OCEANS 11 (Team 11) April 1-15
SPECIAL CHALLENGES FOR APRIL:
The challenges for April were picked to help motivate us and remind us of how and why we are on this challenge. There are lots of opportunities to earn points, so this should make it an interesting month! The first challenge is to go to the Century Club Forum and read the 100, 200, and 300 pound loser sticky threads. If you do this before the 15th of the month, give yourself 25 points! Challenge Two: Try out a new type of exercise. A new exercise video, a new exercise class, a new type of equipment, a new sport, etc. You have to do it at least once a week for the month. If you want to try four new things, that's fine, just try something new each week. This is worth 50 points! Challenge Number Three: Give yourself 25 points for rereading (or reading for the first time if you haven't read it yet!) the book (Atkin's, South Beach, Carb Addict's) associated with your WOE. Read the one that really goes into detail about this WOE and the science behind it and the rules for following it. And as an ongoing challenge to promote participation, let's continue Kim's challenge from last month... give yourself one point for everyday that you post on your team's thread! REGULAR CHALLENGES: EXERCISE Less than 500 minutes exercise/month = -100 points 501-599 minutes of exercise/month = 35 points (avg 17 min/day) 600-749 minutes of exercise/month = 40 points (avg 20 min/day) 750-999 minutes of exercise/month = 50 points (avg 25 min/day) 1000-1149 minutes of exercise/month = 65 points (avg 33 min/day) 1150-1249 minutes of exercise/month = 80 points (avg 38 min/day) 1250-1499 minutes of exercise/month = 95 points (avg 42 min/day) 1500+ minutes of exercise per month = 120 points (avg 50 min/day) WEIGHT LOSS Any weight GAIN = -5 points 1-4lbs lost per month = 4 points 5lbs lost per month = 5 points 6lbs lost per month = 6 points 7lbs lost per month = 7 points 8lbs lost per month = 8 points 9lbs lost per month = 9 points 10lbs lost per month = 10 points 11lbs lost per month = 11 points 12lbs lost per month = 12 points 13lbs lost per month = 13 points 14lbs lost per month = 14 points 15+lbs lost per month = 45 points WATER consumption per month (in ounces) 1983 ounces or less = -100 points (avg less than 64 oz/day) 1984-3100 ounces = 35 points (avg 64-100 oz/day) 3101-4340 ounces = 85 points (avg 101-140 oz/day) 4341+ ounces = 150 points (avg 141oz+/day) MEASUREMENTS INCHES LOST HALF-Inches lost per month (total ONLY from waist and hips (same for both men and women)) You are encouraged to measure more body parts for your own records but just the waist and hips will count during this challenge: Add 10 points for every HALF-inch you lose (measured monthly) add hips and waist together for a combined total. If you choose to measure every three months, you will have to be on an individual challenge – only. All team members are expected to measure and report their results on the last day of the month. (permanent challenge) Deduct 20 points for every HALF-inch you gain from the prior month. Further Additions and Deductions: Deduct 1 point for every can of diet pop that is not made with the Splenda Sweetner or another Atkins-approved sweetner. Example, saccharine is not good. (Even if it doesn't stall you). (permanent challenge) (hint: drink Diet Rite) Deduct 1 point for every 12oz. you drink that is not caffeine free. (permanent challenge) Deduct 30 points for going over YOUR monthly carb intake goal at all! (permanent challenge) Deduct 100 points for NOT reporting your stats on the 15th and last day of month. Email lagpmgdsls if that is not possible so other arrangements can be made. (permanent challenge) Ok everyone, let's go out and make it a good month!!

