February *NEW* Challenges ALL READ

Hey all, I am in the process of finalizing the NEW challenges for February. Remember that the Super Size Me movie is NO LONGER, the Donut Challenge is NO LONGER, the inspirational article is NO LONGER available for points. These were January challenges ONLY.

The inter-challenges that will be taking the place of these will be posted HERE - on THIS thread tomorrow night (2/1) in the evening (probably between 7-9p.m. EST). Please communicate this within your groups and bump this post through tomorrow at least.

Thx all, Shawn - TMTL

Oh, and my February calendar will be sent out either tonight or tomorrow (same time) - depending upon when Sweets posts the stats. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. REMEMBER, THE TOP THREE TEAMS WILL BE ON FEBRUARY'S CALENDAR - FEATURING THE FIRST PLACE TEAM ALONG WITH THE SECOND AND THIRD PLACE AS WELL. ***THE NUMBERS ARE LOOKING GOOD ALL SO GOOD LUCK***

Here we go!!!

EXERCISE

Less than 500 minutes exercise/month = -100 points
501-599 minutes of exercise/month = 35 points (avg 17 min/day)
600-749 minutes of exercise/month = 40 points (avg 20 min/day)
750-999 minutes of exercise/month = 50 points (avg 25 min/day)
1000-1149 minutes of exercise/month = 65 points (avg 33 min/day)
1150-1249 minutes of exercise/month = 80 points (avg 38 min/day)
1250-1499 minutes of exercise/month = 95 points (avg 42 min/day)
1500+ minutes of exercise per month = 120 points (avg 50 min/day)

EXERCISE is defined as: a steady paced walk increasing heart rate, jogging, exercise videos, biking, gym workout in any form (aerobically or with weights).

EXERCISE is NOT: walking around the grocery store shopping for Mary Kitchen Hash and Ladies Speed Stick, shopping at the mall, arm wrestling, vacuuming, or any other related activity. You get the point here kids.

WEIGHT LOSS

Any weight GAIN = -5 points
1-4lbs lost per month = 4 points
5lbs lost per month = 5 points
6lbs lost per month = 6 points
7lbs lost per month = 7 points
8lbs lost per month = 8 points
9lbs lost per month = 9 points
10lbs lost per month = 10 points
11lbs lost per month = 11 points
12lbs lost per month = 12 points
13lbs lost per month = 13 points
14lbs lost per month = 14 points
15+lbs lost per month = 45 points

WATER (only WATER counts! – i.e. not tea, soda, etc) consumption per month (in ounces)

1983 ounces or less = -100 points (avg less than 64 oz/day)
1984-3100 ounces = 35 points (avg 64-100 oz/day)
3101-4340 ounces = 85 points (avg 101-140 oz/day)
4341+ ounces = 150 points (avg 141oz+/day)

MEASUREMENTS – INCHES LOST

HALF-Inches lost per month ((total ONLY from waist and hips (same for both men and women)) You are encouraged to measure more body parts for your own records but just the waist and hips will count during this challenge:

Add 10 points for every HALF-inch you lose (measured monthly) – add hips and waist together for a combined total. If you choose to measure every three months, you will have to be on an individual challenge – only. All team members are expected to measure and report their results on the last day of the month. (permanent challenge)

Deduct 20 points for every HALF-inch you gain from the prior month.

Further Additions and Deductions:

Deduct 1 point for every can of diet pop that is not made with the Splenda Sweetner or another Atkins-approved sweetner. Example, saccharine is not good. (Even if it doesn’t stall you). (permanent challenge) (hint: drink Diet Rite)

Deduct 1 point for every 12oz. you drink that is not caffeine free. (permanent challenge)

Deduct 30 points for going over YOUR monthly carb intake goal at all! (permanent challenge)

Deduct 100 points for NOT reporting your stats on the 15th and last day of month. (permanent challenge)

Make a progression model of yourself using the following link. Begin with your current weight and allow the pictures to progress to your “goal weight”. I suggest creating about ten pictures (models) that show a gradual decrease in weight. This will be a visual reminder of what path you are following. Do this by February 10th, and add 100 points. If you chose NOT to do this, deduct no points, and add no points. For those of you who may not be able to create a model due to your current weight, create a progression model within the weight limit allowed by the site – to your goal weight.
http://www.myvirtualmodel.com/mvmhome/jsp/home.jsp?

Carb goal. This is different than January’s carb intake rules. For FEBRUARY, you create a DAILY carb intake goal that you may NOT exceed. For example, Floyd Pink has a daily carb intake goal of 20 grams and he only eats 14 for the day. The following day, he is NOT allowed to eat 26 but instead, only his daily maximum carb intake goal of 20. IF his number (20) is exceeded by ANY amount, you must do any one of the following “penances”:
· Do 50 pushups that will NOT count towards your exercise for the day. –or-
· Listen to a song called “I’m Not Okay” by a band called “My Chemical Romance”. This sort of describes how carbs make you feel. Pretty easy but definetly a good reminder. A fun way of reminding yourself of evil carbs! There are many music websites on the internet. You have a choice this way….
Bottom line is - If you don't play the card, you won't get burned. I.E. stay at or under your daily carb goal. If you DO go over your daily carb goal and do either "penance", or simply stay under your daily carb goal, add 55 points.

Increased exercise goal: Increase your exercise amount from January’s amount by at LEAST 10% and add 40 points. For example, Dink Winkerson did 1000 minutes of exercise for January. In order to get these points, Dink would need to do at least 1100 for the points – not to mention that he may have been able to get himself into the higher exercise points bracket.

