MISS SOPHIE'S PLACE

I began low-carbing in April 2003 and was very strict. I lost 30 pounds in around four months, hit a plateau, but kept it off for a couple years.

I was hit with a death in the family and resulting legal issues which cause a year of intense stress in 2005. I went off-plan, but stayed sugar free. My adrenals stopped working and the combination of stress and poor food choices resulted in me regaining all that I had lost.

I am finally at a place where I can recommit to low carbing since it is essential for my health. I am insulin resistant and cannot eat sugars and starches on a regular basis.

TOM here. Still in control

Posted 06-21-2008 at 08:24 PM by Miss Sophie
Normally TOM kicks my butt with a great deal of pain and also with horrendous cravings, but so far I'm doing well.

I'm not ravenous and my cravings are handled with a little low carb dessert that keeps me in ketosis. I'm so thankful for it. Just last night everyone was eating cake and ice cream and I was satisfied with my option with no temptation for other things.

Thank you, Dr. Atkins!

Time to throw back some serious Ibuprofen, though!

Finally releasing water weight

Posted 06-19-2008 at 06:13 AM by Miss Sophie
Today isn't my normal weigh in, but after two days of losing lots of water, I was curious. My weight had dropped to 204.8 and then strangely went up to 206. I suspect it was some very salty food that caused it because I was definitely "on plan" with no cheats.

Today I was back down to 204.4 (even a bit lower) and my hands don't hurt from swelling, so I think I've finally lost that water weight which feels very good.

For the most part my appetite is still depressed from ketosis and the stix are still a very dark pink.

Today we have a crew coming...

The Beginning...again

Posted 06-18-2008 at 01:15 AM by Miss Sophie
I have successfully finished induction, but I think I will continue induction for awhile. I need the appetite suppressant effect as my cravings for sweets can get the better of me.

For some reason I took on a lot of water retention this past week, but it seems to be leaving now which is great, because it makes my hands so tight, they hurt.

I haven't seen much movement downward on the scale, so I'm getting motivation from using ketostix each morning. So far they have been a very deep purple which is encouraging.

I haven't kept a low carb journal for...
