Posted 01-30-2008 at 10:27 AM by jezzie
Education in the USA ...

"Students in the richest country on earth are in 24th place in math.
That's behind Canada, Germany, France, Korea … but also smaller, poorer
countries like Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

With a net worth of about $51 billion, Microsoft founder and world's
richest man, Bill Gates, and his wife, Melinda, are determined to use
their fortune to change the crisis in American schools.

Through their influential Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, they are trying

Function vs. dysfunction

Motivational Note

Posted 01-30-2008 at 08:22 AM by s1mon3
Someone can love you, but you make yourself happy.

Someone can offer you advice, but you must learn to trust your own inner knowing.
Someone can be selfish and withhold love, but you must learn how to give.
Someone can pity you, but...

Very Cold Wednesday

Posted 01-30-2008 at 08:12 AM by s1mon3
I was able to sleep in for a few extra hours today. My children are out of school today. The windchill is down to -35 today so the schools are closed. It was the right thing to do. The winds are gusting at 45mph so I can't imagine a poor child standing at the bus stop in those conditions.

I haven't eaten breakfast yet. I think I need to do that before I get back into the habit of not eating like before.

Menu
B: Eggs/Sausage/ Coffee
L: Shrimp Egg Foo Young
D: Turkey burger and salad

I'm trying a new variation on my previous eating plans because the last time I went on my regular low carb plan, it took a whole year to lose just 30 lbs, which in my book is way way too long. This still is somewhat low-carb but not exactly. I'm still completely cutting out the following: white breads, pasta, rice, all sweets/candies, potatoes and...
