Grrrrrr! I was so spoiled in Eureka! I had a really great pharmacy. I've taken prescriptions to Kroger's 4 times, and they've been unable to fill at least one of them each time. Today I went to pick up a prescription that I dropped off on 9/18, and they didn't have enough on hand to fill it! However, I was assured by everyone I spoke to (pharmacy tech, pharmacist and a manager type) that it wasn't THEIR fault. How nice to know - it made me feel much better! So I took the prescription to CVS pharmacy instead. They didn't have enough to fill it either! Though they came closer - they had 116 of 120 tablets, while Kroger only had 80. It's not like it's an uncommon drug, either.
But to back up. Last night I was really tired and hadn't had enough water, and ate about a pound of Swiss cheese while I was waiting for my supper to heat up. Then I had 2 servings of leftover lasagna (zucchini instead of noodles) with some parmesan for "supper." Then I quit. This morning I was going to get up and go for a nice long Rocky-less walk. Instead I slept/dozed in until after 11. Sure felt good! It's the first time I've done that in a long time. Got up then and went to the Farmer's Market, without eating first because it was so late. It closes at noon. Got there and there wasn't a lot left, both because it was so late in the day and so late in the season. But I got a few tomatoes, some cukes, a pepper and a pie pumpkin which I'll cut up and put in the freezer for soups and casseroles this winter. Then I went to Kroger's to go grocery shopping and pick up the prescription. And even though I hadn't had anything to eat and it was after noon, I stuck with my grocery list. And then I went to CVS to get the prescription filled, and it was well after 1 by the time I got home and I was in a really crappy mood and I just had the salad that I had been planning on having. Romaine with a leftover turkey/feta burger, some feta cheese (measured), tomatoes, cuke, and dressing (measured). I feel much better now, but I'm still going to stick with something pre-measured for supper since it would be very easy to ignore portion control tonight. Hopefully I'll be in a better mood tomorrow. And I wore a pair of jeans that someone gave me that I didn't fit into. They were a bit more form-fitting than I usually wear, but quite comfortable. And not nearly as form-fitting as most women wear! At least on campus. So, all in all, it hasn't been a terribly awful day - it just feels like it! Have a great weekend everyone! And a great month, too! maw |

Results & Challenges
Here are the results from September, ladies; CONGRATS to EVERYONE for coming in #1 in points for September! Challenges and normal points follow, copied from the challenge board.
------------- Here are the results for September: Ranked in order of highest average points earned for the team: 1. Team 11 2. Team 14 3. Team 12 4. Team 4 5. Team 2 We still have 21 members in this challenge but 5 did not report this month. If you have someone on your team who is no longer participating, let me know because this does affect your point average for the month. No one got back to me with new exercise point totals so I just kept original numbers but I had a few point values which weren't possible such as 40 pts, 30 pts, 200 pts. Please double check your figures before submitting. Thanks everyone and keep up the great work!!!! Only 3 more months to go! ============= Biggest Loser Challenges for October -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Just three more months to go! Have you learned new habits or discovered things about yourself that will help you continue with this WOE and WOL after the end of the year? 25 points for writing about this on your team thread. 2. Small bits of exercise throughout the day can add up to big losses. Give yourself 5 points for each day that you walk somewhere instead of driving. This includes parking at the edge of the parking lot instead of in the closest space and things like that. This is sort of vague, so you'll have to decide for yourself what counts. The idea is to get in some extra exercise. 3. 2 points per day for posting your menu on your team's thread. An extra 40 points (total for month is 100 points) if you post your menu every day. October 1 is a freebe, since this is getting out so late. 4. This is a special Halloween challenge, but the points will have to come in November. Next month, give yourself 100 points if you haven't eaten any Halloween candy in either October or November. Not a single itty bitty tiny little piece! And, of course, the regular on-going challenges. EXERCISE Less than 500 minutes exercise/month = -100 points 501-599 minutes of exercise/month = 35 points (avg 17 min/day) 600-749 minutes of exercise/month = 40 points (avg 20 min/day) 750-999 minutes of exercise/month = 50 points (avg 25 min/day) 1000-1149 minutes of exercise/month = 65 points (avg 33 min/day) 1150-1249 minutes of exercise/month = 80 points (avg 38 min/day) 1250-1499 minutes of exercise/month = 95 points (avg 42 min/day) 1500+ minutes of exercise per month = 120 points (avg 50 min/day) WEIGHT LOSS Any weight GAIN = -5 points 1-4lbs lost per month = 4 points 5lbs lost per month = 5 points 6lbs lost per month = 6 points 7lbs lost per month = 7 points 8lbs lost per month = 8 points 9lbs lost per month = 9 points 10lbs lost per month = 10 points 11lbs lost per month = 11 points 12lbs lost per month = 12 points 13lbs lost per month = 13 points 14lbs lost per month = 14 points 15+lbs lost per month = 45 points WATER consumption per month (in ounces) 1983 ounces or less = -100 points (avg less than 64 oz/day) 1984-3100 ounces = 35 points (avg 64-100 oz/day) 3101-4340 ounces = 85 points (avg 101-140 oz/day) 4341+ ounces = 150 points (avg 141oz+/day) MEASUREMENTS INCHES LOST HALF-Inches lost per month (total ONLY from waist and hips (same for both men and women)) You are encouraged to measure more body parts for your own records but just the waist and hips will count during this challenge: Add 10 points for every HALF-inch you lose (measured monthly) add hips and waist together for a combined total. If you choose to measure every three months, you will have to be on an individual challenge only. All team members are expected to measure and report their results on the last day of the month. (permanent challenge) Deduct 20 points for every HALF-inch you gain from the prior month. FURTHER ADDITIONS AND DEDUCTIONS: Deduct 1 point for every can of diet pop that is not made with the Splenda Sweetner or another Atkins-approved sweetner. Example, saccharine is not good. (Even if it doesn't stall you). (permanent challenge) (hint: drink Diet Rite) Deduct 1 point for every 12oz. you drink that is not caffeine free. (permanent challenge) Deduct 30 points for going over YOUR monthly carb intake goal at all! (permanent challenge) Don’t forget that posting is an ongoing challenge for the rest of the year. Give yourself 1 point for every day that you post on your team’s thread. Have a great month! maw

