Hot Mamas (Team 9) May
Here are the new challenges for the month.
SPECIAL CHALLENGES FOR MAY: 1. Last month you were to try new exercises, sports, equipments, classes, etc. This month, post on the Biggest Loser New Exercise Thread and tell us about what you did. Did you like it? Are you still doing it? What are the pros and cons of it? Maybe you'll inspire some of the rest of us to try it, too! Give yourself 20 points for posting about your new exercise. 2. Low carbing is a Way of Life, not just a diet. We're in this for the long haul, not just a quick fix. Getting bored with what we're eating is a major cause of cheating or falling off the wagon. Give yourself 10 points each for up to 2 new recipes that you try this month. It doesn't matter where the recipes come from, just that they're new to you, and that they fit into the stage and program of low carbing that you are doing. The recipe board here has some great recipes, and there are lots of low carb cookbooks out there, or maybe you'll invent something yourself. Post your recipes on the Biggest Loser New Recipes thread, and tell us what you thought of it. 3. Exercise is important, but so is just plain moving more. And it's spring! So this month, get out there and do something you wouldn't otherwise be doing. Go for a walk in the park, and take time to enjoy the flowers. Play catch with your kids. Go to an amusement park or water park. Go for a walk on the beach. It doesn't have to be "exercise", but you do need to be doing more than sitting around in a lawn chair, and it does have to be outdoors. Give yourself 25 points for doing it. 4. And finally, give yourself an extra 25 points if you exercised more minutes in APRIL than you did in MARCH. REGULAR CHALLENGES: EXERCISE Less than 500 minutes exercise/month = -100 points 501-599 minutes of exercise/month = 35 points (avg 17 min/day) 600-749 minutes of exercise/month = 40 points (avg 20 min/day) 750-999 minutes of exercise/month = 50 points (avg 25 min/day) 1000-1149 minutes of exercise/month = 65 points (avg 33 min/day) 1150-1249 minutes of exercise/month = 80 points (avg 38 min/day) 1250-1499 minutes of exercise/month = 95 points (avg 42 min/day) 1500+ minutes of exercise per month = 120 points (avg 50 min/day) WEIGHT LOSS Any weight GAIN = -5 points 1-4lbs lost per month = 4 points 5lbs lost per month = 5 points 6lbs lost per month = 6 points 7lbs lost per month = 7 points 8lbs lost per month = 8 points 9lbs lost per month = 9 points 10lbs lost per month = 10 points 11lbs lost per month = 11 points 12lbs lost per month = 12 points 13lbs lost per month = 13 points 14lbs lost per month = 14 points 15+lbs lost per month = 45 points WATER consumption per month (in ounces) 1983 ounces or less = -100 points (avg less than 64 oz/day) 1984-3100 ounces = 35 points (avg 64-100 oz/day) 3101-4340 ounces = 85 points (avg 101-140 oz/day) 4341+ ounces = 150 points (avg 141oz+/day) MEASUREMENTS INCHES LOST HALF-Inches lost per month (total ONLY from waist and hips (same for both men and women)) You are encouraged to measure more body parts for your own records but just the waist and hips will count during this challenge: Add 10 points for every HALF-inch you lose (measured monthly) add hips and waist together for a combined total. If you choose to measure every three months, you will have to be on an individual challenge – only. All team members are expected to measure and report their results on the last day of the month. (permanent challenge) Deduct 20 points for every HALF-inch you gain from the prior month. Further Additions and Deductions: Deduct 1 point for every can of diet pop that is not made with the Splenda Sweetner or another Atkins-approved sweetner. Example, saccharine is not good. (Even if it doesn't stall you). (permanent challenge) (hint: drink Diet Rite) Deduct 1 point for every 12oz. you drink that is not caffeine free. (permanent challenge) Deduct 30 points for going over YOUR monthly carb intake goal at all! (permanent challenge) Deduct 100 points for NOT reporting your stats on the 15th and last day of month. Email lagpmgdsls if that is not possible so other arrangements can be made. (permanent challenge) |

