Good morning everyone-
Wondering if y'all want to set individual goals of things you'd like to achieve this week. Here are mine: Water intake: 173 oz. per day Exercise: Bike- 30 mins. day, increase by 5 mins. every day, WATP 2mile every day Carbs: 20 grams, no net Fat intake: roughly 44-50% of daily caloric intake. I want to see if that helps things move any faster. If it doesn't I will go back to 70% or so next week. Strict induction, no "extras." On a good note, I am 341.6 this morning....if memory serves me correctly. Sometimes I find that I don't remember the XXX.? part of it but remember the .? part just fine. Does that make sense? Hope y'all have a productive day today and stay focused. Ciao |

Good morning! Thanks, Erin, for starting the new thread.
I'm gonna shoot for 192 ounces on water this week, *in addition* to anything else I drink. Cardio--I haven't decided on that, yet, but have been trying to increase cardio each session; it depends on the type of cardio. I'll be walking outside again today, and will shoot for 3 miles. Regular workout--well, that stays the same for another week; our routine changes every four weeks. I always push to do heavier weights. Food? Well... dunno. I'm starting off the week slightly up in carbs, trying to get lots of fiber in. I'm also juggling some new supplements in to see what effect they have. It was a good, productive weekend, but I'm up in water weight. I watched everything I should be watching. I didn't get all my water in yesterday, but did the previous days, and the water weight had already been creeping up. I am going to call the doc today and set up an appointment. I hope everyone has a kick-butt day!

Just spent an hour racing our quad on the pond and around the property. Took the boys for a couple of sedate rides around, too. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it as an activity anywhere on FitDay. I figure the closest I can get is Motocross, which gives me 287 calories burned in an hour. Trying to figure out if Motocross people do a whole lot more with a dirtbike as opposed to quad riders? Anyone know?
Chelle- Where are you? Come on girlie, girl...post. Kelley- How are you doing today? Jen- You have GOT to come back from DW! We miss you! On a good note, we heard from our adoption worker today and she says it should be finalized within a couple of months. |

post-ho Erin you crack me up. Well guys I just want to be honest I think I am the slacker of the team. Food wise I haven't completely fallen off the wagon but water is so so and excercise is...........<cricket chirp>. I just lost my mojo for a few days. I am feeling better this evening. I cleaned the entire house and I am drinking my water. Right now I am searching through the inspirationals. I am such a good talker but I think I am a hypocrite. I was getting a little down about not losing anything. I printed out a calendar and put my weights, how many pounds and inches lost, etc. I feel better after analyzing it. I lost 7lbs the first week and then 2 pounds every week since. I know I didn't put the weight on overnight, I should focus on the healthy me part. A slow ride is better than no ride. Besides it gives my skin time to adjust so my stomache won't hang down to my ankles . OK well tomorrow is a new day and I will do my excercise and drink my water!!!!!!!!Sorry team ![]()

Sung to the tune of, "Do your ears hang down?"
" Does your stomach hang down? Does your belly wear a frown? Can you spin it 'round your spine While looking like a clown? Can you toss it o'er yer shoulder? And catch it on the way down? Does your stomach...hang down?" Honestly, Chelle....don't think you're a slacker. Keep in mind that many folks run into some kind of a stall when they hit that 3rd week. Technically, all the "experts" say you can only expect to lose around 2 lbs. a week.....you've pretty much doubled that. Even if you only lose 2 lbs. a week for the next 48 weeks, that is 98 lbs. by the end of this challenge....hmmm....219 minus 98....that'll put you at 121 by December 31st? Is THAT something you can look forward to? Buck up there soldier! Drink that water! Get on with that exercise! Find things to keep you motivated. Post when you're having problems....struggles. We can't help keep your eyes on the prize if we don't know what's going on. You are going to be absolutely drop dead gorgeous by the end of this year! You are the only one that can stop you. Don't wind up next January where I was THIS January. "If only I had kept with it, I might be X number of lbs. by now." You'll just wind up feeling guilty and discouraged and trust me, it's not worth it.On another note....my DD was up all night....hence, keeping me awake because she was in her room talking to herself. I finally got out of bed at 1a.m. and told her if she didn't shush up and go to sleep I was going to be REALLY angry. She got up at 5 a.m. this morning and set off the alarm on her door. (Had to put a doorstop alarm in as she used to get up and watch movies, cut her hair, eat all the cookies in the house, scrape frosting off of cake, throw salt and pepper all over the kitchen, etc.) She decided it was time to get up. *sigh* Needless to say, I'm feelin' pretty poopy right now due to lack of sleep and I have that doctor's appointment today. I was hoping to be well-rested, bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed this morning. Instead I am exhausted, dull-eyed and droopin' tail. On top of things, when I don't get all the sleep I need, I tend to retain water...so am still at 341.6 this morning. Awww, fiddlesticks!!!Jen- Hope you're enjoying DW.....can't wait for you to get back and let us know how it went. Kelley- Hope you post again sometime..... Lisa- Did you make that Dr.'s appointment? Toodles, not noodles..... *eta----I really AM tired...had posted p.m. instead of a.m. Carry on. Last edited by No-C : 01-25-2005 at 06:20 AM. |

