Hi!
Lisa - You poor thing! Sounds like you had a wonderful support system. I fell down stairs (no alcohol involved, just clumsy
) and ended up having to have surgery too. Now I have 2 plates & 11 screws in my left ankle. I call it Frankenstein. I got thrown out of the hospital after only one day and we stayed w/DH's grandparents for a little while because we lived in a 2-story house. Two years later I'm still not comfortable with stairs so we sold our house & now live in a one story. Tiffani - Congrats on losing 50 lbs! ![]() Cute jokes ![]() I'm Dutch on my dad's side too! And I have cousins in SC.....hmmm. Oh wait, that's their mom's side. ![]() Bug - Hope you're feeling better. Your kitty sounds so sweet! Those nutter butters are gone, and next time you're tempted you'll remember they weren't worth it. It's over, so don't beat yourself up over it. WTG MissM!!!! Penny - Speedy recovery! hattia! I don't know of any way to this thread other than through the LCF main page. dream, kbetz! |

Penny: You poor darling! But you're smart to get this over and done with NOW...my mil has been thru that rigamarole before and I know it took her about 6 weeks to completely recover. Just think that every day that passes, though, your pain will be less and less...you poor baby!!!
Tiffanie: My gosh, congratulations on the 50 lbs. down! That's a major milestone for us, isn't it? KUTGW, and keep patting yourself on the back. Lisa: I didn't know you had been hurt last year... Dream: Hey, today I saw another drop on the scales - 2.6 lbs.! I can't get over it! And that was after a 2 hr. NEW workout last night...I really thought I'd see an exercise gain! I'm still trying to figure out that one! Basically, though, I really do think it's the shaking it up with the lc woes (currently, Protein Power) AND changing the exercise that does it. That's the main gist of what the Dr. Eades mentioned, and they also had a whole section on how constant walking and running can (I hate to say it this was) eventually mess us up. They also say don't worry about limiting FATS!!! At any rate: That's why changing the exercise routine, completely changing it, along with the lc woe, about every month, is so very important. A few of the low-carb doctor experts really promote "weight-lifting" (that could also be those conditioning exercises I do in the water)...they're not so hard on the body. But in all events, we should take a day of rest in-between exercise days.

Divine: So by not limiting fats, I don't have to feel guilty about having 1/2 and 1/2 with my oatmeal? Or scrambling my eggs in real butter? Or eating real salad dressing? Or eating cashews? Yippee.
Okay, all within respectable limitations though.![]() Truthfully, when I saw a loss two weeks ago, my exercise had almost come to a halt. My lunch hours have been taken up with other things and my visits to the gym had been nil. I did work out last night though and felt great afterward. I really need to move to feel better and sleep better. Perhaps on the exercise level, since I am still going to walk on Sat and Sun am's, I just need to do something else IN ADDITION to that on the weekends. I may give it a try. I didn't show a gain this morning, in fact a slight loss after working out last night.

That's the gist of it, hon, but it's not the whole tomato. As for the exercise - no, that's exactly against what the Drs. Eades advise. People tend to UP their exercise, especially walkers or runners, either by distance or speed. Not necessary - not even a good idea. CHANGE the exercise. And they's probably say forego the oatmeal but have the eggs in butter instead. (Or cut back on that oatmeal and make eggs the mainstay of your breakfast with a TINY bowl of oatmeal). WE all have our ultimate top carb levels; you may have already reaches yours for maintenance. And that's not what you want yet, right, babe?Upping the fats, keeping proteins "moderate," and carbs to 30 (total) or less is basically the Protein Power woe during the wt. loss phase. Later we can up the carbs, in a fashion similar to Dr. Atkins, to find our own own critical carbohydrate level. At your weight, around 190, they'd recommend at LEAST 35 protein grams PER meal, along with 10 "good" carbs per meal. (Their protein levels are the recommended minimum, but the carbs are about on target.) Fats...again, not to worry about them. Use your butter, your olive oil, your extra virgin coconut oil, the ghee. Stay away from the poly's - the "bad" fats. |

Divine: You are so right about the oatmeal. If I cut it out, my carbs are considerably lower. Oatmeal is 18 carbs per package. It's going to be difficult to get back down to 30 carbs a day. But I ate that way for soooo long, it might be the ticket. On the upshot, at the same time my exercise decreased, I had started back on the oatmeal. I had eaten eggs for breakfast until they were coming out my ears and I wasn't losing. I was looking for a lower fat alternative besides veggies. I conceded to the carbs and it threw my body a whoaa, what are you doing type reaction and I lost a couple lbs. So, who knows. I'm going to find the information on Protein Power and see what I come up with. Hey, if I don't have to up the exercise, I won't. In fact, since its so dark in the am, we are already moving the time up on Sat and Sun. Because I take my mom to church on Sundays, I won't be able to go around the trail 3 times. Thanks for all your wisdom. You are a fine example with your fabulous losses.