Happy May Day
![]() Here's the deal team. I love you all and want to be on this team, but if no one ever posts but me it is pointless to even have this team. I understand everyone gets busy and things happen, but I am struggling too and need support here. Please let me know if you are still committed or if I need to join another team. ![]() |

Mary! I'm here! We had to get a internet service so I haven't been on for a few days. Our old one was constantly cutting us off even though we had unlimited time and wouldn't give us our emails. Found a new one that's cheaper so can't be any worse.
I was posting on the 1st when you were, but just missed catching you so emailed my pitiful stats. Did you get them? As for the woe, I'm not doing well. It's two steps back and none forward. I'm getting discouraged and want to pig out on junk food. I'm just not seeing any results any more and in fact the scale is going up. Ever since Ms. Fingers and I started eating school food, I've not been able to get into the swing of things again. I'll do good for a couple days and then BOOM, something happens and I'm away from home and starving or I just want to pig. Is there a group out there who also has MIA members? I've not been good at posting, but we do need new blood. |

Hi everyone
![]() Laurie - Thanks I live in central South Dakota, from Iowa originally but have lived in SD for 28 years.Betty - hello!! Great to see you here. Yes, I saw your stats. I'm sorry you are struggling. So am I. I'm staying low carb, but eating lots of legal stuff at night when I shouldn't. I agree it's hard to climb back up on that wagon and stay there, especially when there is such a long way to go. I'm mainly focussed on keeping my blood sugar down. I really need to get strict with myself on the night eating, that has always been my downfall. Can you post more? I really feel that I need more support, and I know a lot of that is my fault too since I don't really search it out either like I should. Anyway, great seeing you here and knowing that you are still trying to hang in there! Menu: B - eggs L - hb egg, string cheese, celery, sf jello S - broccoli, fish Sn - sunflower seeds, berries Later!! ![]() |

Good morning, ladies!
It looks like another nice spring day. Dh just gave me a whistling gorilla for Mother's Day. Goofy guy. We won't have kids tomorrow so are planning to go caching together back in his hometown if it doesn't rain. We'll be heading out very early so I'll not be around but y'all stay OP. Mary - night eating is rough. Would it help any to schedule dinner later? It's tough with the family wanting to eat when they get home and you eat with them - that's how it is here, anyway. Glad you're sticking to lc and keeping that bs down. I'm sorry, yes I'll post more but sometimes I ramble! Diana - ouch! That must be painful. How did you do that? Getting your work done is hard, I bet. Have you been painting the town lately with your Red Hats? Ok, how about we all do a high five and a cheer to re-commit to this woe!!! Go Mamas!!! |

![]() Diana - great to see you back here too!! Your poor hand!! Is it healing OK? ![]() Betty - a whistling gorilla?? What's that?? It sounds very goofy Your day tomorrow sounds like fun!!Hey, I agree that we all need to recommit to this (starting next Monday of course ). Seriously ladies - we can do this!! We NEED to do this!! Let's all buckle down and get the motivation we use to have and get some of those pounds and inches off!I think if each of use want to make a personal goal for the following week. Start out small, just one goal for one week, and take it from there. My goal will be no eating after 8 PM, and just have a small snack to have before 8 to take my meds with, not a meal. Well, I gotta run. Take care!! ![]() |

A goal is good. Mine will be just to get back on the wagon and not fall off. If I can just do a whole week, maybe things will kick back in. I'm all puffy again and miserable. Gotta get this thing done.
Gotta run get the car packed before dh gets here. Work called and he had to run in, can you believe the timing, ugh. Have to be at the HS at 7 to see everyone off on their trip and then it's a day of trying to avoid snakes and poison ivy. Oh, did I tell you I got into the poison ivy Tuesday? Yep, if it's there, I find it! Thankfully, there's only a couple spots, itchy icky spots, but just a couple. Hopefully, they weren't a warning of bigger things to come this summer. ;-) Y'all have a good one! |

