Well, Good Morning ladies!
We had a little snow last night but it is bright and sunny out now

Kim - hope you had a great night. Feels weird without the kids around though huh? It is sooo nice to get a break once in awhile.

Amber - Hope you caught up on all that homework or if you didn't, you don't get called on

Stacy - did you have a good day yetserday? Hope it was low carb and that you got your water and exercise in.

Shawna - I can't wait to hear what the personal trainer is going to put you through today

As for me, I haven't figured out my menu yet. I just got up It's a holiday here. The biggest task I need to tackle this morning is getting my DS to work on the communication badge. He's gonna want to do that on his day off huh?

I'll check back in later with my menu.

ETA:
Kim - I forgot you asked a question regarding a problem you are having with BMs. Are you getting enough fresh veggies? If yes, for me, I have hot water with 1/2 a lemon squeezed in it in the morning. I am soon in the bathroom. I have heard some say 1 bit of SF candy has them in the bathroom. I can't think of anything else right now. Maybe Shawna will have some suggestions being a nurse and all.

Shawna - Yesterday you suggested something like each of us periodically posting a tried and true recipe and an article. I think this is a great idea. I would like us to consider a separate thread for the recipes so the all end up in one thread. I know it will periodically drop off the end of the page but we can always search for it and pull it up again. What do you think?

That's it for now. Gotta make my coffee

-Karen

Gooooooood Mornin' ladies. It's time to RISE AND SHINE! RISE AND SHINE! It's a beautimous day here in Lowcarbville, with lots of exercise and low carb food in the forecast.

I woke up feeling tons better. I'm guessing the two days on antibiotics might have something to do with that. See I knew not taking them when I had my wisdom tooth pulled would be a good thing. Speaking of, let me get those down really quick. k Done....two more doses throughout the day. I have a busy day planned for today. Tons of schoolwork to get done, an appointment at the gym, kitchen HAS to be done today or I'll pull my hair out, and my son has a boyscout meeting I have to run him to. Oh yeah forgot to mention my favorite thing. I have to make a trip to Wal-Mart. Man I hate going up there! I am wondering if I will ever get to the point that I don't dread walking in that store? I'm seriously doubting it. I'm so about David. He called me after work yesterday. We talked awhile. I asked him if he had thought about me this weekend and he told me that yeah he had. He was sorry but his weekends are super busy at work and he went out Saturday night with a friend (male). He talked to me from the time he walked out the door at work until he drove up to his house. He had some things he said he needed to carry in, but said he would call back later. He did not! I SO HATE THAT! Don't tell me you are going to call me and don't. Just don't say anything. I also asked when we would reschedule our date. He told me that it would be awhile because there were some things financially he needed to take care of in regards to his vehicle and upgrading his cell phone. I honestly don't know how to take that. Anywho, I am not going to stress over this or let it eat at me. Although it could eat at me and take these pounds off I keep fluctuating with.

karen: Glad to see you up bright and early. Way to go on passing up the cinnamon bread! You are the shiznit girl!!! You owe me exercise today. Don't you dare be forgetting it! I'm liking the recipe thread. Wonder though if we should make it one with a title like '05 Biggest Loser Tried and True Recipes....or Team Success's Tried and True Recipes??? We need a vote chiclettes! Way to be proactive! Keep up the hard work.

kim: That cake will be gone in no time and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you survived temptation and WON! Kick that glute baby! Awesome job on the 50 minutes on the treadmill!!! Bet you never thought you would be doing that on a night of vacation without the kids! Glad you enjoyed your night of freedom. They are wonderful. I never know what to do with myself the nights my kids are gone. I end up just vegging and not being productive at all.

Good morning Stacy and Amber when you check in with us. Amber I will be sending you a pm.

continue on with your low carb kick ass day!

OK, I think I have figured out my food for the day.
B: eggs, bacon, coffee
L: Leftover veggie and ham cassarole
D: pork chops with blue cheese sauce and green beans

100 oz of water

40 mins of exercise

I'll checkin again later.

Shawna, I am sooo glad you are feeling better. Ya know, the docs give you meds for a reason

On the Dave front, just let him go. Maybe you should take this time to just focus on you and what you want in life. If that includes a man (which it probably does), then write down the characteristics of your ideal man. DO NOT date anyone that does not match your ideal profile. Just a thought. I'm glad you're not stressing over Dave though.

Alright ladies... off to fight with DS over scouts, again Ya know you think he would appreciate the fact that he is going to Iceland with his troop for 10 days this summer but nooooo UGH!!!

