I found a great author in Lynn Austin! I missed my delivery of book 4 from The Chronicles of the King series, but I found on the shelf of the Library her latest published work A PROPER PURSUIT. I picked it up because of the backdrop: Chicago at the World's Fair. D.L. Moody is also a character in the book and the founding of his school in Chicago, of which I am an alumnus.
This is a great tale of the tension in a changing age. Young Violet has graduated from Finishing School, mastering the art of conversation and the language of French. Yet times are changing. When her father announces that he is about to marry a widow in their town, and that her mother had actually abandoned her family when Violet was younger instead of falling ill as her father had told her, she sets off for Chicago for the summer to find her mother. She lives with her grandmother and her two great aunts; while also trying to discover what her life decisions will be: Whom shall she marry? What sort of life will she live based on her choices?
This was a great read. There is a great peace in seeing in this novel that the desires of your heart are truly placed there for by a Creator who knows the plans He has for your life . Sometimes life decisions seem so large, yet following your heart my be exactly what you need to do.