Happy Saturday
![]() I've been slaving away here so I can take it easy tomorrow. Laundry, cleaning, cooking - uugg!! and still need to get groceries. I am making a LC Brownie Torte to take to the in-laws tomorrow, along with regular potato salad for everyone else. I'll let you know how the brownie torte turns out. Thomas (the German exchange student now living with us) is fitting right in. He is very well mannered and has a great sense of humor. Betty - your goal sounds fine - get back to the basics and just get back to eating low carb. I know for myself after several days it gets easier. Hang in there and stay out of that poison ivy!! Diana - how's the hand?? Lisa - are you still with us?? Menu: B - eggs, sausage L - sf popsicle, CO protein fudge S - veggies, sausage Sn - sunflower seeds, berries Love you all!! ![]() |

Hi everyone...... the hard hurts...... was really bad on Friday... I think handling all those huge, heavy patients charts has done a number on me... I will have to stop piling ten heavy charts or more on my arm and hand... will just have to make more trips to my desk........ I have the arm and hand wrapped... very hard to type
Had to work this morning in our office in the next town over... but just can four patients come in..... I took a book to read but I got three hours overtime then went grocery shopping, sure hard that chore... was also purchasing items for our beach house.....My sons and my daughter-in-laws will be here week of May 15th... just can not wait..... sure am looking forward to a week off work Mary- your echange student sounds like fun.... how long will Thomas be with y'all?????? Betty - sorry to hear that you got into the poison ivy.... that must be rough...We are going to a dinner buffet for Mother's day tomorrow...... will have to pick and choose well.....they will have prime rib The weather is getting better... we had a heck of a storm on Thurs., but this weekend is great in the low 80's and sunny...... will have to mow my lawn tomorrow...... now that we have the sprinkler system on the grass is starting to grow..... but that will be great excercise.... We did a Red Hat outing to Tribute.... a celebrity impersonator show... great show.. we had 90 Red Hatters attend... our chapter hosted this event.... saw Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, Elton John, Liberace and of course Elvis....after the show we got to speak with the performers and have photos taken with them......what a fun evening......good music and dancing.. Well, I will set a goal of not eating after 8pm and I also need to start back to my health center..... just have to go right after work... We can do this....... Y'all have a great Mother's Day..... love y'all diana |

Hi gang
![]() Mother's Day was fun, we visited relatives which was nice. Oldest DS got a car from SIL - she had an old car that needs work and she doesn't want to fix it - so he is in heaven!! DH put a new battery in it and DS drove it back here and it drove fine on the highway. It needs some work on the transmission and some new tires, but hopefully it will run for a few more years. I got 6 dozen farm-fresh eggs from another SIL, so I know what I'm eating every day ![]() Diana - I hope you are feeling better soon!! I hate it when I have lots to do and don't feel well, it sucks! My arthritis in my knees has been really bad for weeks. It hurts doing anything. Today's menu: B - eggs L - hb eggs, lettuce, sf jello S - leftover spicy beef and veggies Sn - berries, pepperoni Exercise - cardio video Have a great LC Monday!! |