Boy it is quite in here today. My day was bad I just hate it when people argue and that is what is going on with a commitee I am on at the school. Positions were being changed around on this commitee and one lady did not like it at all so she quit the commitee. I don't understand people sometimes, but then guess I don't have to understand them AL THE TIME...lol so today was stressful. So now tonight I am going to work on somethings I have been putting off. Maybe since I am upset about today I will get it done faster...lol

Shawna - Glad you are feeling better I agree with Karen on the Dave front.

Karen - ICELAND!!! Do you get to go too? He will have to take pictures so you can post them for us to see. I hope he has his work done by now

Okay, so I'm here. I had so many errands to run today and am just getting online. I got all your PMs and I agree with you all that this is a fabulous group!

I don't have much time to post but I will be back later with a full update. I hope you all are having a great day and I too want to hear about the meeting with the PT Shawna.

Are you around Stacy? Did you have the privilege of not checking in and seeing/hearing all the weekend drama?

I too hate when people say they are going to call and don't - he should just be honest with you so that you know where to take it. I agree that you should write a list of your ideals in a man and look for Mr. Perfect. You deserve to find him!

Okay where to start.......!

kim: No stressing on the committee crap. You can please some of the people some of the time but you for dang sure will not please all of the people all of the time. That is what compromise is all about. Give a little and take a little! Don't let it get you down though. I have the most wicked quote.
Quote:
Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere!
amber: YAY! Glad to see you here and posting. I agree we are SPLENTABULOUS!! Girl my life is never complete without a little chaos. I agree...just poo or get off the pot. Stop meandering. SHEESH!

That said........PT appointment!
The woman tried to kill me! It was awesome!! She worked me like I have never been worked before! God that sounded kinky. What I mean is. She changed every setting on every machine some of the weights too. Added some exercises. Informed me I need to vary my cardio from airdyne bike, treadmill, laps around the inside track of the gym, and a water aerobics class. On the airdyne she wants me to do it in 4 minute intervals with 2 weight machines/exercises (as some machines count as two exercises) between intervals. The 4 minute intervals are to include 1 minute of regular pace-30 seconds full out-1 minute regular pace-30 second full out-1 minute regular pace move on to the weight machines. Going to try this and see how it goes. She also wants me to start adding fruit to my diet. I will be going up to 40-50 carbs per day in February. I'm thinking I've gotten too used to 20 carbs and my body needs a kick. I was able to stuff myself full of all sorts of crap and maintain. I was then able to gorge and start gaining back. So I am sure some good healthy complex carbs will be a good thing. Going to keep the water consumption at 150 oz, but get to include decaf tea and coffee. God I never knew I would miss coffee. Well there you go chicas! Your fearless leader made it!

You ladies keep on with your own low carb kick glute day!

See that's the kind of trainer that I want - one that will work me until I drop. Have you ever taken a water aerobics course before? I haven't and for some reason I'm scared to. I don't know why. I guess it's that dreaded bathing suit thing.

No girl but I have watched one. It looks pretty intense. It's taught by men though and I do so hate being in a swimsuit in front of men. I'm cool as long as I am in the water with them, but walking around the pool and getting in in front of them.....*shudder* I will do this though! Another thing to face that I dread. Another thing to push and strive for. I personally think that everyone should step out of their comfort zones because when you do you are at your best. You put yourself out there for the world to dissect and you can't hide. You must be full on honest with yourself. I am doing this. Just like running in the park the other day. If I can do it. You can do it! Let's do it together!

You guys are great! Really, I mean it. i want to get to the point where I want something like that but I am just not motivated enough yet. I like my 5 mile walks but I REALLY don't like the gym and all that equipment. I have tried it a couple of times and never stick with it. I think it is the whole get in the car and go exercise thing. Much easier to just go out the door and walk (except when it is bitter cold like today).

Kim, change is hard for a lot of people. I am one of them. I really resist change. I don't think a change in committee members would bother me too much but I am sure that type of change severely bothers other. In the end though, they will get used to it and be glad for the change.

Hoping Stacy drops in later today. Glad to see everyone's day wasn't so busy that they couldn't drop by I know for me at least, it's hard sometimes.

Oh, I haven't made dinner yet... yes I'm whining... no I don't want to cook... yes I want take out but can't figure out what. Can you tell it's TOM I just want DH to run the house for a couple of days but alas, he has to work... oh well...

Karen - a five mile walk is impressive. I guess I just want the harder faster work out because if I'm circling my neighborhood I'm too tempted to walk my fat butt back inside!

Shawna - does you gym have an indoor pool or a heated pool? Let me know when you take a water aerobics class becuase you might inspire me to give it a go as well. I think we have two taught a day at my gym, in an outdoor heated pool, and some are taught by women and some men. I think I'd feel equally bad walking into the pool with both the skinny woman and the inshape guy. Oh well.

