Day 2

Posted 04-01-2008 at 11:28 AM by tammay
Well, yesterday went very well, except that I didn't get in all the food on the menu I planned, which left me eating around 1000 calories (which I know is not enough!)

I did feel a bit "off" yesterday, though. Not nausea or tired or crabby - I actually was in a good mood and had energy enough not to take a nap in the middle of the day - but just "off". Part of that might have been because I think my body is still trying to flush out all the junk food I ate over the weekend.

I had a hard time getting to sleep, probably because it's been in the 80's the past few days and I never sleep well in the heat. I did have the fan on me but it didn't help. I also started to feel a bit of leg cramps during the night. I was prepared for this from last time I did lowcarbing and I know a potassium supplement helps. I did take on (550 mg) before I went to bed, but I was starting to feel the cramping so I woke up and took another one. It was weird - I suddenly had these "twinges" but they weren't bad cramps at all. I'm guessing if I hadn't taken the potassium they would have been.

I didn't really expect it to happen, though, since I didn't cut my carbs to induction levels. I'm thinking, though, that since the last 3 months have been high carb, my body is reacting to even the level I have set as low. Also, I drank a lot of water yesterday (15 glasses!) and I think that flushes out potassium as well.

Yesterday's menu:
1 egg + 1 egg white scramble with a bit of zucchini and chopped onion and crushed tomatoes
1 cup plain yogurt with xylitol, SF maple syrup, vanilla and 1/2 cup Fiber One
2 veggie hot dogs with mayo/mustard/horseradish tip (beat ketsup any day!) and steamed cauliflower with a bit of butter
Coffee with half and half
Greek salad (haven't had this in a long time - yum!!!)
Homemade dairy-free low carb fudge (I'm experimenting with this recipe still, but once I get it right, I plan on posting it, because it's a great chocolate boost and very satisfying ).

Exercise: 100 minutes walking (had to pass by the health food store so it's a bit of a walk)
40 minutes yoga

I also made an appointment at the health food store (they have an RN who comes in and does some tests for people) for a bone density test on Friday. I've been wanting to do this for a while. Unfortunately, I recently found out that osteo runs in the women in my family. My grandmother is 88 and in recent years her bones have completely become fragile (my mom says her spine is so bad, it's "off the charts") My mom got hers checked and she has one disk that is already osteo and a few that are pre-osteo so she's now taking care of it with exercise, etc. Since I'm 38, I figure I need to get it checked to make sure I'm heading in the right direction.

I'm nervous, though. I haven't been to the doctor in years and I HATE going.

Tam
