Bug- OK-the puke is not cute...the kitty is cute. how blasted adorable. Now that is a true friend in an animal. That story really made my day. So which med is it? if you don't mind me asking that is.That is really wild how something like that can effect you so horribly. Why is that?
I am starting to get use to the fact that this woe is going to be a life time of LC and change. Actually I think I just realized it even more by saying that. We (as a culture) are more over weight than ever from the new foods that our bodies crave. All the junk and carbs and sugar and such. Diabetes is so common, cancer, tiredness. And I do want to never go back to feeling that way or being that way ever. I think more of our nation needs to realize that too. Wow. i think I had a revelation. It is our woe as a nation, for the majority at least. Why do we do this to ourselves and our bodies? Ignorance? Addiction? Hmmm...food for thought!!

Hey Tiffani!
I have diabetes and take Byetta shots twice a day along with my oral meds. It's a wonderful drug that has really worked miracles with my blood sugars. The down side is that the shots do make you very sick at times. Certain foods trigger the sickness/nauseousness. Some days are better than others where you can't even tell you are taking anything because you feel great and then there are others that you are down right all day. I've been on it since June and hopefully, cross your fingers, the doctor said within a year if everything is good I could come off of everything.

The bad days are worth it knowing everything is going good.

Good evening everyone! How has your day went? Any funny stories to tell, like consoling cats or anything? Hope everyone was able to accomplish their goals for the day. Talk to you later.

Here's a joke I got in email today. I thought it was cute.

TODAY'S CLEAN LAUGH

*Geneology Question*

When my granddaughter, Ann, was 9-years-old, she was given an assignment by her teacher to write a story on "Where my family came from." The purpose was to understand your genealogy.

I was not aware of her assignment when she asked me at the dining room table one night, "Grandma, where did I come from?" I responded quite nervously because my son and daughter-in-law were out of town and I was stalling until they returned home, "Well, honey, the stork brought you."

"Where did Mom come from then?"
"The stork brought her, too."
"OK, then where did you come from?"
"The stork brought me too, dear."
"Okay, thanks, Grandma."

I did not think anything more about it until two days later when I was cleaning Ann's room and read the first sentence of her paper, "For three generations there have been no natural births in our family."

TODAY'S CLEAN LAUGH

*W-a-i-t-i-n-g*
The two ladies were sitting in the living room, waiting for their hostess, who was slightly delayed. The daughter of the family was with them, on the theory that she would keep the visitors occupied during the wait.

The child was about six years old, snub nosed, freckled, buck toothed and bespectacled. She maintained a deep silence and the two ladies peered doubtfully at her. Finally, one of them muttered to the other, "Not very p-r-e-t-t-y, I fear," carefully spelling the key word.

Whereupon the child piped up, "But awful s-m-a-r-t."

Bug- Good morning...when did you first develop diabetes? Was it just this past June? How exciting to know that you could come off the meds when everything is said and done. Does this mean you shouldn't be diabetic any more at that point?

Hi Ladies:

My weight was down a little this morning, 184.6, but I wont change the stats until it is down for a couple of days.

Tiffani: Congratulations, down another 3.2 and in the 50's. Yahoooo. Great job. Oh, to answer your question, I'm 5'8".

Hi Kbetz: How was your first couple of days schooling?

Bug: Hope your day is going well. I don't know anyone else who takes byetta. My mom and sister are full insulin dependent diabetics. Which is why I wanted to change my future. Hopefully I caught it in time. I was headed in the same direction.

I walked quite a bit at lunch yesterday running office errands. So I didn't make it to the gym last night. I hope I can bring myself to go tonight. I took the stairs 15 times this morning in hopes to jump start my metabolism for the day. My DH said he has noticed my lack of energy lately. He's right. I fall asleep at around 7:30 or 8:00 ish unless I go work out. So I guess I better get back to the gym.

Hi Divine, Lisa and Jennifer. I hope all is well.

Dream- yeah, thanks. I lost 50 pounds so far and am in the 40's. I am 5'8" too. But my goal is only 170. You are so close to my goal. I bet you look like a mama hottie!! How exciting for you. It has been over 14 years since I was that small. I may consider going lower than 170, but it is in the higher ideal weight for our height and a large frame. yahoo for you!! Keep it up. It is fun and encouraging to watch people complete their goals.

