Mini-Challenge for August 1-15

Write down / journal everything you consume for at least 5 CONSECUTIVE days.

This shall include: meals, snacks, taste tests, chewing gum, breath mints, and beverages (including water). We've been working to drink more water - please don't let that slide!

You may choose any 5 consecutive days within the time frame. You may journal any way you wish, but to get credit for the task you must post your menu either on your team thread or on this main thread. Use as much detail as you think reasonable. You may post your menu daily or you may post once with all 5 days listed but you won't get credit until all 5 CONSECUTIVE days have been done.

Plese use what you learn as a talking point with your team members. Please look at the menus of those people who seem to be losing consistently.

Possible topic ideas:
Who seems to be consistently losing?
What are they doing?
Do you notice any patterns in your own eating?
Are your portion sizes as they should be?
Did you tweak something and notice a difference in your weight loss efforts (change salad dressing, eliminate a specific food, eliminate soda, etc.)?
Did keeping a journal change anything about your food choices?

We're ahead of the game since we've already been posting our menus
This is a very timely challenge for me because I notice that when I don't eat enough during the day, I'm starving at night, so I'm going to try to eat 3 meals each day. Keeping a closer eye on things will hopefully make me more aware.

Yesterday:
B - coffee, s/f chocolate coconut candy
L - green pepper slices
D - Linda Sue's Portobello Parmesan
S - cashews

You two rock!!!

Go Jen!!! Woot! (happy dance)

Okay Something is wrong. I can no longer post smilies? Guess I'll take my queries to the help desk.

Jennifer, you are awesome! 10.5lbs. (Clap, clap!)

All three of us did good! Yay us.

So yesterday our 10 hour trip turned into 16 hours. On the highway our alternator belt broke off. Through awesome people, my DF EXW came and got me, drove me to the nearest town to buy one. And to boot we had no tools. This man came and assisted us and fixed the problem for us in 5 minutes flat. His name was Bill. I love him. We offered to compensate his genouristy but he declined. So this process set us back majorally. But we made it!

O MI GAWD that portabella looks divine! Was is it as tasty as it looks? That is one dish I am going to try.
Jennifer, thank you for being the team leader. It is much appreciated.

I will be back later. I am so thrilled for us. I am in great company with you two. You are both awesome! (heart)

Go Jennifer, it's
Go Linda, it's ,
Go Jen, it's

We ROCK!!!
38.9 Pounds!!!

Good thing I'm alone, I'm doing the happy dance all over the house.

Remember I was on the first two weeks of induction and alot of that was probably water weight. I have a goal of 10 lbs this month.

Ok, Ok I'll settle down.

C25K - W4D1 is done. I did distance and it took me about 30 minutes. I had a little trouble on the last 0.5 mile run but it was my own fault. I started off to fast on the previous runs.

So I guess I'm going to have to go five days without having Carb Smart Ice Cream for dinner. I'd hate to be a bad influence on anyone.

Linda, Sorry you had car trouble. But I'm really glad you met nice people to help. These days with the media bombarding us with all the bad stuff, it's good to really get a boost of humanity in lending a hand to one another. Hope you DF son is having a good time.

Menu (8/1/07)
B - Scambled egg, sausage, cheese, and onions
L - Chicken Fajita Taco Salad with guacamole but no sour cream
S - pecans (about 20)
D - Protein Shake (protein powder, chocolate Calorie Countdown milk)

ETA - Water (64 ozs)

Ok...One more time:

Go Jennifer, it's
Go Linda, it's ,
Go Jen, it's

Good Morning!

We're in Baton Rouge, getting ready for the service. The circumstances aside, it's nice seeing friends I haven't seen too often since college when we all went our separate ways, scattered around the US.

So far so good on the eating. I didn't eat anything at my friend's sister's house last night & we all stopped at Waffle House on the way back to the hotel & I got a ham & cheese omelette. But boy did my friend's son's chocolate chip waffles smell good! I had 2 hb eggs from the continental breakfast this AM, & we're all going out to lunch after the service. It's going to be reception-style so I'll do the best I can. Then we're heading to New Orleans. I have a craving for voodoo rolls (crawfish au gratin egg rolls) at NO Food & Spirits, so I'm I can resist. My mantra these days is "it'll be there when I'm at goal".

Jennifer, I am sorry about the circumstances as to why you are in Baton Rouge but I am happy for you getting to reconnect with old friends. Thanks for checking in. You are fabulous! I hope you can resist the voodoo rolls. I will admit that I have no idea what they are, even with the explanation. I'm going to google it after. I think it's important to know what all the different food is. Just in case I want it. lol Oh man I love waffles. Especially with tonnes of sugary fruit and a pile high of whipped cream. Way to go on the omelette. How is husband doing on lowcarb? I have now completly banned sugar from my house. Even though my evil DF doesn't need to lose weight I want him to be healthy.

Jen, has the roommate situation cleared up yet? I hope it was resolved. Living with others is always hard. The only one I never have fought with are my pets. But like I said I have never had a roommate but have always romanticized about it. You know like in the movies. You hit a rought patch with your BF and your roommate whips out icecream and popcorn and a bottle of cheap wine and you talk all night? Sounds like fun.

