This is a journal to help me learn LC tactics and to record LC success as 2007 draws to an end and 2008 looms large and hopeful ahead of me.
Wish me luck! Luck?
Ah, luck is the residue of design.
Found that in a fortune cookie, ages ago.
Fits into the LC mantra about how failing to plan is planning to fail. So my plans start out each day with a hot slosh of WPP+cocoa+espresso+VCO so that I start off feeling like a LC success. Yay, me!

Reality ~ as in scales, weighing...AGH!!!
Posted 02-03-2008 at 09:30 AM by Zer
Just ordered scales as a way of admitting that I am COMPETENT to manage a weight-loss program by facing facts daily. Yes, I've been talking about buying scales someday, like when I hit 199#. But fact is that at 64 I am easily twice that weight, give or take a stone (14#) or two. I'll find out for sure in a few days, when my talking scale arrives. Happy b'day to me!
I'm near tears with gratitude for the support LC lists offer. I think I am not at all used to such support and it is taking me time to adapt to what is available in online support. Thank you, all of you who offer your weight info - both the gains and the victories great and small in whittling away at weight that is persistent.
I so appreciate the boost that got me online to order scales today. With scales for a reality check daily, I can maybe learn to care more about myself as I accept support online and report my actual numbers as I fight to build healthy LC habits into my unstructured life.
Nothing but time on my hands. I can find a way to exercise SOME, to walk just a LITTLE, to manage my food so I am better prepared to nourish my cells several times a day. I can!
Clearly, I am deficient in offering myself good support. Like, no scales. Sigh. Denial is not just a river in Egypt! Scales are a tool. I can learn to use this tool. I can learn. I can. I hope so.
I feel so sad about my failure to weigh, to admit I need to weigh. I can feel how right it is, to own scales and to truly "own" my body's weight. I'm taking steps today to change how I manage my LC program. Yay, me! Yay, Dr.Atkins! Yay, all of us who struggle together!

What I think helps me keep focus is running a total of pounds gone as I observe a day's report of data - so I saw 390.2 on my scale today and I can see that it relates to the 392.8 from a week ago ... and the 394.4 from 10/1. I'm trying to see the bigger picture, so I don't get carried away with bOunCes up or down, as we all see fluctuations from day to day, based on phases of the moon or ???
Sadly, I'm just getting back to a weight I saw briefly Aug.1, the same month I found a personal chef in Craigs List and found myself awash in more tasty LC food than I'd seen before. I just ate more than I was able to burn off. 386.2 today, Thursday, 10/16/08...
...that's 4# less than 10/9 (390.2), one week ago... ...and 6.6# less than 10/2 (392.8), two weeks ago... ...and 8.2# GONE since 10/1 (394.4) ...stay tuned for a record-breaking October! (But only because my past record for monthly loss is disasterous!) I've finally figured how to use my scale to HELP me stay on track! Doing the math this way helps me stay focused and to avoid temptation! ----- 432.4#(2/8/08; I got a talking scale) Feb -5# March -13# April -5.8# May -6# June -6# July -5.8# August +6 ...391.0(8/1) Sept -2.6# ...397.0(9/1) 401.6(9/10) 394.6(9/12) 392.0(9/29) October -8.2# ...394.4(10/1) 392.8(10/2) 390.6(10/6) 390.2(10/9) 387.8(10/12) 386.2(10/16) Interim goals: 432.4 430 420 410 399 390 380 370 360 350 340 330 320 310 299(2/5/09) 290 280 270 260 250 240 230 220 210 1995'10"; 64yrs; Your feedback is welcome at my blog Tango, anyone? |

385.2 on a predawn Saturday morn in SoCal... teetering on my talking scale for the 8secs that it takes to weigh me!
...that's a full pound less than on 10/16(386.2) ...and 5# less than on 10/9(390.2) ...and 7.6# less than on 10/2(392.8) ...and 9.2# pounds GONE since 10/1(394.4) Thank you for your prayers, for I am SURE they are carrying me as I struggle to stay focused on my goal of lightening the load on my hinky hip - and other joints - so I can tend to daily tasks that just now are beyond me. I need help! Without the kind support from my LCFriends, I'd still weigh a quarter ton (508.7# on 9/9/04) or more. Scary thought! Might have gone higher, as MDs often did not have scales to weigh me, but that is the highest weight that is recorded in my DANDR. What I do know is that I weighed over 400# for more than half of my 64yrs, and I worked 30yrs at that weight, got hired at that weight, did all manner of diets at that weight, fell in love at that weight ... ah, yes... most of my adult life has been lived as a ginormous person. I am looking forward to seeing what life is like for a person who fits into normal size seats/clothes and who can walk without kvetching and looking for a place to sit, to rest. I can hardly wait! Pray for me, please! |

As I collect accurate data on my weight - going down in ounces a day - I thought it might also be a good idea to see if I am shrinking in height from my 5'10" claimed height. I am.
Just got someone to measure me with a pencil mark on the doorframe. Old way of measuring, like when we were kids. I'm not shrinking a lot, but it looks as if I am not a full 5'10" anymore. I measured off 5ft myself and caught a tall gal passing by my room to help me by holding a level across my head and marking the doorframe. Measures 5'9.5" (give or take, as the level is 1/4" wood back scratcher, so maybe I should say I am 5'9.25"?) - and my left heel came clean off the floor as I stool tall on my good right leg. Say WHAT? Yes, I do recall a chiro working on my left leg to equalize what he said was a normal short-tall leg condition. I even had a pair of sandals built up once, to help, but I got over that fast, as I went barefoot a lot back then and it was too weird adapting after I had worn the sandals (black suede, as I recall) that were built up to help balance me on two legs of equal length. Having a leg that is shorter probably means that my weight falls heavily on the shorter leg as I walk - each left step being a THUNK on that hip. Happens that is my hinky hip. Begins to make sense now, why that hip hurts and is the weaker hip joint. Anyway, at least now I know. That heel came clean off the floor as I stood tall on my right leg and tried to straighten up so that my head rested against the doorjamb. At the doctor's, with my laceups and orthotics, it's hard to get a true height. Some folks get bizarre about eyeballing the thick soles of my sturdy laceups and guestimating it's an inch or more. This is a better measure, a truer one. What I just did with naked feet seems an honest height - for at least my right leg. Clearly I am a shorter person on my left side than on my right side. Most of us are a bit irregular. It's not just me. REALLY! |

384.0 today... on the 3d or 4th try to stand still while peeking at numbers that flashed as low as 381.8 (just for a heartbeat), paused at 383.x (several times) before stabilizing and allowing the scale to register - and intone - 384#...
...that's 1.2# lower than on 10/18 (385.2) ...and 2.2# lower than on 10/16 (386.2) ...and 3.8# lower than on 10/12 (387.8) ...with 10.4# GONE since 10/1 (394.4) Thirteen days until Nov.1, until I weigh to find out how productive my LC plan has been in October. For me, this tracking seems to be productive. Thanks for your prayers as I struggle to master some LC principles and to stay focused on reducing weight on painful joints and organs. 52# gone in 2008!380# today...up 2.6# from 377.4(12/1)...sigh...
It's been difficult, finding my way, the past 2mos. Looks as if I show a 52.4# loss in 2008, or just since I got my scale on 2/08(432.4). That's not a lot, but it's something I can build on.
