I am down 14.6 for the week.... last night my ankles were huge, forgot to take my blood pressure pill yesterday I look at my ankles when I climb into bed last night... and went immediatly and took it...

I weigh in at 344.6 this morning... maybe this week I will make it to the 330's and on to the 320's I go.....

so far this year I have lost 71.4 lbs, thats not to bad... leaves me with around 29 lbs to lose to make my 100.... would still like to do it by the end of the year... but would be happy to make it sooner

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.... hopefully everyone will get in here this week to post and let us know how you are doing... I would love to hear from gran, bpgurl, tannie oh no! I knew I should have never named names, I am so bad with names.... but I miss everyone when they are not here.....

I will be back later to check in

Morning ya'll!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Thanks Lisa for starting the thread this week. Lost 4 pounds last week so that brings me to 46 pounds down this year total - 36 for the challenge. I'm at 283 - someone please send me the whoosh fairy to hit the 270's Saturday.

Need to step up on the walking this week. Was really bad in my food choices this weekend - will step up and do better this week.

Everyone take care - will check in later today.

Hey Ladies:

I had a fabulous Saturday all to myself. I went thrift shopping. Bought two really great "diet & nutrition" books. One is the Protein Power book Divine was reading. The other is an Oprah book with Bob Green. I know, kind of hoaky, but I really enjoyed reading how she was feeling during the time she was losing weight and when she was at her heaviest. So far I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait to get into the guts and hear her little tips and hints for better weight loss. She disses low carb in the beginning and I was kind of sad about that, but regardless of her diet and my WOE, I'm hoping the exercise tips, snacking tips, etc. help out a bit. I've read a little bit in the Protein Power book. Can't wait to get into that one too.

I was down on Friday to 183.2, back up to 184.4 Like I said, I have to lose these lbs about 6 times before they finally stay off.

Hey Bug: I'm wearing my boots today! Congrats on your great losses.

Lisa: You always do so well. Great job with your loss. You will be at the 330's soon. I told my friend and my mom I'm shooting for 5 lbs by the end of November. I hope I can do it. Oh, I have days when I get out of bed and I can feel the swelling in my ankles. I'm not on blood pressure medication. It's just hormones or something, but yuck. I always feel so icky. Those are the days I drink tons of water and green tea to flush out the water my system is hanging on to. Thanks for starting the new thread.

Hello, everybody...

First, Penny: You poor darling, to be in such pain! I promise you I'll pray for your daughter and for your own quick recovery. As for that hit-and-run, I know it's awful, I know...but thank God in His heaven you all came away from it in one piece.

I'm sorry I haven't been around. Too much going on lately...my dear aunt collapsed last week, and we now know for certain it is cancer. She turned 69 last week, the day she was rushed to the hospital, and it was also our youngest one's 10th birthday. Just sad and many tangled emotions.

As for the woe, I'm still on it and trying to keep my head above water for now. I lost 13.2 lbs. or so last week, then came to a screeching halt, and the scale started fighting me from that point on. It's been up 2-5 lbs, I get it down, it tries to climb again. I think this is a sign of what is called "burning Virgin Fat Mode" (!), since I haven't been this low on the scale in many years. So I'm just sticking with Protein Power and Stillman's (KE) to keep that loss down. My aim this week is a maintain, just to give my body time to adjust to the new low wt. The main thing is experimenting with the highest amt. of fats I can eat and still lose weight.

That is it in a nutshell...I hope all of you are doing very well this week! I'll do my best to stop in more often, but this week will be more busy than usual. So I'll drop in and say howdy as much as I can!!!

Take care and God bless!

Lisa - I weightloss books. They are so inspiring and give me such a little high that "I can do this". I read them a lot. My walking has been so limited these past couple of weeks. My work hours have been so long that I find it very hard to get up early to walk and I just can't walk at 1AM or later at night. My goal is to hit at least 4 days a week for 30 minutes - usually about 1.5 miles. I try for this - some weeks it doesn't happen but I try.

Divine - Bless your heart It seems like a lot of us are going through so much lately. We must all stand together and be strong for one another! You try to take care of you - check back in when you can. We love your inspiration and wisdom that you give!

