It's My Atkinsversary!!! 8/12/09

One year ago, I started a low-carb way of eating. I've lost 25 pounds. I started exercising by simply walking on my lunch hour. I later added in hand weights. I've never been athletic in my life, not even in high school. Started the Couch to 5K program on January 7 and ran my first 5K on March 7. This is what sparked a love of fitness! I never truly "enjoyed" exercise prior to Couch to 5K, but rather simply endured it. I then ran two more 5Ks. First Triathlon is in the Books! 8/9/09

UNC Wellness Center Sprint Triathlon:

We spent the night in Chapel Hill. Got up at 4 a.m. (my usual time anyway). We each had a Larabar and a banana with natural peanut butter and a protein powder drink later on. Got to the race site by 5:30 a.m. to rack our bikes and set up our transition areas. Had plenty of time to get acclimated and see what everyone else was doing. Picked up our timing chips and got body marked with our numbers. Warm up for the swim was from 6:00 to 6:30 am but since my swim was not til 8:14:50 I decided to just warm up with stretches.

How to fit it all in?

I've been revving up the fitness routine and now I'm having trouble fitting in everything I want to do. So I'm making up a new schedule to start as soon as my Triathlon is over.

Monday:
AM - Abs, Swim Laps
PM - Strength

Tuesday:
AM - Abs, Run
PM - Bike

Wednesday:
AM - Abs, Swim Laps
PM - Strength

Thursday:
AM - Abs, Run
PM - Bike

Friday:
AM - Abs, Swim Laps
PM - Strength

Saturday:

Green Smoothie Fast - 6/18/09

I decided to shake things up a bit with a Green Smoothie Fast. I wanted to do a three day fast, but since today is already Thursday, I'm not sure about sticking with this through the weekend. We shall see. If not, I'll pick back up Monday.

Rules:

- drink green smoothies for 3 days or whatever length desired
- drink plenty of water
- no coffee, soda or artificial sweeteners
- tea is allowed
- vegetable both is allowed
- salad/berries/nuts are allowed if feel a need to chew

Homemade Duathlon - 6/13/09

My BF and I decided to have our own Duathlon just to see how we could do. So we took our bikes to the River Walk which is a 4 mile one way paved trail. We parked on one end and rode our bikes to the other end and back for a total of 8.5 miles in 45 min. We both have mountain bikes with nubby tires, so I don't know how much difference that makes on pavement; and we had to maneuver around other bikers, joggers, and walkers. Afterwards we ran to the 1.5 mile mark and back for a 3 mile run. I completed it in 27:36 which is about my normal pace right now. So apparently the bike ride did not effect...
