Candida Overgrowth - Anyone Tried This?

Test for Candida Overgrowth:
Quote:
First thing in the morning, before you put ANYTHING in your mouth, get a clear glass and fill with water. Work up a bit of saliva, then spit it into the glass of water. Check the water after a moment or within 2-3 minutes, then within every 15 minutes.

If you have a candida yeast infection, you will see strings, like cloudy legs, traveling down into the water from the saliva floating on the top, or "cloudy" saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass, or cloudy specks will seem to be suspended in the water. If there are no strings, the water is as clear as it was before you spit in the glass and the saliva is still floating after at least one hour, you are probably candida yeast free. The more strings and cloudiness there is and the faster it develops, the greater the overgrowth.
I have heard a couple people talk about this and did a little reading that supposedly it can be another factor that slows weight loss.

I tried the "spit" test and it was very stringy instantly and stayed that way. I have also had a lot of (MEN AVERT YOUR EYES) yeast infections lately.

There seem to be a lot of supplements now (probiotics). I am wondering if anyone has tried those, or tried the candida diet, which can be very hard to do...

Thanks in advance for all of your information!

Yes - I have tried both and am currently struggling to control candida ... check out my other posts about the meds, etc.

To answer your question - the candida diet is very much necessary to get your candida under control - without doing this, the pills, etc. will not be NEARLY as effective. Speaking from experience, they don't tend to do much either .. haha (the made me really sick - allergic reactions...)

Your best bet is to get a good probiotic - get a good quality one that doesn't contain sugars or starches, etc (sugar feeds candida and will counteract the effects you're looking for). In addition to probiotic, you may want to try having more garlic (natural antifungal) in foods, apple cider vinegar (the only vinegar you can have - make it into a salad dressing), coconut oil (check out the posts on this), and possibly oil of oregono, grapefruit seed oil extract...

It may be tough, but really nessary to solve the problem long-term.

If you're wanting to go the med route, go to your doctor and get them to help you with it - be aware that Nystatin has sugar in it (doesn't make sense - does it? ... considering sugar feeds yeast...) You may want ot discuss this with your doctor. Be aware though, that most docs are skeptical about candida.. But since you've had a vaginal version of the infection, he may be more willing to look at this option.

Good luck sorting this out - I hope that I've given you information that is helpful...

I am treating candida - a mild case to be sure. I do all of the above - ACV, coconut oil, oil of oregano (alternating with grapefruit seed extract) & probiotic along with my low carb diet. Not sure how it is working, but like I said, I have a very mild case, but it can't hurt to be doing it. I was kind of hoping that the candida was the cause of my slow weightloss, but I am not losing any differently, but I keep treating it cause I know it is there even though I might not have a bunch of symptoms.

I have a few questions after reading hours it seems on this subject.

I have had reoccuring vag yeast infections for years. However, they usually don't have the regular symptoms as others get (itch, burning). However, everytime I go to the doctor it is confirmed as yeast and given prescrition, but then comes back.

Also, all the other candia symptoms I don't have (fatique, etc).

So I guess my questions are; Is there a particular prescription med that I should request to work better?

What is a good probiotic and how do I take it, how much and for how long?

What is a good brand CO and for how long?

Can I get information about the the CO fast?

IF I chose to do the candia diet, how long do I have to do it? Or do I have to give up salad dressing, cheese, grains, etc for the rest of my life? I was looking forward to moving out of induction (month on so far) with in the next month but do I have to be on that and the candia diet for the rest of my life to keep it under control?

Sorry for all the questions...

kihayes -
I am exactly like you - the non-stop yeast infections, but without the usual symptoms.

I would have to stretch to say I have the other symptoms because they are mild. I used to be a great sleeper, but now I'm up and down all night, can't seem to lose weight and a frequent runny nose.

I just started using a probiotic, ACV and CO. We'll see if I notice any changes in a couple weeks. Diet wise, I'm on induction levels as well. I don't eat much vinegar (dressings, condiments, etc) and the only other thing is cheese. I am going to give that up for a few weeks and see what happens.

Thanks CaseMama!
What kind of probiotic did you get?
Apple Cider Vingar?
And Cocconut Oil?
There's so many out there to choose from. From the looks of it, its not cheap either! I just don't want to end up spending money on something that isn't effective.
Do you know how long it takes to see results?
Thanks!

You know, I'm also having very slow weight loss. I did the test and it was positive. So I've been treating the Candida overgrowth with some natural supplements, but my weight is still stuck! My body wont let go of the fat!

I followed this program years ago and it really helped . Even if you don't order their products ,it gives you a very good idea how to approach the diet and when to add foods vitamins .

I was really hopping to get some advise on this site. I guess I will try going to the health food store and see if they have any ideas.

I am far from an expert as well. I wing it. What I have gotten by doing research on this site is that you should get a probiotic that is kept refrigerated. I bought mine at whole foods. I am not at home and I don't know the brand off hand.

Coconut oil - I think I last bought Nutiva, but I have tried others and they are pretty much all the same. I think they say Nutiva doesn't have a taste, but if that doesn't have a taste, I would hate to think how strong one with taste would be...

ACV - Braggs. It's the one with the "mother" - there are others that have the mother, but I wouldn't know what those are.

Lots can be found out by doing searches on the site. Loads of information here, but sometimes you have to dig for it...

Thanks for the help! I went by the heath food store and got the strongest probiotic they had that was refrigerated. I take three a day.

I did some search but haven't found actually dosages on some of the stuff so it may just be different for every person.

As far as "how long" that too probably is something I will have to do trial and error by checking with the spit test.

The lady at the health food store said that if the strong probotics don't work, they have a strong 2 week candia cleanse is very effective for bad cases.

snaps--yes the itching means the yeast is dying. Very good sign. Some take it to mean that it is making it worse and then they stop, which is a bad thing to do. Keep it up!!

I think you get those from the intestinal variant.

ki

In your original post, you say you get a prescription and then it goes away and comes back. What is your doctor giving you? You must follow a candida free diet in order to starve the yeast. Starve the yeast and you won't have any more vaginal yeast infections. Obviously the script isn't working, so you have to try something else. Everyone in the medical community only treats vaginal yeast infections...they don't believe that yeast can be elsewhere! But we know different. Also, as Jo has stated you don't have to have symptoms to have candida. But once you start having the die off you might have some symptoms so watch out!! You know the saying..."it gets worse before it gets better". So true here. Just know that the die off is temporary. When I took probiotics after having a c-section 3 years ago, I used Natren probiotics. They were pretty pricy but I trusted the company. Sometimes you get what you pay for! As for how long....I took them until I could no longer afford them! I used everything I could, since I was nursing my baby I didn't want to do too much and I didn't want the prescriptives. But I could use coconut oil, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract and probiotics. I felt comfortable using them and it eventually worked.

snaps--I am so glad to hear that you are doing well on the cancer front. My step dad has colon cancer and my mom started him on some probiotics just a short while ago. He is on lifetime maintenance chemo after having his colon cut and resected and major chemo done.

I can testify that coconut oil works, long-term. Same with the olive leaf extract and probiotics Dawnyama mentioned.
