THE ROAD TO CANA by Anne Rice

Posted 05-18-2008 at 11:33 AM by LibertyJen
In book two of CHRIST OUR LORD, we rejoin the life of Jesus through His point of view at age 30. He works in the family business and is known as Yeshua the Sinless by the townsfold of Nazareth. The opening scene was very dramatic: a public stoning of two young men who were under the suspicion of an improper relationship. Knowing the author's son's views on homosexuality and religion, I thought this was a very compelling story line. How would Jesus react to watching a throng of neighbors hurrying to kill off two friends.

The drama in this book revolved around Yeshua's relationship...

A PROPER PURSUIT by Lynn Austin

Posted 05-18-2008 at 11:16 AM by LibertyJen
I found a great author in Lynn Austin! I missed my delivery of book 4 from The Chronicles of the King series, but I found on the shelf of the Library her latest published work A PROPER PURSUIT. I picked it up because of the backdrop: Chicago at the World's Fair. D.L. Moody is also a character in the book and the founding of his school in Chicago, of which I am an alumnus.

This is a great tale of the tension in a changing age. Young Violet has graduated from Finishing School, mastering the art of conversation and the language of French. Yet times are changing. When her father announces...

SONG OF REDEMPTION by Lynn Austin

Book Two of CHRONICLES OF THE KINGS series

WOW! I just finished this sequel: it is so incredible! Pretty darn graphic as it describes the evil that was the Assyrian Empire ... yet King Hezekiah remains committed to God, especially when it made no sense to do so. I found great peace in reading this tale as I continue my resolve to put my family's needs above my career demands. This has been a very difficult time for the past four months as I struggle against an immature management team, a highly demanding senior management, and simply too many circumstances beyond my control...

GODS AND KINGS by Lynn Austin

Book One of the Chronicles of Kings Series

My mom is reading these books, and she let me borrow book one here. This is historical fiction following the life of King Hezekiah. The first book follows his abusive childhood through his coronation revival. I have always loved the story of King Hezekiah ... Zechariah, Micah, Isaiah are three of my favorite Prophets and they were all contemporaries of his.

This series is AWESOME ... I plan on reading my way through the other books. Thankfully my library carries them.

I even lent this to a Girlfriend...

THE CHASE by Clive Cussler

Posted 04-16-2008 at 07:27 PM by LibertyJen
I had to pick this one up, it is not in a series! I really enjoyed this book about a Private Detective tracking down a serial killer / bank robber. This is a great introduction to the thrillers that are CLIVE CUSSLER, since this is a stand alone book. He sure does love his exotic cars, doesn't he?
