Goal Getters ~ Team 12 ~ October 1-31

I'm taking this post that Shell listed in the September thread ... I think it makes the perfect kick-off for October.

Quote from Neveragain (Shell) ... Sept Thread:

We only have 3 months left of this year!! Any suggestions on how we can really make these last three count?! What do you want to accomplish in these next three months? Having goals is such a big part of losing, as I really believe we can't accomplish something if we don't have a focus on what it is we want to accomplish. So....think about those things this weekend, get really focused and lets post our goals for these next three months!!!

Hi All ....

I just came back from 2 hours of work at my old school (soon to be my present school). They needed help moving mulch and I volunteered. I was a big bucket of sweat. I came home and hit the shower first. Ahhhh ... now I feel human again.

I am thinking about my current goals too. I twisted my ankle a week ago and had to stop walking for a while, but it's fine now. I will resume my walking this evening. It made me feel good.

1) Walk a minimum of 3 miles/day for 5 days/week.
(Eventually I'd like this to be 5-7 miles, but I'm going for consistency first).

2) Drink a minimum of 120 oz of water every day.

3) Continue eating low carb.

4) Find a weekly activity / sport to be involved in for fun.

I think the last one is the most important. It will change with the seasons, but if this lifestyle is going to stick I need to get invovled in some activities that aren't so solitary. The consistent walking will take care of my cardio, but I need to add more for pleasure. I need to think of exercising as fun. I might find a class to try, resume tennis (I used to play round robin at an indoor court), resume downhill skiing ... you get the idea.

I think that the reason I haven't seen a consistent loss and keep bobbing up and down the same 3 or 4 lbs is because of exercise. It still isn't consistent every day. I think that when I make that happen, the pounds will melt away.

I can't wait to see what the rest of you decide for your goals!

hey there,
Muse, sorry to hear about your ankle. Your goals look great. Okay, here are mine for the rest of the year.

1. I will finish the year WITHOUT cheating once.
2. I will drink at least 100 oz of water EVERY day (my goal per day is 120...but my minimum is 100 oz)
3. I will get at least 30 minutes of exercise in EVERY day (even if I have to do jumping jacks in 5 minute intervals). Time will not be an excuse. I have 30 minutes every day.
4. My goal is to complete my goal to lose 100 pounds this year...which means I want to be 198 pounds by December 27th!!!

Okay, I know some of my goals don't seem that hard. I am obviously going to try to exercise more than 30 mins per day but my focus right now is making it a discipline. I can be a very sparatic person and I really need to discipline myself so by saying that I have to do 30 mins a day, at least I know I will get that in every day.

Shell,

Your goals look great. I know what you mean about making the goals something daily. It's HARD getting that exercise in! I believe that the consistency is what makes the weight loss happen. It isn't magic ... it's consistency. Your body works best with a little discipline.

I got home late today, but I still managed to get in my 3 miles. Boy, is it hard. I was tired and I didn't want to do it, but I feel good because I kept my word. My ankle is doing better. I see this as a stress reliever.

Muse, good work getting your 3 miles in. I know sometimes getting it in comes down to sheer determination! Great job!!!!! Glad to hear your ankles doing better!!

I started the m/e fast yesterday. I think I am already losing some water weight. My body hold on to so much water!!! I thought about looking into some type of water pill or supplement. It drives me crazy!!!

Patti, Lappni..you gals around?

Shell ....

When you get back to eating veggies again, try the natural diuretics first. Mushrooms and cucumbers are both supposed to help get rid of water. I will check my natural book to see what else they reccommend. I know how you feel ... I am totally TOM bloated right now. Ugh.

I still managed to get in my 3 miles today, though it took me longer. I had a lot going on in my mind and it was hard to keep moving. I'm going to be consistent, so HELP me!

Biggest Loser Challenges for October

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Just three more months to go! Have you learned new habits or discovered things about yourself that will help you continue with this WOE and WOL after the end of the year? 25 points for writing about this on your team thread.

2. Small bits of exercise throughout the day can add up to big losses. Give yourself 5 points for each day that you walk somewhere instead of driving. This includes parking at the edge of the parking lot instead of in the closest space and things like that. This is sort of vague, so you'll have to decide for yourself what counts. The idea is to get in some extra exercise.

3. 2 points per day for posting your menu on your team's thread. An extra 40 points (total for month is 100 points) if you post your menu every day. October 1 is a freebe, since this is getting out so late.

4. This is a special Halloween challenge, but the points will have to come in November. Next month, give yourself 100 points if you haven't eaten any Halloween candy in either October or November. Not a single itty bitty tiny little piece!

And, of course, the regular on-going challenges.

Shell,

Thanks for posting the update. I will miss a few because I didn't look, but I'll get points for the rest of the month for menus.

I need to get a few things done and will check in again later ... this was just a quick peek.

I don't think it should have been difficult for them to find the new post ... I put a link in there. I'm just guessing that they have been as busy as we have been for the past couple of days.

I will be spending the entire week moving. Ugh. I will be moving my math stuff from storage in my attic to my living room (makes it quicker for the movers) today and Monday. They will take it to my new school on Tuesday morning. On Thursday, I pack all of my speech stuff and take it home in my car. I will move the old furniture back into the speech room. The movers will come Friday to take my file cabinet from the speech room to the building I'll teach math.

Friday, I will spend time with the math sub, then the rest of the day unpacking my math stuff. I will go in on both Saturday and Sunday to get my math things situated, so I will be ready to teach on Monday.

