Hey girls! I hope you all are doing well!
I posted a thread with more pictures to show the transformation over time. It'll hopefully be a motivational reminder to me and maybe some of you too. The link is in my signature. My plan is going well. I didn't lose at my 2 week weigh in, and infact the scale was up 1 pound. I feel bloated so I'm thinking I'm retaining water. I know it'll come off because I did lose 2 inches around my tummy this week!! I WILL get into ONEderland!Moni, I'm glad you are having success sticking to your new plan. I hope it works for you! Joyce, I hope you're doing okay! Maybe you're catching up on your sleep and concentrating on you. We're here when you need us!! Erin, how are you doing with Atkins? Can't wait to see the kids' halloween costumes!! Are you giving out candy for halloween? I wouldn't want the extras lying around. You're right sugar is pure evil. LOLCindy, glad to hear you're doing well!! Angelique, come out come out wherever you are!!! Jennifer, hope you had fun at the beach!! How is your mom doing?Lori, not sure when you're coming back from NY. Hope you're having fun, miss you!

I've been up and down, emotionally. I've scoured all the local papers on and offline, Monster.com, Hotjobs.com, etc. I don't have a degree and I don't speak Spanish and I don't seem to qualify for any damn job that would pay me what I need to be making. I run a business, I speak well, I'm great with people... there should be some sort of management position out there for me but WHAT, when they all want you to have a stupid degree!
We won't even talk about my eating.

We had fun at the beach yesterday; the weather was great! TOM is kicking my butt today.
I haven't eaten yet, but all I want is mac and cheese. Sometimes being a woman can really suck.We used to draw names amongst my siblings for Christmas, but now since we're all married / have SO's we buy couple's gifts for everyone. Nothing big -usually $25-$30. Candles, restaurant g.c.'s etc. We are more extravagant for birthdays since my mom always made a big deal about it being "our" day. I'm probably the only adult who thinks a fuss should be made for her for her b-day. Scott has 2 sets of half-siblings, all much younger than he is, so we usually buy them g.c.'s to whatever the store of the moment is. Cousins and aunts and uncles just get cards, and I usually give the grandparents a really pretty calendar with family birthdays, anniversaries, etc printed on it. Heather -WTG losing 2"!!!! Sorry the scale is not cooperating, but with your dedication and great attitude you will reach your goals in no time. Her hair has been falling out and she said it was looking scraggly so my brother buzzed it for her, and now she has a crew cut. Erin -I bet DH would be jealous of that Darth Vader costume. Can't wait to see pics. Cindy -DH got a job in San Francisco but hated it so came back here, and is now working as a project manager for a valve distribution company. He likes it OK, but is still looking, especially since it may be short term. Joyce - Is going back to school an option for you? Put your resume on as many sites as you can and I'll bet you get calls. And send your resume when a job interests you. Sometimes the requirements listed for a job are only a wish list. to all! |

Joyce, big hugs for you!!
I wonder if this is an opportunity for you to put more time into your own business. If you worked there could you let go of one of your employees so you'd have one less person to pay? Maybe you could take on more there and see it grow? I'm sure the solution will appear when you least expect it. I have my fingers crossed for you and I'm hoping for the best!!! Jennifer, thanks! Ugh sorry its that TOM for you. I'm glad you had fun at the beach!!! So what eating plan are you doing now? Atkins? Stillmans? I have my cheerleaders ready for ya! LOL Oh, I'm so sorry your mom is feeling weak. More s for her! ![]() |

Joyce, glad to see you back. Keeping our fingers crossed for you and sending you
for a great job in your future.Heather, yes, still doing Atkins. It works for me, IF I work it, as they say. After my little detour off the low carb lane, I gained a few pounds back and now am getting those off. So no 'losses' until I get below 285, where I was before I cheated. Less then double digits though, so not too much damage. I feel good though. Lots more energy, and a lot less crabby at times. Sugar makes me too moody, esp. around TOM. I find I have a lot more patience with the kiddos and dh too when I'm LC'ing.Yet another reason to stay on plan. Here's an added blessing to share. Last time I took the kiddos to the cinema, we sat in what I call the 'makeout seats'. Instead of regular seats, they are like loveseat cushions and very comfy. Yesterday, I took the two older boys to the movies again. We saw Hoodwinked (in Europe, we are behind a bit on releases). It was good, the kids liked it. Anyway, it was in a different room than usual. No loveseats. So I resigned myself to being squished in the seat for 90 minutes. I can fit in them, just not terribly comfortable. But.....you all know where I'm going here.....the seat somehow got bigger! Or maybe I got smaller? My oldest ate popcorn and the younger one at M&M's, but I didn't feel jealous or deprived. I was so psyched about the seat, I wasn't even tempted to cheat. Oh, and earlier in the day, dh and I took the kids to the hiking trail. They call it the 'jungle'. We walked up and down the paths and I didn't feel like collapsing like times before. So the good news here is that although I gained a little back, the exercising is helping and I think I am more fit these days. I definitely have more stamina while working out than before. Yay! I just had a can of tuna with lemon pepper seasoning for breakfast. Drinking my coffee now and then I am going to tackle my house. It is total chaos. Anybody else do Flylady dot net. She calls it CHAOS. Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome. I must have about six loads of laundry plus 5yr old wet the bed last night. Oh well, it happens. I don't make a big deal about it to the kids, it is a rarity, but I really hate having to wash all the bedding. Can you imagine how it was before washing machines and dryers. Cindy, Moni, Angelique, Jenn, etc. how are things going? to you all!

