Good Morning -- thought I'd better post now before digging into my day. I'm only here until noon since I volunteered to help at the book fair. And I think I need to try to get into the doctor's office before that. Ears are still plugged and my sore throat is back -- of course, that can be related to the ears. But, I'm feeling blah and achy again so I realllly need to follow-up with the doc. I'll end up working at home tonight, there's no doubt about that.
Made a ham yesterday so I've got that to provide many meals for the week. Tonight I promised Jessie I'd make wild rice soup -- it's one of her favorites. Monica - hope you're on the mend and able to take your exam today -- sorry to hear you fell victim to the flu. Gotta fly Foxes -- I expect work to be pretty hectic this week -- gotta get my training data built for the prototype by Friday. Today's menu: B: flax muffin, 2 slices bacon L: small salad w/ranch, ham D: chicken wings & zucchini |

Good morning all,
We still have a mouse in the house -- I heard it this morning and DH saw it...so we are still on the mouse hunt. I know they usually travel in pairs so I am not surprised, but still I thought we were done... Can you believe we are still going to be in the 90s this week..geesh this is getting a bit much. At least the mornings and evenings are cool so we can get out but I still have to run the a/c during the day. B - eggs, sausage, cheese S - string cheese L - burgers D - pork, black olives Happy Monday and wishing you all a GREAT day

Ugh - can't get in to see the ENT specialist until Wednesday afternoon. It's gonna be a long week with being busy at work and not feeling well.
Jessie just called and said school was cancelled today due to a broken water pipe. The neighbor had already gotton the automated call from the school and saw her outside and yelled out to her. Sure enough, 5 minutes later she got the call at home. She's one happy camper! |

Interesting article in USA Today about maintaining weight loss. I know none of us are at maintenance, but I thought it had some useful stuff for people who are losers in progress.
![]() You can click the link above for the whole article, but here's a highlight (that, by the way, validates the Foxes ):"Weight-loss maintenance is the No. 1 problem in the treatment of obesity," Wing says. "The question is: Can we stop regain? The answer is a resounding yes." The government-financed Brown University study of about 300 people over 1½ years encouraged participants who had lost weight to do the following: • Step on a scale every day. • Try to be physically active at least an hour a day. • Participate in face-to-face weight-maintenance classes or Internet programs that offer support and instruction. • And if they regain 5 pounds, put on the brakes by following a better eating and exercise plan. |

Thanks Lauren..
I think this is the first I saw "step on a scale every day" Even though I do it...sometimes I just can't handle the numbers Until recently and after almost 2 years doing this I am just now learning not to let it ruin my day (when it bounces up anyway). I know I don't exercise for an hour a day... |

Diane, I've found if I step on the scale every day it helps me to keep focused. When I'm in binge mode, I tend not to weigh and it allows me to remain in denial longer.
Sometimes the daily weighing will affect my mood, but I've gotten so used to it that I usually don't sweat a couple pounds except when I'm trying to hit a specific goal. I don't know that I would recommend it to anyone else, though, because it can be frustrating. For me, the real test is what jeans I can fit into, so sometimes I know without the scale that I'm screwing up... As for exercising an hour a day, HAH! If I didn't have to work, maybe, but probably not even then. |