Oops, Tiffani, did I say 50's? I rearead. DOH! You said 50 lb mark, that's where I got the 50's from. My bad.

Yah, I have a niece who is 5'9". She weighs 131 or so her mom says. She looks great at that weight. I'm sure that's unrealistic for me, so I will probably settle for 160's or 150's. Like you, I haven't weighed that since high school. I weigh about what I did when I got married though. I guess I should try on my wedding dress to see if it fits. Actually I think it would. The cool think is if I look to the 170's I am close. It doesn't seem so far away. I remember when I first started. No way did I think I could lose this much. It's been almost a year now. I never thought I could stick to it this long. Some of the girls in my reasearch group have fallen off their diet. I'm out to prove it can be done. With you guys to help, we can all do this!

Morning ya'll!

I was first diagosed with diabetes in April 2004. It's been a long road with fighting with *trying* to lose weight, different medications and finally getting approved to see a specialist in the field - insurance companies can be so frustrating!

I finally got to see a specialist in June of this year. The first thing he said was my current medicines that I was on for my diabetes weren't even theraputic. The second thing he said was the weight *had* to come off and the reason why it wasn't was because of some of the meds that my doctor had me on at the time was making me gain/hold on to my weight. Who would have thought that?! He immediately changed my meds and we talked about Byetta - all of the pros/cons. That night, I started 2 shots a day and that began the second battle with my insurance company to fight for approval to pay for the Byetta. My doctor is wonderful! Until approval from the insurance company, he spotted my Byetta every month.

Shots are hard - I had never done it before. I take my blood sugars 6 times a day and trust me those hurt worse than the shots now.

I will always be a diabetic. I will always have to be cautious and watch what I eat. But, if the weight can get under control and if my A1C can get under control, then we may be able to come off the meds and control it by diet alone. That is the goal!

Dream- how old is your niece? When I was in high school I weighed 137 at 5'8" (actually believe it or not, I was an inch taller back then so call it 5'9"). Now, as a WOMAN instead of GIRL, I have curves and such. After having kids, it seems I can look thinner but weigh more. A women's body gets more proportioned and such . So we should be able to look better at a higher weight. Maybe not as good at 170, but at least at 150-160 give or take. I think once i hit 170, i will probably want to lose more. Also, with exercising more, we will have leaner bodies and weigh more but look like we weigh less. I like that!!

Bug- oh, now I understand. I have PCOS and one DR. said it is caused from insullin resistence. So I was taking metformin. I am pretty sure I can get it under control with diet too. My mom had 9 brothers and sisters and all of them except her were diabetic and her father. My mom was the only one who wasn't diabetic but she also was the only one who got cancer. She died of lung cancer 2 years ago at the age of 61. So I really have to watch myself with the diabetes issue. And having insullin resistence is just the beginning of it, so...now I know that I can change my lifestyle and woe and hopefully stay away from it both of them.

Also, I have a friend who just started LC. She is in her 50's and has fibromyalgia and arthritis. She only lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks. But she is on meds. Can some meds cause her to not lose weight while LC? I told her to call her pharmacy and ask them about carbs in her meds.

YES! I was on two types of medicines that there was NO WAY that I could lose weight while on them. After I came off, the weight has started coming off!

Bug- was it because of carbs in them or anti-inflamatory or what? My friend is getting so frustrated. I don't want her to give up, but she isn't quite grasping that her meds could be the problem. She is probably on about 6 different kinds.

Tiffani,

You can always google the meds on the internet or look them up under web md. When I did that with the ones that I was on, I could see some of the side effects which were with weight. It's worth a start there. If not, at her next doctor's visit she can review them with her doctor and explain her problems with losing weight. My doctor immediately saw the problem.

Divine-
hello Lady. How are you? How is swimming going? Are you still able to find the time? How is HS going? How is your mom? You are doing awesome at this LC woe and are so helpful to us all. You are definately the wise one about this woe. THanks for keeping us all informed and encouraged. Are the leaves changing yet? We still have flowering trees and bushes here (Crepe Myrtles) . They bloom for like 3 or so months. They don't grow well up there though!! But I miss the smell of autumn. And I will definately miss the snow. Although it seems we didn't get as much snow up there as we did when we were kids. We use to live in West Olive. Just several miles of Lake Michigan and I remember how much snow we use to get. That was awesome. Snowed in for a week and out of school for two weeks. Making tunnels and forts. Riding our horses in the fields to make pictures. Oh those were the cold days.
Tiffany: Well, I have not been swimming since last Wednesday, but I did get a killer workout last Thursday or so. The next day I gained, and the day after, and the day after. It was the worst TOM gain I've had since I started lowcarbing again in May.