Jennifer - I need to work NOW. I can't just go back to school. We will lose everything. Hubby did up our budget and we're going to be in deep doo-doo, in 30 days.
Heather - I need an income for US, not just the business. The business is a corporation and we have to keep the finances seperate. Yes, we loan the business money, and that presents a problem, too. Most of our employees work 2-3 shifts per week for pretty low pay. I couldn't work there enough to put a dent in payroll. I'd have to somehow work 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, and let go 8-9 people! And believe it or not, I'm not actually qualified! LOL! It's child care and those people are Group Leader qualified. The state requires we have a Group Leader in each room, at all times. Even if I could do that, I'd still have to take on a fulltime job to keep us from losing our house. ![]() |

Heather thanks for starting the new thread! Yesterday I was shocked that it was already October 1st! where does the time go? yeesh!
How is sweetie doing? I was looking at those pictures that you posted and you look gorgeous! You have worked so hard! I agree with another one of the posters heck I think A LOT of the posters commented on your smile. You have a smile that is contageous! It makes me want to smile just looking at you! Congrats to you and SWEETIE too I read that she lost some weight too!!! Joyce - Nice to see you posting. I wish you all the luck in the world finding something soon. I was wondering, just in case for emergency - can you do temp work until you find something? That will bring in money until you find something perm. PLUS a lot of those jobs can go perm. Do you have office skills? Also, have you ever sold anything on Ebay? Perhaps you could get rid of some stuff you don't need on it. I have sold about 90 things on ebay and it's easy money. If you need help figuring it out if you decide to do it let me know and I'll help you the best that I can to explain it. It's EASY though! Erin - I loved that movie Hoodwinked. We bought it and it cracks me up! Congrats on the chair feeling much smaller! You have worked your butt off literally! You will be below your lowest weight soon. I have confidence in you. Once you set your mind to the plan you work it!!!! Just the other day we went and saw Open Season - when it arrives over there go and check that out. Gosh it was really cute and funny. I love Boog (the giant bear) too hilarious! Martin Lawrence did the voice for Boog. I had to laugh because the hunter (the really mean one) in the movie looks SO much like this guy who lives on our block. He's this buff Italian guy that walks with the chest out with a black mullet. I always want to say ummmm....dude, did you realize you have a mullet! I mean to each his own, but you would think that people would not want to look like Joe Dirt! Jennifer - How goes it chickie? Glad to hear that you had a great time at the beach! Sorry TOM is kicking your hiney! Man, last week when I started this new diet I had my TOM and let me tell you CHOCOLATE was SINGING my name - huge opera going on but I resisted because I WANT THIS WEIGHT OFF! OFF! OFF!!!Your macaroni and cheese sounds wonderful though. I know that one day I can have that again - just not now and you will be able to have Macaroni and cheese later too JUST with dreamfields pasta - I am sure our fabulous Heather could give tips on making some nummers low carb macaroni and cheese! Cindy - How are you doing? Are you doing Atkins? If so how is it going? Did you frame your GED certificate I was just sitting here thinking about Christie - I miss her! I hope Angelique is doing well too - come out - come out wherever you are! Hi Lori not sure when she's coming back I hope she is having fun fun fun! She deserves some time away - she works so hard!Well, today is day 4 on my diet. It's going well - it's hard but I am doing so much better when I don't make huge choices for food during the day. Friday I had: 1200 calories, Saturday: 1305 calories, Sunday: 1300 calories- I just had a shake for breakfast 160 calories with a spoonful of instant coffee and some sugar free davinci marshmallow flavoring. I have only done 30 minutes of exercise and need to step it up. I have to be at 2000 calories burned in physical activity by week 6 - right now I am burning 8.8 per minute so I only burned 264 so far this week. My health educator will be calling today to check on my totals - I have all positive to report! Looking forward to my weigh in on Thursday night - hope it's good! This morning I woke up with my neck so stiff that I could not even turn my head. I can turn it to the left now - just can't look down and turning to the right hurts really bad. I plan on putting heat on it most of the day. I feel so bad but Mikey is going to be watching lots of sesame street and pokoyo today. I can't do much playing I don't like the tv to be a babysitter for my munchkin but not much I can do today. Perhaps a walk on the treadmill and moving my arms the best that I can will help to relieve some pressure/pulling from my neck Okay, I have written a novel so it's time to say bye bye! ![]() Last edited by mikeysmommy33 : 10-02-2006 at 11:52 AM. |