Amber

Oh, I too am trying to figure out dinner. I'm so tired of food these days.

Oh, I wanted to put in my 2 cents about the motivational post or recipe post. I think it should be posted here and then if someone wants to put it in another tread we can do that as well. I just know I don't have much time to search too many extra treads to find the posts so if they are here we will all see them in our daily reading. But I do like the idea of them being all grouped together for our referrence back later. Was that too confusing?

Shawna - Glad it went well with the trainer My DH and I are still trying to decide if we want to join the Y. I am satisfied with the treadmill for now, it would be nice to to water areobics. That really melts the inches off that body.

Amber - nope that wasn't too confussing. I was thinking the same thing. My schedule is getting busier and it would be nicer just to have it here. That way we can cut and paste and put into word if we like the recipe...does that make sense...LOL I am tired!!

Karen - Thanks for the encouragement about today. It is hard becuase there are only 7 of us on the committee so most of us are good friends...it is sad to see this lady hurting over it. Did you ds get his work done?

Well ladies this will prob. be my last post for the day so here is my info.

food:
B: califlower bake
L: 3 cabbage rolls
D: 1 sl. meatloaf and 1/2 cup califlower bake
water 154 oz
Exercise: Will do before bed...aiming for 50 min again...hoping the kids will let me...lol

Kim - that's what I do too - when I see a recipe posted that sounds good I cut and paste it into my word document that I have titled "recipes". Every now and then I print it out and keep it in the kitchen.

When I am in here posting a lot you all should know its because I am procrastinating. I have a brief to write and am putting it off. The deadline is Saturday before midnight and I'm seriously taking my time....

Amber!
Brief? Satuday? Get goin' girl (I grew up with a bunch of lawyers ) No excuses. But you know that right? I'm really glad you took a break and celebrated this weekend.

Anyway, sounds like there is a sort of consensus to post inspiration/informative posts/articles and recipes in-line. I'm with that.

I sneak out a bit and you guys become post ho's! What's up with that? Just kidding. I love coming in and finding that you guys had tons to say. I went out to eat with the kids. I didn't want to cook. I'm exhausted. My obliques and my quadriceps are killing me! She really put a hurting on me! I can tell this is going to make a huge difference in my outlook at the gym. You know I used to be the same way about the gym until I realized that that was my me time. It's when I do my thinking and I get away from my kids. I love to look in those mirrors and watch my body change. I love to feel the muscles building in my body. I wanna talk to you a bit about a 5 mile walk. Distance is not key in burning fat. Getting your heart rate up is. You can walk 5 miles and not even break a sweat. I want to ask that everyone do some form of cardio for 4 days this week. Cardio is walking at a brisk pace (3-4mph). Cardio is bicycling, swimming laps continuously, elliptical, and things of that nature that get your heart rate up. I might also recommend you do interval cardio. It burns the most fat. It's where you cycle the intensity of your cardio. Such as what they want me to do on the airdyne bike. Warmup-as fast as you can-cool down and repeat. I wouldn't give up my gym for anything. I think once you get there and they show you how everything works, you are no longer intimidated by the machines, and you can see the difference in how your body looks and works you would like it too. It's an awesome feeling when you get done. It's an endorphine high!

karen: Did you exercise today??? You are doing wonderful on the food and water front, but you have to exercise to make it work. Believe me.....I know!

amber: Procrastination is something I know tons about. I seem to do so well under pressure. I wait until the last minute. I have a 2 page paper to write, a test to study for, a story to read, and all of my stuff to get organized for school. Due wednesday! I've had all week to do it and have I?? NO! Got to work on that!

kim: Don't hope! Make it happen and DO IT!!! Everything looked good! Join the Y girl. You have nothing to lose but weight.

continue on with your low carb glute kickin' selves......

Going to post my favorite low carb recipe!

SEASONING FOR TACOS (FROM TASTE OF HOME MAGAZINE)
1 t. chili powder
3/4 t. paprika
3/4 t. cumin
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. salt
3/8 t. garlic powder
pinch cayenne
Combine and add to 1 pound browned and drained hamburger. Add a little water, if desired. This will be drier than taco meat made with a commercial mix due to the lack of thickeners. It tastes just as good as the store bought kind and is a lot cheaper to make. Makes enough for 1 lb. hamburger (4.5 carbs for the whole batch)(4-6 servings - 1 carb each)
A package of Taco Bell taco seasoning has 18 carbs and Old el Paso brand has 30 per package.
I mix up a bunch of this and put it in a small jar. I just measure out 4 teaspoons of the mixture per 1 pound of hamburger. See recipe below.
This recipe makes enough for about 6 batches of taco meat:
2 T. chili powder
5 t. paprika
4 1/2 t. cumin
1 T. onion powder
1 T. salt
2 1/2 t. garlic powder
1/8 t. cayenne
Mix and store in a small jar. Mix well before measuring. Makes 24 teaspoons.
1 t. = 1 carb
2 t. = 2.5 carbs
3 t. = 3.5 carbs
4 t. = 4.5 carbs
5 t. = 6 carbs
6 t. = 7 carbs
8 t. = 9.5 carbs

I love taco salads with lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and when I make it guacamole. OMG TO DIE FOR!!!

