New Challenge... Fit at 40

Challenge Thread

I am almost 38. I weigh close to 400 lbs. Again. I do so well for a while, then I allow myself to get too comfortable and start slipping "non-legal" things in. Before I know it, I'm out of control. Again.

It's time to stop. No More! I want to be fit at 40! That gives me two good years to get my @ss in gear.

Anyone with me?

I'm trying to decide between several plans. Atkins, Scarsdale, WW or South Beach. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I really don't have any suggestions. I've struggled for so long. Some medical issues are pending doctor's treatments and I suspect that's part of my problems. But the biggest problem I have is stress and emotional eating.
I do ok until dinner most days. Then I blow it. I also am not able to do much in the way of exercise so I just keep sabotaging all my hard work.

I'm good at supporting others though

I would like to join this challenge with you! I turned 38 in May and my goal is also to be fit by the time I turn 40. I have a little over 100 pounds to lose and I would love to get tone and fit! I joined WW the middle of July and I am already down almost 12 pounds. I don't do really low carb, but I have given up all the yucky white stuff. I do eat a lot of whole grain foods as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables. I also have to watch fat and calories which works well for me.

I would suggest you go with a plan that you can stick to long term. Nothing spells failure faster than forcing yourself to do a plan you hate.

I hope we can be great buddies on our venture to be fit and fabulous by forty!

I do know I can't do induction. WOW.... it's made me very ill, even adding a few extra carbs to the 30'ish range.

I'm going back to what worked for me last time. It doesn't have a name, but it includes small servings of fruit, milk and still doesn't allow pasta, potatoes, rice or bread. I lost well on it. It really seems like WW Core plan, now that I think of it!! I don't know why I can't just DO IT without screwing it all up

I was doing sooo good. Now I'm ticked at myself. I'm up 5 pounds from siggy

Hello everyone and congratulations on the resolution to become fit. I have also resolved to be healthier and more fit in my coming years I turned 45 in June , so I am over your age limit but I wonted to wish you all well.

At one time in my life I was 350, I lost down to 195 ( I am 6 feet tall, with a large ,long fram. Big feet and long fingers ) and after having twins 7 years ago my weight as been between 235-255. I would like to be at around 210. when I am smaller , I don’t look as well.

Have a good day everyone and good luck .

Kitty, I have a no name plan really. It's somewhat low carb, but not one that will put a person into "ketostick" ketosis. It's fat burning, thermogenic as well as ketogenic. I don't eat wheat products, potatoes, rice, corn, sugar.
I have one small serving of fruit a day, in combination with a protein sourse like cottage cheese or hard cheese.

I don't count calories or carbs or points or anything. I usually do weigh or measure my food, but at this point I can kind of eye it.

For breakfast I have 2 or 3 eggs, 3 oz of bacon or sausage and a smidgen of cheese made into an omlet with peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.

I try to have a snack but usually am not very hungry. If I do want a snack I'll have 1/2 an apple and some nuts or cheese.

Lunch is usually some sort of salad with mixed greens and about 4 oz of protein like grilled chicken or a burger patty. I use full fat dressing, about 2 T and dip my salad into the dressing.

I allow another snack if needed. A protein shake or some celery and ranch dip. Then dinner (I try to eat before 7, but that's a challenge in this house)
6 oz of protein, usually steak or chicken. But fish, turkey, etc are good too. 2 cups of green beans or eggplant or zuchinni (low carb vegetables) and a small salad.

I am supposed to have 80 - 90 oz of water a day. THAT is a HUGEMUNGUS challenge for me.

I lost sooooo well when I did the plan. I weighed today at 238. If I don't goof up tonight (munchie monster kills me at night) I'll be down 2 or 3 pounds tomorrow.

I usually post my menus daily for accountibility sake.

Keep in mind Kitty, exercising makes a whole new outlook when you consider the scale.

First off, the muscles will hold water like a comfort cushion. It's temporary and really is good for them. It helps flush out fats that are embedded in to muscles and attached everywhere inside of us.

Secondly, muscle toned bodies are slimmer but not lighter. Don't take a higher reading or a stall on the scale to heart. Just keep working it!

And lastly, when we get warmer we tend to hold fluids. It's summer and when we exercise we automatically warm our core temperature. So ignore anything the scale tells you unless you see significant gains. That probably will not happen unless you go off the food part of your plan.

I am very sedentary. Partially from pain and partially from fatigue. Its such a battle of wills. If I start an exercise program, say, walk one mile video, it will nearly put me in bed for a week. I can walk a mile.... just not as fast as the video! It might take me two hours. If I do it 3 times a week, it will take 4 to 6 weeks before I can actually feel better. By that time...... I give up.
