Insulin Resistance/Gluten Intolerant

I haven't been here in a while, and after a long time with my DD struggling with healthy, LC then Low Cal then Low Fat Diets, that she is insulin resistant and Gluten Intolerant. So even though she has to refrain from grains, sugar, starches, and oh yes...dairy issues...she is SO happy to FINALLY know WHAT she COULD eat. It's like the "not knowing" was worse than the diagnosis...Shas steadily gained, even while eating healthy whole wheat or oat grains, yogurt, skim milk and cereal..etc...
Has anyone experienced this "light bulb" moment...meaning it's worse NOT knowing so than knowing and finally being able to do the things to move forward?
Such a relief!
Thanks for letting me spout off....

FINALLY, have a starting point and she is thrilled!!! She has such a smile on her face...even though she knows she is limited on some things...it's a GOOD DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Thank you! you have no idea after YEARS of trying different eating plans, and of course dealing w/ teenage hormones, it was to finally find out why her body cannot eat these things. When the doctor explained it to her...he explained, well at least you know how simple your choices are, and she thanked him!! She doesn't even care about the weight loss as much as getting her body healthy!!(She's now in college). Her sister has agreed also to get tested because of how excited she is! The best part was grocery shopping after and knowing EXACTLY what to buy and not buy....instead of the guessing game...

with the gluten you need to be careful as it isn't just wheat flour there are a few others that have gluten in them. if she isn't low carbing many grocery stores ahve sections of health foods that are gluten free.
is her doc giving her any meds for the insulin resistance or will that be diet controlled like Dr Atkins states in DANDR? eating low carb is supposed to help the body cure itself as with less insulin produced the cels become more sensitive over time to the insulin in small amounts. sort of like those who kill theri sweet tooth in induction can taste the swwetness of meats and veggies that they never did before.
