It's wonderful to be on this team together!

I think it would be nice to have a "getting to know you" post, so I'll start.

OK, here's a little bit about me.

My name is Mary and I am 48, married to a great guy (well, MOST of the time ) for almost 20 years and have 2 teenage boys. The older one is 17 and a junior, the other is 14 and a freshman. I live in a small town in South Dakota and I am a special education teacher here. I have students in grades 4-7 and enjoy working with them. My hobbies are making computer graphics, reading, and obsessing over my weight loss which is soooooo slow. I am hoping to kick it up a notch and get it moving again. I am diabetic, so this woe is right for me. It gets and keeps my blood sugar in the normal levels. I am a 10 year breast cancer survivor too

Well, that's me in a nutshell I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and spending the next year together. I know it will be a great one!!

Good morning Mary, Lisa, Diana, and Mistydawn! I'm so looking forward to getting to know y'all and of course getting this excess tonage off. I've not recieved the calendar or spreadsheet yet. We need to pick a leader who has the time to submit our stats as well as pick a team name. Ok, team, let's get started!

Wow, Mary, you're not going to believe this but I've worked with special ed kids for years, too. I'm a semi-permenant substitute for our 7th and 8th grade Spec Ed class. They're a great group of kids and most I've known since they were little bitty. If you don't mind, could I pump your mind for projects and learning activities?

I'm 46, live in small town TX, and dh and I will celebrate our 18th anniversary in a couple weeks. I'm into crafts, 4-H, and scale watching. In a previous life I had time to curl up with a good book, but with kids (ours and others!), school, LCing, and arms getting too short, well... I do miss it.

Something else I miss is computer time, lol. Dd is on the phone or puter literally every waking moment so I'll probably be posting in the early AM before heading off to school. Are we going to have a new thread every day or maybe keep one going for a week, or run it through the 15th and 30th?

BTW, the Christmas bulge is starting to drop. The scale showed a loss of 2 lbs this morning (278) but I'm still bloated and uncomfortable so it's lots of water today. Breakfast was 2 eggs with a slice of cheese, and of course water.

Go Team!

Hi Betty! That is so cool that you work with special kids too I don't really do much with special activities or projects, so I probably won't be much help there. The kids I work with are mainly in there to get support and help in their regular education classes, and I have several that I an teaching how to read. I had some training in a special technique for reading this summer called Linda Mood Bell and that is what I have been concentrating on with them this year. It is a visualizing technique that incorporates phonics rules and lots of drill and practice. I also do Guided Reading with a group of 4th graders. Do you use Guided Reading down in Texas?
I'm sorry your DD has hijacked your computer! I got my boys their own computer last year and that has been wonderful for me I usually post before work too and sometimes after work. I get up early (5 am!!) and plan my day, post, and exercise. I'm such a morning person! By evening I am usually shot for the day.
WTG on getting rid of the Christmas bulge!

I am drinking my water too, and have already done a tough workout. I had a brunch of sausage and cabbage - yum!!

HI, Mary, Mistydawn and Betty,

My name is Diana and I am 56 and I am divorced. I have two wonderful sons who are married and they both live in Michigan. I moved to Pawleys Island, SC five years ago and just adore the sun, weather and the beach.

I work at a Doctor's office and I am a diabetic..... am having trouble with my suger and this has taken a toll on my eyes... had laser surgery on my left eye three times, so I need to lose this weight and get my sugar down.

I adore reading, walking on the beach..... playing with my two little Yorkies.

I am up for this challenge and I know that this time I will do it .....'05 is the charm........

My problem at work is that the drup reps and the patients come in with everything under the sun... donuts, cookies, candies, etc... it is tough sometimes....... so if y'all have ideals for snacks I can take to work to counter the "sugar junk stuff" that we receive, please give me some ideas....

So, now go team go........ we are our way...

Hi, Diana!

Ah, so that's the 'pawley' of your name. I couldn't figure out if it was a play on "Paul" or perhaps pet feet, lol.