Hi Foxes,
I'm just out of bed long enough to say hello.....what a rough, rough night. Not only did I get sick all night long, but Kayla relapsed at 3am. This is the worst flu we've ever had. I thought she was well and had planned on sending her back to school today. So, all three kids are home, I'm trying to get some much needed rest so I can function. (like that's possible w/three kids) I was able to re-schedule the exam for tomorrow or Wed. I have to call my instructor in the morning. Luckily, they waived the 10% per day deduction that they normally enforce. Hopefully they realized I would have to be on my deathbed to want to miss a test. I'll check in later after my nap. Hi all,
Poor Monica...I hope you and the girls get well soon. Here's a hug for each of you... How does Dan manage not to catch it?Well, I survived my babysitting adventure and came out unscathed...the children did too. I popped in a DVD of Bambi and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.I picked up my flute for the first time in over a year on Sunday. They are trying to revive the band at church for our Christmas program. I have to say since I have been working out, my breathing is a lot better and I can hold the notes longer. My lips aren't too happy though. This week I will be able to go to the gym everyday except Friday. There is no bible study due to some rehearsal. I hope everyone is enjoying their Monday! Chip~Did you take a picture of that bear in Alaska??? I hope your day is getting better.Lauren~Great article! It's my first time seeing that it's good to weigh everyday also. I know what you mean about the cheating and not weighing...I'm there now. I will get on the scale at the gym tonight and get moving on my goal. It's safe to say I won't make it to my b/d goal. No discipline...Kim~Reading your menu today makes me want to make some pumpkin flax muffins. I know Jessie is very happy...we never got breaks like that when we were in school. Nancy~Way to go on you no cheating... I need to come back to Albany and take lessons from you. I just can't seem to get it together.Rhonda~Did you get to go to the gym today? You might have posted this in the last thread and I didn't get around to reading it. I hope your day is going well... Diane~I am terrified of mice. I think I would leave my apartment and go to a hotel until they got it out. The weather is all over the place around here...one day it's 85, the next day it's 55. Hi to anyone I miss. |

Monica...I'm so sorry that you got the flu too
and I know it really bothers you about your test, just concentrate on getting better...school will be there when you go back I hope you and the girls are on the mend soon. Maybe Dan will make you all some chicken soup and do the "cater to sick wife and kids thing" Tarsha...I'm so glad that you are finding interest in the flute again. You seem to be concentrating on bettering yourself in some many ways other than just weightloss and I think thats what this journey is about for many of us. It just starts with the weight... Chip...is your avatar trying to tell us that are not in a very good mood? It looks mighty grumpy I hope work lets up on ya...take care of yerself.. Diane...your mouse is probably on a rampage because it lost it's wife/husband to the sticky trap better be careful Lauren...thanks for that article. An hour of exercize a day yeah right. I'm lucky if I can relax for that long...I'm always busy doing something. Think housework...walking at work count towards anything? Weighing everyday has it's benefits, but it also has its disadvantages. I guess it depends on the person and whether or not they can handle the changes every day. Mine can be 5 pounds difference each day... Rhonda...feels better before the crack of dawn? I think my bed feels pretty darn good about that time Kim...I take it your ear is still bothering you? I hope it gets feeling better... Hiya Nancy...did you blow away in all this wind we're having? I think I'm coming down with something too. I'm pretty sure it's probably sinuses. I've had a monster of a headache for about a week now. Yesterday and today it has decided to settle right behind my right eye and I'm getting stuffy I hate being sick...it seems like no amount of ibuprofen or tylenol help the headache either... For accountability I'm posting my menu for today. I did cheat. After the number on the scale today I was feeling bummed and figured "why not" I forget that the scale fools us from time to time and plays mean tricks. I was stupid. I always "start over" it seems every week. I'm getting very discouraged. But I will get there...I just have to get back on that darned wagon and hang on tighter this time...I wasn't going to say anything, but I can't lie to my friends... So my food: B-slim fast (ok so far) L-and this is where I screw up..General Tso's Chicken and the bad "R" word...rice D- slim fast not enough water..only about 2 liters... OK...I confessed...now I got dishes to do... ![]()

