The "Cure" (if there is such a thing) comes when your intestines are at a balance with the Yeast and the Good bacteria. That's why, if you stopped doing everything you have been doing for the yeast...The symptoms will come back. You still have an overgrowth of yeast. You can't get a balance back in your intestines in a couple of days, BUT...You did get rid of some symptoms...which is a good thing. That's why I am not surprised you failed the test again. You should have. |

Kris T, let me explain it this way...
Remember me saying that low carb got rid of all my symptoms? It did, but I STILL had yeast over growth. As soon as I tried to go up the carb ladder or made a poor choice in my eating...The symptoms came back. Why? Because I might not have been "feeding" the yeast (which would have caused a lot of toxins to be released) but I also still didn't have a balance in my gut. Did that make sense? |

Hi to all - here's another question, my list says to avoid vinegar, so I am assuming that mayo and ketchup has vinegar so skip it, obviously, but, the ACV "Mother" is okay...so is it a lot different than regular vinegar? Is it the way it's processed that makes the difference? I was also reading I shouldn't have pickles? Anyone know anything about this. Thanks.

Have a good day everyone! |

Have a question about using boric acid powder. Is this the same that one buys in the hardware store (like for roach control)? If so, then I already have some of that and will mix it with my body powder for applying to the rash. If not, exactly what am I looking for and where would I look?
Thanks, Sheryl |

Well I did the saliva test and my saliva sank to the bottom of the glass it only had one long "tentacle"
does that mean I pass or fail? Either way I am using this as even more reason to continue with the CO and Atkins eating. |

Basically Atkins, but no nuts or Dairy (except Plain yogurt) and No pickles or anything that use vinegar because they are not made with Apple Cider Vinegar and could feed the yeast. No mushrooms. That's pretty much it, in a nutshell. Last edited by Tooter; 09-18-2008 at 01:32 PM.. |

Kris T, aren't you the one who said you were taking Oil of Oregano? May I ask in what form and how much it was?
The reason I am asking, is that I made the trip to my health food store (they were REALLY busy) and I found Oil of Oregano that was aromatherapy. It was about $12 a bottle. I realized that would not be the one I needed. I found another bottle of it (same size) as a supplement and that tiny bottle was $32!!! I didn't find any in pill form and they were too busy (and I was in too much a hurry) to ask.So, I'm waiting on the next trip there to decide if I am going to get it etc. Besides that, I'm doing enough right now without adding more in, just yet. I couldn't find grapefruit seed extract (Whew, I said it right this time). I Did pick up Xylitol plus packets. Xylitol and Stevia to sweeten things with. I stopped by Barnes and Nobles and picked up "The Diet Cure". Can't wait to get started reading it. So, that was my day. How was yours? lol |

So...I'm fairly certain I have an issue with yeast and have been interested in this thread the last few days. I have or have had nearly all of the symptoms listed. I have been losing weight on Atkins since April, but it seems much slower than many other people--only about one a half pants sizes for me in the past 5 months.
The anti-candida diet actually seems incredibly restrictive to me--no mayo or mustard for tuna/chicken/egg salad, no sour cream, no cheese (cream cheese, cottage cheese, ricotta, string cheese, etc), no salad dressings because most all premade kinds have vinegar and all of the kinds I make use red wine vinegar or mayo/sour cream, no cream for coffee, no yogurt, no nuts or nut butters, no fruits....I've even seen that you are supposed to avoid caffeine and artificial sweeteners. So no coffee or tea for me. YIKES! ![]() what do you eat on your hamburger with no cheese, ketchup, mustard or mayo allowed? What do you use for salad dressing? So it's pretty much meat, veggies (is butter allowed?), eggs, oils? I'm not kidding.... I need to do it, but I'm not sure if I can do it. Could cutting out most of these things be enough? I have been on CO, bought ACV yesterday and also picked up some oil of oregano, but haven't tried it yet. ![]() Katie |

Oh...another question...about the Oil of Oregano...
They didn't have capsules at my store--only the little bottle of oil. How do you take this? Any way to mask the flavor? Thanks! Katie ETA: Tooter--just saw your question about the cost of Oil of Oregano...for a small bottle I paid about $25 Last edited by okapi; 09-18-2008 at 01:48 PM.. |

Go Slow. You didn't get this over night and you aren't going to get rid of it over night. If you are going to eat cheese, limit it to a small amount on your salads. If you are going to use Mayo on your hamburger...That's a way better choice then mustard or ketchup. Salad dressings? If you can do the ACV and Oil, that would be Great. This isn't exactly like the Anti-yeast diet (that almost killed me years ago), it has to be something you can Live with. Right now, I am going stricter (and so is prozak) to see what happens, but we also have been stricter then most, anyways. The 2 biggest things I have noticed with Atkins and people stalling is Cheese/dairy and Nuts. Those are the 2 biggies that seem to cause people problems. Yogurt? Plain yogurt. See how you do making just THOSE changes. Then decide if you need or want to go stricter. Don't think of this as all or nothing. Think of it as a learning experience. |

I'm with Katie on not wanting to cut out things like mayo and mustard (don't use that much of it). You can make your own mayo and use the ACV in it. I've never made my own but have seen plenty of recipes for it and will give it a try this weekend. Was also thinking that maybe ground mustard seed added to the homemade mayo would work for that mustard taste. As for the other salad dressings, you can make your own vinegar and oil using the ACV. Pickles, well, I've never made them but could marinate cucumbers in ACV with some dill and sweetener. I shouldn't eat fruit anyway because of the blood sugar. Cheese is a whole different issue. Is a real staple in my house (like tomatos used to be, had to pretty much eliminate them due to blood sugar).
I do recall that when I first did Atkins 72, things were much better than when I started doing the fiber subtraction. I really do have the keep the carb count at 30 (and not net) or less to lose. I also know that my protein is too high, I need to get the fats back up to around 65% to 70%. Just remembering how nice my fingernails were (I've always bitten them and suddenly I have these nice fingernails) and a comment was made that I'd probably killed off the yeast. As usuall, I really didn't make the connection. At that time I'd add flax oil to my daily routine and attributed them to that. Sorry for the rambling. Did the spit test this morning, also had hubby do it. Yep, both positive. Sure hope I can convince him to do Atkins 72 for a couple of weeks and hope there is improvement in the itch dept., then I have a chance of winning him over. Thanks Tooter for letting me know I'm not being ignored. Sheryl |

Sheryl. I agree with your "choices" and also not doing things too drastic at once. You change a little bit...see how it goes and then decide if you need or want to go stricter.
I can't STRESS enough, that the more you do, the stronger the Die off reaction is. You do not want a strong die off reaction. Although it means the yeast are dying, it also can make you very sick. I was one of those "all or nothing" people when I tried to do the anti yeast diet years ago. OMG, the die off was horrible. I vowed, never again. So, my advice would be to make changes slowly. Don't jump in with both feet, unless you plan on lying down for awhile. ![]() The reason Prozak and I can go so strict, is because we have been a lot stricter then other people on atkins. Now, if "Die off" appears to be too strong for any of you, you need to "back off" a little on what you are doing. To the point that the "die off" isn't as strong. Then after a few days, you can try to go up again. It's keeping the die off at a place you can manage. Did that make sense? |