It looks like you have the donut challenge won already with all the goodies in your office, aka donut shop! Let's see, for snacks I like to keep around pepperoni slices, cheese sticks, nuts, pork rinds, jerky, and if all else fails chug a big glass of water. I particularly like the plain pork rinds sprinkled with cinnamon and Splenda and noticed another thread today that had several pork rind recipes - http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/gi/dyn...egory%3DSnacks

Linda Sue has a great recipe site and I love the cheese chips - http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/cheezits.html . Just cut a slice of cheese into 16ths, place on parchment paper, and nuke until golden. I store the rolled up parchment in the freezer to reuse again and again. These are addictive and aren't really filling, but they are helpful when you need a bite of crunch.

We need a team leader and a team name. Any ideas? Also do you want to have a new thread every day or just keep one for say from the 1st through the 15th, or some such?

Bettyee

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting posted! I've been in and out of the house the last couple of days.

I'm almost 43, with two teenagers too (14 year old Katie and 17 year old Dustin). I've been married almost 19 years. I work for the County off and on for 15 years. I also have diabetes and feel like I MUST make it this time or else.

I'm so glad to be on this team with you all! We all have something in common, don't we? We're gonna tear it up!

Hi Diana, Lisa, and Betty!
We are now just missing Mistydawn78 - I hope she shows up today!

I faced the donut/cake challenge yesterday
I ended up baking a cake, since there are no "real" donut shops around here. It was devil's food w/milk chocolate frosting and my family loved it Not one little lick for me!! Yay!!
But this challenge was easy for me as I am use to not eating sweets that I make my family, so I guess we'll see what's thrown at us in the future.

I think we should just keep this thread until the 15th. Whoever wants to be captain and has the time can be it as far as I am concerned. I have the time, but if someone else wants to then that's fine too.

Names, names, names I woke up at 2:30 thinking about teams names and still don't have anything too inspiring. Here's some I was thinking of:
Wildcats
Queens or Qweenies
Pussiecats (kept hearing the What's new Pussiecat song yesterday ) it won't let me spell pussiecat the right way
Team Tatanka (the Sioux word for buffalo)
Let me know what you think and definitely give us some more choices!

Diana - I am so jealous of where you live! Can I move in with you??

Lisa - our kids are the same ages

Betty - I love Linda Sue's site too, and those cheese crisps are awesome! I eat too much cheese though. That's going to be a personal challenge of mine - to cut down on the cheese.

Have a great day everyone!!

Morning, all! Lisa, glad you're here. Now we only need to hear from Mistydawn. Can't stay long because it's the first day back to school after the holidays so we're scrambling to get back on schedule. Can't believe I slept in until the alarm as I'm usually up in the wee hours. The scale was down 2 more this AM (276) but I'm still all bloated and stuffy so gotta get all that junk outta my system ASAP.

Yesterday:
B - 2 scrambled eggs w cheese, green tea
L - tuna salad and lettuce
D - 2 meat muffins (Linda Sue's chicken but with little bits of leftover chicken, pork, and beef to clean out the fridge) and coleslaw (yum)
S - beef broth, LC candy

Carbs - 16

Cals - 1205 (I have learned the hard way I must limit calories too)

Exercised - 20 mins. (it rained so I couldn't walk so did 100 sit ups and hand weights)

Water - 64 oz.

Today:
B - 2 scrambled eggs w cheese, green tea
L - pepperoni and lc yogurt (this is my usual packed school lunch along with my water bottle)

Have a good one, ladies!

Betty

Good morning all. Man! It's hard coming back to work after being off for 3 days! I weighed myself this morning and found that I've gained a lb. I think it's about that time, you know, the wonderful TOM. I'm going to have to get better at planning ahead, since I'm at work and haven't eaten yet because I forgot my food at home! Ding-dong! I'm getting the water in, but I think I ate too much ham this weekend, because it's not coming out

I'm all for you being the captain "hope". I know it would be tough for me to follow up on. A team name . . . I just am blank!

Everyone have a great day!

Now you're just making me jealous with the 70 degrees! It's been cold here (for California anyway!), and soooo rainy!

I haven't even gotten down 33 oz of water yet! I'm a big nightime drinker. (Water, of course!! )

Hi Team

Great to see you found the thread Misty!! Welcome aboard!! I've heard that movie is really something to see. I plan on renting it soon.