Maw, it sounds like yesterday was a mixture for you. We switched from using Walmart for a pharmacy to a locally owned small town pharmacy, and couldn't be happier. As for sleeping in--sometimes, you just need it. Although I tell ya, I think I've reached the age that I just can't sleep past 7 am!
So here's my menu for today, so far: B: protein shake L: salad bar (haven't been yet so don't know what I'll eat) D: fajitas without shell or beans/rice I love the challenges for this month! As long as the knee's in a good mood, I *always* park away from buildings and take the extra walk. (And mind you, one of my special talents in life is the weird ability to *always* find a close parking spot, even in the height of Christmas season!) Just the mere thought of Halloween candy makes me want to hurl, so there's some easy points! There's lots of stuff I've learned that will help me stick to this WOL after the end of the year; I just need to think about some of them and compose them into rational thought. (That's a feat this morning.)Waving at Dawn & Kelley & Katie, and hoping everyone's having a good weekend! We're off to a birthday party for a couple of friends this afternoon. |

Good morning! Yay, we're number 1! Which, of course, we always knew anyway, but it's nice to have the rest of the world admit it.
I'm going to post my menus the day after, except at the end of the month, because it so frequently changes. Or maybe I'll post what I think I'm going to eat and then what I actually eat. We'll see. Anyway, here's my prospective menu for today - Breakfast - protein shake (I got some Diet Rite red raspberry as a change from the tangerine, but I like the tangerine a lot better. The red raspberry taste is sort of sticking with me, if you know what I mean.) Lunch - going to eat out with Jen before we go on our hike at Griffy Lake. Not sure where we'll go, but we're looking for someplace cheaper than last week. Which shouldn't be hard - it was a lot pricey-er than either of us planned. Supper - Orange Five Spice Chicken - the chicken in marinating in a mixture of soy sauce, oil, vinegar, Splenda, five spice powder and orange oil (recipe calls for sugar-free marmalade but I'm substituting). I'll bake it tonight and have a veggie with it. Probably either green beans or broccoli, with some of the marinade over it. Rocky wanted to keep going this morning! I'm not sure, though, that he fully considered the fact that we still had to go back home, so we only went an extra half mile (mile round trip). Got my reading done for 2 of my classes this morning. And read half of one of the juvenile books I have to read and review by Friday. I'm trying to make a point of reading some "boys" books since my book list seems to be heavy on "girls" books. Got any ideas of books that boys like? Best get going with stuff that needs to be done before I leave. Like getting dressed. Have a great day! maw |

