Xylitol And Candida?
Hi everyone. I'm curious about how xylitol helps with candida. I was emailed this article about xylitol benefits, and it's listed there as "Slowing the Growth of Candida".. but then it doesn't provide much of a description. I clicked on the reference link provided there , but it takes me to a clinical study on a french website. Can anybody explain to me in lamen's terms how xylitol helps with candida? Thanks in advance.

Xylitol does inhibit candida and some pathogenic bacteria, because the organisms think that it's sugar, try to eat it and starve to death. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone could consume enough xylitol to make a serious dent in the population of their entire body. Locally in the mouth with thrush, probably. I've had problems with yeast for five years, have used xylitol and it didn't make a dent in mine.
Xylitol is very successful for local use, primarily in the mouth and the nose/sinuses to reduce pathogenic bacteria and yeast. People who use it orally notice their mouths getting drier and drier as the normal sliminess from most of the oral bacteria is gone.
