Hi DawnaG. I'm here. I started yesterday and I got in 4 litres of water and walked for 6 miles. I'm on 20 carbs a day as I'm re starting induction. Like yourself I plan to stay on 20 carbs for a few months then increase as recommended by Dr Atkins. I will going to my local cafe for the Dunking doughnut challenge, ( I have official approval to do this as we don't have a Dunking Doughnuts or any other similar establishment close to us), on Tuesday for the first visit. I have read the post and saved in for future reference. The film I'm downloading from the web as it's not being released overhere until the 10th January.
I need to do this so badly, I'm so fed up of being this way. I will give it 100% and I will help all my teammates to the best of my ability. Nikki |

So which one of you four want to be our leader? I'm declining from the race as I already have my hands full being leader of Delta over in the 12 week challenge, plus trying to get the UK/Europe threaqd down in the Challnge boards up and running again. Hang on I've just had a mad bad thought. Do we really need a leader. We are 5 dedicated people who could I feel work as a team of equals, giving mutual support, all of us giving our all not only for the team but of equal importance ourselves, what do you all think?
Anyone got any good ideas of what we should call ourselves? mY minds a blank right now. Nikki |

Hi Girls!
Hey! Glad to be on board with you all. I posted back on the main thread...guess I didn't search hard enough to find Team 5.
I think we should be "The Fab Five". What do you think? Team #5, 5 of us...that's the only name I could come up with .As far as a leader goes...I agree with Nikki that we could all be leader. My theory behind this is that sometimes it's hard to be the leader and in control all of the time. If we each had control then we wouldn't be here, would we? What ever we come up with is fine by me. I think that this is a team effort and we will do great! I am renting Supersize me today and read nobimbo's inspiring post. I plan to drink at least 150 oz. of water a day and can exercise for 30 min. on my lunch hour...either walking or running the stairs (9 flights! ). I'm going to stick with 20 carbs or less til I get to my goal of 150 lbs. I may eventually go lower depending on how I like the new me! I was down to the 160's in 2003 but fell off the wagon and never climbed back on until now. I am going to post what I eat everyday, as seeing it on the boards, out there for all to see, makes me feel a bit more accountable. So far: Breakfast- 4 slices of roast beef rolled up with 2 slices of Swiss cheese with a Tbsp. of 0 carb French dressing and 32 oz. of water. Took my multi vitamin too! Have to remember to keep those up! Well, I'll check back often to see what you guys are up to and make some plans. Jen

Jen: I like the Fab Five, because we are all already fabulous and there are five of us and we are team five. So it all fits.
I'm putting what I eat, at the end each day, onto my fitday journal which can be access by everyone via my siggie. Guess what? DH has sugested that we get a dog, he's a little worried about my safety going out walking on my own, now I have one of those tapes, you know the ones, I think they're called 'Miracle Mile' Walk away the lbs. But it's much nicer to be outside walking in the fresh air. I tend to use my tape if the weather is bad outside. Anyway catch you all later Nikki[PHP] |

Good Morning everyone - yes I agree The Fab Five is a great name - Jen I was totally stumped on a name and that one is perfect.
I also agree we do not need a team leader-we are all dedicated and what I really want is the support and a$$ kicking I'm might need sometime. I have read nobimbo's post and will re-read today and I'm going to watch Super Size Me a bit later. I think I might go out to KK donut and have a decaf coffee - the smell gags me but for extra points I'll do it and today I'm a bit stuffed up so maybe my nose won't be so offended. Will do 3 ten minutes sessions on my healthrider today and all my exercises the phy. therapist has me doing for my knee. I'll be checking in off & on all day. |

Hey girls!
Am half way through Supersize Me but had to stop to get dinner in the oven. It's so gross when you see what this guy is eating and that we can do that to ourselves without even thinking.
I'm right on track today. You see, it's hard for me to get even past one day without cheating lately. I WILL do this with you guys! My biggest problem is not planning ahead. I went shopping last night and got enough stuff to get me throught a couple of days. The produce looked really bad so all I bought was celery and some froazen cauliflower (my favorite). I am having celery with a little blue cheese dressing for a snack..have to get some more water in me if I'm going to get in my 150 oz. today. Have a chicken in the oven and plan on making cauliflower and some green beans (don't really like them but will choke them down!). Glad you like my name suggestion. It just seems to fit all the way around! Hope the others like it too. Nikki~ I think I will use fitday again too. I never did their journal but think I will this time. Can't walk today because it's raining here in wonderful upstate NY. What kind of dog are you getting? Ron and I are getting the kids (Michaela 4 1/2 and Patrick 2 1/2) a Newfoundland puppy for their birthdays in April. We have our own trucking company so Ron is gone during the week. I like the thoughts of having a BIG dog in the house! He wants a Jack Russell to take in the truck with him. We almost had one last night but the people who went into pet store ahead of us bought him! Guess it wasn't meant to be. Hi Meriweather! Nice to meet you. I like nobimbos post. It's very inspiring. I/we know what we need to do so let's kick some carb butt! I'm not a donut eater....my big vice is pizza and Italian bread. I thought about going into our local italian place and getting a chef salad ("no bread please"). Just smelling the pizza cooking will be h*ll . That to me is more of a self-challenge than the donuts!Well, off to finish Supersize Me. Have a great day and I'll jump back on later! Jen |