I'm back to meat fast today, and eating 5-6 small meals, so my day is most likely going to look like this:
2 eggs, pat of butter (just finished them) 1 ounce hard cheese Tuna with mayo 1 ounce hard cheese 5 ounces ground beef, mayo & hot sauce So who said meat fasts were a joy to the taste buds, huh? Boring as snot, but I'm good with that. I may end up switching to posting what I had on the previous day instead of what I'm going to have--that way I'm not posting it twice if something changes. Plus I keep everything in FitDay and can just copy it over.I'm shooting for a minimum of 2 gallons of water a day again this week. TOM is now gone. I'll be doing my hour of cardio this afternoon, since DD is home (4 day weekend from school); I'll work out while she goes through her pitching and hitting routine (fastpitch softball). I'd *love* to take the opportunity to walk at the park, since DD and DH would be close by if my knee misbehaves, but it's also supposed to get up to 92 today, so may be down at the gym in the AC. ![]() Here's to a great day! |

Well ladies, my fast has ended. Finally got overwhelming last night and so I decided to end it. I'm going to plan on fasting 1-2 days a week because I know that it will help me continue on the detox path that I have chosen.
Back on the LC Food path for me. I have to admit that I am kind of disappointed, but I'll get over it. Lisa....um this might sound dumb, but how is cheese a part of a meat fast? I though it was meat & eggs strictly? I haven't looked into it...just curious ![]() Maw, Kelley, Dawn - Hi there, hope you had a great weekend ![]()

Hi everyone. I'm in a bit of a funk, otherwise known as a foul mood. Not majorly foul, just enough that it doesn't take much to push me over the edge. Have been for a few days now. And my food hasn't been great the past few days either. Not too bad, still on program, but too much food. And I know they are related - both cause and effect for each of them - food and mood. I also know at least part of the problem - hitting the teens is scaring me. I'm not "aware" of it, but I know from the way I'm reacting that that's at least part of the problem. I also think this is the part of my TOM cycle that I want to eat, though I'm not sure since my last one was 6 weeks instead of 4. Anyway, I'll get through this. The challenge is to get through it without using food to do so!
Yesterday's menu was - Breakfast - an awful protein shake that I won't make again Lunch - Steak and Shake restaurant - taco salad minus the shell and the corn chips Supper - Orange Five Spice Chicken (2 leg quarters, plus the skin from the other 4 leg quarters), broccoli with some of the fat/broth from the chicken over it, way too many samples of the two quiches I made last night Today's menu is - Breakfast - protein shake - back to old standby tangerine Lunch - meatloaf quiche Supper - Orange Five Spice Chicken, either broccoli or green beans with some of the broth/fat from the chicken A couple of weeks ago Dad had angioplasty (sp?). Now he's on a really restricted diet. He's had to watch is salt since he had heart surgery about 10 years ago, and Mom has watched his cholesterol, but now it's really strict. He's allowed up to 6 ounces of chicken, turkey or fish a day. Other than that, he and Mom say, he eats beans and rice. I sure would like to suggest that he try Atkins! My cholesterol has really dropped since I've been eating low carb. But I figure I'd better leave that up to him and his doctor. I'm going to send Mom a couple of my old low fat cookbooks. I got rid of a whole bunch of them when I moved, but I still have a few. Katie, I'm amazed that you stuck with the fast for as long as you did! You said you were being medically supervised - what does your supervisor (doctor? nurse? dietician? whatever) say about going off of it and fasting a couple of days a week, instead? Will you still be doing the juice fast for those days? And come on, girl, give us the important news - how's Bailey? Why a 4 day weekend from school, Lisa? Is there a holiday that I don't know about? But then, we had school on Labor Day, so we could be missing lots of holidays! So what's with the weather, anyway? It's supposed to get up in the high 80s here today and tomorrow, 10 - 15 degrees above normal. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be in the 60s though, with frost predicted for the weekend. Wierd! Hi Dawn! Hi Kelley! Have a great day, everyone, and a great week! maw ps - My office is in the front bedroom, and looking out the window I see the neighbor's tree. Don't know what it is, but it's starting to turn bright red. Nice! maw |