So today I m going to be obnoxious about journalling. I'm going to measure everything I put into my big mouth. Should be interesting. I have a feeling I am consuming to much coffee cream. I haven't used Fitday at all this go-around so I am curious to see the nutritional value of my intake.

Do either of you chew sugarless gum? I don't but I'm thinking others might appreciate it if I do.

Hey Ladies!

Jennifer - Glad you made it to Baton Rouge safely. Did any of the bridges you had to go over scare you any.

Quote:
My mantra these days is "it'll be there when I'm at goal".
I've been using this alot lately. It's gotten me over some major humps.

Linda - Good job on kicking all the sugar out of your house. How did you do that with a child in the house. My roomate has a 6 year old that she only has everyother weekend and on Thursday and our house is so full of junk. Thinks for asking about the roomate situation. My blood pressure is sky high right now but I'm trying not to over react before I get to talk to her alone (without her BF or DD present).

Menu (8/2/07)
Left off that I drank 64 oz of water (4 water bottles full)

Menu (8/3/07)
B - 2 Slices of Bacon
L - Chicken Fajita meat with low carb Mission tortilla, cream cheese and salsa
and Salad.
S - Atkins Bar
D - 2 halves devilled eggs. (not really hungry after workout)
Water - (I've been bad today - only 3 water bottles. Hoping to get another down before bed.

C25K - W4D2 Done
I think I'm going to have to repeat week 4. I'm just not feeling it yet. I did tonight on time.

I only chew gum occassionly. I can't stand it after the sugar is gone. So I can go threw a pack pretty quick. I do hate the Keto breath.

Hi!

We're in New Orleans now. My mom wasn't feeling well today because she had her bone drip yesterday, but she was in good spirits when I saw her this afternoon.

I did not make very good food choices today. The luncheon buffet was seafood, and in La that means fried. I did eat some celery sticks & pepper strips off the veggie tray as well as some cheese and fruit, but I also ate a few fried crawfish, some jambalaya, 1.5 hush puppies, a bite of carrot cake & some champagne. Then we went to a gelato shop that my brother & sister own a part of & one of the partners gave us a sample of each flavor! If that wasn't enough I had hummus (w/pita) for dinner. I feel right now. Tommorrow I really will make better choices.

Here is a recipe for crawfish au gratin (warning: may cause cravings). Imagine that in an egg roll wrapper and fried, and that's a voodoo roll.

Linda - I love fitday! I measure/weigh everything, but I tend to be obsessive compulsive about things like that. DH is not doing well on l/c. He loves high-carb & high-fat - a deadly combination. I'm trying not to nag, but I worry about him. Hope you're having fun hanging out with DF & his DS. I chew sugarless gum sometimes.

Jen - Hope your talk with your roommie goes well. I did feel a little apprehensive going over the Mississippi River bridge heading into Baton Rouge. Tommorrow we're going to visit my in-laws and have to cross the Miss again, but I figure if those bridges withstood Katrina, they must be OK.

My water has been very lacking the past few days, but that's normal for when I'm on the road. I'll pick it back up Monday.

TTYL!

Well Jennifer, that Voodoo roll sounds divine! I'm glad that I have no way of getting one here or you would be hearing about how I cheated.
I'm sorry about your mom. She sounds like such a sweet, lovely lady.
Another food I am not familiar with. Hush Puppies? Back to google I go. At the gelato shop, how many flavours are we talking about? There is a gelato shop not far from me and they have 218 flavours. Wasabi is actually one of my faves. I know it sounds weird but it has such a "bite" to it, yum! La Casa Gelato :: Everyone's Favorite Place for Gelato!
Why not consider what you ate a refeed? It may just spur faster weightloss. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

As for your husband I guess the best you can do is lead by example. Hopefully one day his "light bulb" moment happens. Or you could just kick his bum! j/k

Jen, don't worry about repeating the week. Your pic reminds me of a childhood actress but for the life of me I can't recall her name. Do people ever say, You look like....?
I hope your talk goes smoothly with your roommate. How old is her child?

How far is Houston from New Orleans?

My eating yesterday was dismal.
B~ Coffee with 1tsp of light cream
L, S~ one can of smoked light tuna slices, 3tbsp of mayo and 1 cup baby green lettuce
S~ 1 snowcone with 1 tbsp of Davinci Syrup

Calories 444
Fat 39 grams
Carbs 3
Protein 22 grams
So 78% fat, 3% carbs and 20% protein.

Not good at all. I just had no appetite yesterday. I will be eating WAY more today. I would like to consume about 3X more.

Have a great day!

Hi!

Much better day food-wise. Chicken caesar salad for lunch and steak, chicken & salad for dinner. We won't talk about the slice of chocolate chip cheesecake I had for dessert. I told my mom to buy cake I don't like next time. Wait, what cake don't I like? On the plus side, my MIL & brother both noticed I lost weight

Here is a hush puppy recipe. They're fried up in little balls, and the story is that they were thrown to the dogs to hush them when dinner was being cooked and they were begging for food. They're usually eaten with butter spread on them, and they are divine!