Dream: Since even we low-carbers have varying degrees of metabolic resistance, it could be that when you upped your carbs and you lost, that was another way YOU can shake it up to shake it down.
I'll bet now, if you lower your carbs and up your fats, eat 35 protein grams (minimum) per meal, along with changing your exercise, you have a very good chance to seeing a few more downward nudges on the scale!!! Just doing the same thing with the low-carb menu and exercise is not only boring for most people, but the metabolism gets quickly used to it, too. So it really is a two-fold benefit, one for the mind and one for the body! Btw, I wonder why Protein Power isn't as popular as South Beach...I still think it has to do with the latter's "yuppy" name. Really. ![]() |

Hey everyone!
I'm paying for my little pleasure yesterday of having nutter butters. I cheated and weighed this AM - I'm such a sucker for punishment. I'm still at 289. ![]() I'm okay. I will eat very clean today. Yesterday opened up a whole bunch of cravings. I also haven't walked but twice this week. It's the beginning of the month and my second job has been really late every night. I also have to work this weekend with my day job. - insert tired groan - I will get rest and I have to take care of ME first. It is frustrating and my will power is very low today with the question of "Can I do this? Can I loose this weight?" I'm having a moment ya'll. I'll be back in a bit...![]()

Good Morning everyone. How ya' doing? We had a real fun time last night at game night at our church. Everybody brings games that they want to play and then we jsut sit around and go from table to table playing what ever game we want. I played Taboo, Sequence, and Rook. And I ate too much cheese. I could feel my rings getting tight by the end of the night. Oh, speaking of my rings...I had to have my engagement ring stretched bigger twice and my wedding band once. Now they are so loose that when I dry my hands on a towel, they slide off. Except for when I eat lots of cheese! I can't wait til my fingers get small enough to wear my mom's class ring. It is so beautiful. I never saw such a beautiful. unique class ring. It's gold with mother of pearl and a delicate rectangle shape with her initials S.A.M. engraved on the band. I have also loved it so when she was dying, she gave it to me but I have never been able to wear it. It's a goal for me. I tried it on the other day and it will fit on my pinky, but too tight for comfort.
Well, today I actually have some baking to do. This lady asked me to make her a pound cake and pumpkin cheesecake for Pastor Appreciation Day. She paid me very well. I was trying to decide if I wanted to bake for the season and sell. I decided to just do it on demand and not advertise. Some day i might open up my own bakery and get back into doing cakes and wedding cakes, but for now, too stressful with four kids and home schooling. Besides, finding the right location is difficult. OK... I wonder how many people will read my little babbles up there. Maybe if your bored you will!! Hope everyone sees a whoosh today before weigh in tomorrow. |

BUG- I understand those feelings. And everytime I feel that way, you come on and encourage me. So to return the encouragement...BUG, you CAN do this. This is just a hump. Look how far you came. You are in the 2's and now in the 80's. That is incredible!! Don't beat yourself up. I think we all can empathize with you. It is a good thing we all do not have these struggles at the same time, or we would be doomed. But since we rotate our feelings of self-doubt with each other, we will support you today. OK, I believe yesterday that you said the nutter butters weren't even that tastey or something like that. So I guess you won't want any more. Drink extra water and eat LC snacks often to keep urges under control. You can get thru this day and then you will see a little drop tomorrow and in will make it easier. I bet the tired, no excuse me, the exhaustion of working the two jobs and the first of the month is a challenge with this woe. When I get tired, it seems I want some sugar. So maybe if you eat a few extra of the good carbs, your body will be able to use your reserve. I imagine it is tired and holding onto the stored for an emergency. Like having to run super fast because there is a spider on your desk. Something like that. But seriously Bug, you can do it and we are here for you. If you need to chat off and on all day, I will be around. I bring my computer out to the kitchenette that is attached to the island while I bake. You have helped me thru so many times, that I can't even count them. Please let me do the same.!!

Lisa- Like a herd of turtles, ey? That is hilarious.
Nice!! Doesn't if feel so good to get rid of those clothes? I told my DH that I can make some long sleeve shirts for our two year old out of my shirts that are too big!! I heard some where before that keeping the "big" clothes after losing weight makes it easier to gain it back. I guess the theory goes something like this...if you don't have the "big" clothes, then when you first start to feel your currunt clothes getting snug, you will do something about it. But if you keep the big clothes, then it isn't as big a deal if they get snug because you still ahve other clothes to wear. Makes some kind of sense. Unfortunately, I am still wearing most of my too big clothes as far a sshirts go because I don't want to get new ones til I hit size 20. I am a 22 now. If my cup size would go down, I mght be able to go a little smaller. Oh and my 22's shorts are now loose where I can almost pull them up and down without unbuttoning or unzipping them. I haven't done good with exercise this week only went to Curves once and no walking. But oh well. |