OMG ladies, I am so upset. I feel like I'm going to throw up. I just logged on and read about the school shootings in PA in the Amish school. They are calling it a copycat to last week's CO shootings.
As you might recall, I just moved to Ireland from Lancaster County a year ago. DH and I lived and worked among the Amish and Mennonite communities. They are decent and gentle people. The salt of the earth, truly. We have many friends in the Gap and Intercourse areas. Three girls are dead, possibly more. If you pray, please say one for these families. |

Feeling much better today. I felt totally munchy yesterday and had a big old steak, salad & mushrooms and a cappuchino. Not Stillman's, but not the mac & cheese or chocolatethat I really wanted. Yep, had that chocolate opera going on!
![]() I've bought some Christmas presents! I got an e-mail from philosophy advertising some shower gel that 100% of proceeds go to breast cancer research, a cause near and dear to my family. So I ordered one for my mom, sister and SIL's (& one for the giver )Erin -WTG fitting in the movie theatre seat!!! I need to start flylady. I think there's a thread in the playground. Joyce -Moni had a great idea about temp work. you find something soon. Moni - at mullet man. Joe Dirt indeed! Glad you'll have good news for your counselor tonight! I feel those familys' that lost their precious little ones.
Those men are truely cowards, why not go to the streets and take some drug dealers or gang banger lives. those are the one's hurting society. I already took my two oldest girls out of school B/c of the violence in their schools. they do electronic studies over the internet its just like being in a classroom. I'm doing atkins. and yes i framed my GED and its hanging in the middle of my livingroom wall. _ _Cindy ![]() |

Erin, glad you're feeling better after coming out of your carb haze! Have I mentioned sugar is pure evil? LOL That is so awesome you could FEEL the difference in your hips at the movies. They do make those seats snug. I had that same experience at a concert. Always think the seats got bigger before thinking your butt got smaller. But I'm sure that was great motivation to keep at it!!!!
Aww that's sad about the shootings!! Joyce, I'm so sorry!!! I guess I'm out of advice, I wish I could do more. Although Moni's suggestion to contact a temp agency might be something to consider. I am hoping for the best!! Moni, thanks! My smile is something I can take full credit for...no braces! LOL Thanks for asking about Sweetie, she's doing very well. Not giving her the aspirin for 2 days and seeing how she does. Glad your eating plan is going well. Your weigh in on Thursday is going to be great I bet!!!Jennifer, so you're doing Stillmans? I know that works great for a lot of people, but not as much variety. You're going to rock it though, I know it!!! Great job staying away from mac & cheese and chocolate. One battle down, one day at a time!!! Hey Jennifer, can you forward me that email with the info on that shower gel that the proceeds go to breast cancer research? That is a great idea!!! to everyone!!!! |

Well Happy Flippin' Birthday to me.
My station did a format flip (sort of) yesterday. They're still country but with a new name. Instead of mixing in some older country and a few classic rock songs, now they are NEW country, with an upbeat delivery. If that doesn't just add salt to the wound. When I accepted that gig, I was told we would move in that direction, which is an on-air delivery I've been doing for 20 years! I am really pissed. My eating is completely off-plan. I'll get through today, so I can have my cake (and eat it too... ha) and then I have to cut the crap out again. I did have one promising radio lead, yesterday. But you never know. I cannot work in an office. I just can't. I'd rather be a grocery cashier/checker than work in an office. OMG, what am I SAYING? I have got to get back on-the-air..... ![]() |

