Blog vs. Message Board?

I see that some people are using the blogs to simply ask a question of other members, so maybe it's time I blogged my opinion about the difference between blogs (web logs) and message board (forum) posts.
Message boards are the perfect place to ask a question or start a discussion about a topic when you want opinions from many people. Message boards threads are based around a topic. Generally debate and discussion by others is encouraged. In general, everyone can read the message boards and everyone can post a reply.
Blogs are more "your space". Blogs are better for when you want to create your own journal/diary with minimal input from others. This could be a daily eating and exercise summary, your favorite recipes, or even just random thoughts and ideas. Blogs are also useful when you have a more complete statement to make such as authoring an article on a new topic, but don't really want to debate the topic with others - other than to maybe receive some passing comments on your work.
Blogs give the blog owner more control over their creation. The blog owner can edit their blog entries at a later date. Blog owners decide who can read their blog and who can comment on the blog entries. Access permissions are controlled by the blog owner using the Blog Control Panel.

Thanks for the comparison of blogs and message boards. I've never used a blog before and wasn't sure what the difference was. I appreciate the explanation and will now be using my blog on a regular basis instead of my journal.

Sorry for being so dense. How do I respond to a blog? I can obviously post a comment here, but can't in the blog I'm interested in. There's no "Post a Comment" section.

I don't get it either. People are saying they can't comment on my blog, but I see a box at the bottom when I look at it. I have it set to moderate comments and that anyone can leave comments.

BawdyWench, Not every blogger wants comments. They can choose who can comment on their blog in their Blog Control Panel: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/bl...do=editoptions

ElleH, You have it properly set to allow comments from all registered members. Please give me an example of who cannot comment on your blog.

ElleH, You have set the setting to "moderate" all comments. That means you need to approve the comments before they display. Have you approved them? If you do not want to moderate them in the future, uncheck that setting.

Heck, how do I "converse" with people on message boards now. I have been adding comments, etc. but don't even see my words. Help please
