Christmas Day with Katharine Hepburn ~ O, joy!

Posted 12-25-2007 at 12:53 PM by Zer
Catching up with email as I watch a 1973 Kate - gloriously Kate - doing an interview with Dick Cavett. Stunning insights from a woman who says she always knew she could not have it all - and who knew what she gave up to win what she wanted from life. She is a role model for anyone - and inspires this LC aspirant to live a more focused life. Lovely way to spend a day!

Caught a glimpse of a recipe as I chased down something on a glancing google. Might try it, as it features two of my favorites (cabbage, caraway). What? Not your favorite combo?

Freedom Through Low Carb

Christmas this year has brought with it a profound sense of relief. I realized that a hugh burden had been lifted from me, a burden that I wasn't even aware that I had been shouldering - the burden of Food!

Watching holiday shoppers scan the aisles of supermarkets and department stores to fill their carts with sugary treats, bags of chips, boxes of chocolates, various dips, and other carb-rich foods; I felt FREE!

Free that I didn't have to suffer through the frenzied dance of buying Christmas treats. For me, every store that I'd enter would have something on display...

It's Christmas Eve!

Posted 12-24-2007 at 05:17 AM by Leezlelee
and I've been up since about 3 a.m. Guess I'm still like a little kid and very excited!! That's okay, it's good to find pleasure in the simple things.

I work till 2:30 today then picking up the kids. Once DH gets home from work we will be going to Mass.

Kids get to open one present each before going to bed and putting out the reindeer food, Santa stardust and cookies and Diet Coke for Santa.

Gratitude ~ Dayenu ~ What a beautiful concept!

Posted 12-23-2007 at 11:28 AM by Zer

Gratitude works for me. Counting my blessings helps me to balance out things that happen, things outside my sphere of influence. Counting my blessings brings order to chaos. Thus, I find joy in contemplating the word DYENU or DAYENU (transliteration can be a bear!).
Quote:
Dienu is like an old folk word that's Hebrew and it means 'it would have been enough' ... when something good happens to you and then another good thing happens to you. What you had in the first place would have been enough, if nothing else happens to you. It's all about counting your blessings and staying grounded.

LC success ~ The awesome power of protein powder

Posted 12-23-2007 at 10:47 AM by Zer
Updated 12-23-2007 at 10:53 AM by Zer
Typically a slow starter, I refused to use protein powder shakes as a supplement until quite recently. The idea of drinking something cold and nutritious first thing in the morning is one of the least appealing things I can imagine doing. Right up there with cold showers.

So it is with some surprise that I am reporting my reaction to a hot slurp of WPP (whey protein powder) that ALGittleman's books convinced me to try as a way of getting protein fuel to my cells first thing in the morning.

Food is fuel. That's a message that means a LOT to me. That mantra empowers...