Jen and Nikki - yep I'm back to using Fitday too and have been journaling for the last 3 weeks - went back today and read all my entries and it was an eye opener.
Going to the donut shop in a while and then to the LC store for a few staples. Flavored pork rinds, diet rite soda, LC pasta sauce that I cook my green beans in and some Atkins supplements. Watching SSM later this afternoon. Where oh where is our missing teammate? |

Hello!
Hi everyone! It is wonderful to "meet" you all! I have been doing Atkins since April of 04, and am about halfway to my goal. I was REALLY bad over the holidays! My parents took my kids and I on a 2 week trip to Disney World for x-mas, and I gained 12 pounds
!!! We literally ate "around the world (disney world! ) for the whole 2 weeks!! So now I am back on track and hoping to get that 12 pounds off quick!!So far today I have done great! Lots of water, only about 6 carbs so far, and hope to exercise soon. I read the post, and will rent supersize me this week, and do the DD challenge!! I love the team name! As for the leader, we need someone to send the stats to Sweets each month. I just read that in Shawn's last post! I dont know what else a leader would be responsible for, but I would be happy to compile our stats and send them, unless someone else wants to do it!! I have been mostly a "lurker" on this board since May, and it has helped keep me soooo motivated! So now I will be posting more, so thats another plus!! for the Fab Five!!![]()

Bynny: It's fine by me if you would do the honours and send in the teams stats.
As for eating around the world at Dinsey world, do you think the day will ever come when person could eat around the world there low-carb rather than each nations version of carb laden junk? Maybe that's just a dream right now but sometimes dreams do come true. Jen: We are going next weekend of our local RSPCA to discuss with them the best dog for us to have. We live in a small house on a very busy road and our DD is 6 and she has Autism, so getting a dog such as a Newfoundland would be cruel. Likewise a Jack Russel with it's charactor would also be a non starter. Right now we are thinking about getting a Miniature Smooth Dachshund. I'm still waiting for the film to download, but as soon as I can I will watch it. I've stayed on plan food wise today and I spent 20 minutes on my exercise bike, and I've done some tummy and butt workouts. Water intake so far is 3 litres. Nikki |

Welcome Bynny! Glad we are all accounted for!
If you would be the one to turn the stats in that would be great! You have done really well with your weight loss so far...WTG! Get those 12 Disney pounds off! Had my chicken, green beens , and cauliflower for dinner and am full and satisfied. Have really done bad with my water so, I have to drink like a fish tonight!Super Size Me was an eye opener. Made DH watch it with me and he says I cannot ever take the kids there again. Once a month maybe would be ok. DH will follow my WOE when he's home. He's not overweight at all...not your typical truck driver. He eats alot of salad and steak when on the road. I've had a good day carb-wise...kept them under 10 if you net carb your food. Lots of veggies and protein. Well, Fab 5, I'm off to spend some time with the kiddos. Ron just left for VA so, it's a typical evening in the house. Jen |

Woohoo we've all checked in and are off to a great start - Byn please be the one to do the stats - very much appreciated.
Well went to KK donuts and sat there for the required time sipping a cup of decaf. Big downside - I took a shower just before going and now all my clothes and my hair stink like KK - ick. Getting off line in a minute and taking another shower. |

Hey Dawna! You'll be okay! Get those carbs out of your system!
It's really hard sometimes, I know, becuase I un-did everything that I had worked so hard to acheive. Bynny said she would send Sweets our stats if we wanted her to. Works for me! Thanks for taking the time to do them! Good night everyone! Happy lo-carbing! |