Welcome to both LV2BFuny and TooFatforNow!
My name is Kelley-I'm 39, I have been married for almost 11 years, and have an 18 mo old DD. I live in Boise and work from home, and love to scrapbook. I have type 2 diabetes and have been over weight for about 15 years. That's the basics for me. No-C is Erin, she's nursing back an injured knee, and her computer is downstairs (I got that right, didn't I?) and our team captian is LFTS - Lisa. Lisa's brother is in town this weekend and she was going to be busy visiting with him. We also have Chelle - she has dropped from the contest...she broke her leg and is in a cast, so she checks in and visists from time to time. Look forward to hearing from you - tell us a little about you and welcome again! |

THANK YOU KELLEY...
My name is Dawn I'm 37, I've been married for 16 years. I have 3 children, DS is 14, DD is 11, DD is 7... they all have birthdays this summer... I work full time for Experian (yes that's your credit reports people)... lol... I have been over weight most of my life. Hubby is Chris and he helps support me with this WOE... he is also overweight and eat LC when with me... he is a great support system for me... I have attemped LC several times and have failed. This time I am currently succeeding... and loving it. I am currently at the lowest I've been in 16 years I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. I must warn you I am a competitive person and that seems to be helping me succeed... Let's make April a great Month!!!!!!!!! P.s. I am usually not on the computer during the weekend but if it's something that this team requires.. I will make the time. I love to be accountable... It's late here in CA and I'm rambling... I've also been drinking.. yes I drink rum on the weekends... (not every weekend of course )...ok... I better go before I blow my first impression... Have a good weekend... P.S. Kim (toofatfornow) isn't usually on the computer during the weekend either...

Kelley, you are an *angel* for starting this thread! Thanks so much!
I had a fantastic time with my brother and his family. It's been 7 years, and needless to say, even though he knew I'd been losing weight, he was absolutely flabbergasted at my losses. We had a serious talk about it, since he has a daughter in her 20's that's heading toward morbid obesity at an astonishing rate. One of the unique and rewarding parts of this, though, is that I never had the impression that my brother ever took me very seriously. He's 4 years older than me; I'm baby sister. Even now, I had the impression that he was more interested in visiting my mother than seeing me. But after this trip, I think we grew much closer than we've ever been; we've even planned a trip to go spend a few days camping this summer, with both our families. That's another great benefit of low carb... I get the impression I earned his respect in a big way. Welcome to our new team members! Dawn, <thumbs up> on being competitive--I love that spirit. Your beginning stats are pretty similar to mine. It's also great that your DH is supportive; mine's in this with me, too. It helps immensely! TooFatForNow, please do come on in and tell us about yourself! Erin, please do check in! As for me... I'm off the meat fast I was on, but am hitting it again tomorrow. I didn't go off plan while my brother was here; I don't go off plan for any reason. But eating out does mean a lot more sodium... argh! I've got water weight to drop, again. Quick intro: I'm Lisa, 43, married for going on 22 years to DH with a close-to-16 year old DD. I'm a website developer and work from home. All three of us are into weight lifting; and we're also extremely rabid fastpitch softball folks. (DD pitches, DH coaches, I pace the fence!) I'm often not here posting on the weekends, because we're out with games.

Welcome Dawn! We love the competitive thing here!
Lisa - I'm glad you had the time to spend with your brother. I know what you mean about the taking you serious thing and glad he could see you in a new light Erin - where are you??? I'm usually busy on the weekends as well, but try to check in everyday or I have been known to forget for a couple days! I'll be here through Thursday and Friday thru Sunday I am off to a conference again in Salt Lake City. Should be fun - going with a couple girlfriends and it's a big company celebration and training. Also looking forward to getting away from the day to day stuff here I get back on Sunday evening and DH leaves for a week to Guadalajara, Mexico for work. I did sign up for a 12 hour crop (scrapbooking) at the end of the month. It's supposed to be a mother's day crop and lots of fun, so between now and then I need to get a bunch of stuff together so that I can be productive. I'm upping my water intake this month and am off to grocery shop. I'm planning to pick up some protein powder and make LC shake in the am - was very successful with the shakes (water, ice, cream, SF jello and powder - very good) in my prior LC. Lastly, don't miss the April challenges, listed as the first post here, they are worth 100 points PLUS 1 point for every day you log-in, 30 points! And regular points. |