I'm here!
I made the doctor's appointment; it's for Thursday morning. I'm gonna get my cholesterol test done, and for the first time, thyroid. IMO, that one's way overdue, and should have been done years ago. I expect a little bit of a fight over it, but I'm in a mood for a rumble. I did get exercise in, but not as much as I wanted. I walked outside for 1/2 hour, and intended to do an hour. We worked out last night; upper body. I did cardio first thing this morning; 15 minutes on the elliptical, 2 miles on the treadmill at 3.5 mph. DH and I are going in for a second round of cardio tonight; I'm hoping we swim. Water's down this morning, somewhat. I've been taking taurine and uva ursi, as well as sucking down the water and lots of tea, so perhaps that's helping. Chelle, these are the times when you have to really be prepared, because your resistence will be low. Yep, you've hit that notorious 3rd week post-induction stall; and gal, it may well go into a 4th week. Even though it may not show on the scale right now, *great things* are going on inside your body. It's learning how to cope with what you've thrown at it; it's adjusting to working on a different fuel source (pretty major, when you think about it!), and getting detoxed. The best thing you can do to help your body through this transition is to keep on keepin' on. Find a reward for a short goal, and work toward it; your goal doesn't have to be weight related. Promise yourself something special (not food) if you get all your food/water/exercise goals met for this week. And hey, 2 pounds is absolutely *normal* and *healthy* weight loss! Trust me, Chelle, I wish I was losing an average of 2 pounds a week! So chin up and keep posting, gal! Erin, you HO! As far as FitDay and the quad (ATV?) goes, I'd just go with as close as you can. You probably work as hard on an ATV as a dirt bike! I'd be hanging on for dear life!Jen, Kelley, we're thinking of ya! |

Go Chelle, go Chelle, Go Michelle!
Alright, honestly girls, I've been doing housework since 8:00 a.m. I am a mess. Sweat pourin' off me....yEEuck! I'm talkin' movin' furniture, dusting from the ceilings down, vacuuming, vacuuming with that little sucky thing...what's it called...crevice tool. I'm in the middle of re-arranging the boys room. Honestly! Three boys, one of which has been learning how to be a neat-freak like Momma....the other two, who have been here for six going on seven months are little piggies. Dirty, disgusting socks underneath their bed, clothes all over the room....closet a mess because they just don't care to put things in the hamper, or pick up the clothes that fall off their hangers when they are getting dressed in the morning. Ugh! I KNOW that they are "just bein' boys," however, we're been tryin' to teach them the basics and they're just not gettin' it. There have been rules since they came and sometimes they obey them, but oftentimes not. *sigh* *sigh* Still haven't had anything to eat this morning. I'm tryin' to hold off so if the Doctor orders blood tests...i.e. cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, etc., I can go ahead and get them done today. Wonder what 2 1/2 hours of housework will net me activity-wise. Though I don't count it as exercise for the challenge, I am very interested in how many calories I've been burning off. Anal? Yep, d'at's me! Keep chuggin' that water, Chelle! ![]() *edited to add....no, I'm not JUST vacuuming with the lil' sucky thing.....that is in addition to the "regular" vacuuming. ![]() Last edited by No-C : 01-25-2005 at 08:49 AM. |

