets. Basically, we can eat and eat, but we need to be careful of our food choices. How bad do you want this? If you want to get back into the 260's, how about a two-week goal to start? Plan your meals, buy your food, have your emergency low-carb snacks handy, drink at least 60-70 oz water every day and count down 14 days. Before you know it, two weeks have past, you will have energy, and chances are.....you weigh 260 something. You and I are so close in weight. How about we both go 14 days no cheats, lots of water and check our progress. We all are here to help each other, and I am ready to grab your towel before it hits the floor and support you 100%.

You may wonder about the mindset thing. If you lose after sticking 100% for 14 days, perhaps your confidence and feeling better about yourself will help with your willpower. Remember, we may not be the prettiest thing outside, but we are absolutely gorgeous inside

Sound ok, tomorrow is a new day, tomorrow is day 1. Jan. 27 is day 14.

Cindy

Becky,

One thing I forgot to mention. My start weight is 280, but I actually clocked in 295 at the doctor late in the summer. I lost 15 lbs on my own in Sept & Oct, which gave me the willpower to continue this battle.

In addition, last night was my Xmas party for work and I had cheesecake. Ok, it was so good, but I just felt guilty as heck. The feeling I have when I do not cheat over powers that darn food satisfation feeling by far.

Becky, I've been where you are. I lagged away from LC for a couple of years, gained another 20 lbs. and here I am... again! I would have done better not to lag away- I tried WW and kept thinking about all the low fat myths they talked about in meetings - not for me. Some people, yes, but not me. Jennifer's pics and the fact that she's still going strong on LC is so encouraging - I hope it helped you, too.

This thread is so helpful - thanks everyone!

Happy Birthday Heidi!!!!!!! How was your day? Are you at a point where you can have LC cake?

Hi everyone, hope the weekend was great for you all.

I clocked in at 217 this morning, felt good to see some movement. For this week I am going to drink more water (still) and head to the gym on Tues/Thurs to do some cardio (elliptical). It would be really nice to be in onederland again. I was there once but I fell off the "wagon" and haven't been under 200 since. It would be real nice to be there in a month (onderland by valentines day), but, that would be 3.94 pounds / week. I don't have a problem staying on plan now, I'm very happy about that, but I think some of my choices are slowing my loss down (I think it might be too much cheese and/or sodium) After tomorrow I will cut out cheese to see what kind of results I see. (I say tomorrow because I already prepared my lunch for tomorrow and it has pepperjack in it.)

Elizabeth - Just wanted to thank you for mentioning the LC Monster drink.. I picked one up the other day at WM and liked it. I might have to go get a case at Costco now.

Hope everyone is drinking their water!

Good morning, everyone! Thank you all for the encouragement and support that you've given to me.

I'm starting fresh (yet again) today. Cindy, thanks for "picking up my towel"! I appreciate the thoughts you shared.

Besides my struggling mindset, one of my main problems is that my dh and I live on a small fixed income, and just the thought of trying to stretch our very limited dollars over the healthful foods I need throws me into the urge to eat. With prices rising so quickly on everything these days-and that's on healthy produce, meats, and dairy, not just junk foods-each trip to the grocery store gets more depressing and discouraging. Around here, we don't have any Aldi's, or any of those other discount grocery places.

There's no denying that, when the budget is extremely tight, it's cheaper to make a big pasta or potato dish and stretch that over several meals.

I'm going to do the best I can to buy the lower carb items though. Both dh and I could stand to cut down on our portions anyway, so that might help make the groceries last longer too.

I have only one week a month where I lose, and I think this might be the week, so hopefully I'll have some progress to report by this time next week.

Jennifer, thank you for posting your photos--what wonderful inspiration they are! You've done a great job!

Have a great day, everyone--and I hope you feel better soon, Barb.

I'm here! LOL
Got a slow start today - went back to bed after DH left for work. We have coffee together in the a.m. It just starts our day out well. Since I had trouble sleeping (due to coughing) the last couple of nights, it was nice to be able to go back to bed (not the couch) and sleep. The dogs joined me so I was nice and cozy.

I feel much better today.

I did weigh myself and posted my new stats. Course it was BEFORE I've taken a shower!

Got to go pick up my daughter from school.

Have a healthy day. Remember to drink your water.

Becky,
Is there any way you can go to a town where they have a discount grocery store and stock up? Maybe put aside some money, go once every two weeks or once a month and just buy for the whole month. It doesn't make sense why healthy food is more expensive then unhealthy stuff. Very unfair!

Very unfair indeed. Ive seen many threads with different views on $ and LC. Some say it is cheaper NOW b/c they aren't eating out all the time and getting loads of fast food. Others say it is cheaper eating non~LC b/c its cheap pasta,potatoes,rice....and yes, little debbies for $1 a box. Im in the others group. I know how far I could make $ stretch before buying LC. Sure tuna & eggs are cheap but that doesn't make a meal every night. Veggies & meat aren't cheap. There is a thread here called another round of cheapskate lowcarb that is quite helpful.Posting it incase yall havent seen it.
It is time for another round of cheapskate lowcarb!

Becky,

I have to agree...low carbing can get expensive. I figured that the grocery bill for my husband and I has gone up about $25/week. Of course I don't eat out as much, but I do get a McD's salad at least once a week and a big roast beef from Arby's or a piece of KFC chicken and peel the skin off.

I would check out the link someone sent for saving money ideas. I know a meatloaf goes a long way, eggs are cheap, chef salad made at home is cheap, canned vs frozen veggies even though frozen is better, chicken breast etc.

Good luck with your fresh start. Think positive and you can do it.

Cindy

With Monday as my weigh-in day, I am so happy to announce my 4 lbs loss. I had cheesecake at our Xmas party Saturday night and I thought for sure, I had ruined the whole week. I limited myself to one beer, ate all of the filet mignon and a bite of carrots, no potatoes and no rolls.

I'm not exercising yet....other than the long walk to and from my mom's hospital room. I need to get with it and force even 15 minutes every night. I am finally in comfortable size 24 pants......good bye 26's......FOREVER!!

Good for you on the 4lbs loss--and also the size 24s!

I can't wait to get back into my 24s. I have two pair of size 26 jeans that fit right now, and they are getting VERY worn out. The material is getting so thin that I don't think I'll be able to mend them any more. I know I'm going to need to buy some new jeans soon, but I so very much do not want to have to buy another pair of size 26.

You're doing well!
