Debbie posted this on the other thread

Sorry everyone... things are very sad around here again the past couple of days...

Yesterday my grandmother passed away (the one that I just went to visit for her 80th birthday). First my dh's, and now mine. "When it rains, it pours" is all I can say. She had kidney failure which led to water build up around the heart. She didn't suffer, it was quick, and for that I am thankful.

I am going to be dropping out of the challenge. There just seems to be too much 'life' stuff going on for me to focus. I'll drop by on occasion to give support and encouragement though.

Deb - I posted a reply on the other thread, but want to let you know I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother

Byn - I'm sure you read the above post - so if you could just let me know what your plans are that would be great

Looks like at the moment I'm still talking to myself.

I've been off track for 2 days on eating, not going overboard, but not on plan 100% either. I have my kung fu class today and I don't think I ever posted that I received my orange belt finally Woo-hoo!

Looks like everything is still moving forward on my condo, so this weekend I'm just going to be cleaning, sorting, throwing things out, figuring what to sell on ebay and just getting my stuffs organized and I have lots of stuff

Hope you all check in soon.

I've been thinking - since I'm beyond being on track for my weight loss this year, that it's time for me to try to up my carbs a bit and stabilize. My weight has been such and up and down thing for me since I was in my late teens. I am finding myself focused too much on the scale and it moving. So my goal for april is not to lose, but to simply maintain. if I lose some in the process that is ok, but it's not my plan. Focusing on the eating and working it as maintainence right now is going to be best so I can learn the healthy habits cause my mind set is currently that this is a diet and not a WOL. Got some changes to make, but I'm sure I can do it.

Maw - you're majorly missed!!!!

Morgan & Byn - Hope you are both doing well. Please let me know if you're going to continue the challenge - not to be mean, but I'm getting tired of talking to myself and if you're not continuing then I want to merge myself and Maw with another team. Thanks

Lasi - Hope things are getting better for you

Hey Girls,
I am finally feeling better. My dh is back home thank God. I thought that Byn was on vacation but I am not sure. Katie congrats for being way ahead of schedule! I agree that there is too much life for each of us. But after thinking about this while gaining weight on my pills and not really caring too much about things I think that I had lost focus....this is my life and I want to be around for a while! So with that said I am going to try my hardest to start over again and make things new just like the excitement in January. I have to make time for me and this is tooo important to let slip again. Thanks for listening. M

Morgan - Get on the Ball!! Lol...too good of a comment to pass up! Right now I'm waiting on final loan approval, and the wait is driving me nuts! I did test for my belt and I am now and Orange belt, and based on where I'm at in the training, I should be elegible for my purple belt in May, I could probably be ready for April, but the day of the test I will be in a seminar all day. How are things going with your DD's job? With you?

Hi Everyone! Just poking my head in to see how everyone is doing! I may not officially be doing this challenge any more, but you can't get rid of me! LOL! Guess what? I've upped my daily walking to 8km/day and the scale is FINALLY starting to come back down again! YAY! Only another 5lbs or so and I will be back down to January's weight. It feels soooo good to be back on track! Well, this is just a quick message, so I'll chat with you all more later!

I just wanted to pop in here quickly to pat myself on the back a bit. Today was my 4-year wedding anniversary, and as usual my family took us out to a fancy restraunt... well... I wanted to report that I stayed on plan! I might be a little over on salt, but other than that I'm good. That's all I wanted to say.

Yay Debbie! - Congrats on your Anniversary.

Hi Maw-Morgan-Byn-Lasi

I'm up a few lbs from siggy, but it's on it's way back down and if the diet gods hear my plea I'll be back there by mid-month stats and maybe down 5 more by end of month. I'm thinking of trying the whole foods plan - there's a thread in the main cc, I know that I lose on Atkins, and when i do my 2 week vegan trips, but I have to admit boredom is starting to settle in again . It sounds good cause I can add back in some 'good' carbs & fruit. Still not sure yet, just thinking about it.

I'm still waiting to hear about the final loan approval for the condo - the appraisal is being ordered today so thats a big Yay and step in the right direction

Gotta finish getting dressed for work - later ladies!