Shawn? Maybe I'm being dense, but the way I read this it sounds as if you go over your daily CC every day you can rack up 55 pts. each day? And if you stay at/under your carb count you get no points? Even if pts. are awarded for "penance" just the once, you still can rack up an additional 55 pts. for going over, so pt.-wise it makes more sense to go over one time than to stick with your carb count. Clarify, please? Not tryin' to be a PITA (pain in the "arse")

Shawn,
I don't mean to be a pain but I went to that site to create my virtual models and I was told 'your browser is not supported'. I run safari on a Mac. Is there another challenge that doesn't require running on a PC or am I just out 100 points?

Just sticking my nose in. The way I read it is this. During January you weren't allowed to go over you carb goal for the month. You had your daily limitX31 days. If you went over then you were penalized. So say your limit was 20 carbs if one day you ate 4 carbs you could conceivably eat 36 the next day and it evened out. Same as if you ate 36 one day if you gleaned back and just ate 4 the next day it all worked out in the end. This time you have a stated daily limit. You must not go over this limit any day. If you do you must do pennance for it.You get 55 points at the end of the month if you a) Stay at or under your carb intake per day every day for the month or b) Go over your level and do pennance. (IMHO the problem with this is you can go over your carb level every day and as long as you have done pennance you're covered-I'm thinking having to do it for every time you go over would make it more a deterent?? Point being if you go over your limit one day and don't do pennance....no points at the end of the month for you at all.

Hope that cleared up your question.....but now it's raised another *sigh*

I am up for the Challange. But I have a question. How do you make more than one model at a time without having to make a new identy every time?

ANSWER: AS FAR AS I KNOW, YOU CAN’T. IF IT CAN BE DONE, SOMEONE PLEASE POST THAT HERE.

Do we report the daily carb limit to Wendy, too?

ANSWER: IF WENDY WANTS EVERONE TO DO THAT, SHE WILL CREATE A POST WITH THAT REQUEST. OTHERWISE, YOU ARE ON THE HONOR SYSTEM.
maw

ANSWER: HERE IS THE DEAL: DAILY CARB INTAKE GOAL IS SAY 20. IF YOU STAY UNDER THAT, YOU ARE FINE. IF YOU GO OVER THAT (REMEMBER NO CARRY OVER TO THE NEXT DAYS) YOU ARE PENALIZED AND MUST DO EITHER THE PUSHUPS OR THE SONG AS A PENANCE/PENALTY. IF FOR EACH TIME (HOPEFULLY NONE OBVIOUSLY), YOU DO GO OVER YOUR DAILY CARB INTAKE LEVEL, AND YOU DO THE SONG OR PUSHUPS FOR EACH OCCURANCE, YOU GET 55PTS AT THE END OF THE MONTH. IF YOU DON’T GO OVER THE CARBS – EVER, YOU WON’T GET PENALIZED THUS YOU AUTOMATICALLY GET 55 POINTS IN THIS CATEGORY – ALTHOUGH MAYBE YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THE SONG JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE ONLY. MY POINT IS THAT THERE IS RECOGNITION TO YOUR “SLIP UP” IN THE EVENT THERE IS ONE. EASY POINTS HERE FOR THOSE WHO DON’T SLIP UP AT ALL OR FOR THOSE WHO RECOGNIZE THEIR MISTAKE AND COMPLETE A PENANCE - FOR EACH DAY THEY WENT OVER.

Shawn,
I don't mean to be a pain but I went to that site to create my virtual models and I was told 'your browser is not supported'. I run safari on a Mac. Is there another challenge that doesn't require running on a PC or am I just out 100 points?

ANSWER: NO YOU ARE NOT OUT 100 POINTS. I REALLY DON’T CARE WHO CREATES THE MODEL FOR YOU (IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO SO). AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A PROGRESSION MODEL MADE IN THE TIMEFRAME PER THE CHALLENGE, YOU WILL GET THE POINTS. JUST ASK A TEAMMATE AND THEY WOULD MOST ASSUREDLY HELP YOU WITH IT.

ANSWER: FOR EACH TIME YOU GO OVER YOUR DAILY CARB INTAKE GOAL, A PENANCE NEEDS TO BE DONE. IF EVERYDAY OF FEBRUARY YOU WENT OVER YOUR GOAL, YOU BETTER HAVE DONE 28 PENANCES OF YOUR CHOICE TO GET THE POINTS. NOW, IF YOU NEVER WENT OVER YOUR DAILY GOAL, YOU AUTOMATICALLY GET THE POINTS. SO YES, YOUR THINKING IS CORRECT – PLUS DON’T FORGET THAT THE MONTHLY CARB GOAL IS STILL IN EFFECT FOR FEBRUARY AND ALL MONTHS SO THIS PORTION OF THE CHALLENGE IS STEADY THROUGHOUT... SO, YES, THIS SHOULD DEFINETLY ACT AS A DETERRENT ESPECIALLY IF FOLKS ARE FORCING THEMSELVES TO DO THE PUSHUPS EACH TIME THEY VIOLATE THEIR PRESET DAILY CARB INTAKE GOAL.

Point being if you go over your limit one day and don't do pennance....no points at the end of the month for you at all.

ANSWER: YEP, EXACTLY – SPECIFICALLY IN THIS CATEGORY OF 55 POINTS. YOU STILL MAY HAVE BEEN UNDER YOUR TOTAL MONTHLY INTAKE HOWEVER. THAT IS WHY I SAID “IF YOU DON’T PLAY THE CARD, YOU WON’T GET BURNED”.

GOOD QUESTIONS YOU GUYS. I HOPE THIS CLEARS EVERYTHING UP NOW. -SHAWN

I got a question

Shawn,
Just wondering about the virtual model thing.... do we make the models and then post them like Wendy did in order to get the points? Does someone have to check it out to be sure we did it?
And how do we get that model thing like Wendy did?

Sorry that was more than one question...LOL