Jen - yes that is me diving. I is a many many many years dream come true for me. I went to Cozumel in Sept. and got certified and then went diving everyday. The pic of me alone is my first dive after being certified, we were diving the Santa Rosa wall and were coming up - this pic is at about 55'. The second pic is of me & my friend/room mate Terri - we were on our safety stop after diving Yucab reef and the dive master took the pic.
All that advanced stuff, like rescure diving, is something I would like to do someday but right now I'm just loving diving and learning as much as I can. Going to Hawaii in March sometime for just a few days and then in June to Key West and from there to Costa Rica both are dive vacations. Do you dive or just your DH? Hello again
Well I am so ready to start my new day tommorow
![]() I went shopping today to get some of the staples in the house for atkins. I have had trouble with the jusnk of worrying about atkins being healthy ~ I watched the special tonight on food tv which had alot of good things to say about atkins but one dr. made comment about it causing cancer I mean that is just talk isnt it? I have a cousin who is battling cancer right now (not from his eating) I mean it is so scary but I think of all the junk I put in my body all the perservatives (sp?) and all the fake stuff the junk food with all the additives I mean how can veggies & cheese & meat be hurtful when we are cutting all the fake food out and putting God made food into our bodies....Ok so I guess I just answered my own question I start industion in the morning wish me luck I am going to cut out caffiene also I am not sure if I need to ween myself off or just go cold turkey what do you guys think?Well goodnight to all thats another thing I need to work on going to bed earlier ![]() Night ~Dawna |

Hey girls! Good Monday Morning. At work and thought I would get a post in before starting my end of month financials (
the worst time of the month for me!). Meriweather- no, I don't dive. I think it's cool and would like to do the kind that you do or look for pirate treasure or something but I can't even imagine doing what DH does as far as looking for bodies, etc. Last year he pulled out a 2 yr old and his father. It was horrible. He had bad dreams for a long time because all he could picture was our kids. We have rivers all over the place where we live and people just don't respect them. We live near the Finger Lakes and my Dad has a beautiful cottage on Seneca Lake. I would like to try it there first- no sharks! That's one of the reasons we picked a Newfie as our family dog...good with kids, protective of them and WATER dog. That could be a bad thing too because we have an 18 acre pond in our back yard. Muddy, wet dog! Hi Dawna- WTG on getting all your groceries lined up. That's the first step for me. If I know that there's good food at hand, I'm less likely to cheat. As far as Atkins being healthy- I get so sick of hearing people bash this WOE. I mean how can it be bad? You are eating nature's food. Veggies, meat, eggs, etc. Have you ever seen that book "Eat Right 4 Your Type"? It's about the blood types and how eating certain foods affects you. I am O+ and O is the oldest, original blood type. I know the cavemen weren't eating Twinkies and Ho-Ho's! Just makes sense to me that Atkins is the way everyone should eat. Do you drink alot of caffeine? I have never drank coffee and maybe have a diet Pepsi per day...not quite everyday. I bought Waist Watchers soda (made with Splenda and no caffeine). I know htat I can live without the Pepsi but I 'm not hooked I don't think. I do know that when you drink it you tend to crave it. Did you see on SuperSize Me where that guy drank 3-4 2 litres a day! OMG that's crazy! Not even diet! Good luck to everyone! Oh, BTW, I tend to weigh myself everyday at work. I just have to or I lose track. I am at 209 this A.M. One pound gone and 59 to go! See ya! |

Happy Monday all - Hey Jen my sister (the only person in my immediate family to not live in No. Calif.) just moved to upstate NY-not sure where but I'll come back & edit in a minute after I go upstairs & look at my add. book. Yeah warm clear tropical water if the only kind of diving I'm really into right now and uh bodies
I don't think so - rescue diving is one advanced form I do not intend to try. Edited to say she lives in Roscoe - where ever that is .Dawna - I agree with Jen - what could possibly be unhealthy about eating low glycemic fruit & vegetables and meat, cheese & eggs. Recently I read a study that was talking about sugar being cancers best friend - cancer feeds off sugar and as you know starch turns to sugar in your body. Too much money is being lost by the big food manufacturers and they will fund any study and skew it the way they want to scare people back into eating their crap food. Well I'm off in a few minutes to take my dad & mom to Stanford Medical Center, my dad is having some type of procedure that they invented and do only there for an anurism (sp?). Anyway it will be an interested day - my parents are in their 80's and bicker about everything and I have very little patience - it's like I have 80 year old children . I love them to death and am so grateful to still have them but my siblings (5 of them) are like oh no let Merrily take them EVERYWHERE she is the only one who can make them get along. What in the world ever gave them that idea I will never know - gotta love them. Only thing is we are eating lunch at the hospital center and I'll be picking and choosing very very carefully.Exercise today is probably not going to happen as driving a long distance will make my knee hurt so bad I'll be limping when I get home. See you all this evening. Last edited by meriweather : 01-03-2005 at 10:25 AM. |

