1st time pregnancy / sensitive yeatie
I've been lurking around the message boards for a long time and have learned so much from everyone (THANK YOU
). And here's my story...I am 27 years old and just found out that I am pregnant. (I have only missed one period so I am probably 2 months or less) I have been on Atkins since 3/08 and am currently weighing in at 147. After reading the yeast threads, I discovered that I suffered from yeast overgrowth that manifests itself mostly thru rashes (typical places are under the beasts, between the legs, foot fungus, hands). I also found out that my body is very sensitive and an outbreak can start with just 1oz of cheese or one sip of diet coke. I have been drinking avc, cooking with evco, taking oil of oregano and pau d'arko (sp?) pills, and was just about to start probotics. My food intake is limited to fatty meats and vegetables (mostly green). (By the way, with the pregnancy, I cannot stand coconut oil )I have a obgyn appt tomorrow but am afraid that they will tell me to stop the LC lifestyle and start eating more fruits, starches, etc and particularly those that will cause the yeast to get out of control again. Also, should I continue or stop taking any of the supplements? ![]() Any recommendations are greatly appreciated !Last edited by bored; 10-29-2009 at 03:57 PM.. |

Congrats on your pregnancy!! The doctor, if you mention you are having yeast problems will probably prescribe you some diflucan if you ask. I normally ask for 2-3 pills and that works...but that is for a vaginal yeast infection not a systemic one. Good luck with your appointment. I see no reason to stop taking supplements during pregnancy but I am not a nutritionist, herbalist or a doctor so you at least need to tell your OB what you are taking so he can assess if it will harm a developing fetus. Probiotics will not hurt the baby and will definitely benefit you during this time of tummy uspset and upheaval!! And my doc was aware that I was eating low carb and was fine with it. You might be a bit surprised!!

Congratulations!! Enjoy being pregnant; it is an awesome experience I agree with Dawn, you need to talk to your ob/gyn regarding any medication you are on. I would venture to say many will not know the herbal supplements because it just isn't part of mainstream medicine. Do some research on your own or consult with a homeopath/herbalist. Many are safe for pregnancy but some definitely are not (I don't know which ones). Keep in mind that the healthier you are the better for the baby. Raging yeast throughout your body is not healthy for either of you; you're already battling the hormonal influence on the yeast thus dietary control is really important. Good luck through the pregnancy. ![]() |