Diana - 70 degrees?? I'll move in tomorrow!! It's about 5 degrees here with a winter storm approaching for tomorrow. BBrrrrr!!! Good thing I have lots of insulation

Lisa - I try to drink all my water by 5 PM or I am up peeing all night long. Of course, I always visualize all my fat going down the toilet too Sorry about TOM - I am just getting over mine. I got it last week and hadn't had one since last Sept. I was so surprised, and not in a good way! I hope you have an easy time of it.

Betty - how was your first day back? Mine was good. My boys were scrambling this morning too - they are use to sleeping in. Then I have to force them to take coats, let alone actually wear them I swear they are both part polar bear

Here's what I have had to eat today -
B - eggs
L - tuna, celery, flaxseed muffin, coconut oil fudge
S - leftover sausage and cabbage, pork rinds
Sn - sunflower seeds, lc shake

I did 30 min of cardio this morning. I usually do exercise videos. I like Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies. He's kind of dorky but I like the music.

Water - 110 oz

Well, I guess I'll be the captain if no one else wants it.

I asked my 4th graders at school for some more team names and they came up with:
Ladies - I was thinking maybe Loser Ladies
Git-R-Done
Angels
Red Hatters (then everyone on the team wears a red hat, this one made me laugh!)
Blue Squad or Red Squad (I imagine we could be any color )

Let me know what you all like. Any more suggestions?
Of all the names so far I like Qweenies the best (mainly because at school I am "The Queen").

Have a great evening everyone!!

Hmm, we're all moms so how about the Hot Mamas for a team name? Or New and Improved? Or Health 'n Happiness? Mary, I too was thinking something with "Ladies" in it... Lady Lites... I've had the family thinking but they were no help at all with the Old 100, Bat Wings, She Ain't Heavy, Victoria's Super Secret Models - blah, bad bad family!

It was in the upper 70s here, too. The A/C wasn't on in the morning and everyone was burning up especially with the high humidity. It wasn't until around 2 that our room was finally cool and even then we had the windows open. We were seriously talking about wearing shorts tomorrow but my fat knees would scare the children so maybe a light cotton dress or at least a light cotton short sleeved shirt. Whew!

Misty, glad you found us! Now, it's all for one and one for all.

Mary, yes I'm thrilled to be back with the kids. They got new schedules for the 2nd semester so hope the new teachers and classmates work out. Today, I took a leap of faith and arranged for one who's never been in a regular classroom setting into art, so wish us both luck. I'll be in there with 4 of our kids so that should help. Also, I'm wanting to get them more of the basic life skills in homemaking and some educational field trips.

Today:
B - 2 scrambled eggs w cheese, green tea
L - pepperoni and lc yogurt (this is my usual packed school lunch along with my water bottle)
D - 5 buffalo wings, 2.5 C coleslaw (11 carbs, yikes!)

Carbs - 19
Cals - 1140
Exercise - 25 mins.
Water - 64 oz

Good Morning

I like Hot Mamas too (but Bat Wings made me ) - is that name good for you too Lisa and Misty?

Betty - our 2nd sem doesn't start until next Thursday. I'm glad you are getting to try some new things with your kids. I bet art is fun!! I hope you have a good teacher to work with. Our little school doesn't even offer art anymore, and the teacher we did have was the opposite of what you would ever think an art teacher could be - a totally blah!!! woman who never even smiled Good Luck!!

Diana - I have a hard time at night too, it has always been my worst time. I am so in control throughout the day with my food, but when night time hits I just was to snack. I am working on not eating after 8 and did OK with that last night. Together we can tackle this!

Snow is in the forecast for us for today and tomorrow. They are saying 3"-5" - UUUGGG!!!

Try and stay cool Betty - I say show your knees proudly!! They won't be fat too much longer

Have a great day everyone!

That name's fine with me. You guys came up with some really funny ones! I'm doing good with the carbs, want to up the water a bit (only drinking about 105 oz.). The one part I have trouble getting into my day is exercise. I get a little, but not enough. I'll work on that. I don't want to be the one to put us behind! No pun intended!

Glad everyone's doing this. We have a great team!