Good morning, everyone--
Let's start off a good week! It's another chance to start the week eating clean, exercising, drinking enough water, getting enough rest. What are *your* goals for the week? I plan on signing up for a leg for Relay For Life, a local walk/run that will be held in the middle of the night on April 22. I've never done anything like this before, but I think I'm ready, and I'm really looking forward to it! I have one brother who's a cancer survivor, and another who's currently going through radiation treatments, so I can't think of a better way to get involved in doing something physical than in benefitting the American Cancer Society. I'm back on a meat fast today, and making an effort to get all my water in; I sure didn't yesterday, and normally that shows on the scales, but it didn't this time. I'm trying to think of some different form of exercise. What's everyone else considering? That's one of the challenges for this month. I think the *best* one is reading the 100, 200, 300 pound loss stories--that's what got me in this forum in the first place, and have to admit that I'm guilty that I've never added my 100 pound story. If you haven't read the stories, I'd highly advise it! It's *so* worth it! Nice to meet ya, Kim! Good luck with the job in the school cafeteria; DH is a teacher, and I substitute teach on occasion--I have a LOT of sympathy for the lunchroom ladies. ![]() |

Good Morning All!
A new week - increase water, keep an eye on the carbs and get in some exercise. Yep, call me Grace, I was making dinner and the bowl I was hold slipped, and smashed another glass dish - and now I have a cut across the bottom of my foot. I heard it all from DH, I wasn't wearing shoes in the kitchen, how did I cut the bottom of the foot, etc. The bummer is it was kind of deep and is sore. Think I'll do the bike instead of the treadmill. And resistence is still ok. I read throught the sticky '100' and plan to read the others - Lisa, you should post your story! New exercise? I really want to try the eliptical trainer. Kim- good luck with your cafeteria interview and welcome! Dawn - the picture from your cruise is great - isn't it fun when you can see the change you've been working hard to make? I love cruises! Chelle - congrats on getting your cast off. One year old is such fun - but the changes for the next 9 months with my DD have been amazing. Chatty, walking everywhere, into everything. Erin - what's up girl? We miss you. All for now, I'll check in later. |

Good Morning Ladies,
Lisa, that Relay for Life sounds like a great idea... good luck... I'm sure you'll be ready. And you are so right about it being a new week and a new month.,.start fresh today and get into gear... My goals this month 1. Lose 10 lbs 2. drink 200+ oz of water a day 3. carbs under 20 a day 4. exercise 30-60 minutes 6x a week I got some new exercise videos and stuff in my Easter basket so I'll be trying those for the challenge. I got the Exercise Ball and Leslie Sansone's Ab workout, some stretchies bands, a toning kit and Carmen Electra Striptease Aerobics.... I think that should keep me busy for the month... oh plus I do 30 minutes on the treadmill..... My two girls are off school for the month.. (they have year-round school) so they be staying the week with MIL... DS girlfriend is out of town for the week so this should be a pretty quiet week at my house.. no interruptions by the phone... yeah!!!Ate the last of the LC ice cream in the house... so that's not there to temp me... eating should be very clean this week... made a rib eye roast for dinner last night... so good... just had meat.. no veggies... I'm feeling great... Well I guess I'm rambling again... better go and get working... BBL |

Afternoon Gals!
Sorry. I've had a mad last couple of weeks! I started my Home Interior Shows, one fs goes in for his tonsilectomy, adenectomy and tubes in his ears tomorrow, so have been making sure I'm nipping any colds, etc., in the bud with him. My son came down sick with an intestinal bug last Thursday. Was up vomitting w/diarrhea and a 102 degree temp. He wound up in the shower Thursday night, then two baths on Friday to reduce his temp, then another shower on Sat/Sun and this morning, due to the diarrhea. Finally got rid of the vomitting and temp by Sat. morning and am working on getting his poor lil' tummy to cooperate so that he'll eat. Ran him in to the Doc's this morning just to make sure I was treating all major symptoms correctly and found out my daughter now has the diarrhea. The good news is that my knee seems to be healing just fine. For the most part, I am pain free. Paul might just have to take a day off tomorrow to care for the ill children while I run the one in for surgery. Hello to Kim and Dawn! Glad you two are here! Will give Kelley and Lisa some other great gals to talk to when Chelle, Jen and I are MIA. (not that that's my plan, you understand!) I am going to be doing a fruit/veggie thing for the next few days. A.) I'm tired of meat and B.) my body is craving fruit and vegetables! I'll be back on the meat fast on Friday. I've done all the "extra" challenges for this month, already. Chelle, good to see ya back, girl! Hopefully, I'll be able to check in a lot more regularly after things settle down some. The kids are on Spring Break this week. Ugh. Anyway, that's the scoop from here! Erin |