Happy Monday Fab Five!
It was really hard getting the kids up and to school this morning! It always is after vacation! I did not sleep AT ALL last night! I remember this happening in April on about the 2nd and 3rd day of starting Atkins. I read here that this happens to a lot of people when their body goes into ketosis, so I think that must be it since yesterday was my 3rd day back on low carb. I am sitting here at work eating my dannon carb control yogurt and drinking gallons of water, and the bathroom is a looong way away!! at least its walking! I have decided to try not weighing every day. I always get too discouraged if nothing changes, but I don't think I can just do once a week, so I have decided on Tuesdays and Saturdays as weigh in days. So I will let you know tomorrow what the results are so far! I wanted to share a quick and easy recipe that I found on the Disney World board. (They have a diet board over there too). I havent seen it here, but I don't go to the recipe board much. I eat this EVERY morning for b-fast now because I am sooo sick of eggs and bacon! And it's sooo easy! Melt 1 tbsp butter in a cereal bowl add one egg and beat add splenda (I use 4 drops liquid), splash of vanilla Stir in 3 tbsp of flax seed meal and 1/2 tsp of baking powder Microwave 1 minute I usually add some cinnamon too, and then when it comes out of the microwave, I top it with cream cheese or LC peanut butter and its yummy! You could probably add some davincis syrup instead of the splenda too. I made it once without the splenda, added salt and pepper, and topped with chicken salad and that was awesome too!! It has really made breakfast better for me! Hope you all have a great day...I will try to check in tonight! |

Hi! taking a quick lunch so thought I would jump on quick. No walking or stairs today..we are just too darn busy. I'm going to the store after work and buying The Firm workout tapes and stepper, etc. Hope I like it. I saw a woman on here once who had done it and looked absolutely amazing. At least I can do it at home after the kids are asleep.
Merrily~ I do know where Roscoe is...maybe 2-3 hours east of me. My Dad used to fish alot in the Catskills and that is where it is. It is so beautiful out that way. On the flip side...my whole family lives in California! My Mom's 2 sisters live in Napa and Sonoma and her brother who passed away in June was from S. Passadena. He was a profeesor at U of So. Cal. his kids are all out there too. My cousin works for NBC as an anchor...maybe you've seen her- Colleen Dominguez? My Dad's cousin just moved back here from Sacramento. My step sister is in Huntington Beach. I, myself, have never been there! I would like to visit! It's like we are all in NY or CA and no in betweens! Hope you made out ok with your Mom and Dad. Those 80 year old kids are worse than the 2 year olds! My grandpa was totally in his second childhood before he died. Gosh! He loved to bicker too! I forgot to say that whenI weigh myself...it's with my clothes on. I don't have scale at home and use a really nice one up in our Endocrinology dept. Right down to the oz! Had cauliflower for breakfast, leftover chicken and sf jello fro lunch. Only about 48 oz of water and am sipping some cinnamon tea right now. Not to bad but need more water! |

Byn: That recipe does sound good, so good in fact that I plan to have a go making it tomorrow morning.
For exercise I've got myself hooked on just leaving my front door and walking, sometimes I walk to the local park, othertimes I walk along the canal path and I'm now finding it hard to sit still inside. A few weeks ago it would have taken a stampede of elephants to get me out. Heck I'm even going out in the pouring rain. ![]() Food has been on plan, water intake down slightly but should be back to normal by the time I go to bed. Now I'd better go and get my food diary on Fitday wriiten. Nikki |

Hey! Bought the exercise tapes after work and plan on doing them later. Making a pumpkin-custard thing because I jut want some type of comfort food. Had some pork rinds with onion cream cheese (sounds gross but actually is pretty good and fills the void until I cook dinner).
Hi Byn- looks like we posted at about the same time earlier. I love the Dannon yogurt but refuse to eat anything like that until I can get past 2 weeks of induction. I forgot how easy it is to do this WOE. There really is a ton of variety! Hey Nikki! Wish I could've walked today but it's raining cats and dogs here. I hate it but at least it's not snow! Hi Dawna! Wow! Homeschooling! I give you a big Keep up the great work everyone. I can't wait to weigh myself and see if another pound is gone. It doesn't discourgage me to weigh in everyday. Actually gives me more incentive. ![]() |