Thanks Tiffani
![]() I appreciate your encouragement. I'm human and like everyone else - I get drained at times and discouraged. It adds up and then WOW it hits. You all are so wonderful to be here for me today - it's just a weak day for me. I'm used to working long and hard and I'm like everyone - I want it off like yesterday I know it's not going to happen overnight. I went to the bathroom a while ago (it's a private bathroom at work) and looked in the mirror. I see the changes in my body and I *know* that I am so much more healthier than what I was 4 months ago. I basically feel really good about my body and the way I want it to look in the end. It's like you said - I'm tired. I haven't pushed the walking this week because I know I'm pushing my body. I'm taking tomorrow off and doing nothing but errands and household stuff - nothing big. Sunday I will come into the office for my day job and do some work. I have to do that this weekend and next. After that, it will calm down a bit and I am taking off from BOTH jobs the entire week at the end of the month. I'm living for that week! Of course, I have some things at home I want to try to get finished but at least I won't be under pressure per say of work! ![]() Again, thank you for listening to me ramble. I'll be back in later today. And Tiffani, yes I read all of your posts You have fun baking today! ya! |

Yea, it's Friday.
![]() Awwwww Bug: Please hang in there. Remember, you can always jump back in and start over. We are here for you. (what Tiffani said) At least you didn't show a gain. I bet it is hard to plan what to eat while working so many hours. Heck, I have trouble putting together lunch for myself every day to take to work. Just look at what you've accomplished so far. I have to keep telling myself that when I get down on myself about not losing anything. Wow, a week off. Good for you. We will help you count down the days. What day is your first day off? Enjoy every minute of it.![]() ![]() Tiffani: So do you bake professionally? What a great thing to do. It always looks like so much fun. I really miss baking. I totally skipped it last Christmas because I was on induction. My family missed it too. Oh well, that's probably the first holiday season I didn't gain anything. Your game night sounds like so much fun. Our church does that on New Year's Eve.Lisa: I'm afraid to part with my larger size clothes, but it would be great to give them to someone who could use them. My DH said the same thing. Hang on to them just in case. Jennifer: Yes, I like the fats too. I cut mine back considerably lately though, so it's time to up them again. Yeh! Divine: I hope to check into protein power this weekend. DD2 and I are going to spend some time together this weekend. We have this GIANT bookstore called Powells downtown. I think we are going to go there and perhaps I will spend some time in the nutrition section. Also, there's a whole foods market right next to it and I'm going to do some LC shopping. Oh, my group is having a field trip on Tuesday to another market with a nutritionist to scope out all the LC goodies that we might not otherwise be aware of. Yay! Penny: I hope you are doing well today. ![]() ![]() Hattia: We are a chatty bunch. So check in and let us know how you are doing. ![]() Kbetz: You too. I know you are busy with HS, but let us know what's up. Okay! ![]() I made crustless quiche last night. I chocked it full of veggies and mushrooms. I made DH and DS something else. Guess what they ate. Anyway, I managed to save one piece for my lunch today. ![]() |

Hi Ladies!
DivineM - You sure are a wealth if info; thanks for sharing with us. I agree that Protein Power kind of got lost in the shuffle. Atkins is the one that's been around forever & has the name recognition & South Beach has the trendy place connection and the product deal with Kraft. Also, it toes the politically correct lower-fat line.
Bug - I'm glad you're going to be able to take some time off. Keep the faith girlie. You can do this! Lisa - Congrats on smaller sizes! Sure wish I could take some of that fudge off your hands ![]() Tiffani - Bet your house smells good right now! I had my wedding band stretched & now it's getting big. I didn't have my engagement ring stretched in order to have something to shoot for & now it fits, but it's too tight if my finger swells even a little, so I can't wear it yet, but soon. Here's a funny ring story. I forgot to put my wedding band on one morning & in the elevator at work my friend asked me where it was. I told him I forgot to put it on, so I guess I'm not married today. A man in the elevator with us said,"I wish I had known that's all it took. I could have saved myself a lot of money". ![]() Dream - You'll have to let us know what the nutritionist says. I'm probably going to go to Whole Foods this weekend too. that place! Penny - How are you feeling today? If there's anything you need, let me know. hattia & kbetz |

Hi All,
I had a great day yesterday. So glad to know I have a support system here. I am trying to get organized with all of my food vs. what I feed my 2 little ones and husband. I am so busy with 2 kids under 3, but I need this to be a priority so I can be a better Mom & Wife. Happy to wake up and know I have others in my same situation that are on this journey with me. So thx! |

Bug- wow. That is awesome. I can't wait to be in an 18 again. That will be a milestone. I bet that really made you feel better and want to keep going!! Congrats!! Dream- I starting working in bakeries about 20 years ago. I picked up things here and there. Every now and then I go back to work and that is always what I do. I use to be Bakery/Deli Manager at a couple WalMart Supercenters. That was real fun. There is so much to merchandise and exploit!! I started baking cheesecakes, cakes, and other yummies for restaurants 13 years ago. Unfortunately we moved around too much to keep the same businesses. So about 4 years ago, I started baking for different people. Sometimes I will bring samples to different businesses like schools, factories, and big office buildings and leave a flyer. We just moved to South Carolina a year ago and to this new town in March. I went as far as making up an order sheet and brochure for this holiday season, but then decided not to. Just so busy and don't want to get overstressed right now. Trying to focus on family an |