Yesterday, I dropped 6.8 lbs. overnight and then another 3 lbs. today. So FINALLY, I hit the 75 goal marker plus one more lb. for good luck! And today, Oct. 3, marks the beginning of my 6th month. Tomorrow, Thursday (my start date) will mark the beginning of Week 23.

Anyway, this old lady is now 239.0...I have not seen that wt. in at least 20 years or so, when I had one of my babies (2nd or 3rd, I think).

I don't think I'm so wise, sweetie...I just READ a lot and try to incorporate some ideas from low-carb doctors (they often disagree!), nutritiionists, and even body-builders. How I WISH I had known this stuff when I was a young mom...all the wasted years of being sick!

But then, all in God's good time. HE knew this would happen. I'm just glad I found a way to reclaim my health.

Homeschooling is going way too slowly for my taste...but it's hard getting everybody to follow the home schedule I'd like to see. I'm not talking just the kids...my mom stays up late, watches tv, etc. which means she gets up late. My time is constantly interrupted; swim time is at lunch-time, and that makes it hard, too, to keep up with everything...and then there are meals and housework. You know the drill!

Anyway, I've done this homeschooling long enough so as to know not to panic. It will all fall into place. I'm considered a pretty strict homeschooler, so this "off schedule" stuff tends to incline me toward panic mode. But I refuse to panic. As I said, it will work out in the end.

Today is a beautiful day in my part of Michigan. The sun is shining brightly and yes, the leaves are going into full swing with their beautiful color changes.

I'm leaving soon to join the dh, who is getting off work a bit early and plans to work out at the community center. So I'm off...will check in all of you soon.

Before I go:

Lisa: Congratulations on earning that $1200...all that hard work was worth it!

Kbetz: If you will forgive me, since I'm in a hurry: In a word, YOU and your dh are the parents. God put YOU in charge of the children He gave you...not the children. They can't make decisions for their own good; that's why they have parents. It is OUR duty to educate our children, and if we can do that via homeschooling, so much the better. Once you fully grasp that fundamental truth that you, as parent, make the really important decisions for your children, your doubts will start to ebb...A six year old simply cannot see the truth entire.

No, not every day will be perfect, just as it isn't always perfect when babies are little or when the children become teens. Life never IS perfect. But homeschooling is a way of life...Mom and Dad are the captains of the ship, and it is the captains who make the decisions.

Dream: I'll get that info to you very, very soon! Please forgive me for taking so long!

Bug, Jennifer, Jennay: Be good, be healthy!

Strange timing for your posts on broken bones. I had surgery on both knees yesterday. I can hobble around on the crutches, but I can't bend my knees at all, so I can't get up and down off the couch, so I'm having to stay on the bed because it's higher. And getting down and back up from the toilet is PAINFUL. I didn't want to have them both done at once, but I didn't have a choice. The doctor said we could do one now and one at Christmastime, but working temp jobs, I never can tell what the future will hold. I need to get well quickly where I can go back to work.

Right now I know the true meaning of a laptop! There is no way I could get to a desk

I've had to eat whatever my boyfriend brings me, and be thankful, so I'm probably up. I guess I can get back on plan when I can cook for myself.

Hope everyone is well.

Divine- thanks for the words of wisdom.

Things are going up and down. I had hope it would have gone smoother these past few days, but it really hasnt been that bad as far as the kids go. It has been alot of technical issues and one with the principal that nearly sent me off the deep end today. I am back in the wadeing pool tonight.
My WOE is staying undercontrol, actually I dont have time to eat as often as like I should.

I know that all of you understand my missing action mode lately, but you are all in my thoughts. I just need to get my family straight rite now.

Penny and Bug get well soon!.

Penny- um...ouch. I can't imagine having surgery on both knees at the same time. How...painful. How long will it take for recovery? And then do you have to go back to PT? What exactly did they do to your knees? Hang in there girl. Everything will work out for the good. God Bless You!! Tiffani
