Candida and Hair Loss

I had a huge loss of hair awhile back and put the blame on having lyme disease (which it probably could have a connection) but there were more people with LD that didn't have hair loss than there was.

So, I was told maybe I had thyroid issues and had years and years of tests and pills and really nothing at all stopped the hair loss.

Then I discover I had untreated lyme disease for nearly 30 years, started treatment for that with high dose antibiotics and symptoms got even worse and then some. I also got a thick sticky like smell coming off my scalp. Then my scalp broke out in a pimply rash.

I then started the anti-candida diet in hopes to control other issues with candida and the hair and scalp issues started to correct themselves as well.

My hair is growing back slowly but I see new hairs poking out everywhere and even the hair dresser confirmed this. My hair is getting thicker and shiny. My fingernails are growing too.

I have been researching everywhere on this subject and was wondering if any of you have information on this?

Well, the combination of biotin and coconut oil seems to really be speeding up my nail growth and my hair has stopped dropping out almost completely. It is even better than on biotin alone.

Since coconut oil will attack the yeast, maybe there's a connection for you?

Su, that is great news......okay here is the thing. I used to take EVCO daily in my herbal tea but for some reason it's making me gag. I used to love it and now I can barely get it past my nose and mouth. I know how good it is for me so maybe I can just start drinking it again in my tea

Or try taking it a different way. I do well with it cooked in things as well as drinking it, although I think the drinking helps the airway tissues. The coconut bark might work for you. I get too many calories this way, plus I'm staying as free of sweetners as possible now (always acknowledging that I have a severe weekday Diet Mountain Dew problem! )

I'm not one that goes for feeling nauseated, so I'd shift things around until it worked well for me. I'm reading Eat Fat Lose Fat (finally!) and there are probably a number of ideas in that for getting coconut oil in. Also, coconut milk (not the sweet type) has a fair amount of oil in it and that may work too.

Linny, do you remember my posts on biotin?

I think, in a nutshell, we get biotin in our bodies from the GOOD bacteria in our gut. Those bacteria actually Make biotin. Well, if we have Candida, we are not making enough biotin on our own.

I think it's the combo of feeding the yeast and their toxins, mixed with the fact that our good bacteria can't make enough of it for us (which could have to do with the toxins from the Yeast).

Also, biotin helps keep the yeast "in check" (if you take extra biotin).

A lot of people on this site (not just Candida people) found they were losing hair. They started taking 5000mcg of biotin a day. First thing they found was that the hair stopped falling out. After a few months, they could actually see new hair growth.

I don't know if that helped with your question, but Biotin is very helpful with Candida.

I couldn't find my Post. It wasn't showing up in the Candida Room. I did a search and found it.

Here it is:

Biotin

Here's another thread I started a long time ago, thanking Cheri for her information on Biotin.

A lot of people posted in that thread and shared their own experiences.

Here it is:

Cheri and AllieCat, I just started Biotin.

Hi Tooter I also would like to thank you for posting this information. I have been wondering what to do I always had a lot of hair but not lately .
Someone reminded me I am not a teenager anymore , but base on my 82 year old moms full healthy head of hair I don't agree I need to be losing so much thanks .