Because things are going to be so crazy, I am making a great big pot of lc soup and a broccoli cheddar crustless quiche. For this week, that's what I'll be eating for my meals. Quiche, salad, soup, or a combination of them. I will be too tired to do much more than that.

I mowed my lawn today ... I also need to update my miles walking and my water. I was so tired yesterday that I just crawled into bed and fell right asleep. I'm trying to get all the speech paperwork organized so it's easy for the person coming in behind me. My mind is also planning ahead to think about how to figure out what the math students already know and what they need to learn. A lot of the tricks I use to make the year go more smoothly and quickly (the review of certain skills) didn't get done by the person subbing for me. I'll need to do those things while I keep them moving ahead so the right amount of material gets covered for the year.

Because of all of this, I don't know how many days I will be logging in this week. I don't want you to worry ... I will make it easy for myself to stay on plan but I'll probably be too tired to do a lot of checking in until the weekend. All of my extra time will be devoted to paperwork and organization. I can't stand to be disorganized!

I wish the best for everyone ... please be sure to check in !

Muse

Edited to add: Shell ... don't worry. I remember that we'll need to check in on Friday to send you our stats. If you need them before Friday, be sure to let me know ASAP! Otherwise, I will send them to you on Friday.

Hey all!

Just a quick note from me too ... I am buried in paperwork and determined to dig myself out today. I'm not even going to update my siggie! I am eating well too, but haven't done my walking. I'll be back on track once I'm moved. I think these circumstances are a little out of the ordinary. I just focus on eating well and drinking my water.

BTW ... I love soup. I love having a big batch in the fridge that I can just dip out of when I'm hungry. It's such an easy meal. If you don't like to cook a lot, this is a really good idea. There are very few places where you don't have access to at least a microwave to heat it. 60 seconds to a home-cooked meal. Can't beat that!

Halleluah!!!

Hail Hail the 3rd Musketeer is here. Well gals I got on the scale Yesterday and it wasn't anything nice. I knew it wouldn't be. I gained all but 5lbs back. I am not going to continue with the official challenge cause it would detract from all your totals. I will definitly keep posting as though I were in it I haven't been taking my fluid pills either cause we have been on the road so much back and forth etc. Finally was able to go back get my stuff and move into and apartment. I still have a few boxes to unpack but all the important things have been put away.

My dh and I have started to use the exercise room at my complex so I am going to have no excuses about not having a gym memebership. I wish they had an eleptical machine but , they have a stair climber instead ugh. I have just been doing the treadmill and tomorrow I will switch to the seated bike. I see that you all have been reacessing the next 3 mos. goals.

No since in kicking my self cause of the fall off the wagon . I am just going to pick my self and dust myself off and start all over again.

Back to the basics: writing down everything I eat , not going over 1200 cals eating 2 servings of calcium a day and doing at 30 mins of some activity every day .Definitely going to up my h2o cause I can go to the potty as much as I want cause I am not working at the moment . Probably wont be really looking till Jan . I am looking though in the Sunday paper just maybe one will turn up before then.

Muse~The soup idea sounds good specially since the weather is starting to cool off up here. The nites have been in the 50's and the days have been in the 80's. Sounds like you have a good plan going.

I watched the Biggest Loser Challenge tonite and they certainly are inspiring as well. I got out all my reading material concerning lower fat leaner protein , that an portion control ought to get me back in the saddle . I may not always eat the perfect meal but, I can control the quantity. Well girls nite nite. Its great to be back!!

hey Joyful,
So glad to you have you back!!!! I know I speak for both myself and Muse when I say that we'd like you to continue the challenge with us. Points aren't what's important. Finishing out the year is!!!!
Glad to see your motivation is up!! I'm starting m/e again today to see if I can break this stall I seem to be in. My cruise is next week and I am very excited!!!! I'll fly into Dallas on Thursday so I can spend some time with my sister and friends there and then on Sunday I head to Hawaii!!! I am ready for some nice, sunny weather as it has been pretty overcast and rainy here!
My exercise is not what it should be School has kept me pretty busy. My mid-terms are next week. At least they'll be over with before my cruise!!! I'm only missing one of each of my classes...so I think it will be okay. Okay, well glad to have you back and really glad to hear you are doing well and adjusting to your new place!!!

Muse, how are you? Finished moving?

Hey All!

Thanks Shell ... you do speak for me. Joyful, I am very glad to see you back! Now that things are settling back down again, we can work together to take the weight back off.

I haven't exercised this week ... I just don't have it in me. I have had such late days trying to get things finished packing that I am exhausted when I get home. I will be unpacking over the weekend and things will be back to normal again on Monday. I plan to do my walking again.

I have lost 2 more inches (yeah walking) but still seem to be sticking at the same weight. As long as something is moving, I am satisfied that my work is making a difference. Once things are back to normal again with me, I might do the M/E thing again. I liked the energy I got from doing it.

My caffeine intake this month is going to be a killer. I've had a lot in the last week or so to keep myself going. I figured it is a smaller sin than eating way off plan, which has definitely been a temptation.

Shell ... you should have a pm with my stats. If I don't get a chance to post again before you take off ... have a GREAT TIME with your visit and on your cruise! Soak up some sun for the rest of us!

Well I kind blew it yesterday and ate some sugar I think the stress of seeing all my friends next week got to me. I was so mad at myself!!! Some habits are SO hard to break. I def. see patterns of turning to food when I feel insecure. I have to got to get over that!!!
Ok, well I hope you both have a fabulous weekend!!
