The history of Valentine's Day is obscure, and further clouded by various fanciful legends.

The holiday's roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15.

Pope Gelasius I recast this pagan festival as a Christian feast day circa 496, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome.

I gave in to Del Taco cravings today. I don't know why. I've been completely cheat free on Atkin's induction for 22 days and I have been very happy with it. I really tried to think if I had emotional issues that were making me want it...but I honestly have been really happy and secure lately. It just sounded really good and it was nice to not cook for a meal. I am actually still full from it (it was a late lunch), and I am not hungry at all for dinner. I'm really not going to beat myself up for it...it was bound to happen sooner or later I suppose. But, I can get right back on the...

Wednesday's journey

Still keeping strict low carbs... not much yesterday or today... but keeping the steps up pretty good.

Menu:
low carb shake, burger casserole with cheese onion and mushrooms, olives, tossed salad with cucumber, radish, cheese, blue cheese dressing. Coffee, cream, splenda and a couple of bites of low carb bar.

The scale was good this morning.... 233.. so losing even if it seems slow

YOU: in Days of Yore

Thinking back to the late forties, fifties, sixties.
(I was born in 1942)

What we ate back in those "early years":

Breakfast: Corn Flakes, Wheaties, Shredded Wheat, Cream of Wheat
Lunch: cold cuts on white bread and fruit
Dinner: meat, vegetable, mound of mashed white potatoes (or rice)

We drank juice, milk. In the summer - lemon/orangeade (real sugar)

I did not have any overweight friends. I was considered skinny.

We were healthy except for things they hadn't cured yet.

Getting Smaller

On 1/8/08 I started at 219 lbs. Today, 2/13/08 I reached my first goal of 199 lbs. I am really excited. To everyone just starting Atkins, it really does work. My daily diet consists of 3 scrambled eggs for breakfast, a can of tuna with mayo only or a piece of chicken breast for lunch and a small lean steak or burger patty for dinner. Oh yes and the minimum of 150 oz of cold water everyday. After I lose 15 more lbs I will begin to add some vegetables. Dont forget to add a good multi vitamin every day. Atkins does work if you follow induction properly. For the last week I am losing 1/2-1 pound a...