Dream - I did LOVE my boots. I can't wait for the weather to get just a tad bit cooler so I can start wearing them all of the time. Right now, it's still so hot here in the south.

My new pants that I bought that were just a bit tight giving me that fashionable 'muffin top' are getting a bit loser - I'm wearing them today and they are so comfortable. I overheard my DH telling one of his friends about my weight loss and how it was 'melting right off'. Trust me, it ain't melting. It is HARD! I'm not complaining - it's just not that easy. We all have to work hard to get what we want. There's plenty of things I would absolutely LOVE to eat but then I think about those jeans/tops looking so good on me and that outweighs the food. Funny how self psychiatry works on yourself.

My pants may be getting a little bit loser too because I have changed where I'm giving myself my daily shots. I was doing it in the stomach and I actually think my stomach was a little puffy from them. I've quit for almost a week now and my pants fit better. I'm giving them to myself now in the arms or my DH gives them to me in the rear - that's fun. LOL

I hope everyone has a great day. Hang in there - we can do this together!!

Divine- so sorry about your aunt, I will lift her up in my prayers as well as you and the rest of the family... WTG on the weight loss, what does that bring your total to? "burning Virgin Fat Mode"I have never heard of this, must go ang google now....lol... I too seem to have points in my weight loss, were the pounds just dont won't to go below that number.... it took me for ever to get to 350 and now I bounce up and down this morning I am at 344.8, yesterday it was 344.6 my scales just don't seem to want to go any lower.... Hope you have a really good day this day and the rest of the week.....

Bugs, Dh sounds really proud of you.... As well as you soon be awesome... YOu have lost a tremedous amount of weight in a very short time.... KUTGW!

As for me like i said I am up .2 lbs this morning.... I felt like i was going to be down..... Oh well, maybe in the morning.... I was walking out my front door yesterday when my dh said there is a huge knot on the back of your leg... I look in the mirrow and it is huge... I thought must be a vein, I have had several pop up since losing weight... but last night, it begin to burn so I have made a appointment for this afternoon to go and see the doctor, to make sure its not something else....

Divine: It's good to hear from you. I'm sorry about your aunt. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Congratulations on your weight loss girl. 13.2 lbs in one week. Now if I could just get three of those weeks in I would be so close to goal! I'm reading Protein Power. I haven't got into the meat of it yet, but hope to soon.

Lisa: .2 is nothing. You have probably lost, but it just hasn't shown up yet. I know we look for a loss every morning, but a maintain morning is okay. I drank water and took meds before weighing this morning so of course I didn't show any loss. I know I ate waaaaaaaaaaay to much yesterday anyway. I've got to concentrate on portion control and drink more water to keep me full. I'm really struggling with eating between 3:00 and 6:00. I can't seem to get full. My salad fills me up at lunch and then around 3:00 I'm really hungry again, so I eat healthy snacks and still can't get full which leads me to eating way to much. I ate nuts on the way home from work. I had a salmon patty last night, two cheese sticks and some campari tomatoes for dinner. A very small plate of food and oh so good. But BEFORE dinner, I had an apple. So there go the carbs.

Bug: It's perfect boot weather here. Congrats on the clothes getting looser. You are doing great! DS's music teacher always comments on my shrinking size. He tells me if I'm not losing, I'm toning beautifully. He's like a fitness nut, not an oz of fat on his body, he runs, bikes, etc. all the time and he's probably 10 years older than I am. Perhaps he's just not used to me because he only sees me about twice a month.

Penny, Holli, Tiffani, Kbetz - where are you? I miss you. Check in and let us know how its going. Okay!

Dream I know .2 is nothing to worry about, just wish it was .2 the other direction...lol

it sounds like your blood sugar might be dropping at that time.... the salad does not have enough protein maybe.... up your protein and see if that doesn't help more with the cravings.... you could try to add maybe some cheese and sunflower seeds.... or some meat to your salad, if you have not already.... just a thought anyway....

be back in alittle bit

I just posted this in the playground.

Suck up co-worker brought in this fabulous spread for all of the wonderful bosses - we have three - she’s feeding everyone in the office. It consists of chocolate cake, doughnuts, potato chips, chicken salad sandwiches, Ritz crackers and some type of cheese spread. Of course, the other secretaries and one of the bosses go in and start eating. They come out and boss comes over to me and says, “You’re not eating.”

