Wheat vs. Oats
H All:
Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in but I am curious if oats are as bad as wheat. I just listened to the author of Wheat Belly on You Tube and it made sense to me to stay off of wheat. I really do think this is what causes us to over eat and really messes with blood glucose levels. But what about oats? I sometimes eat steel cut oats for breakfast and now am wondering if this is as bad as eating whole grain wheat bread? Your thoughts?

Oats technically have no gluten BUT they are often processed in the same facility as wheat products so they may have cross contamination. You CAN buy certified gluten free oats. That being said- because I've never reacted to oats- I haven't worried about it. My family eats oats in limited quantities.

depends on your motivation for avoiding wheat. surely oats don't trigger celiac to the same extent wheat does, but as to raising glucose levels, I don't see why it would be any better.
