1. How are you doing on the Halloween challenge? Give yourself 100 points if you haven't eaten any Halloween candy in either October or November. Not a single itty bitty tiny little piece!
DOING VERY WELL On not eating the halloween candy...not so well about staying away from sugar free candy. 2. And speaking of holidays, what are you doing for Thanksgiving? Give yourself 50 points for planning ahead, and telling your team what your plans are. Where will you be eating, what will be served, what will you eat, what WON'T you eat, what will you do to stay out of the stuff you're going to avoid, what about leftovers, and so on. It doesn't matter what your plans are. All that matters here is that you planned ahead. Then give yourself another 50 points for reporting back to your team afterwards and telling how you did. Did you follow your plan? What worked and what didn't? What will you do differently next time? I plan to have dinner at my mom's. I will make my own pumpkin pie so I can have a piece and then I will have turkey and green beans and maybe creamed spinache....I will stay away from the rest of the stuff that isn't low carb! 3. Need a bit of extra motivation going into the holidays? Go to http://www.he.net/~zone/prothd2.html and compute your lean body mass at the beginning of the year and now. (You may have to guess about your beginning neck measurement.) Give yourself 10 points for every pound of lean body mass that you GAINED. These are the good pounds. Haven't done this yet but I will 4. Finally, let's do another Make Your Own Challenge challenge. You know what works for you and what you need to work on. Design a challenge for yourself, tell your team about it, and let them know how you are going to allocate 100 points for the challenge. It can be a daily challenge (3 points every day you exercise) or a one-time challenge (100 points for staying out of Mom's pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes). Whatever you need to keep you eating low carb and healthy this month. My challenge is to not eat any sugar free candy this month. I give myself 3 points for each day I don't eat it and 10 points for making it the entire month! This is just sugar free candy with the sugar alcohols....I may still have a atkins breakfast bar on the run in place of a meal. Ok...trying to do better this month...lets see. And, of course, the regular on-going challenges.

Hi everyone, I am struggling something awful, I watched the biggest loser on Tuesday, boy those people sure do lose a lot of weight in such a short time, some lost 85 lbs in 2 1/2 months, but the guy they let go this past Tuesday kind of hit home, he said if you want it bad enough you will find a way to do it. And so I am thinking that I wanted it bad enough in the beginning but I lost it some where along the line, I think I want this but must not be so sure because I let myself eat High carb junk food and candy and now I am only down about 17 lbs instead of 40. I gotta figure something out. Well I will have to think about what I am going to do for this months challenge and I will post about it later. See ya all later.

OK so here we go, I screwed up the Halloween challenge already.
so no points there. Thanksgiving is at my house, I will be cooking the supper and there will be a salad also, I will have Turkey, squash, salad, olives, stuffed celery, pickles, I am going to try to make the pumpkin pie for my self also. I will stay away from the high carb foods, potatoes, stuffing ECt..... My lean body Mass for January of 2005 was 92 and today is 104 I guess that is not bad, but I really need to be back on track. I went and did my Lean Body Mass. In January it was 115 and in November it is 127. That is a gain of 12 pounds....for 120 points. Hmmm....we might be in the positive this month Nell! <GRIN>
Come on girl....we can lose a few pounds this month even with the Holiday. Oh, and I will be 40 years old on November 22nd. So if I am not totally depressed and eating everything in sight...it will be a winning month!!! |

OK, I am not doing so good on Atkins way of eating, I am looking around for something that might work better for me. Like Weight Watchers or Micheal Thurmans Body Makeover. Something I can have good Carbs on anyways.
I have tried Atkins for 3 years and have only lost then gained just like always. I know there is no miracle out there, it takes hard work and dedication and eating right. I just gotta find something that works for me. I am still going to weight in with you and finish out the challenge since I am still down 20 lbs for the year so it was not a total loss. I just need to find a new way to eat. Hope everything is well with you and You have a Big Birthday coming up, I just turned 42 in October so I am over the 40 hump but I really don't want to carry around this weight anymore. |

Nell, I am sorry to hear it is an ongoing struggle. My eating actually is ok, it is just my lack of exercise of late that is the issue for me. I really need to get back into the exercise routine. I have started drinking 100+ oz a water a day on average which I hope will help kick me back into weight loss again. I can't complain about low carb. Something clicked for me and then while I have not been losing weight at least I have not been gaining any of it back.
Not sure what it is you need Nell but I hope you find it. It has to be what clicks for you and what you can live with the rest of your life. Thanks for the birthday wish....not so far away and I will be 40 ACK. I feel so old but my sister says that the 40's are the NEW 30's HA I say it is only because that is where we are headed (she is just 19 months behind me!) ANyways, thanks for the wishes! I promise to post my data and send on the 15th. Hope to see yours too Nell. |

Hi all , I am sorry I let you down Lolar things just havent been good this month, i went and tried the 6 week body make over and seems like a really good program, except I am hungry all the time and think constantly about food when I am on it. So I am going to stick with LC but I won't be finishing out the challenge, I want to wish you the best of luck, I know you will meet your goals, because you have come so far already. And I hope to see you around the boards, I am going to keep on trying I am still down 16 lbs at least and hope to get myself under control and realize I cannot eat no other way but LC or I lose control and start eating everything in sight. Well, I doubt that it is a matter of not wanting it bad enough. I think what it is more like is that you don't think you deserve it so you sabatoge yourself....ok, at least that is how it has been with me over and over again. I have finally lost 140 pounds but I have to struggle everyday (some days hard than others.) I have to fight the little part of me that says, "what you are doing is not and Will not make a difference so you might as well eat whatever you want." It is a bad little self destructive demon in there....I think many people with weight problems have them!
I wish you both the best of luck. I haven't had much weight movement since April but I know someday I will get there. Even if I only lose 10 pounds a year, in 14 years I will be exactly the weight I want to be. You guys haven't let me down and you haven't let yourself down AS LONG as you keep trying. Maybe not in this challenge. I am not going to turn stats in anymore either. It doesn't have to be this challenge but eventually it will "CLICK" and you will get it right.....just NEVER give up on being the healthiest you that you can be....the weight will follow eventually. Thanks letting me know what is up with you guys...I wish you both all the best. |