Good Morning Ladies...
Wow what a weekend!! Friday I wasn't feeling to good but we had plans to go out to dinner with some friends. I had the Fish.... didn't taste good so I didn't eat it all. Saturday morning I got up took Sadie to the vet for her last series of shots including Rabies.... we went home and she wanted out side...she went out for a bit and came in and her snout looked different but I couldn't place it...KWIM? She went in the livingroom for about 10 minutes and then came and found me... Her snout was HUGE!!! So swollen it looked like she had a 6 pack on her nose... My poor baby... so we rushed her back to the Vet and they gave her some cortizone and benadryl... She's back to normal now but it did scare me. And that was all before 11 am.... anyways that night we went to the local festival... I didn't eat anything. I'll be posting my menus the day after... as I usually change several times a day. 10/2 Menu: B: 3 eggs, 3 bacon strips... I was so hungry L: nothing... D: Fajitas.... Chicken with red & green bell peppers.. (yum) S: sm bowl of LC ice cream... Lisa.. I agree with you on these challenges... Easy... I always park far away.. we have a black car and DH doesn't want anyone to mess with it... it's his baby... so I've just gotten kinda use to it... ![]() As for the Halloween candy... it won't be a problem all month... that is until they trick or treat... I need to resist the chocolate. I will be strong! Katie... I have the same questions as Maw about this fasting... don't be to disappointed about stopping the fast... At least you went straight to LC. that's an achievement.. I probably would have binged on everything. ![]() Maw... Rocky is really getting the hang of this... Sorry you're in such a funk and I hope you'll be better soon.. Sorry I don't have any advice about the teens thingy but I wish you luck in figuring it out.Hi Kelley... So I see the weather is going to be low 60's today... Gotta love Seattle!!! I guess that's it for today... well right now... must work!!

Lunch was already changed--hamburger patty instead of tuna.
Maw, I'm sorry to hear you're going through the funk! I get in those moods on occasion, too. As for your dad--my mother's 73; she has been on cholesterol meds for several years. She went on Atkins and now her cholesterol is absolutely within normal ranges. She doesn't have a history of heart problems, though. We have a friend who went on Atkins and lost 70 pounds after his heart doctor gave him the choice, during an appointment, of starting Atkins *that moment* or being admitted to the hospital. His cholesterol was through the roof. Dawn, did your vet give Sadie a nasal spray for Kennel Cough? That would be my bet for the offender! My mother's dog had a similar reaction. Now it's in her charts to *not* give her the nasal spray. (I think there's another option available; KC treatment is for dogs that will be boarded on a regular basis, and really isn't necessary in all cases.) Way to go on getting through the weekend without eating much, although I'd be a bit put out about ordering fish and not having it taste right! Well, I'm finally getting around to doing a progress page on my weight loss. You'll see the link in my signature; right now it's just pics, and not all of them are up yet. |

LOL, Dawn! I was thinking that as I was looking at the pics--in fact, I haven't ever assembled all the pics in one place before. I should retitle the thing "Evolution of Lisa's Hair". <snicker!> I promise to have a new pic up once I get my contact lenses back; the appointment's tomorrow, and if my eyes have totally healed, I'll get my lenses in a week or so.
Maw, I forgot to answer your question about school being out. This school goes on a 6 week's term; parent-teacher conferences were on Thursday, and since the teachers end up working until 9 pm, they give them Friday off. As for today, the kids are out, but the teachers have inservices. DH is a teacher. |

Hi everyone!
Had a great weekend. Caught up with DH cousin and went out to lunch on Saturday and then yesterday went to the store and drove around to look at a house we saw on the internet, also bought DD a "potty chair" which she sits on 100+ times per day I think we have decided to live over on Bainbridge Island, a 35 min. ferry ride to downtown Seattle. Yep, weather has been moderate, a little rain this weekend, but very sunny today. Been walking every where and that equals points this month! Menu for Sunday: BR: 2 eggs, scrambles w/Cheddar and bacon LN: chicken salad lettuce wraps and a nectorine DN: sashimi (tuna, clam and cooked shrimp) YUM! with a seaweed salad, diacon (sp?) radish and a cucumber/avocado salad with lime Lots of water and 30 min on the treadmill (since we drove) Maw - I feel for you and the "funk". Dawn - I hope Sadie is doing better, that would have freaked me out. Lisa - I hope your eyes are better, look forward to seeing a new photo. Katie - any pictures of your pup? Way to keep going on the juicing! How much have you lost from juicing?Catchup with you all tomorrow.

Hello Team 11
First off, Well Done for last month team 11!
Lisa ...... WOW Woman! Look at you Now! You look great and need to hear it from strangers as well as friends . Congratulations on your weight loss so far!Now I do have a question for you Lisa, as I see from your web site you are open to question about your journey and like me, I am sure that a lot of other people would like to know about this. After losing 140 pounds and I hope in my guess you are over the age of 35. How is the extra skin thing???? I know that we all get saggy baggy as we age and losing weight at the same time will cause more extra skin, but I see people that lose a lot of weight very fast and have a lot of Extra skin that doesn't shrink or melt away with the fat. You have lost that 140 lbs at a steady rate over a couple of years, which is my goal. 137 lbs and if it takes me 3-4, or even 5 years then that's how long it takes. This is a way of life for me. Even though I would want nothing more than to already be at goal weight in the quickest time possible I have a great fear of the Extra skin thing. I did say at the start of this year that I wanted to lose 100 lbs for the year, wishful of me wasn't it!So I would like to know from someone who has lost a lot of weight, and 140 If you don't want to tell everyone, you can Pm me you answer. Thanks and again Well done Lisa and team 11. Pennel |