I think there are 10 or so gelato flavors at the shop. Not very many, but they're all made in house by only one guy. I told my sister about the wasabi & she said they're going to be experimenting with different flavors like that. My favorite by far is wedding cake. The chocolate is sugar & fat free, so that needs to become my favorite quick! I looked at that wesite, and now I want a gelato cake!

Houston is about 365 miles (257.3 km) from NO. It's I-10 almost the whole way, so usually a pretty easy drive, unless there's a lot of construction going on. Which there usually is.

I'm trying to lead by example for DH, but he didn't have a problem scarfing down a shrimp po-boy while I ate a salad. <sigh> I know how much I hate being nagged about my weight, so I'm trying to be sensitive, but it's worrying me. It's all I can do not to play the manipulative "if you loved me" card.

Thank you Linda Now eat up!

I'll post tomorrow after we get home sweet home!

Jennifer, awesome job on your eating yesterday! We will just forget about the cheesecake. My goodness you two know how to eat. The food sounds scrumptious. If I lived in NO I would be doomed. I love seafood and it sounds like the resturaunts are quite ingeniuos with their recipes. Hush Puppies are kinda like corn fritters. And I love me some corn fritters. Hell I love anything food wise. The only two foods that I despise are jello and hotdogs. Anything else and I mean everything I have ever tried I love. As a child my favourite meal was liver and spinach and salad with blue cheese dressing. Not a typical childs meal. Suprisingly I wasn't overweight until my 20's. I am more of a savoury food lover as opposed to sweet.

As for the hubby situation, sigh, I really do feel for you! My DF does not have the healthiest lifestyle so what I am going to do is work on me and when I am at a healthy weight I plan on really working on him. For now sugar is out of the house. But still once a while he will get McDs but I am hoping we can cut that out among other negative choices. The one trump card I have with him is that he has a child and I will casually mention that when faced wth choices. (Kinda passive aggressive I know, not cool) I'm sorry if I am not making sense but I feel your frustration as I know you want only the best for him.

Hope you have a safe trip home.

Okay, well I need a butt kicking! Food again was lacking.

B~Coffee, with tsp 18% cream
L~ Nil!
S~1 can of tuna mixed with one egg, and 1tsp of liquid smoke and fried in .5 tbsp of butter, 1.5C of shredded cabbage mixed with 2.5 tbsp of mayo and 1tsp Splenda and 1tsp of sesame oil.
S~Snow cone with 1 tbsp of DS

Per Fitday
Cals:733
Fat:56g
Carbs:7g
protein:51
69% Fat, 3% carbs, 28% protein

As I am doing strict Atkins 72 my appetite is really lacking. This is pathetic. I really need to eat more but it is hard when I am truly not hungry. When I do eat though I try to add lots of fat.

I do not want to feel deprived and binge. Has happened before and I do not want a repeat. I think I will go buy some macadamia nuts.

Have a great day!

Good Morning!

Home safe & sound and 2.5 lbs heavier. I'm sure it's mostly water, so hopefully it will be gone soon, especially since I didn't eat that badly.

Linda, Girl you need to eat! You'll lose faster & keep it off better, IME. Do you like protein shakes? Maybe have one in the AM w/your coffee if you don't feel like eating, and adding some cream to your snowball could help too. And maybe a bigger salad with more dressing, or some other veg cooked in oil or topped with butter or cheese. Check out the recipe room & Linda Sue's website for ideas to whet your appetite.

How're you doing Jen?

Hey Ladies,

Sorry to be MIA. Was just so busy all weekend and had to work late tonight.

Snack: Pecans (about 25)
Dinner: Protein Shake (Protein Powder, Calorie Countdown Milk, w/ scoop of Carb Smart Chocolate Ice Cream. Wasn't really hungry but thought skipping dinner two nights in row wouldn't be good.

Lunch: 1/4 Rotesiere Chicken, small caesar salad.
Snack: Mixed Nuts

Linda: I second Jennifer in saying you need to eat girl. But looks like you made great strides with Breakfast. Ok I know there is a time difference between us. Is it two hours? We are in the Central Time Zone.

Well, guess I need to hit the hay. It starts all over again tomorrow.

Jen

Ok. Guys just looking over my menus. I've just become lazy and I'm not cooking. So tomorrow, after I do my workout, I'm going to cook. I'm going to make enough for left overs Wednesday.

Hi!

I didn't do couch to 5k this AM for a very girlie reason - I'm having a good hair day, & if I walked I would've had to wash it, & bye-bye good hair day.

Down 1.5 of the 2.5 lbs I gained in La

Yesterday:
B - coffee, s/f chocolate coconut candy (really need to break this habit)
L - ham & cheese roll-ups w/mayo & mustard
S - green pepper strips w/blue cheese dressing, square of 85% choc
D - pork chop, salad, square of 85% choc

Scott left for Kansas yesterday afternoon till Wednesday. He goes to Denver early next month, & we're going to see if we can swing me going with him. It would be so nice to get away from this blasted heat & humidity.