I'm b-a-a-a-a-c-k! Finally! It was a very long almost 3 weeks. I was glad to sleep in my very own bed in my very own house with my very own cat! And no getting up multiple times a night for bed pan duty!

I did pretty well food-wise the whole time I was gone. Ate lots of nuts (and I mean LOTS of nuts!) but other than that was fine. Except for one slip - the only slip I can recall in just over 2 years! We went out for lunch one day to a salad bar place, and we each had a big salad and a piece of quiche. I very carefully asked about what was in the quiche, and no, they didn't put flour or anything like that in it. So I had a piece, and was most of the way through it when I realized that I had been eating the crust. So I quit, of course. Not a cheat, just a small (and stupid!) slip.

I weighed myself this morning, and I gained either 2 or 3 pounds between Sunday (the day I found out that Toni died) and this morning - 1 day less than 3 weeks. I know that I was (and still am) bloated from travelling, so I feel very good about that!

I told Katie that I did ok carbwise for March, but on further consideration I was probably over my limit of an average of 40 net carbs a day. I'm not sure, since I wasn't counting carbs while I was down there, but I suspect I was probably over. I'll adjust the points somehow at the end of this month.

Food has not been great today. Not a lot of fresh stuff in the fridge after all this time, and I haven't had the energy/inclination to get to the store. Will go either this evening or tomorrow morning and then get fully back on track.

I am so glad to be back here where I belong with all you folks!

Deb - I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother! How wonderful that you were able to be there for her birthday celebration! I'm sure that meant a lot to her.

I'm sorry, too, that you are dropping out of the challenge. I agree that there's a lot of life out there trying to get in the way of eating right and doing what we need to do to take care of ourselves. Please do keep dropping in on us!

Yay!!!!!!! MAW's BACK!!!!!! HUGS! Between your time away and mine, it's been almost a month since we talked! I think that between you, Katie and I, we should be able to get the conversation picked up a bit! BTW... I bet your cat was happy to see you again as well! Oh... before I forget...

MAW... you know how you quite often used to post that you'd made pork abdobo (sp?) and that you always eat too much of it when you do make it... well... I happened to stumble across the recipe for it the other day, made it, and now understand how addictive it is... Thank goodness I have a husband who s more than willing to eat ALL the leftovers... less temptation for me!

TracieN (she ran the 12 week challenge) pm'd me and asked if The Biggest Loser Challenge was accepting new members. It's my understanding (which may be wrong) that no new members are being accepted officially. Anyone know if that's right? I was wondering, though, if she might be accepted as another unofficial member of our team. Any thoughts?

And what happened to Tarheelgurl? Is she still around?

simplemaw....yes...I will accept new members. There are teams than have less members so an addition would help balance things out. Tell TracyN to send me her info and I will get her on a team.

I'm back and rarin' to go! Dropped a pound of bloat this morning, still some bloat to go. Will go to the gym this morning. And got out my measuring pitcher so I know how much water I've been drinking!

I'm having to sort of guess at what I did the first 9 days of the month, but I think I'm erring on the side of not enough/too much, so if anything I'll have too few points. I'm figuring 100 oz of water a day (I usually drink about 200 oz), 4 walks of 20 minutes each, and 40 net carbs plus the nuts and yogurt. I'll have to really work at it to get my averages for the month back where they belong! I plugged the nuts I ate in March into fitday, and they weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be. I should be ok carb-wise for March after all. Whew!

I'm back to strict Induction today to get me back on track. Here's my menu for the day.

