Biking as enjoyment and not just a means

Posted 04-28-2008 at 11:32 AM by roamer723
I'm entering my 3rd week of biking to work. It's still great...but it's starting to become a chore.

The temptation is there to just take a day off and drive. But, then I remember how good it feels to just have the wind in my ears, going down the road, watching the sun rise in the morning air...

Then I got to talking to this guy at work today. He's biked from the atlantic to the gulf across the state of florida. How fanfreakincool would that be? I have got a long way to go to be able to do something like that. It's a 140-160'ish mile ride done in one day. he went with a local bike club and did it when he was much younger. I need to figure out the farthest I've ever ridden. y'know, like back in the day when I did it all the time what's the farthest I went?

But, the point is, I think maybe I've got a goal now. I'm gonna start looking at biking to work less as work, and more towards training for weekend enjoyment rides when I get in good enough shape. Not that I don't enjoy biking to work, but I haven't taken a joyride yet b/c I'm still building up to the point to be able to bike to work every day and still have enough left for a weekend ride, plus the week after everyday.

maybe after a few more weeks I'll look into local ride groups and maybe go try one.