Well, first of all I wasn’t invited to the little spread. Second of all, what could I actually eat?? He knows that I’m watching what I’m eating so I told him there really wasn’t anything that I could have with my diet. He then proceeds to tell me that the sandwiches are on wheat bread so I can have them with the Ritz crackers and cheese spread. I told him not really but that was okay.

I go to the bathroom a little while later and overhear him talking to another co-worker that I was on that no carb crap diet and killing myself by not eating the ‘good stuff’ in life.

Yep, made me feel really special - thanks boss man!

people are so funny... Yea right, ritz crackers and bread, like trans fats are good for you.... It funny to me that people still don't get what this diet is about.... excuse me this way of eating...(WOE) I know before I started eating this way, I thought I felt ok.... never knew that I could feel better.... it wasn't until after I went on atkins and was on it until the introduction flu ( detox from carbs) did I really feel really good, more energy, alot of pains gone, they just don't get that its healthy.... Surely they can see how good you are doing....

And WTG on staying strong, when temptation comes your way.....

Hi Lisa: Yah, our posters are dwindling. I'm sad because its fun to be a chatter box and it helps me think of what I might do to change things up or sometimes state some goals. Maybe we should start a new thread under a new title to see if we can get some newbies.

Anyway, I'm up too this morning. 185.4. But that's me, up down up down. I didn't eat very clean yesterday so I kinda figured. I know I consumed way more calories than I should have. So this morning, although carby, I had sf oatmeal. Sometimes when I switch breakfast, it jumpstarts a loss again. I'm going to try to eat very clean today. I brought celery for between meals if I get hungry. I also brought an extra LC yogert. I read an article yesterday on weight loss tips that said to up your calcium intake by eating yogert three times a day. I don't think I want it three times a day, but I could probably do twice. Its only 4 carbs per serving and 60 calories. I'm already taking a multi vitamin with extra calcium and one calcium supplement a day.

Bug: Great job on resisting the spread. People who don't do this WOE don't understand it. Its silly that they don't because the results are certainly there. I've been criticized for doing it too. People's reaction, even my daughter's was oh, that's not good for you. She tried WW and didn't lose anything, so whose plan works now? Hmmmm.

Have a great day everyone.

Hey ya'll!
It has been so quiet in here lately. I like checking in throughout the day and 'seeing/talking' to people.

Lisa - You will have some FABULOUS legs when you get to where you want to be. Just keep visualizing them!

Dream - some days are just easier to resist than others. Here lately, it hasn't been hard at all. Catch me next week and I may be ready to hurt someone for something that is devlishisly chocolate.

I'm going to start walking at night I think if I can get home by 11:30pm. Trying to get up earlier and walk and also trying to get sleep doesn't seem to be working for me. Last night I walked at night and slept like a baby afterwards.

Everyone take care. I'll talk to ya'll later!

Dream I just started taking A Ultimate Probiotic formula, its called Acidophilus it has 2 billion live organism per capsule its the same as eating yogurt.... I don't really care for yogurt unless it is the ice cream kind it suppose to surport intestinal system... I've notice it also seems to be helping with bathroom issues....

Bugs I sure hope my legs look awesome when I get the weight off... never had pretty legs before

I got my walking poles in this morning and went for a 1/2 mile walk at the park... I think its still half a milk... I notice the sign when I got to my car, was to pooped to go back and read it again...

the Poles really do seem to help with my balance, also its suppose to increase all body workout, by using your arms more... I also notice my body twisting from the waist up while I was walking.... and funny to say, I was alittle sore after doing it... thats surprising.... I was able to look forward and walk without looking at the ground.... Ladies me being so overweight for such along time... My balance is terrible.... but with the poles I felt really confidant.... In my mind? Maybe a little, but I really feel like the poles make a big difference....

