This is a journal to help me learn LC tactics and to record LC success as 2007 draws to an end and 2008 looms large and hopeful ahead of me.
Wish me luck! Luck?
Ah, luck is the residue of design.
Found that in a fortune cookie, ages ago.
Fits into the LC mantra about how failing to plan is planning to fail. So my plans start out each day with a hot slosh of WPP+cocoa+espresso+VCO so that I start off feeling like a LC success. Yay, me!

Supplements for good health; how much of what?
How to know what to take? I'm wondering if I can curb my nighttime spasms from this hinky hip by taking magnesium, but what dosage? I'm reading at Pure Essence Labs site about 2:3 as optimal calcium-magnesium ratio, about "ionic" being the best delivery for absorption, about cramps that sound a lot like the nighttime spasms that keep me from sleeping, wake me up and make me sit up to sleep easier:
Wish I knew what to do with a drawer FULL of pills that I've bought and don't really know what to do with. Some seem to give my gut fits. I'm tired of trotting, wondering why my tummy is so ticky, why my gut gurgles so loudly. Sigh.
After a lifetime of digesting anything easily, I'm just not prepared to have a ticky tummy! Sigh.
Quote:
Calcium is the mineral that promotes muscle contraction. Magnesium is the mineral that helps muscles relax after they contract. Cramps are simply muscles that have contracted, but are not relaxing afterward, and are caused largely by an imbalance between calcium and magnesium. Leg cramps at night are a sure sign of magnesium deficiency.

Between my mineral supplement and extra magnesium that I take (because my D intake is around 3000 IU's per day), I get 750 mgs per day of magnesium. I don't know what the "perfect" number is for that, but I do know that I don't have any problems with cramping at all anymore.

Aha!!! Glad you posted that! I've been taking extra calcium to deal with cramps in my feet. Needless to say it wasn't working. Now I know I need to up the Magnesium. Woo-hoo! I'm going to try to start a blog myself that way we can continue to 'blather'. Sorry about my irregular appearances, my boys have been ill. But I will check up on you whenever time permits to make sure you don't disappear on me again!

You better girl! Don't make me come get you!
What are you up to today? It's warming up here, so took the dogs out for a short walk. Bad mistake. I forgot Lucy has not been with me for an extended walk yet so her manners are not up to par with Quigley's. Something to work on...sigh. |

http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...&um=1&ie=UTF-8 is a refreshing screenfull of peach blossoms - food for the soul. Hey, what about supplements? I've got a drawer full of bottles that are likely to go out of date before I figure out what each one does and how to schedule them all into me!

Wow, thanks for leads on how to use supplements! Might as well get what benefit I can from all the purchases I've made for stuff that supports autoimmune system and that is anti-oxidant (whatever THAT means)! Eh?

Added a dose of psyllium husks today. Want to get stuff MO-O-OVING through me and I'm not seeing enough results from the fiber that I eat. So, psyllium husks it is, as gritty as that stuff is. I just stir a spoonful into water, add fruity flavor, and chug down the brown mess - grit and all. Urk! Hope it improves action and helps scales show lower weight.

I wish I could handle psyllium. I've attempted it plenty of times but it doesn't agree with my system at all... Nor does flax of any kind.

Not at all sure what to expect from psyllium, so I'm going slowly. Just one dose. Bottle says 3x a day. We'll see.
Got some flaxmeal in the fridge, but have not been using it lately. Best sprinkled on at table, I suppose, to get benefit of whatever nutritional value - as well as bulking up a gut. |

Where you at, Darlin'? I haven't seen anything new from you in a couple days at least. Am I missing it?

Been doing an inventory of supplements/supplies on hand. It is amazing how many bottles I have, of stuff that I am not at all sure I want to start taking again. I've been off a lot of stuff, just to see if I can calm my innards. Got tired of the trots, of hobbling to the loo faster than my feet and hinky hip wanted to go, in hopes of getting there in time. So I am listing what I have on hand, trying to work out a plan to use up what will help restore me to better health, while avoiding anything that will accelerate evacuation.
Luckily, my body stabilizes if I let it alone and if I listen to that small quiet voice that says I should trust my body to balance its digestion. Well, it's worth a try, eh? |

Just found a nutrition and healing site that looks like a good place for me to learn some more about how to fuel my body without aggravating what aches so bad in my hinky hip and my joints. Is it a reaction to food? Maybe so. http://www.biblelife.org/vitamins.htm warns against milk (my most addictive substance, the hardest one to kick) and other dairy products that MAY be aching me. Guess I'd better find out if I can live without this stuff.

How is Zer? I'm ok, my son is getting better now that I've tracked down most of what is ailing him...lactose intolerance and eosinophilic esophagitus. Figuring him out and what to feed him is taking a lot of my time these days! But keep "Blathering", I'll try to keep up! Happy Spring!!!

Magnesium is a laxative....so be careful how much you take if you are having diarrhea problems. Potassium is the one that helps with leg/muscle cramps. However, it also affects the heart in a negative way if you take too much. You could have some bloodwork done to determine how much potassium you already have in your blood.
Milk is VERY bad for any type of infection/inflammation....not to mention the carb content. Your hip is undoubtedly inflammed or it wouldn't hurt. Carbs make my arthritis MUCH worse. Have you read Dr. Atkins book? He has a LOT of really good info on supplements and what they do. He also has info on "leaky gut syndrome." Fiber is NOT good for a person with intestinal problems...actually it's not good for anyone as it is rough (hence called roughage) and it scratches and rips the lining of the intestine causing all kinds of problems. ![]() |

Atkins' DANDR is at hand, much highlighted and tabbed. May be time to go back to review what MAY make more sense to me now that I'm more familiar with LC info that really made my head swim when first I read DANDR. Thanks for the hint to dive into DANDR. I must start using supplements on hand, ere they expire on me. Hate to waste money that way!

Been working with a Naturopathic Doctor (not an MD) who is providing a lot of support, who comes to my bedside, who is bringing her chiro son to make an assessment of how best to help me get back on my feet. All of this is at my cost, in the utter absence of support by HMO MDs who have never looked at my painful groin (only stethascoped my chest, as if that is a useful activity) and who indicate that I should get up and come in to visit them again - perhaps for more of that stethascoping? No thanks. Can barely get to the loo and back to bed now, after more than 2yrs in bed rest (my own conclusion being that my body CAN fix itself, again, as it has in the past). But, I digress....
One of the many supplements I've been on for nearly a month now is MAGNESIUM CITRATE and I'm almost sure that it has turned me into a more productive eliminator of waste and toxins. Great productivity! Wow! That's one that I shall keep using. Not sure about the rest. The adrenal support IsoCort is another supplement that I'm willing to try for a few more months, just in case it can help me support whatever it is that my adrenal glands can do. |

I'm glad you are working with the ND. I like mine and am feeling better little by little. It all takes time. My cousin is working with a Homeopath for her thyroid and adrenals plus low iron and D and she has seen a lot of good improvement from it. Natural is always better!

Today (maybe) the NatDoc and her chiro son will come to me so he can do an assessment and we can talk about PTherapy that might help me to make the most of what still works in my body.
I think I'll dig my Vit.D3 tabs out and start taking them, as I seldom (never?) get sunlight on skin. Big box of supplements. Might as well take them as let them go out of date. Right? Right! |
