Mistakes

Some people read a book and learn.
Some people watch others make mistakes and learn.
Still others need to the mistake themselves to learn.
Then there is me. I need to make the same mistake... ohhhh.... lets say 27 times before I notice that maybe there might be something funny going on here. Then I continue to make the same mistake a dozen more times just in case my funny feeling was wrong. I mean we don't want to do anything rash now, right? And then despite all the evidence to the contrary I butt my head against the wall a few more times because either:
1. I'm still secretly in denial
2. It's not fair
3. I think I'm in in control when it's obvious I am not (see 1)
There is a story about a man who is walking along a road when he falls in a hole. He climbs out bruised and cut up. He stands there staring, he can't BELIEVE he fell in that big hole!
Next day he is walking down the same road and boom he falls in the same hole! This time after he climbs out he makes sure he makes a note of where he is. He's not going to let that happen again!
The next day he is walking down the road again and --phew-- he stops himself at the very last second. He is literally teetering on the edge of that big hole. He almost fell in but he stopped just in the nick of time. His heart is racing but he is proud he didn't fall in.
The day after that he remembers in plenty of time and gives that big hole a very wide berth.
And the following day? That was the day he remembered to walk on the other side of the road!
But you know when he knew he was really OK?
When he chose to take a different road; to walk a different path.