Overeating 'like drug addiction'
For obese people overeating is akin to drug addiction, research suggests. Scans on seven overweight people revealed the regions of the brain that controlled satiety were the same as those in drug addicts craving drugs. The US team who carried out the research said the findings could potentially help to uncover new treatments for obesity. The work, led by a New York scientist, is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It gives us another channel to understand how to treat or prevent obesity - Dr Gene-Jack Wang The researchers looked at brain impulses in seven overweight individuals. They had all been previously fitted with a weight-reduction device called an implantable gastric stimulator (IGS). The implant sends electronic signals to the vagus nerve which then relays messages of satiety to the brain, thus reducing the desire to eat. To study the interaction between the stomach and the brain, the volunteers received two brain scans spaced two weeks apart, one when the implant was turned on and the other while it was switched off. New channels While the volunteers were feeling full and the implant was turned on, the scan revealed an increased metabolism in the hippocampus, an area of the brain associated with emotional behaviour, learning and memory, the orbitofrontal cortex and the striatum. Lead researcher Dr Gene-Jack Wang, at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York, said: "As soon as we saw these scans, immediately it reminded me of what we had studied in drug abuse when people were under a craving situation - the same areas in the brain lit up." He said this supported the idea that there were commonalities in the brain circuitry that underlay food intake and compulsive drug intake. Although the study was small, he added, it would help to further understand the desire to eat and obesity. "It gives us another channel to understand how to treat or prevent obesity." Professor Jimmy Bell, of the molecular imaging group at Hammersmith Hospital, said: "This is a very interesting paper. "There is a lot of research going on around the world looking for biomarkers - anything that will tell you directly what is going on in a biological process - to understand the relationship between appetite, satiety and emotional factors that control what we eat, and when we eat and how much we eat. "I do not think it is surprising they have found a link between drug addiction and overeating. In a way you can think of eating as a 'necessary addiction' - if we were not addicted to eating, most of us would stop eating." Story from BBC NEWS: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/h...th/5399762.stm Published: 2006/10/03 06:47:46 GMT © BBC MMVI |

Double duh on that article Joyce. Must have been written by some skinny minnie. So there is an addictive reason why we eat, rather than just a simple desire to be fat?
I hope my tax dollars didn't pay for that research....I don't know if you were half serious about being a cashier Joyce, but with the holidays approaching, there will be some temp. jobs in the stores next month if you need money ASAP. Still on plan today. Down two pounds since last week. That would be a big hurrah if I wasn't re-losing it. There should be a term for that, like used car ads. Hey guys, I've just lost two pounds of pre-owned weight! Today is shopping day and I got a turkey breast. I turkey. I could eat it every day. I never realized you could actually eat it when it wasn't thanksgiving or Christmas day.... Yesterday's foods were can of tuna, salmon fillets w/ green beans and garden salad w/ chicken chunks. Lots of water, great choices. I am really proud of myself. I need to work on my portion control. I think the content of the meals are fairly good, but I am eating too much of it. If I would just drink all my water, that might help fill me up! My kiddos are going to be so mad, but today I bought mostly healthy foods. I do let them have treats, but they will eat more if it's around. (Duh, me too, right?) My 7 yr old has a real sweet tooth and will always reach for the carbs first. DS 5 is a real fruit and veg eater, so is the 4 yr DD. The other two will eat whatever is put before them. All my kids like fruit, so I'm making yogurt and fruit salad parfaits. Put anything in a fancy glass and it looks better. Another thing I've discovered lately is that my kids really like celery with cream cheese or peanut butter filling. Who would have thought? Hugs to everyone! ![]() |

I just did a HUGE post and it didn't transfer across that really irritated me when that happens.
In a nutshell: Joyce - Try to enjoy your day even though there is a lot of stress - hopefully you get a new job on the air soon!Erin - Your meals and planning sound awesome! Keep up the good work. Those pounds are coming off!!! TWO POUNDS Just made an appointment for hubby for CT scan - he goes on the 17th - we found out at his appointment last Friday at the Specialist that his nose was broken when he was a child another case of the abuse in his household while growing up! So, that is why he has had breathing/clogging problems in his nose - the bones are twisty turny curved and made the passage small/narrow so he had problems breathing - all these block head doctors and one other specialist said NOTHING WAS WRONG!!! so for TWELVE YEARS hubby has been doing the only thing that helped him - using over the counter nose spray AFRIN, VICKS etc. when I met him I was like YOU USE HOW MUCH!!!???? and he said that he has to use it daily or he clogs up so bad - well all the years of using them have messed up his nose really bad. His nose is addicted to the sprays and needs more and more. The specialist put him on Prednisone last week and he takes 8 pills a day - his CT scan will help the specialist figure out how many surgeries he will need to help him - I guess the first one will deal with fixing the bone not sure. It's just so annoying that all the prior doctors said NOTHING IS WRONG! Just found out today that my friends hubby has lung cancer He has smoked for 58 years! He started when he was 11 that to me is so sad.She was telling me that she is bringing the grandkids over for Halloween and we will spend time together (their Mommy is going on a cruise so my friend gets to have the boys) they are so cute! I think Mikey will be superman but not sure. I don't want him going to the doors but will push him in the stroller and give him a toy bag with goodies and a few treats like arrowroot cookies and those toddler biscuits that he loves and he will get a FEW pieces of chocolate not much. I don't want him loaded up on garbage. I will look at that as an opportunity to walk and get fresh air and not eat junk and fill Mikey with junk Meals today: 10 am: 1 chocolate shake w/instant folgers and pinch of splenda 12 pm: 1 vanilla shake w/ s.f. strawberry jell-o to make a strawberry shake = 330 calories so far I will be having another shake in two hours. Yesterday I was SOOOOO proud of myself - I got in just under 100 oz. of water!!! ![]() How is everyone else doing? |