Oh, I am making my dh a pot of Lc bean soup.... the beans are Ford Hook Beans ( Lima's) they are the lowest in carbs and my dh favorites.... Allie from the main board gave me her recipe for them..... its got sausage, ham, smoke sausage, onion, bell pepper in it....

maybe next week I will change the title of the thread, what about moving it to the regular challenge boards instead of it being on the century challenges.... not much going on the century challenges anymore.... I found tannie over on the 300 lb board as well as some of the others.... I too miss everyone being on here... i really need the support and someone to talk to during the days when I check in....

well, I need to go and check the soup, will be back later

Hey, Girls: Thank you so much! I wanted to say I'm peeking in while I can! Yesterday was a hard day; we found out my mom has atrial fibrillation. She has not been feeling well since word of my aunt's illness. Now we know the physical cause for my mother's most recent symptoms, but...Atrial fibrillation is not a good thing and the protocol for treating it is scary, too...that horrible Coumodin and possibly electric shocks to the heart. (One of our cousins bled to death because of Coumodin!). We will have to go to the lab 3x a week for blood tests as the "thinness" of her blood is measured...it has to be thin for at least 6 weeks until the next step.

I won't get into how I feel emotionally; I know you will understand without me explaining it in words. But I did think I'd collapse last night once I got thru the first shock of the news...

On a slightly brigher note, I will tell you I got the mother of all Whooshes yesterday and again this morning after eating a HIGH FAT, moderate protein menu (97 fats, 35 total carbs, 102 proteins). Incredible! I'm still shaking my head in amazement.

So today I made it to 80.8 lbs. total loss. (Darn, that took long enuf!) I say that because, as you sweeties may recall, I mentioned I hit 79.6 lbs. about 12 days ago, and then that scale has been fighting to go right back up ever since.

I figure my body was in shock, too, at hitting that new low, so I had to soothe it by just staying on the woe and not giving in. But it was hard when that scale went up a total of 7 lbs., a little bit every day, and there was no cheating! Some of it was water weight (rain = swollen ankles!), but still!

As of today, despite the blasted fluctuations since 10/5, I have dropped 14.6 lbs. and I can't believe it! They're not kidding when they say PROTEIN POWER!!!

So, Dream, if I may, I'd say get right to the nitty gritty of the Protein Power books (and get Protein Power Life Plan if you can, since it does have new info and an easier chart to use) and, if you'd like a great shake up, apply whatever principles make the most sense to you.

For example, I am supposed to have a minimum of 120 proteins a day, but I can't manage that (yet) without gaining. BUT there is one small line somewhere that mentions women in our age bracket seem to do well with 100 grams of protein a day (more or less). Sure as the Northern Star, that's working for me! Lisa, it might help you, too...you and I seem to share the "swollen ankles" phenomenon!

So I have been experimenting (what else is new, right?), and perhaps my most recent experience will be of help to you (w/o going thru what I did with that battle of the scale last week):

---Up your fats first! Keep carbs to 30 total (not net, which is the opposite of what PP suggests...but if you know you are very carb intolerant, as I know I am, it it best to raise those babies slowly). Fat has no impact on insulin, unlike carbs, so don't be afraid of the good fats (butter, olive oil, macadamia nut oil, extra virgin coconut oil...stay away from soy and canola and vegetable oils).

--Exercise on a fairly empty stomach; weight training (esp. for women) is the best way to go to trim down, gain lean body mass and lose fat. That contradicts what we hear about cardio - which is good for some things but doesn't give us all the benefits for which we are working.

What we want is "power and strength" which means "speed and endurance." The Protein PP book provides tips on this idea, and I'm incorporating them.

Here are a few tips:

--After strength or cardio training, don't carb up afterward; instead, eat fat and protein (which, with the exercise affect, will promote the growth hormone - which is exactly what we need to lose FAT, not lean body mass!). Eating carbs stops the growth hormone right in its tracks - so give the body the protein it needs to repair muscles and feed the growth hormone that will help us lose wt.

Basically, my woe stayed the same except for the following slight changes:

-Instead of PAM Olive Oil spray, I cooked with fat (butter) or added fat to my salads (real bacon bits, real ranch dressing, shredded Genoa salami!)
-I had two 4 oz. servings of low-carb, fruit yogurt each day for the past 2 days as a follow up to breakfast and lunch
-I drank well over 100 oz. of clear water each day, plus 24 oz. green tea lemon (hot, with stevia - no aspartame bottled stuff!)
-I added 2 tbsp. fresh flax seeds to my luncheon salad.