Erin we must have been bit by the same bug. I was on my hands and knees cleaning the crevices under the cupboards on the floor when dh awoke today. I have energy today
I hope so. That made me smile. Let us know what the dr. runs. I hear you about dirty piggies. My dd is 8 and has no concept of neat and orderly. I find all kinds of things in her room-science projects Lisa-cut your workout short this am, I am sure you will make up for it. I hope the water is going down. Sounds pretty encouraging with the supplements. Swim-I would love to swim. My favorite-minus the bathing suit of course . Does thyroid run in your family? It does in mine. I am one of 4 sisters and 2 have the other 2 don't. My mom is hypo too. I checked mine, the only one with a weight problem and of course mine was normal Good though, I don't have to take medicine every day and get poked every few months. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I knew this would happen I have read it all over this forum yet it did a number on my brain. I am going to keep truckin'. Hello Kelley-hope you had a nice weekend! Jen-How was Disney please tell!!!! For accountability I have drank 57 oz of water so far, did WATP and pilates today. food: B-2 eggs friend in bacon grease, 4 bacon slices (my fav) L-bacon and chicken salad D-Linda's parmesan chicken ll(it's really good) Okay team let's do this! I am off to feed the twins. I am hoping to find time to maybe squeeze in a 1 mile WATP tonight. Wish me luck!!!! |

Lisa- I have NO idea how I missed your post earlier. Hmmmmm, must have been inadvertently sleeping. Glad to hear that you're seeing the doctor on Thursday and getting cholesterol and thyroid checked. I saw my dr. today and he wrote labs for me for both of those, too. I am also getting estrogen checked as well, plus other things which I can't remember off the bat what they are. Yep, quad and ATV are the same thing. Yep, I be da post ho....ahunh, ahunh.
Chelle- If we were bitten by the same bug take it back!!!! I wound up cleaning the house for practically 4 hours this morning, give or take the 10 minutes it took me to post and browse the boards for a quick see! Beat, yep. On top of that, I didn't eat all morning/afternoon and JUST sat down and had 2 chicken breast w/2 TB of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, plus a diet soda. I've only consumed 80 oz. of water today and technically have about 100 more ozs. to go! YIKES! No biking or WATP as of yet. I'm hoping to get 1/2 hr. at the least in on the bike still tonight. Ya know your DH patted ya twice just to cop one, right? Chelle, ya must love that bacon, huh? Where's your veggies? I know, I know, I'm not one to talk about 'em today what with what I've had.....I absolutely LOVE my doctor! I ran into him last year while on Atkins and having to go to the ER for acute bronchitis. He just happened to be the physician on call. Absolutely LOVED the man! He had said that it was a good thing I had gone in because I was about a hairsbreadth from turning into pneumonia. Gave me a prescription sleeping pill so I could sleep the night, steroids to dry up the mucuous, and a breathing treatment. His bedside manner was the TOP. I've NEVER had a doctor that cared that much. Well, fast forward a year...I had looked to see if he was a provider with our insurance and he never was....then when I started fostering I found out he took state medicaid which all the kids have and started taking them to him. THEN I found out that he is finally a provider and there ya go....my new DOC! He is TOTALLY supportive of Atkins. Told me to let him know when I wanted to increase carbs and he'd work with me. He said that the majority of folks increase carbs to quickly and that is why they gain weight back. He said we need to increase the carbs slowly over a course of a couple of months. So...I told him that at the VERY least I was going to do induction for six months and I would keep him posted. So, yippee! An Atkins friendly doctor! How cool is that? Kelley- Ya know if ya don't get in here and post I'm gonna start up with that Kelley, Kelley, bo-belly thing again, doncha? Jen- Okay, quit playin' kissy face with the mouse and get back to us! We miss ya, bunches! Taters, tots! |

Just got bit by the biggest mosquito I've seen in a long time. She was a phlebotomy student from the local college.
Didn't notice that until AFTER she had asked me if anyone's ever had problems drawing blood and I told her, "Not unless they're new at it." *sigh* Needless to say she missed the vein and kept the stinkin' needle in there pokin' around for it. Finally, whomever was supervising her felt my arm, took the thing from her and poked me with one try. My arm is sore now and I have a feeling it's going to have a humongous bruise in a little while. *sigh* I think that a lot of these people assume that when you are fat, they won't be able to find a vein. Not to say that it may be hard in some, but just another case where folks are quick to judge. I see I'm still the post 'ho..... |