Whew, sounds like we all had storms! We've had huge hail the last two days. Had to try shuffling the garage around to squeeze in my old car as much as possible to save the windshield both days. Ha, the weatherman said clear skies, riiiight. Nearby, they had baseball and grapefruit sized hail and funnels!!! Thankfully, our hail wasn't that big but we lost electricity for several hours yesterday. We're on a well so that means no water for anything including the toilet. So, I have dishes and laundry and a bath to get done before the next wave of storms today. We also lost phone service, so no internet but we had it unplugged anyway. We just snacked last night for supper and dh had to get something for his sack lunch in town.
Yesterday was bad all the way around. I subbed 7th grade writing and reading with kids from H - E - double L. This was the room where another sub walked out in tears not long ago. I had to call in the principal, but all he did was tell them in a nice warm fuzzy voice to not mess up the rest of the year - Hello! I needed some serious discipline!!! What was really bad was the same kids were in there for 2 periods so it was a double dose of little demons. Tried kicking one mouthy girl out but the office sent her right back - simply no help whatsoever, ugh. Mary - Your exchange student sounds neat! We also had a German boy several years ago. Ours stayed the fall semester and didn't want to go home, lol. He came back a few years later and brought his brother to meet us. --- Yum, farm-fresh eggs! And you're exercising, too! You go, girl! Diana - Sounds like we all had a good Mother's Day! Your Red Hatters sound like a hoot! You MUST post a picture of you and a celebrity, lol. Ouch, is that hand ever going to get better? What can you do other than keep it bandaged? Is it only going to take time to heal? You're not alone, with all this rain, our lawn is getting weedy but I can't get it mowed until the ground dries. Blah, and then when it dries the mold will come out and everyone will be sneezing. Today's menu: B - cheese and bacon (yes, fatty, but it was leftovers) L - fajitas (leftovers as well, but no tortilla) D - maybe chicken wings and whatever fresh veggie needs to be eaten |

Hey everyone...
My hand is getting better, but my hip and leg are still acting up.... my doctor said that this is bursitis.... I think I have gotten to a age where I am now just going to fall apart so again on the pain meds and some other stuff... Betty..... it just makes you wonder how all these kids will turn out... and that they will be running this world...... really scary thought.... but we the adults are doing all the wrong things for them.... just letting them get away with all they do..... what a shame..... sorry that you had such a bad storm.... our weather the past few days has been great.. just hope that the weather will hold out for next week when my sons come down here.Mary - sounds like your son is in car heaven Hope that everyone has a great day... I am busy at work as usual... and when I get home tonight I have to get busy and get the rest of the house cleaned up and things packed for our beach house...... this will be a busy week.... well have to go back to work.... hope that this afternoon will be a tad slower... love to y'all diana |

I knew it would be rainy when I had the kids wash the car Sunday night ![]() This week has been good at work - 1/2 of my students have been gone! So I have had tons of time to get my paperwork done. We are having the other exchange student from Germany overnight tonight, his host family is out of town, so we will be packed with teens DS's car will get licence plates tomorrow but goes into the shop right away to get the transmission fixed. My knees have been horrible lately, I think I sit too much, I need to get up and walk around more. Take care!! Betty - ugg!! rotten teens!! At least our principal is like a drill sergeant and does stick up for the teachers and disciplines the rotten ones. Menu: B - eggs L - chicken salad S - hamburger patty, lettuce Sn - berries, pepperoni Exercise - I did a part of a video this morning, should do more after school Have a great evening!! |

Ok, I give up. Posting, that is. This is the third time to try! I'd written novels before so this will be short before something happens to it too.
Diana - Girlfriend, are we going to have to send you a big roll of duck tape to hold you together? Glad your hand is doing better, but that's no excuse to let something else go wrong. ;-) Mary - Whew, half your kids gone!!! That's so neat about the exchange students. So, are they not going to school since they're not here long? We laughed at our exchange student not speaking English very well when he first got here, but it wasn't long until he was throwing in English words when he couldn't think of the German ones when on the phone back home. He said he was even dreaming in English, lol! I'm still trying to sell my old car, you sure your son doesn't need a spare ride?!? Am thawing out a small package of beef and have a half bag of frozen veggies so guess it'll be Chinese tonight. Need to eat expiring yogurt for lunch. Quickly posting and crossing fingers... |

Diana - don't worry so about the house, especially if you're hurting. They're family. Just have fun and let the house be.
Mary - hope you're having a good day at school. Tomorrow is a weather day here, but I have to drive in early to get dd off on her honor's overnight field trip to NASA. Party time - for me!!! How many days do you have left? Woohoo, we're down to 9!!! Chinese dinner last night was good. I want buffalo wings tonight but dh's home and he doesn't like them.