Hi Shawna We are seriosly thinking about the Y. We just want to make sure it won't strap us financailly. We have tuition to pay for yet by May I think we can do it and still have $ for the extra things we do for the kids. We just don't want to do it then regret it. Jumping in to get the first post of the morning! Good morning girls!

And Shawna, just to state the opposite in terms of the 5 mile thing not to purposefully disagree but....
When people are out of shape a walk can increase the heart rate to a fat burning zone, not necessarily a cardio zone. Yes, you should try to do interval training to strengthen the heart but by walking five miles you are burning 500+ calories and that burns a lot of fat whereas people who interval train might burn more calories per minute but not be able to work for as many minutes. It all might balance out at the beginning of someone's exercise endevor. So....for beginners walking might be best. You don't want to hurt yourself or overly stress your body. Once you get good at that walk then you might as well push to the next level and interval train. It really does give your body the most bang for your buck if time is of essence and it also really strenghtens the bodies cardiovascular system which above else should be the reason to exercise - we all want and need healthy hearts!

Maybe everyone this week should be concious of their heart rate during their exercise. I believe the formula is 220 minus your age and that number is your maximum heart rate. Fat burning zone is generally 65% of that number and cardio zone is 85% of that number. When you do your exercise this week stop about five minutes into the exercise and take your heart rate - count your heart beats for 10 seconds and multiply that number by 6 (thus getting how many beats you have in one minute or sixty seconds). We should all aim for 65% or higher!

I gotta run to school. I'll be back this afternoon to post more since I'm a ho!

I wanna talk to you a bit about a 5 mile walk. Distance is not key in burning fat. Getting your heart rate up is. You can walk 5 miles and not even break a sweat. I want to ask that everyone do some form of cardio for 4 days this week.
Maybe I am being overly sensitive but this has REALLY bothered me since last night. Brought me tears actually and still does. I walk 5 miles in less than an hour. That is about an 11-12 minute mile. You try doing that and not breaking a sweat! Give me some credit. Don't make assumptions that I am going out for a stroll.

Done.

Karen.....hon......I would never intentionally hurt someone or belittle their efforts. I guess I can only assume that what I stated didn't come out the way it is intended.

If you are walking 5 miles in under an hour girl as you can see that is considered cardio. I wasn't implying in any way shape or form that you weren't getting it done chica. I was merely putting forth an example and I don't mean you as the example. I could go out and walk 5 miles but doing so in less than an hour and doing it in 3 hours are two entirely different animals. I was trying to point out that distance shouldn't always be a factor in our weightloss. I used to think as long as I walked 3 miles I was exercising. Which for all intents and purposes it is, but walking those 3 miles in less than an hour does more for you than leisurely strolling. I just wanted everyone to understand where I was coming from. I wasn't pointing fingers. I was merely forming an opinion. I am sorry this hurt your feelings, but it was not my intention for you to take it as something meant directly towards you. I could have used the 3 mile example or 1 mile example. I just chose 5. I'm sorry Karen. Please accept my apology. I honestly didn't mean it the way you took it and I do sincerely hope you realize this. I may be rough and gruff at times. I will also speak my mind, but I for darn sure would never knowingly attack your efforts or put them down. Any exercise is good. Getting out there and doing it is good. I was just trying in my own bumbling way to show you all the better. grrrrr!

Kim: You know sometimes I wish we got snow and then I realize my kids would be here all the time and I'm like.....ummmmm no! LOL I didn't see if you got your walk in last night? I know.....I'm mean!

amber: Thanks for the correction girl. I was going on some information I received not only from my PT but also from an article someone had reposted on the board. I'll find it shortly and let you see what I mean. I was told fat loss is all about CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO. I am going to test this darn theory.

Still no hide nor hair of stacy. I sure hope she posts today. I worry when we don't see her.

Need to talk about a subject and need your opinion on this.....and I know all of you are going, "OH NO!!!!" I tend to get in trouble when I wanna talk about a subject.