Breakfast - 3 eggs, 2 links sausage
Lunch - shrimp and mushroom salad (4 oz shrimp, 1 c mushrooms, 1/4 c celery, 2 T sour cream, 1 T mayo, some seasoning stuff)
Supper - 8 oz (cooked) extra lean pork spare ribs, 1 c lettuce, 2 T dressing, 1 c broccoli, 1 T butter
Snacks - 1 oz cheese before bed, probably some decaf and/or herb tea with sf syrup, no cream
NO EATING AFTER SUPPER EXCEPT THE CHEESE AND TEA!
Lots of water!
At least 30 minutes at the gym

Deb, glad you liked the adobo - and that dh was there to eat up the leftovers! I don't know what about it is so addicting, but it sure is. And yes, my cat was very glad to see me! I'm not sure about her ears - I think I'll take her in again and get them checked. She was acting like they were still bothering her a bit, but I figured that after two months of drops and goop she needed a break. She sure hates that stuff! I don't know if her ears are still bothering her or if she just likes to get her noggin rubbed.

Hope you're having a good time at your parents', Katie.

Congrats on your anniversary, Deb! And for staying on plan even when eating out!

Hope the condo goes through ok, Katie. It's nerve-wracking waiting, isn't it. How can you be bored eating Atkins? There's so much variety and so many things you can eat! Of coure, I like to cook, and I'm willing to eat leftovers, and those both help. And I'm addicted to recipes and cookbooks! I spent most of my "free" time at my aunt's going through Toni's old cookbooks - half a dozen or so dating back to the late 1800's! I think the oldest one was about 1880. And lots of cookbooks from the first half of the 1900's. Plus the usual Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks and lots of them put out by various church groups, etc. I brought back half a dozen or so of the cookbooks, and said that I wanted another half dozen or so if no one else wants them. They have Toni's mother's name or her aunt's name, so I figure that her family should have first crack at them. I also went through Toni's stash of recipes she clipped and put in the drawer and then probably never looked at again, some of them over 15 years old! And I copied lots of recipes from the cookbooks I didn't bring with me. I've got scads of great sounding low carb recipes to try now!

Deb - way to go on the exercise and the scale moving in the right direction!

Katie - congrats on the new belt!

I don't know what I'm going to do for my new exercise - and I'm the one who thought up that challenge! Of course, I don't get the points for doing it anyway, since I didn't do any new exercises the first week while I was in Tulsa. But I'm going to do something new for the rest of the weeks. I'm thinking I might try the stairmaster at the gym. Won't be doing more than a few minutes at a time on it, but I can do it. I can! I know I can! I've thought about getting one of those balls, too - the kind you sit on that's supposed to improve your balance and such like. I know some people use it at the computer. But then what would I do with the chair that's here? Unless I start getting rid of some junk, I hardly have room for new stuff.

Hi Lasi! Glad you're still here. Hope life settles down and gets better for you.

Well, that's all of this month's posts. Byn, where are you?

Have a great day, everyone!

to all.

<Waves!> Well... I've committed myself to a 'marathon walk' with my dh and now I've got to start training for it! We've found a new walking trail that is 13km in length... so far I've been walking the first 4km stretch of it (so an 8km round trip)... I've done this about 6-8 times so far, and it really is a nice easy walk. Well... DH decided to challenge me to walk it to the end and back... the full 13km (so 26km round trip)... and since I am SOOOOO competative, I was ready to take him on as soon as he said it! LOL! Now we've set the date for a month from now... so training has begun (We walked a 22km trail last summer, so we are trying to beat our personal best... but that trail was very rustic with lots of hills, root tripping, and branch scratching...) LOL! I need support girls! I'm already wondering what I've gotten myself into! LOL!

Hey girls, We are in blizzard conditions in Colorado! We could have up to 18 inches of snow. YUK. Welcome back Maw we missed you. Things are going well. I have been walking more...my dd walked with me yesterday. I don't think I will be doing it outside for the next few days though. I bought some resistance bands and have been printing out exercises to do with them. The ball is ok but I am limited to my exercises because of my current weight so I will do what I can. Congrats Katie on your belt!!!! Have you heard anything more about the loan? Maw I did find the flavored syrup in the grocery store all by myself! lol Which do you like the best? Have you tried Hazelnut? Take care. M

Morgan - I like the french vanilla in green tea, the cinnamon in cinnamon tea, and the gingerbread in gingerbread tea! Most of them all taste alike as far as I'm concerned. Congratulations on finding them all by yourself!