Hi Fox Family,
Well, I'm starting to feel half human again. I haven't been sick in atleast 12 hours and my energy is slowly improving. The kids had a decent day ~ a few complaints about tummy aches, but no major events to report, so I'm hopeful they can go back to school tomorrow. As far as Dan is concerned, I think he's doomed and he thinks he's just lucky. We shall see what happens over the next couple of days, but I would be amazed if he doesn't come down with it. It wouldn't be fair if he doesn't, I'll tell ya that. Ummm...today's menu: B~water, 3 ritz crackers, 3 Advil L~water, 3 ritz crackers, 3 Advil D~water, 3 ritz crackers, 3 Advil S~SF Jell-O, string cheese, 3 Advil, & Diet Sierra Mist I did find something positive in having the flu....the weight-loss benefits can't be compared to any other diet plan. I hopped on the scale this afternoon just for fun and had to smile when I saw I had made it into the Century Club. I won't be claiming any new numbers until next Monday, but it was nice to see that my body actually can give up the 100th lb. Now I can focus on keeping it there. Quick personals tonight, and then I'm off to bed.... Tina, I hope you're not coming down with anything. Take care, and stay on plan!!!! That yummy, yummy chicken you splurged on isn't gonna help your headaches!! (and you're making me crave it now)Tarsha, I can't wait to hear you play the flute! Can you bring it to the next gathering? Any chance you can meet me somewhere over Christmas break?Pokemom, it is New Year's weekend I am looking at for my vacation (which I need now even more than yesterday ) Thanks for sharing the article ~ I'll have to check it out tomorrow. Loved the horsey pic!Rhonda, did you have a good day back at work? Does your mom live nearby? Need a vacation? Right after Christmas???? Kim, sorry the Dr. is busy until Wed. How was the bookfair? I always spend way too much money at those things ~ I like them as much as the kids do.Diane, another mouse? Uh-oh! You are having hot weather ~ maybe the mouse is seeking a cool place to stay. It was 16 degrees here on Sat. morning. Brrrr!Chip, that's a big, scary bear. You trying to tell us something? How did the rest of your day go?Nancy, where are you? Did I miss your post somehow? Hope you're okay....did the wind die down yet?Well, I'm off to bed again. If I can get the kids to sleep all night tonight, and I can sleep all night tonight, then there's hope that we'll be on the mend. Wish me luck!! Monica ![]() |

Hi all!
It's been a weird weird day. I think I'm going to go to bed early and make it end. Menu for the day: B: the leftovers from Diane's recipe L: Chinese -- all meat and veggies, there might have been starch in the sauce, but no rice or noodles and nothing breaded S: 3/4 of a protein bar -- Sloane ate the rest D: Turkey, all by itself No exercise. I probably won't get back to the gym for a couple days because my schedule is pretty hectic. Monica, I hope you and the girls are truly on the mend. Congratulations on your unofficial entry into the Century Club. I've been thinking about Vegas, and while I'd love to leave the kids, the more I think about it, the more I think I won't be able to bring myself to do it, as much as they drive me crazy. But keep me posted on your plans. Who knows. In 2 1/2 months, I could have a change of heart.Tina, I hope you can get rid of your headache. I guess we both had a yen for Chinese today. Those recommendations for maintenance would be pretty difficult -- especially the exercise -- but I'm glad it at least validates my scale obsession ![]() Tarsha, good for you for picking the flute back up. I've never been able to play a musical instrument and I've always admired people who do. I think it's about time for you to get on the scale and get back to work. It doesn't matter if you make your birthday goal, but you don't want to be going in the wrong direction. Diane, I hope you get the mouse out of your house soon. That must be nerve wracking. I had one run across the floor several years ago and I started screaming and jumping around and I usually don't have that kind of hysterical reaction. Kim, I hope you start feeling better before your doctor's visit. I can't believe it takes that long to get an appointment. ![]() Rhonda, you've almost convinced me to schedule a massage. I recently sat in a shiatsu chair for the first time and I think I need the real thing. Was it good to get back to work? Chip, thanks for getting us started. How about telling the story about the bear? Nancy, where are you??? I hope everything is okay. That's it for me tonight. |