This has been quite the day! Started off with TOM arriving, then arguing with the state tax people, and got to spend lunch at the dentist. What fun!

Hi all of you Hot Mamas
How's your day going??

Today has been good and I am still feling very motivated. I really like this challenge and know that it will definitely help me a lot to stay on track.

Today I had:
B - eggs
L - tuna, celery, flaxseed muffin
S - gruel (this is the name DH has given my cauliflower soup, just cauliflower cooked in chicken broth with a little dried onion, then blended with a slice of cheese melted in it. I love it!) and a taco salad
Sn - sunflower seeds and probably another bowl of gruel

Exercise was a 20 min video this morning and extra stair climbing at work.

Water has been 116 oz so far.

Lisa - so sorry about TOM, and the tax people, and the dentist! What a day!! I hope you get a chance to relax tonight.

Have a great evening everyone! I'm going to get comfy and watch The Biggest Loser.

to all!!

WTG, Hot Mamas! Looks like we're off to a great start! Now, the problem is keeping it that way, but we CAN do it!

Lisa - Wow, you're water is much better than mine. I make myself get down the 64 oz. I used to never exercise, but now that I'm working I have to and it's fun with my students because we laugh at each other and unlike at a gym, I'm not comparing myself with all those young skinny little things. Lately, I've been doing some sit ups and arm exercises in the evenings, and a walk if the weather is good and I'm not totally bushed. This week it's been so humid and it's rained the last two evenings so no walking here. Ya know, 50 lbs ago (ok 45 with the Christmas excess) I couldn't do any exercise but now I can touch my toes - not only touch my toes but put my hands flat on the floor. I am so amazed at what 50 lbs can do that I WANT to be another 50 and 2x50 lbs lighter. Blah, TOM can be a bother but when he leaves, he usually takes some extra garbage with him!

Mary - You really did well on your foods today. Good veggies and flaxseed to boot. Ah, you're another one who drinks her water like a good girl. I don't like the Biggest Loser but tried to watch it tonight but, of course got interrupted the last 30 mins or somewhere around when Moe got kicked off. What happened after that? Was that the final? What was the twist?

Diana - Ok, send me to the corner; you're another good water drinker. Looks like I'm going to have to try a little harder but I'm drowning as it is. Your water class sounds fun and it should be a pick-me-up after such long hours at work.

Misty - hope your day went well.

My day would have been great if we could kick the adults off campus. Being low man on the totem pole means I can't rock the boat too much... hmm, maybe a little rocking wouldn't hurt. I had to restock the fridge so went to Walmart and my hip didn't hurt at all except when we got home and I finally sat down. It used to be my feet and hip would hurt constantly so this is a great improvement.

B - flaxseed pancakes with LC syrup, green tea
L - pepperoni and LC yogurt
D - 2 chicken thighs and 1 C coleslaw
S - LC candy and pork rinds

Carbs - 18
Cals - 1130
Water - 64

Yeah, I know, I should quit the LC candy, but it doesn't stall me like it does some here and they're about gone anyway. Blah, still too many carbs and cals. Right after I ate the pork rinds, my fingers swelled up. They never did before but this is a different brand so will have to watch it and, sigh, yes, drink water.

Good night ladies.

Good Morning

We didn't get as much snow as they were forecasting - yay!! It looks like only an inch or 2, but it also looks VERY cold outside. We have a 1/2 day inservice this afternoon - blech!! They are usually such a waste of time - I know, I have a bad attitude!

Betty - I use to get to exercise with my kids at school when I worked with the more challenged students. We would do exercise videos and have so much fun! We also cooked and did many other life skills. Now the kids I have work on strictly academics. The Biggest Loser - after Moe was kicked off they all had teary goodbyes with their trainers and each got a beautiful Biggest Loser ring. Then they were all sent home to keep following their new lifestyle (this was several months ago) and will have a live show next week to determine the winner. They showed Moe and he had lost another 20 pounds. I like a lot of reality TV so I watched the show because of that, but I am so amazed at the differences in all of them. I know it is also not only the weight lost, but all the exercise that has reshaped their bodies. I can't even imagine exercising for hours a day though!
I think you are doing fine on your water. Just drink wh
