Hey ladies, sorry its been a few days without posting. I had a kinda hard week. A good friend of mine passed away suddenly in Oklahoma this week. I've known her since I was 4 and grew up with her. She had epilepsy but hadn't had seizures for years. Apparently she had a seizure while taking a bath this week.....and passed away. My eating hasnt been that great this week...but Im working my way back to it....I just wanted to check in.

I'll be available to chat online tomorrow night if either of you are around? Ill just plan on leaving my IM up and watching for you.

Well my week wasn't all that stellar either so I am going to be getting more into the green veggies instead , of the squash and leaner cuts of meat and a little less fruitn see if I can get into onederland by the end of this month , that would be so awesome!!!

Here is an article I thought should be shared. I sent it to each of the team leaders, and I'm posting it here for each of you (until Joyful tells me she's ready to resume team leadership). Let me know what you think.

*************

Think Two Steps Ahead-Find the BIG Picture
By Joe Downie, Certified Physical Fitness Instructor

The house is a mess, the kids need a ride somewhere, you haven’t sat down in hours, and you have 10 minutes to eat something.

It’s 1 p.m., you’ve been working non-stop to finish a project because your boss is breathing down your neck, and it’s time for a quick, 20-minute lunch before getting back to the grind.

We often face situations similar to these two. Normally, we choose to think one step ahead. “I am tired, hungry and stressed out. I need to eat something quick. I don’t care what it is!” Unfortunately, those decisions come back to haunt us in the future, only adding to the stress already in our lives.

After a long day with the kids, doing laundry, reading books, and working on night school homework, you might have to decide between exercise and a couch that is screaming your name. Another difficult decision we face on a regular basis, and once again we often choose to think one step ahead. “I need to rest – I’m so drained!”

The difference between one step ahead and two steps ahead can mean the difference between staying on the fitness roller coaster or achieving your goals. Two steps ahead, we are still tired, stressed and cranky, BUT also determined, committed and able to see the big picture.

What is the BIG PICTURE? It’s different for everyone. Having a few thoughts that motivate and inspire you will help fight through step one and see that vision. Here are a few:
· “My self-confidence is going to be so much higher because I’ve struggled through a difficult situation and found a way to conquer it!”
· “I’ve had to find a way to deal with things during a very stressful time in my life. I can’t wait to see what I can do without all the stress!”
· “I’m going to be able to keep up with my kids and be a part of their lives for a long time!”
· “Why shouldn’t my health be the most important thing in my life – it doesn’t make me selfish, just smart!”
· “If there is one thing I have complete control over, it’s my health. I am going to do whatever it takes to figure out a way because I have pride in who I am!”
"Step Two" reminds us how important consistency is in reaching our goals and helps us envision that beautiful feeling you get when you work hard to achieve something.

Start practicing now.

Step One - “Oh, what a great idea. I should try that sometime, but I really have to go clean my oven.”

Step Two – “What a great idea. I’m going to come up with three things that will motivate and inspire me each time I have to choose between a healthy and unhealthy decision, and I’m going to write them down so I see them on a regular basis! Now, I’m going to go clean my oven!”

okay, so I have been TOTALLY sucking at posting!!!!!!! AND.....at eating

My friends death kinda knocked me off track.......and then school started back last Wednesday and I've had FOUR exams already!!

BUT....I realized something today.....I realized that I've been ignoring/making excuses for my weight my entire life. I always blame stress and situations in my life.......but the truth is......skinny people have stress too. I was in line behind a really sweet, super fit girl today at my clinicals (I was getting a cookie ) and I looked at what she had......and she had a bottle of water and some peanuts. I guess I tend to think "If I was skinny Id eat whatever I wanted....instead of thinking......"People are fit because hey eat healthy and so they continue eating healthy to stay that way."

Anyway.....I'm back and I'm motivated. AND I REALLY, REALLY WANT to DO it! Life is crazy with exams and clinicals, and my new house, and work.......but, if I can do it now....then Ill be able to keep up my new lifestyle forever!

Ive realized that one stumbling block are my roommates. They are really sweet and well-meaning. They cook noodles, and all kinds of pasta ALL the time......and when I get home I'm always tired, hungry, and dont feel like cooking so I eat it BUT, as soon as I post this I am typing up a list of things I WILL/CAN eat and posting it on the fridge. I know that they try to make things I can eat.....they just get confused....and I know that if I post it there...theyll do their best to help me out.

Anyways...I'm back....and my goal is to get off this weight before graduation in MAY!!!!!!! I work in healthcare so it's time that I demonstrate the things that I teach to people. I want to be a good example of a healthy person.

Thanks for hanging with my guys.

BTW, my screenname is Shellhaley76...in case you don't have it.

PS- next week is the first MAJOR exam (worth 15% of my grade) so this weekend Ill be studying and I tend to eat 'whatever' when studying so this will be a good time for me to really push my resolve.

Also.......I'm afraid to weigh....I know I've gained

Hey There,

I respect your honesty. Weight loss is a struggle ... mine is too. I haven't always made the best choices this month either. I haven't been on the scale yet, but either I didn't lose much or stayed the same. Losing someone close to you can sometimes make you want to seek a familiar comfort. Unfortunately, it's likely that we look for that comfort in unhealthy food or too big a portion size.

Being tired is my struggle too. In addition to teaching full time, I will be taking 6 credits of classes this semester. Although I live alone, my evening meal is also my hardest. I don't have your roomate issue (kind but clueless), but I do struggle with the issue of not "picking up something" on the way home.

In the past, I've found that having something already prepared to take the edge off when I get home is a tremendous help. A nice chicken veggie soup or egg drop soup, boiled eggs, buffalo wings, crustless quiche ... you get the idea. I come home - have a quick snack, and relax. I get out of the kitchen and do something else. I am not ravenous, make a minute for myself to unwind, so making a dinner later (and more sensibly) isn't a big issue. If I know in advance that there's something quick in the fridge it's easier to drive straight home without stopping.

I understand what you mean about thinner people. The ones I know eat good food and make room in their schedule for exercise. It's a priority and it's non-negotiable. They get up early to run, go work after work but before they go home, take a walk during their break instead of sitting, drinking water instead of soda, etc. It's a lifestyle, not just good luck or amazing genes.

I tend to overwhelm myself by trying to do everthing at once. If I don't exercise AND drink water AND eat on plan AND get to bed early AND take my vitamin AND cook dinner instead of eat out AND .... I feel guilty about letting myself get in this condition in the first place. I focus on what I didn't do instead of what I remembered to do right. I can't tell you how many times this negative spiral has gotten me off the wagon.

I'm trying to be gentler with myself so I can stay focused. You can do it too. Get on the plan today because you are worthy of good health. You deserve it.

Muse