Monica I'm glad you and the girls are feeling better..Boy you sure do know how to feast... Well, I am not sure what I had yesterday.....
My stomach bothered me all day, I was dizzy and had a slamming headache. I had the headache during my sleeping hours and woke with it yesterday morning. It was knocking the stuffing out of me. So I went to the grocery store after work, came home and put my pj's on and went to bed at 5:20. I woke at 8:15pm, ate some provolone cheese for dinner, got a stomachache again, watched a bit of tv and went back to sleep. Perhaps if I had gotten the stomach bug and had the vomiting I would feel better by now.... I still feel yucky this morning. I am going to take some tyelenol and have some coffee and see if I can jump start myself this morning. I have to go to work, but really want to go back to bed. The wind is still whipping and will be stronger today. Guess what.....it's raining!!! Mark turned the heat on yesterday, it is the first time this fall. As far as I am concerned it can stay off for a while, but I guess he was cold. He says my internal thermometer is broken. Only because I was rearranging my bedroom Sunday and had all the windows open. I was comfortable, he was freezing.Coffee is ready, off to combat my headache and get ready for work. Monica~hope you are feeling better today!!! |

For all our sick Foxes
and ![]() Last night I went to take the dog for a walk and my neighbors have also started walking their two dogs (german shepard and a boxer) and we went outside at the same time so we walked together. The first time we walked together was fine because it was a fast walk, but last night it was more of a stroll and I really wanted a fast paced walk so while I enjoyed it socially, I was disappointed I didn't make the most of it. I am gonna have to figure something out and work on my timing so we go with them once in a while, or else see if I can get them to walk faster. The first time we walked fast but that was because the dogs were leading!!! One good thing about walking with them is I don't feel like anybody will mess with me -- because while my dog is a whimp (yes I admit it -- he is more of a lover than a fighter -- when he sees a dog on the loose he usually looks at me, puts the leash in his mouth and is ready to get the heck out of there) bit with the german shepard and boxer -- nobody will mess with those dogs!! Surprisingly though the 3 dogs do well walking together. B - burgers S - string cheese L - tuna w/mayo and green beans D - pork and black olives Last edited by TXLoser : 10-18-2005 at 06:30 AM. |

My dog is an 80+ lb spoiled baby!!! Sometimes he thinks he is a lap dog!!
I love him though...he always lays next to me and knows when I am sad. Besides he is the only one who acknowledges me when I come home. Yesterday DH (D used lightly here) and SS were watching TV when I came home -- I didn't get any acknowledgement that I made it home...but there was my dog wagging his tail waiting for me!!! We have our routine (the dog and me) when I come home he runs into the bedroom, I change my clothes and we sit on the bed and talk about my day. He usually doesn't have much to say -- he just looks and me and listens.... |

Hi all,
Well I took Lauren's advice and hopped on the scale this morning...still at 175 which I'm happy about considering how I have been eating. The exercise is definitely helping me to maintain and I am getting too comfortable where I am. I wish I could afford a trainer because now I think it's about toning some areas and I want to know how to do it correctly. Maybe if we get bonus checks this year for Christmas, I can use the money for that. I'm not being really bad...I just fell in love again with cereal and milk and I can't seem to put it down. On those milk commercials don't they say that 3 servings of milk can help you lose weight and trim your waist? Anyway, I'll be spinning tonight and maybe do some running. Everyone have a great day! |

So... I haven't exercised for a week... I've been on plan for all of three days... And I just saw my lowest weight so far. My poor muscles must be shriveling up in neglect.
Yes, there is a little evil voice inside my head saying "Don't go back to the gym. It's easier to lose without it." but I'm going to ignore it. My weight loss slowed from an average of 10 pounds a month to a slow slow creep when I joined the gym last December, but I know it's necessary for achieving the shape I want. That said, there will be no gym for me today. I'm spending my morning talking to some eighth graders about responsible journalism. I HATE public speaking, but eighth graders can't hurt me, can they? ![]() Here's my menu for today, although I might need to stick an afternoon snack (probably peanuts) in to the mix because those frozen meals don't tend to hold me over. B: EAS Mocha Latte shake S: hardboiled egg and string cheese L: WW Smart Ones frozen meal with extra broccoli D: I'm experimenting with hamburger, onion soup mix, mushrooms and sour cream so that the SO can learn once and for all that I will never be the cook his mother was I'm just trying to remain confident that this particular set of ingredients will mix together okay.I'll be back later, but to all the sick Foxes! Feel better ladies! |