Chelle, how'd I miss your post?!? Good for you, getting that cast off! I'm glad to hear that your spirit's coming back, you know the wagon's ready for another rider.
![]() Erin, good to see you! I'm glad your knee's doing well. It sounds like you haven't had time to think about a knee, let alone breathe. Let us know how the fruit/veggie thing works out. I actually had a couple of really small key limes yesterday--they're pretty LC. Really good! I have a feeling DD will demolish them before I get off the meat fast again, but that's okay. I posted a note in the 100 lb. losers thread, finally. |

Hello again ladies! Welcome Kim-glad to have you. Good luck with your job. Swimming and Curves-your not doing too shabby!
Dawn-be careful jinxing yourself about a quiet week! Finished off the ice cream huh? I tried that bit. Got one of those small pints I believe. So much for serving sizes-I couldn't help myself. I pretty much don't let anything into the house I can't eat-I don't have willpower lately! Erin-U are alive-if those kids don't get ya we might! Glad to hear from you! You are such the busy woman!! How do you do it? Lisa-Good Luck on the run-sounds like some fun plus good for your competitive spirit! kelley-How's it going dear? Looks like you are doing fab! A little traveling sounds like fun! Where is Jenlars? I just wanted to confirm my renewed will this am. I am 215 and I only gained 2 inches in my waist in all this off the wagon turmoil. Kinda happy about that. I am doing the meat and egg fast to get into the wagon! So far so good. Eggs for breakfast, water, tuna for lunch, water, water and maybe some chicken wings for dinner. I will check in later with you gals. Keep up the good work!!!!

Hi, all--
4 miles out of the way this morning (walking) but I'm sore from yesterday's workout. It's a *good* sore, though--the kind that tells me I'm doing it right. Meat fast is on day 2.Kelley, YOUCH! I'm sorry to hear about your foot, and impressed that you aren't going to let it slow you down. Chelle, that's a good idea, not letting anything in that might pose a danger for your WOE. Strength builds slowly! Dawn, thanks for the compliment. Ya know, where we've been isn't nearly as important as where we're going, right? You're on your way, now! Kim, how'd that interview go? |

Good Morning all!
So much going on around here: Lisa - I read your 100# sticky story and it was inspiring! I get the same way, kinda weepy when I read them. I am going to put that in my goal book - to write my own sticky story at the end of the year Kim - never ending chores, yuk. I have laundry. I find that when I am stressed I sit down and make a menu for the next couple days...since I am a stress & bored eater, and it usually equals running out for something. I'm thinking good thoughts for you while you're waiting to hear back from the cafeteria. Chelle - yeah you are so close, those 2" will come off in no time. How's the meat and egg fast going?Erin - how is post-surgery doing? How is your Home Interior going? Dawn - Your goals klook good and doable. A few girlfriends all went up to my friends cabin (Thursday - Sunday) and we only got dressed once to go into town - otherwise it was all jammies, scrapbooking and movies - one of my girlfriends and I each made 250-300 cards! Now I am down to about 25 birthday cards. That was in the fall and we're talking about getting away again - it was great without kids or any responsiblities. I want to do a scrapping cruise. OK - foot is healing slowly, have to watch because of the diabetes, going to go for the pedicure I have scheduled and have them watch that area (maybe a bad idea). DH got very bad news about the job and trying to figure out what's best to do. That means extra stress around here. I am dropping DD at Nana's and meeting DH for lunch so that should be nice. This was a long one - I'll check back later. |