Good morning ladies,
I am not sure if I have the bug or not. I just got up. I think I'll take it easy though. TOM! (is that right, what do the initials stand for exactly?) is here and I have to work tonight. I am glad you LOVE your doc. I don't have one anymore. The one I had was a young lady doc. I called to make an appt and they said she was no longer with the clinic. So I am hanging out in la la land until something comes up. I am thinking about going with a local nurse practitioner. I can't believe your doc is Atkins friendly! That is VERY COOL Definetly a big encouragement. Sounds like you had quite a spell with that bronchitis. Pneumonia is not fun. I've seen quite a few kids in the hospital with that (including myself as a child). Very rough on adults too.I wanted to post again yesterday but by the time I was ready dh was home and hogging the puter . Water was good. I even did WATP 1 mile last night in addition to the 2 mile in the morning and I did pilates. I ate everything like I planned. As far as veggies I had 2 cup lettuce, 2 oz. of cucumber, and 1 cup of green beans. I think I had a super day. Oh by the way my weight was down another pound to 218 this am. Well I am off to chug water, feed babies and EXCERCISE! Lisa how's the water weight doing? Feeling up to the excercise? What did the doc say? By the way is your doc Atkins friendly or do you just not mention it? Just curious. I think we are going to have to start bribing people to post here.................how about......."a new car"(it works on The Price Is Right) Hope everyone has a wonderful fat burning day!!!! |

By the way did I mention I love bacon <snort> 9 slices yesterday between breakfast and my afternoon salad!
How much is the norm for sodium intake? What's too much? Just curious. Erin I forgot to tell you, keep your chin up! Even though you didn't have a great day food/water wise think about all the excercise you did-that was awesome. I don't care what this challenge says, if you are sweating like a pig cleaning it should count! ![]() |

Whatever cleaning bug bit the two of you, KEEP IT! Cleaning is against my religion.
(Although, honestly, I did go on a jag last weekend and bagged up 3 more bags of clothes to give away.)Michelle, you're gonna have to find what your body will bear when it comes to sodium. Mine is really sensitive to it; and I looooove salt. If you drink lots of water with it, it does help. The only way you'll really know if you're taking in too much sodium for your body is to watch how your body responds to it. I love bacon, too! TOM stands for "time of month". I'd never heard it referred to as TOM until I came to this forum. The code word around our house is "the cardinal". Your day sounded great, Michelle! Keep up the good work! Erin, your doctor sounds wonderful!!! I know what you mean about the voodoo bit with taking blood. I once had it taken from an artery because they couldn't get a vein. Argh! Since then, I always tell them up front that they need to give me someone who can really find veins. It'll be interesting to see tomorrow if it's any easier to find one with weight off. My doctor is sorta-kinda Atkins friendly. A friend of mine that uses him was criticized for going on Atkins; my mother sees him, and he never said anything to her about it. He's also never said anything to me. He knows, though. He has been impressed that my mother's cholesterol numbers went down about 60 points thanks for Atkins. For the most part, he's an easy going sort, and I like him, but sometimes he'd rather blame genetics or whatever's convenient than to look to the root of a problem. I've gone to him for years, and I've reported countless symptoms of thyroid, and he's never bothered to test. Heck, last year was the first time I'd ever had my cholesterol checked; and I asked for it. I think he could do better, but also think he could do worse. We'll see what tomorrow holds. I'm also requesting an estrogen test. Many of the symptoms I've been exhibiting have also been for estrogen dominance, especially the water weight gain, bad TOM, sensitivity to salt, etc. ED shares a lot of similar symptoms to hypothyroid. Even if I don't have any of this stuff, I'll feel better knowing. Jen, need a mouse trap? ![]() |

Buwha, ha, ha, ha! Unfortunately, it's not against mine, Lisa. Can't be, what with 3 boys, a girl and five dogs, not to mention that incredibly awesome DH of mine. Quote:
I'm getting the estrogen and thyroid tested because I brought up the possibility of having PCOS. None of my other doctors had ever mentioned it, but then again, I don't usually see doctors on a consistent basis, either. Neither do I remember everything I want to discuss with them. Guess I'm just ready to take control of my health now. Prior, as long as I wasn't experiencing problems, I was good with it. Now that I'm just slightly under a year from 40 I'm becoming pro-active. Chelle- Quote:
I'm not much of a bacon freak. About 4 slices max is my limit. Too salty for me. I NEVER cook with salt and don't often use table salt to improve flavor. Guess I'm the odd one here.Quote:
Got my hair cut this morning and I'm SERIOUSLY considering coloring it now. Kept seein' Capook's avatar and finally pm'd her and told her I loved her hair and she emailed me her pic. Took it in to my stylist and she went to town on me. Now to get back to the exercise and water. |

Erin, if you didn't clean with that crowd, you'd probably have to call HazMat! With just the three of us here, and being gone most of the time, things don't get too messy. Until summer, that is, when all of us are home.
