I am confused about low-fat or fat free foods. Which do I chose.??? One has higher fat with lower carbs and lower sugar. The other has lower fat with higher carbs and higher sugar.
I was also eating eggs every morning with either 2 slices of bacon or 2 sausage links. Then I read that it should only be turkey sausage or turkey bacon. (That could be my whole problem)
I feel that I have been eating really healthy. Alot more veggies. I have been eating more fish and chicken breast. (Im gonna start growing feathers..haha)
I have been eating 3 meals a day with 2 snacks. Never eating late and always drinking my water.
My last question is...Should we watch our sodium intake?? I haven't read anything about that yet. That could also be another problem.
I really would only like to lose 20 pounds but at the rate I am going it is gonna take me a year..

Hey there! Well, it sounds like you don't have a ton of weight to lose and if that is the case, it will probably come off slowly no matter what you do. It has taken me four months to lose 22lbs and I would like to lose 5-10 more but I have been at the same weight for the past month.
First...what plan are you following? That makes a difference in whether you choose low fat, no fat or full fat food. If you are counting carbs (doing Atkins or other LC) the low and no fat versions will have more carbs but also more calories. It just depends on what else you are eating. I find that I have to keep my carbs under 50g per day and my calories under 1400 to lose. I eat non-fat yogurt and regular bacon and cheese but I am always watching BOTH carbs and calories. As for sodium, it really isn't too much of an issue for me but others might tell you differently. Good luck and I hope the scale moves a little more quickly. The most important thing is to find a plan that you can live with and stick to it....even if you make up your own! |

Thanks for the good information..I am trying to do the South Beach Diet..The first problem I had was that I went to a meeting and the lady told us we could have fruit..Sooo I was eating fruit every day..Then I purchased the book and it said for the first 2 weeks not to have fruit..Then I started all over again without the fruit..
I am glad to hear other people that take the weight off slowly..Some of the people I know lose so much weight so quickly in the 1st two weeks but they are obese..I was wondering if that was my problem..I am overweight but really only want to get down one size..I am not skinny by no means but that size is more in my comfort zone.. I am now down 4 lbs in 5 weeks..I am running a 3k race tomorrow..I hope I can keep up with the exercise |

You should read some LC research I think. Gary Taubes book "good calories, bad calories" is a great book for understanding why the AMA says to cut out fat. check out this site for some funny but accurate info about fat. Yale University has also just released some information about fat in the diet here. I think that if you upped your fat intake you would drop the weight right away. Keep your carbs under 60 a day. (or you can figure out your carb count balance by doing Atkins by the book...you will find your individual carb allowance.)
anyway, good luck. |