Went to KMart today after class because they had some semi-winter clothes advertised on sale. Mostly I need some light-weight long sleeve tops. Also some kahkis (sp?). Anyway, I got 3 size XL tops (not 1X, but XL), figuring they'd fit sometime this winter. They fit now! Also a couple of sets of sweats to wear around the house, also XL (not 1X), figuring they'd fit sometime, and the tops fit now too! The bottoms don't yet, but that's not surprising. And I got 2 pair of khakis (if I spell it enough different ways, one of them is apt to be right), one in a 22 and the other in a 20. Again, figured I could wear the 22's now probably, and the 20 later. Well, the 20 fits! Mostly fits anyway. They're a bit snug, but wearable and I can even sit down in them. As you may gather from this, XL and 20s are new for me. Just wish I was in a mood to appreciate it. (As you can tell, I am bound and determined to be in a funk today!)

I think I'm in a better mood this morning - or maybe it's just that nothing has happened yet to set me off! Today is my long day - class this morning and this evening. Next week I have a big computer assignment to hand in on Monday, along with a research paper. Tuesday I have another computer assignment to hand in in the morning and a research paper in the evening. Friday I have something but I haven't looked to see what. And, of course, I'm supposed to be working on the semester assignments, too!
Oh well. Good mood or not, my food was good yesterday. And I'm down another new pound this morning. Have a great day! maw |

Hi, all! Well, yesterday, I didn't get my hour of cardio in... that's one thing I don't like about days that are off schedule. I plan, someone else messes it up. So, I did my lifting this morning, plus today's 1 hour of cardio, and plan to knock out at least part of the hour I missed yesterday during the day today.
Weight's back up a bit, after such a nice losing trend last week, but I'm hoping meat fast and getting the sodium out of my system will make that short-lived. Pennel, thanks so much for your comments! Now... for the loose skin thing: it's different for everyone, but I'm sure you've heard that before. I'm 43, by the way; barrelling toward 44 in just a couple of weeks. I can tell you what my personal experience has been. I do have a lot of loose skin. It has drawn up somewhat as I've lost weight, and I'm sure it will continue to do so, but I honestly don't expect it to draw up completely. Some areas are better than others; considering the amount of fat I've lost in my face, I expected more of a turkey chin. There is some, but not nearly what I expected, and it seems to be drawing up over time. My worst areas seem to be my upper arms, sagging boobs, pannus, and thighs. I swear, my thighs look like they're sliding down my legs. The pannus (lower abdomen hanging down) is hopeless, I think; I had an emergency c-section and they didn't exactly do a good job with the cut (vertical incision), so I expect to need plastic surgery there when all is said and done. My abs also seem to be the slowest to respond to exercise, even though I push them. ![]() The rest, though, I'm okay with. I still have a way to go, but I think over the next couple of years, my skin will draw up more, and frankly, I can't expect to have been morbidly obese for 20+ years and escape with no scars. I don't worry about wearing sleeveless shirts, for instance; my arms could look better, but so could many other arms that belong to people who were never overweight. I will add this: I firmly believe that staying hydrated has helped my skin, which tends to be very dry; and I also believe that muscle tone under the skin has helped immensely. Maw, get rid of that funk! Fitting into smaller sizes should be perking you right up! Way to go on getting into smaller sizes and dropping another pound!Kelley, it sounds like you're starting to settle in nicely. I've heard such wonderful things about Seattle; and the ferry sounds pretty neat! Menu yesterday went as I amended it. Today, I've eaten 2 green eggs (farm fresh from aracunas) with a pat of butter, and I'm sipping on some caffeine-free peach spice tea. I expect lunch to be tuna, and dinner's still up in the air. <waves at Dawn and Katie> |

Good Morning Everyone....Ok afternoon..
Menu for yesterday was: b: 2 eggs, 2 bacon L: Chinese...lunch meeting (yuk) BBQ pork & veggies ..very small lunch D: 1 cup of goulash (sp?) dreamfield pasta, green beans, tomatoes, hamburger... ate 1 cup.... not sure I'll do it again.