So what had me drop over 8 lbs in 2 days? I think it was a combo of the higher fats and the low-carb yogurt and loads of clear water to flush those ketones out of the bloodstream. (I read a few articles in which it is claimed that YOGURT seems to pull out more tummy fat than any other dairy product. Amazingly, I'm losing with yogurt but I maintain or even gain a bit when eating cottage cheese, non-fat or not.)

Btw, I'm all for a new challenge name for next week: How about "Challenge: Goal of 100 LBS by Christmas!" Or "CHEAT FREE Holidays" or "Christmas: Getting to Goal" (which could fit anybody)...

Hi again ladies:

Yah, I think the 100 lb mentality always hits at the beginning of the year. So how bout a new challenge or a new support thread of somekind. I like the Christmas idea. We may attract new people that way.

Divine, now you've got me so curious about PP. WTG on your loss. I need to find the time to dig into the book more. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. My mom is on a pace maker. She was finding herself so short of breath and sometimes unable to get enough oxygen. They said it was because her heart wasn't beating up to speed pumping the blood through her system. Yah, scary.

Lisa: I found the Protein Power book at Goodwill for a dollar.

Hi Bug:

Have a good afternoon.

Penny: Oh, I cannot tell you how sorry I am to hear this. Please let us know how she is doing...I can only imagine what you are all suffering right now. I will pray for you and yours every day; promise.

Dream and Lisa: Is there not a Protein Power outline on this board? I thought there was, but the last I looked it wasn't active. I just can't recall if someone provided an outline.

I will say the premise is very simple. During the wt. loss phase, keep carbs to 30 (they recommend net, but I do total because I know how my body will respond). Have 7-10 carbs per meal (along with your protein). You can have the carbs between meals, but having them with proteins or soon after seems to negate the blood glucose level.

--Eat at least a minimum of the recommended protein amt. (which, in general, comes out to your LBM). For me, it's about 40 protein grams per meal (but I can't yet have that much; I'm working on it, though). Lisa, it will probably be about 45 per meal for you...Dream, probably 30-35. Remember, that's a minimum, and if you can have that amt. and still lose, I say go for it! If not, just bring it down a bit every day until the scale moves. Finally, for women in their 40's or older: the Eades find that about 100 protein grams a day seems to be the best level. I find that to be true for me.

--Use real fats, liberally! IF one finds that wt. is going up, first cut back the fats a bit until you are losing again. If that doesn't work, scale back just a bit on the proteins, but not the carbs. Most of our calories come from fats, anyway...I went from 1000-1100 calories up to 1600 in this past 2 days...and couldn't believe I lost weight.

Then, of course, there are the supplements, which are similar to what Dr. Atkins recommended but with a few updates and comments from the Drs. Eades. They have a section on exercise which is quite interesting.

Basically, it's a good idea to have blood tests first, so you and your doctor can check kidney and renal function, your chemistry panel (incuding electrolytes), and so that, as you supplement, you won't overdose on certain minerals (like potassium). We can get into serious trouble (including heart failure) if we don't have enough potassium (90 mg needed per day, which includes certain foods that contain it)...also calcium and magnesium TOGETHER (as Dr. A recomended), Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol base is the best) WITH selenium. Chromium picolinate, zinc (15 grams per day), Omega 3's (fish oil or flax seed or flax seed oil)...but these are general guidelines; it's always best to talk to your doctor if you have any medical issues or are taking medicine, so that he or she is aware of any potential dangerous interactions.

Now please know I really recommend reading the books...Protein Power was first published in 1996, as I recall, but Protein Power Life Plan is more recent and updated. Yet they turn out to be companion books, so do get both if at all possible.

I like the 2nd book for one thing in particular - the charts, instead of the formula provided in the first book, to help us figure our protein grams for the day. The formula is more precise, but I admit I simply wasn't up to figuring out any more formulae!

The only thing I don't like is the constant emphasis on our evolution...I don't believe in evolution; they do...whatever floats your boat. I'm more interested in the scientific evidence in regard to metabolism and hyperinsulinemia, so I just do my best to ignore what I consider a non-issue anyway.

