10% Challenge ~ October
This thread is a meeting place for the 10% Challenge participants. We are a group who is working to learn about health while breaking our weight loss goals into smaller, more manageable steps.
To keep motivated, we have agreed to participate in a friendly competition. We earn points based on the progress toward our weight loss goals. We can earn additional points by completing the mini-challenges that encourage healthy behaviors that support these goals. We provide positive support for our members and recognition of the small achievements that tend to get overlooked. Although we are no longer seeking additional membership to this challenge, please feel free to read the information we post as well as follow our progress! |

Mini-Challenge October 1-15
This idea was inspired by Joyful48. The idea is a race - think marathon. The idea is to complete the most miles possible, and report your results as they are completed. Bragging rights for the remainder of this competition hang in the balance! This is what you do. You get out and either walk, jog, or run a distance in miles. Those miles may be done outside or on a treadmill / elliptical machine. As you complete your miles, you create a new post with your new total. That way, each of us can figure out how much distance has been covered and who is in the lead. Please put your new total in bold so it's easy to read. You can log on as many times as you want to update your mileage, and the last day you count it is on the 15th. Make sure your mileage is in addtion to the regular walking you do - don't clip on a pedometer and use the walking during a normal day toward this total. Example: Day 1: I walked 2 miles. TOTAL MILES: 2 New post on Day 2: I walked 3.5 miles more. TOTAL MILES: 5.5 New post on Day3: I walked 1 mile more. TOTAL MILES: 6.5 HAVE FUN! |

10/5 TOTAL MILES: 6
I am totally shocked that I actually got out there and did something. It was very pleasant, took me about 30-35 minutes, and I enjoyed seeing my neighbors. I do it 2 miles at a time and I don't necessarily move very fast, but I'm making progress! |

In looking at the amount of participation with this particular challenge, the very little conversation, little participation in the challenges, dwindling numbers of people willing to participate ... I give. I tried my best and it didn't seem to work.
My goal was to provide a positive environment with support for myself and a few volunteers as they worked to improve their health and lose weight. I wanted a challenge that would be supportive through the holidays. We had it for a while and I hope each of you was able to gain something positive and help yourself because of the participation here. I will continue with my struggle but I will no longer lead this challenge. I hope to see many of you online and don't hesitate to chat or send me an update of your progress. Thank you - all of you - for your participation to date. Don't give up. I have every confidence each of you can make it happen. |
