the new pushers approach....gluten free

I have been sick of the critics for years .....harping on my low carbing.
Well I now see a new trend...
If I mention that eating flour and sugar literally leave me in pain for a week......
They harp that it's not the carbs....it's the gluten.

I don't feel like telling all my gastric issues ya know...
It's not just the pain, it's the swelling, instant weight gain, water retention, MAJOR cravings kick in....I even have addictiion to carbs.

Why do people feel they MUST comment on my food?
I don't even ask or share......

I wonder why diabetics dont get harped on but I do?
There's no real difference.

I am no longer discussing food with ANYone, no sharing of recipes, no mention of weekend plans that involved cooking.
I will avoid this topic at ALL costs.

Unless I'm here in my comfort zone LOL.

Somehow people feel they "have permission" to discuss these things with you, or at least comment - so from now on, try, "Sorry, I don't discuss what I eat with anyone! What I put in my mouth is strictly my own business." Maybe they'll get the hint.

If not - try, "And WHY is it that what *I* eat is any of YOUR business?"

Sometimes you have to be as blunt as they are!

Red,
I agree with Charski.

You should feel free to say that you are pre-diabetic and insulin resistant. I think that most of us here would fall into that category if we ate carbs uncontrollably. People ALWAYS back off if they "think" it is for medical reasons.

I know it may not be the most "honest" answer, but it will give them something to think about while you go about the business of choosing LC and healthy food.

Good point:
I have had similar problems with people wanting to lecture me on not having a TV. I look them up and down and comment that I find television dull, inane, and boring. If they push, I can get nasty. No one even thinks of making these comments anymore.

(People, who are genuinely concerned, don't bother me. It is the busy bodies that I rip a strip out of)

Yeah but maybe it IS the gluten? As well as the carbs? You owe it to your body to explore that too. Gluten is in sooooo many things. Even things like cheese and some dairy!

We diabetics are faced with the "Diabetic Police", those well-minded people who consider it their duty to watch every morsel that passes close to our mouths. That said, I do not hesitate to state that I low carb for my sugars- no one makes comments on how bad low carb is.

I think the way things are going, a massive percentage of human race will be diabetic or pre-diabetic in a couple of decades.

I swear, discussing food with people is like discussing religion or politics. They get so worked up about it. And most of the time they are just repeating what they read or heard on a five minute blip on the news (as if this is gospel). They don't really know nor understand what they are talking about. They have usually not put the time into at least reading the details of one of the studies they quote. Or they don't bother to look at why the government recommends XYZ. They never question it.

People will say, as an example, how bad fat is. And then you ask them why. They can only usually say "well that is what they say". Who is they? The health professionals, or the government. Ok. Well I hate to think I'm better than an expert, but if low fat was so great, then how come more people have weight problems than ever despite the fact there is way less fat in most of the foods we eat these days? And I know this because I have to go out of my way to find full fat foods! Well it is just because people eat too much they say. But why do so many people eat so much? Could it be they are freaking hungry all the time? Why is that?

.....you get the idea.....

I don't get into food discussions with people either. It is just not worth it.