Another good book that outlines most of the low carb plans is "The Secret to Low Carb Success: How to Get the Most Out of Your Low Carbohydrate Diet" by Laura Richard. It's a good one and has great tips..includes info on Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, The Zone, SugarBusters, Protein Power, etc.

Thanks Divine for all the information.... I remember on time before I upped my carbs by eating a piece of fruit a day and it did seem to make the scales move faster........ I am up yet another .2 lbs this morning that brings me back up to 345... darn so hoped I would be in the 330's by now....

I did kinda of a power walk yesterday with my new nordiac walking poles and I have been doing arm and chest, upper back exercises while sitting in bed at night.... I guess I could be gaining alittle muscle... I dont know... Just wish the scales would show a lost......

penny- just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you... and that you are in my prayers today...

Hey ladies. The scale was up again today and I was a good girl yesterday. But I also delved into my Protein Power Book last night. So 30 carbs a day is what I'm shooting for and the appropriate amount of protein. I ate at the 30 carb a day level for several months and lost quite a bit, but stopped losing after a while, so I upped my carbs and started losing again. Its time to back off and start over. If I could only stick with it. I packed a wonderful lunch today and healthy snacks to keep my carbs at the appropriate levels. I just dont know if I can eat this way every day. I'm going to try so I can lose 5 by next weigh in with my group.

Penny: You and your daughter are in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be. Please take care. Know we love you and are here for you.

Lisa: Whats up with us? I'm truly hoping my weight increases are due to TOM around the corner, but I'm not quite sure about that because some months TOM doesn't even come around. Who knows. I've got to blame it on something. I walked the hills yesterday and the day before, in addition to climing the stairs 10 times before work and working my arms. I haven't been able to get to the gym, but hope to. May whooshes come our way soon!

Divine: I'm liking the book. I will look for the second like you suggested. Yah, I'm not that into figuring the formulas, etc. but I'm going to. I saw a book that provided protein grams like the carbohydrate book I have, so I think I may go back and buy that to help me know exactly how much protein I'm eating with out having to jump on to fitday or some other site to check. I think, after reading, I'm not getting enough protein or fats. I need to do some precise calculations.

Hi everyone else!

Lisa and Dream: Don't forget the good fats, either! Today was so busy, I didn't get the fats in as planned...so I went so far as to swallow down 2 tbsp. of flaxseed oil. That got 'em up!

Lisa, the walk might account for the slight gain. That really wasn't a bad exercise gain at all! It's just your muscles, hanging on to water and protein to repair themselves, so never worry about exercise gains!

Ladies, I can look up the protein gram level recommended for each of you...I just need to know your exact height and weight. I'll look at the "easy" chart for you!

Btw, I dropped another 2 lbs. this morning - was I happy to see that! I was a bit freaked to see the calories at 1600 yesterday and thought I messed myself up.

Also, I saw the doctor today - my bp (without meds) is now 110/70! HURRAY!!! So I'm "officially" off them, per the doctor (I was off them before this, since I have a bp cuff at home and I was monitoring it, tapering off the meds as I went along). Tomorrow I'll have a mammogram and blood tests, since I wanted a chemistry and lipid profile. I needed my yearly mammo, anyway, but I've been having pain inside one...but the doctor says my mammary ducts are inflamed and he thinks it is due to the light weights! He says this happens to exercising women more often than people know. Geez Louise, and I was taking it easy with the weights! It smarts, let me tell you.

Btw, the doctor said nary a word about the wt. loss - but the nurses and receptionists went bonkers! That was a real uplift but also strange...it's been a looong time since I receive regular compliments!

Last weekend, at the pool, an older lady came up to me as I was exercising and asked me, "Did your husband tell you how beautiful you look today?" My jaw dropped and I hoped I didn't look as stupid as I felt. All I could say was, "Oh....oh....Thank you." Then she winked at me and said, "You'd better be careful...you know what happens when you lose like that, don'tcha?" I laughed..."Yes, you get pregnant! Ask me how I know!"

But to be on the safe side, I've warned dh not to get "that" twinkle in his eye again...
